Peyronie’s Disease, Harley Davidson’s Livewire and Russian Meddling Have Nothing in Common…

Readers, it’s Friday and the weekend is upon us. Hopefully you don’t find yourselves inundated in rain as I am. I hope the weather will give me a break because I need range time to get through a couple of reviews I have in the works. Any way, August is National Shooting Sports Month and I encourage you to keep this great American tradition alive, so get outdoors, dust-off the safe queen and shoot. Since it’s Friday we also have our, most of the time, weekly shoot the shit for you.

Image result for Peyronie's disease For this week’s shoot the shit I was going to talk about Peyronie’s disease but the illustrations were problematic. This banana’s curvature would be a mild expression of what the real deal could look like. So, that didn’t workout too well.

I then thought that Harley Davidson’s announcement of an all electric motorcycle, the Harley Davidson Livewire line, would make a good topic. But, I decided against it because…

…I don’t know about you all but one of the reasons I like Harley is that deep throated “potato, potato, potato” sound, and along with that sound is the rhythmic vibration of its seat that your significant other looks forward to. Well, you can kiss that goodbye with the a Livewire. Harley Davidson may need to include headsets and Harley sound mp3s with the bike that you can listen to when cruising.

All of our intelligence agencies feel that Russia continues to actively interfere with our elections; they all seem to agree that the 2018 midterms are vulnerable to state sponsored meddling.

Now, there’s no evidence to suggest that voting machines were hacked, ballots altered or results changed in any way, so the nature of the state sponsored meddling is as follows.

Social media is like an petri dish for this sort of thing because it provides an open platform for potential assets to expose themselves. The intelligence community rarely acts directly, they develop assets who are leveraged to conduct HUMINT, or perform other services, for their handler. The most valuable asset you can have is an individual or individuals committed to a cause for patriotism, political ideology, theology, family ties etc. The riskiest asset is the one that says to you “how much.” Since social media provides a free and far reaching platform for someone to express feelings and ideology, those individuals can be readily identified and become potential assets to be exploited.

Once potential assets are identified, the operative attempts to establish a relationship by being sympathetic to the assets’ cause, this is a very easy thing to do via a platform like Facebook where operatives can create any number of user accounts, disguising their affiliations. Once that relationship is formed, the operative offers to assist the asset advance his or her cause. They can then leverage the individual to organize others with similar ideologies for rallies, marches, social unrest, etc. Classic East German KGB work!

The efficiency of modern day technology makes it possible for an operative to establish relationships with potential assets of opposing views; thereby, creating the environment for a clash. If needed, the operative will also provide financial support to ensure that events go off. This is what was done in 2016 and continues to be done to a lesser degree.

Although far less sophisticated than the state sponsored actors I’ve just described, domestic radical groups, left or right leaning, are also prolific users of social media to advance a political agenda. They dispense outright lies, half-truths or employ any other strategy that maligns their target. Political parties are included in this type of activity. Social media does not screen for truth.

So, is there a difference? Technically yes; however, in effect they are one in the same. Making matters worse, social media users as a whole accept everything they see on social media as fact. During the Cold War, we used Radio Free Europe as a propaganda tool, today it’s Facebook, Instagram, Snap Chat. et al.

Whether it comes from Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Russia, North Korea or China you can expect continual efforts to leverage cyber space for propaganda. The way to deal with it needs to be more than cyber security, you need to teach the public in schools on the job and in the media.

Bawidamann Rogues are Available Once Again!

The Rogue by Bawidamann Blades was designed with Milling on the thumbrest and around the arced ring for positive grip retention. This knife was designed with a 60 degree angle bend from handle to tip to enhance natural motions from punching to plunging, with the knife being a true extension of the motion. It was designed primarily for off side carry, and has many possible carry options. The arcs on the ring serve as natural finger/thumb/palm (hypothenar) placement points, and becomes a natural extension of the handle when fully enclosed in the hand in either forward or reverse grips. You also have the option of using the ring in reverse grip (much like a Karambit) but with a straight blade you can still trap and cut with.

The H_RD Slide Now Available For Pre-Order.

Hudson Mfg continues to expand their line of factory-built accessories for the H9. Earlier this week, they announced the pre-order sale of the H_RD slide (short for Hudson Red Dot Slide).

The H_RD Slide is a variant of the standard H9 slide, and it is engineered to allow for the lowest possible mounting of red dot optics. The patent-pending plate mounting system makes it possible to use multiple optics with the H_RD. The hardened steel mounting plates fit over a robust pivot surface and rotate into dual dovetail joints cut into the slide. This system prevents forward and rearward motion, and you can be assured that the H_RD will keep your optic in place while shooting.

Initially, Hudson is offering mounting plate options for the Trijicon RMR, Shield RMS, and Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, and all H_RD slides will arrive with an aluminum block-off plate. Other plates will be available as the market changes. The H_RD comes equipped with a suppressor height front sight, and all plates are built with an integrated suppressor height rear sight. Additionally, the H_RD features H9A front and rear slide serrations and comes complete with slide internals. Winchester Ammunition Awarded U.S. Army Order

EAST ALTON, Ill. (July 27, 2018) – The U.S. Army has recently awarded Winchester an $8.1 million order for 7.62mm ammunition under an existing “Second Source” contract. The ammunition will be manufactured in Winchester’s state-of-the-art facility in Oxford, MS with an estimated completion date of Dec 31, 2019. Winchester has received more than $285 million in orders on this contract since it was initially awarded in January 2016.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Selects SIG SAUER P226 as Standard Issue Pistol

TGIF! We made it through another week, but the rain has been a real pain, I have a couple of reviews in progress that require some range time and getting outdoors has been a real challenge. I must tell you that between the rain and trying to figure out if Congressman Eric Swalwell has a chaw – I keep expecting to see some dribble from the side of his mouth – it’s stressing me out so I’m looking forward to a good shoot the shit.

Remember that a shoot the shit is a group interaction between people who may know, or not know, something about the subject being discussed. They are free to make unsupported statements, like Congress, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone they wish or change the subject altogether.

It has been proven that shoot the shits are, by far, more effective than paying some jackass who studied psychology because they wanted to understand themselves $150+ per hour to tell you that you are denial, so they can sell you subsequent visits. So, without further commentary, let’s shoot the shit.

Some of you may think this video is an expression of how I feel when I see Lisa Marie Boothe, Fox News contributor and Senior Fellow, and you would be right; however, what I had in mind was more like the MSNBC, ABC and CNN newsrooms trying to cover POTUS.

It’s obvious they’re more interested in finding out if the President, prior to being elected, talked dirty about someone he had an affair with to Michael Cohen than covering policy.
Then you have the expectation that Paul Manafort, who’s been charged with tax fraud and other violations, resulting from dealings with the Ukrainians, may somehow lead to proving Russian collusion with the President.
And don’t forget all of the lying to the FBI charges. Somehow that might lead to Russian collusion charges against the President.

This is an obsession to malign and demean the sitting President of the United States. The MSNBC crew can be safely diagnosed with Catatonia. They literally exhibit retarded-stuporous or excited-delirious behaviors. It’s amazing!

We’ve reached the point in academia where an economics professor goes on national television to make the point that we have a trade deficit with China because we buy more things than they do – I kid you not. That was on OAN about a week ago. My advice to students, in undergraduate or postgraduate business programs , if you find yourself in an economics or econometrics class and your professor makes a statement like that get up and run to the Registrar’s Office to ask for your money back.

Readers, on the issue of hacking , keep in mind that IP addresses as well as MAC addresses can be spoofed, and unless you know the actual cable i.d. on a patch panel or punch-down block being used, you can make a server or user look like anything you want it to be. We have excellent intelligence services but knowledge is power and unfortunately some of our elected officials seem to be more interested in disinformation than enlightenment; it’s sad but true.

· Indra is reducing the infrastructure necessary to receive and process data from Earth observation satellites, thus placing a powerful tool into the hands of its end users. One antenna and a direct access terminal will suffice to generate around high-resolution images every 24 hours

· In addition to its many other possible applications, the system will help improve the management of maritime operations, coastal surveillance, forest firefighting missions, interventions in major emergencies, environmental control and crop monitoring

Madrid, 24 July 2018.- Under a contract with the European Space Agency (ESA), Indra is developing an innovative terminal designed to enable governments, organizations and companies to directly and autonomously retrieve data from earth observation satellites and get extremely high-resolution images virtually in real time.

They will only need two main elements: an antenna to download the telemetry sent by satellites and this innovative Direct Access Terminal (DAT), which will process the data received to generate images with maximum celerity. After signing agreements with satellite operators, users will be allowed to independently connect to satellites, thus rendering the entire process of retrieving information of interest more agile and a matter of minutes from the data acquisition.

It was conceived so that any organization or company seeking to monitor a situation in any part of the world can do so whenever it wants. The enormously valuable images can have resolution sizes that are in many cases smaller than one meter per pixel: this is the case of ESA’s several radar satellites (SAR) that reach up to 0,25 meters per pixel. Radars allow to collect images at night and regardless of cloud cover or weather conditions that might otherwise reduce visibility.

The degree of detail of those images suffices to identify a vessel at sea or vehicle anyplace on the planet. They can help detect and monitor spreading wildfires. They can delimit zones affected by flooding or buildings that have been damaged following an earthquake. Among the seemingly endless possibilities, they are the most effective and quickest way to examine the conditions of crops across a country and estimate cereal harvest yields for the year, or containers stored in customs-free zones at ports.

Indra’s system reduces the elements necessary to access this powerful observation capability to the absolute minimum. This capability had thus far only been within the reach of satellite operators equipped with expensive and sophisticated infrastructures that include control stations deployed around the globe and huge data processing centers. Indra’s terminal nevertheless lets end users get access to only the functional features they really need.

Indra’s terminal has been initially conceived to receive data from Spain’s PAZ radar satellite and the twin systems, TerraSAR-X and TamDEM-X, which will soon begin operating jointly as a single constellation capable of observing any point on the Earth.

Indra has designed the system to be easily adaptable for receiving and processing data from other satellites. This renders Indra’s system as one of the most advanced and versatile solutions on the market. In less than 15 minutes from the data acquisition, users can get the image of the constellation that they need. The system’s daily surveillance capability will cover an area of approximately 300,000 km², which is equivalent to 60% of the size of Spain.

Knowledge to innovate

This innovative solution was developed under ESA General Support Technology Programme (GSTP), within Element 2 “Make” dedicated to commercial technologies and products, from the accumulated fruits of Indra’s hard work and dedication in some of the world’s most ambitious space projects. The company has been working for over 30 years as a trailblazer in deploying Satellite Ground Segments and space data processing centers.

For example, the company has implemented the network of stations for managing the Galileo satellites, the European global positioning system that will become one of the largest satellite navigation constellations in orbit by 2020 with a total of 30 satellites operating in full coordination. It also implemented the stations that will send the satellites messages on which the precision of the entire system depends, essential data enabling them to compare onboard clock information and orbital positioning: an error of only one billionth of a second in the information would cause a position error of 30 cm in Earth-based user systems, which is too high for critical services such as air navigation.

More recently, the company led the complete Ground Segment deployment of the Paz satellite, Spain’s first radar satellite. A distributed Ground Segment at the facilities of the Spanish Institute for Aerospace Technology (INTA) and the Aerospace Observation Systems Centre (CESAEROB) in Torrejón de Ardoz, with a third backup component in Maspalomas (Canary Islands). Indra is now leading the land Ground Segment deployment for the Ingenio optical satellite, which Spain will soon launch into space.
