Guys, the week just flew by with that Memorial Day Holiday, and I hope you all had a safe, relaxing and uneventful Memorial Day. We got rained out but it was great just the same.

So, it’s Friday and time for our weekly shoot the shit. This is a social event where anyone is free to participate. What’s great about a shoot the shit is that you don’t need to know anything about the topic. You can make any unsupported statements, use profanity, insult anyone you wish or change the subject altogether.

The other benefit of our shoot the shit is that it’s a non-billable event. Unlike a mental health professional, who you would need to pay $150+ per hour, our shoot the shits cost you nothing. Why would you pay some jackass who studied behavioral sciences so they could understand themselves that kind of money?

This week’s topic on prophylactics should prove to be interesting and informative ; a topic that gets glanced over all too often when it deserves considerable attention.

Younger readers won’t remember the Dixie Lilly and La Vita brands of condoms. These products had more rubber than Humvee tires thus eliminating sensation for both parties or perhaps multiple parties. Then came the lambskins and a variety of products that were “ribbed for her pleasure.” This ribbing business had to be a derivative from the Benny Boys in the Philippines who pierced their apparatus and installed gold chains to excite their male partners.

Readers, those products will be discussed by the cultural anthropologists of future generations; however, those days are gone and today we see Japan and China going toe-to-toe competing for the thinnest walled prophylactics on the market.

I’ll close this shoot the shit by calling your attention to the Timberland boot on the left, it too was made in China. They were worn a total of 2 hours straight out of the shoe box. Fortunately Timberland’s outstanding customer service replaced them for me.

National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) Releases the Spring Edition of The Tactical Edge

SOFIC 2018 ISOF ASSAULT ON TERRORIST CAMP TO RESCUE TAMPA’S MAYOR

Every other year, USSOCOM and its ISOF partners put on a capabilities demonstration for attendees at the Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (SOFIC), The 2018 demonstration was excellent and this video captures just one phase of the demonstration.

Bob Buckhorn, Tampa’s Mayor, is taken hostage by a group of terrorists. He was taken to a small ship sitting just off the coast. Worried that a rescue might be attempted, the terrorists move Mayor Buckhorn to their camp. Once the mayor was located, members of the International Special Operations Forces, mount an assault to rescue Tampa’s Mayor.

Further handgun special threats tested and defeated include 80-grain solid copper 9mm SCS rounds. Knives, spikes and needles have also met their match with the Forcefield. SOFIC 2018 International Special Operations Forces Capabilities Demonstration

The Capabilities Demonstration brings operators from international partners Poland, Columbia and others participated in this year’s demonstration. The event involves executing a hostage rescue. As in past demonstrations, Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn is taken hostage and held aboard a ship. Anticipating a rescue mission the terrorist move the Mayor to a base camp. The assault involves swimmers, rotary assets, maritime assaulters and ground forces. After a 30 minute demonstration, the Mayor is rescued who returns on the bow of a boat firing the gatling gun.

One of the highlights of this year’s SOFIC conference was the S&T Operating Environment and Futures Foundry presentatios. Colonel McGuire delivered what I felt was a truly enlightening briefing highlighting that in order to succeed, USSOCOM needs to approach the mission with a 5 to 7 year forward looking perspective.

We’ve all known that the battlefield is evolving, but what’s often overlooked is the rate of that change. In today’s environment, SOCOM finds itself confronting adversarial actors with converging capabilities. Technology that was once only available to nation states is now available, often at a lower cost, to proxy militaries or radical elements. Often, and particularly true for proxy militaries, nation states supply the technology; therefore, SOCOM’s goal is not just to keep up with the Jones’ but to get well ahead of the game. The objective is to deny the advantages of emerging technologies to our adversaries. To successfully achieve that objective, the needs are many. But, as Col. McGuire stated, SOCOM is not looking for a rifle that shoots farther or a different camouflage pattern and bringing the needed capabilities to fruition falls on the shoulders of SOCOM’s Science and Technology Group and the new Futures Foundry is the incubator.

FBI 9MM Contract Awarded to Winchester Ammunition

EAST ALTON, Ill., 5/23/2018 – Winchester Ammunition was recently awarded a contract from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for its Duty and Frangible training 9MM pistol ammunition. Winchester also received a contract from the FBI as the primary source for .40 S&W pistol ammunition in fall, 2017.

The 147 gr. bonded jacketed hollow point (JHP) duty cartridge selected by the FBI is designed with patented technology that utilizes a reverse-jacketed, bonded bullet that can penetrate a wide variety of intermediate barriers while maintaining very consistent target penetration and reliable expansion. The nickel-plated cartridge prevents corrosion and ensures smooth feeding and extraction. Flash suppressed powder is used in this cartridge to maintain an agent’s night vision and meet the FBI’s stringent darkened range evaluation.

Elite Performance Ammunition shell cases are engineered to exacting tolerances and available for multiple pistol calibers (primed or unprimed) and rifle calibers (unprimed). The geometric consistency of these premium brass cases ensures each primer is held tightly in its pocket. Flash holes are precise with no burrs and the superior metallurgical properties of the SIG SAUER cases enable repeated reloading. All Elite Performance rifle shell cases are induction annealed for consistent bullet retention.
