The Many Reasons You Need to Vote November 6, 2018

I hope you are all well, it’s been a difficult week for readers in the Florida Panhandle, especially those in the Mexico Beach Area. The images coming out of that area remind me of Homestead, FL after Andrew blew through Dade County.

We’ve also been subjected to the Justice Kavanaugh confirmation extravaganza. I for one, believe the Supreme Court picked up a brilliant jurist, who will be faithful to the Constitution and not attempt to rewrite it from the bench. All Americas can be thankful for that.

So we need a shoot the shit!

How about the upcoming November 6 elections? Are you voting early, or planning on going to the polls? Voters in the Florida Panhandle will need transportation to get to the polls and I hope volunteers and local elected officials will make transportation available to get those voters out and to the voting booths.

Why is the 6 November election so critically important? Let me give you a few reasons for you to vote…

Madrid, October 8, 2018.- The Helicopter Simulation Center (CESIHEL) is one of the backbones of the Aviation Academy of the Spanish Army (ACAVIET) where pilots and mechanics of the Spanish Army Air Force are trained. Developed with Indra, It is one of the most advanced simulation centers in Europe, especially in joint tactical training of crews.

The simulation center comprises flight simulators (FFS) and helicopter trainers for the CH-47D Chinook, AS532 Cougar, EC135 and EC665 Tiger, located at two different bases: Colmenar Viejo, with six simulators, and Almagro, where two simulators of the Tiger helicopter are located. All of them have been developed with Indra technology.

In 2019, two simulators of the new NH90 helicopter, also developed by Indra, will enter service at the Agoncillo Base. With this, the network of simulators connected for joint training will reach the milestone of ten devices.

CESIHEL is a leading center thanks to the combination of top-level instructors and extensive experience in international deployments operating in the most hostile environments, the excellence of the training programs for the different courses, ranging from the initial type certification in the helicopter to the most complex tactical training, and finally, the level of the simulator technology, especially in terms of their capacity to provide network operated joint training.

The ability to provide advance joint tactical training in a network, with different platforms and from different sites, makes of this center a reference in Europe. It also makes it possible to train in the most complex and high-risk missions, with a high degree of realism, in all kinds of scenarios, with multiple threats and in all types of weather conditions (the operations with night vision goggles, NVG, are one of the Center’s specialties). CESIHEL has several scenarios, both in the national territory as well as areas of operation abroad, areas of importance for national defense (international deployments, possible conflict zones). These capabilities have been used to train crews prior to FAMET deployments, such as those conducted in Afghanistan.

Through a partnership agreement with the Army, Indra provides maintenance and improvement services for the simulators. In return, the Army allows the use of the facility, whenever available, for Indra to provide training services to other clients. Therefore, several Armed Forces perform their training at CESIHEL. It is a magnificent example of public-private collaboration between Armed Forces and industry, and this collaboration increases the prestige of CESIHEL while significantly reducing costs for the Army.

The NGCV program will dramatically benefit from automated drone scout and precision loitering missile engagement technology tightly coupled into the GD armored vehicle electronic architecture to rapidly geolocate and, if necessary, finish targets.  The ARV project has evolved well beyond a straightforward replacement for the Light Armored Vehicle (LAV) into a networked family of manned vehicles, ground robots and drones, collectively capable of not only reconnaissance but also electronic warfare and long-range precision strikes. The vehicle is designed to launch a drone, scout deep, and then deploy precision fire and electronic warfare. It also will have an open architecture design that is upgraded with new technologies as they become available.

The two companies plan to display a proposed integrated prototype system at General Dynamics Land Systems’ AUSA booth #6027 (Exhibit D upstairs) that includes AeroVironment’s Switchblade® loitering missile launched from a Griffin III demonstrator, as well as a Shrike 2 vertical takeoff-landing (VTOL) forward flight system that takes off and lands on the Stryker A1 30mm prototype vehicle.  The intent of the joint collaborative efforts is to develop a solution that will include the integration of AeroVironment’s Switchblade and Shrike 2 systems from prototype entrants to the USMC’s Armored Reconnaissance Vehicle (ARV) program.  Both efforts plan to tightly integrate AeroVironment’s systems into the backbone electronic architecture of the GD vehicles.

In accordance with U.S. military standards, the SWitchPack battery is designed to meet Type 1 safety standards, but to provide near-Type 3 capacity. SWitchPacks are made from 14 high-end lithium polymer cells, similarly reducing connection points and boosting reliability. The M17 Tomb of the Unknown Pistols are unique M17 pistols that were created using the same specifications for the U.S. Army’s M17 Modular Handgun System. The ceremonial pistols are 9mm striker-fired pistols with a non-railed aluminum grip module, stainless steel slide, wood grip inserts, a 21-round magazine, and features the same optic cut as specified by the MHS contract, front night sight, removable rear plate, and black controls. The pistols also feature a high polish to withstand the inclement weather while the Tomb Sentinels stand guard.

The unique distinguishing features for the M17 Tomb of the Unknown Pistols include:

  • Pistol Names: each of the four pistols bears the name of Silence, Respect, Dignity, or Perseverance and is featured on the dust cover. Dignity and Perseverance represent “The Sentinel’s Creed,” and Silence and Respect represent the request to the public by Arlington National Cemetery when visiting the Tomb of the Unknown, and during the Changing of the Guard;
  • Custom Wood Grips: in 1921 the chosen Unknown was transported to the United States of America aboard the USS Olympia. The custom wood grips are made with wood from the USS Olympia and include the crest of the 3rd Guard, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier identification badge inset;
  • Cocking Serrations: XXI cocking serrations are engraved on the slide to signify the twenty-one steps it takes for the Tomb Sentinels to walk by the Tomb of the Unknowns and the military honor of a 21 Gun Salute;
  • Sight Plate: an engraved impression of the Greek Figures featured on the east panel of the Tomb – Peace, Victory, and Valor – are featured on the sight plate;
  • Sights: a glass insert made with marble dust from the Tomb of the Unknown fills the sights of the ceremonial pistols;
  • Engraved Magazines: the 21-round magazines feature an aluminum base plate engraved with the names of the Greek figures featured on the Tomb of the Unknown – Peace, Victory, and Valor – and include a name plate on the bottom of the magazine engraved with the Tomb Sentinel badge number.
  • Serial Numbers: the pistols are serialized with a unique set of serial numbers that incorporate items of significance to the Old Guard: “LS” represents line six of the Sentinels’ Creed, “My standard will remain perfection; “02JUL37” to signify the first 24-hour guard posted at the Tomb of the Unknown on July 3, 1937; “21” to signify the 21 steps it takes the Tomb Sentinels to walk by the Tomb of the Unknown, and the military honor of a 21 Gun Salute. The full series of M17 Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Pistols serial numbers are LS02JUL37A21 (Silence), LS02JUL37B21 (Respect), LS02JUL37C21 (Dignity), LS02JUL37D21 (Perseverance).

The M17 Tomb of the Unknown Pistols will be presented to the Old Guard in an official ceremony on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the Arlington National Cemetery Chapel. The ceremony will begin at 9:00am and include a private presentation ceremony, followed by a Changing of the Guard in which the 3rd Guard soldiers will return to duty with their M17 Tomb of the Unknown Pistols. The presentation ceremony will conclude at 10:15am with a wreath laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Silence, one of the four ceremonial pistols to be presented to the U.S. Army’s 3rd Guard will be on display in the SIG SAUER Booth (#3425) at the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Annual Meeting, October 8th – 10th at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington, D.C.

Tactical Games Regional Event to be Held Oct 13-14

(Plant City, FL) The Tactical Games, a series of competitive events for tactical athletes pushing physical and mental strength, is holding a regional event in Autryville, NC on October 13-14.
This event will be held at The Range Complex at 2850 TigerSwan Dr. in Autryville, NC. It will consist of two days of extreme competition among top level physical competitors with unique tactical skill sets. This event will be the next installment of combat as a spectator sport.
Based on a highly secretive event hosted and ran by NATO Tier 1 units, The Tactical Games is designed to test tactical athletes throughout the continuum of combat related tasks, while under time constraints, and under physical duress. It is difficult to shoot a target with a pistol at 50 yards. It is quite different and exponentially more difficult, to shoot a target with a pistol at 50 yards after running, dragging a 95lb sled, hopping over obstacles, and then shooting accurately with a heart rate over 150 beats per minute.
Although there is some cross-over between other shooting sport competitions and The Tactical Games, as both events require shooting weapons, the two sports couldn’t be more different. Three Gun matches, for example, are generally sprint-style events lasting a couple of minutes at most, and sometimes only a second or two. The Tactical Games will challenge the best of shooters, but will do so by combining grueling physical challenges with precision marksmanship.
To compete and win at the Tactical Games will require the fitness level of a professional athlete, with the tactical and technical skills of the best tactical operatives in the world. Tier 1 and Tier 2 operators such as Green Berets, Navy SEALs and SWAT officers, will do well in The Tactical Games. Being able to shoot well is not enough. A tactical athlete will be required above all to THINK, but also to move fast over distance, carry heavy weights, and utilize bursts of strength and energy to win the title of the Most Dangerous Man/Woman in the World.
The next Tactical Games event is only days away on October 13-14th at The Range Complex in Autryville, NC, just outside of Fort Bragg.  This event will be the next installment of combat as a spectator sport.

NSSF Donates to Red Cross, Provides Aid for Members Affected by Hurricane Florence

NEWTOWN, Conn. — The National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the trade association for the firearms industry, announced today that has arranged to donate $10,000 to the American Red Cross to be used in its Hurricane Florence relief efforts in the Southeastern United States. As it has done in the aftermath of previous natural disasters, NSSF has also prepared a relief fund to aid its FFL, range and manufacturing members whose businesses were directly affected by winds, rains and flooding from the massive hurricane that made landfall near Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, on Sept. 14.

“Thousands of people have been impacted by the damage wreaked on them by Hurricane Florence, with houses, vehicles, businesses and, most unfortunately, lives lost,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF President. “We not only wanted to offer our members financial support to get their businesses back up and running, but also something that helped these tight-knit communities in North and South Carolina make headway with their recovery efforts. The Red Cross and its many volunteers are of critical importance to those efforts, and we’re pleased to make this donation to them.”

In addition to its donation to the American Red Cross, and with the approval of its Board of Governors, NSSF is immediately making dedicated aid available for business loss or damage resulting from Hurricane Florence to qualifying NSSF member businesses. Funds will be available to NSSF members suffering significant financial hardship and unable to pay for critical and immediate expenses that would enable them to resume business.

Applicants for relief should contact NSSF Member Services at 203-426-1320 ext. 209. A Hurricane Relief Fund application is available at nssf.org/relief for affected businesses. Additionally, NSSF strongly encourages any FFL needing assistance with their physical location in the affected Carolina regions to contact their local ATF field office regarding removal of firearms and ammunition inventory, ATF Forms 4473 and 3310.4, and acquisition and disposition records from those business premises to a safe location, as well as remedies for damage to or irreparable loss of these items and required reporting of such losses.

United States Air Force Awards AeroVironment $13 Million Indefinite-Delivery/Indefinite-Quantity Contract to Support Latin American and Caribbean Nations with RQ-11B Raven Drones

Things Aren’t as Large as They Seem

TGIF! Friday is here, the rain waters have subsided so we’re looking forward to a great weekend. I hope you’re all doing the same.  It’s also time for our Friday shoot the shit. For our new readers, a shoot the shit is a social interaction during which we discuss one or more topics. Participants don’t need to know anything about the topic(s) discussed, all unsupported comments are allowed, you can use uncensored profanity, insult anyone you wish or change the subject altogether.

Your other option is to pay some jackass who studied psychology, so they could understand themselves, $150 or more to listen to you. Can you imagine sitting in front of a Dr. Ford clone? Not me baby, especially when you can shoot the shit right here Pro bono publico! So let’s get started.

Many men feel inadequate about their male accoutrement, and for centuries women have done their level best to make men feel abundant. This leads to repressed feelings of inadequacy and men will respond by making up stories of grandeur. The condition is not helped by televised ads, like the Tommy John commercial, where the male model appears to be gifted. In fact, it’s not just Tommy John that exaggerates the male package. You can walk through Macy’s and other department stores and see models displaying an abundance of genitalia. Rest easy readers,  fashion industry photographers use male augmentation props and Tommy John’s model has never seen genitalia in the represented proportion.

SenateOn a more serious note, I have been blown away by the manner in which the Democrats have conducted Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation. It’s a national embarrassment not to mention an emotional rollercoaster for Brett Kavanaugh and his family. More troubling is the defamation the judge has had to endure.  Democrats want to leverage the “Me Too Movement” to get the female vote on November 6, this is the same approach Hillary Clinton took, unsuccessfully, during the 2016 elections. I wonder how Senators Booker or Blumenthal would feel if someone accused them of rubbing their crotch against an aid while riding an elevator in the Russell Senate Office Building?

The other attack on Judge Kavanaugh that cracks me up, and this is laughable, is that he lacks judicial temperament. The man has sat on the Court of Appeals for Washington D.C., the second highest court in the land,  and has written 300 opinions. But, according to Democrats he lacks judicial temperament. Astonishing! How can you say that to Americans with a straight face? Judge Kavanaugh and his family is owed an apology for what they’ve been subjected to.

It is a huge miscalculation to think women are incapable of seeing through the smoke and rally around Dr. Ford!

Go ahead! Tell us what you think. We’ll never accuse you of being in denial. Have a great weekend, be safe, relax and spend some time with your buds and family – have a beer for God’s sake.

Please, keep in mind that November 6 is right around the corner and you need to get out and vote. The importance of this midterm election cannot be overemphasized!

Federal Identity Forum and Exposition – September 25-27, 2018

20180925_104123Formerly the Global Identity Summit, FedID brought government and industry partners to Tampa, FL, September 25-27,  for three days of speakers, concepts, needs and ideas to address the global challenge of identity management. For the military collecting insurgent biometrics is key to identifying and destroying terror networks, forensic identification is important in times of natural disasters or solving what were once cold cases, providing social benefits requires validating recipients and this is just the tip of the iceberg. More recently, Delta Airlines announced the use of facial recognition at one of the company’s terminals at Atlanta’s Hartsfield International Airport. DHS employs biometrics in secondary processing of individuals entering the country illegally believed to be criminal elements or fraudulently claiming kinship affiliations.
