Back-to-Back Wins for Team GLOCK at USPSA Regional Matches

SMYRNA, GA— June 26, 2019— Team GLOCK brings home numerous wins after back-to-back USPSA matches over the weekend. All three team members left with winning titles as they continue on their journey to World Shoot 2020.

Team GLOCK competed at the Area 1 match in Bend, OR and the Area 7 match in Dunbarton, NH which are large regional matches that the team shoots to prepare for the upcoming third of four qualifier matches for World Shoot 2020.

With just under 500 shooters throughout all divisions, “Area 1 was a challenging match that focused on advanced level fundamentals” said Team Captain Shane Coley. “Every shooter was challenged in a different aspect, whether it be trigger control, movement, sight picture or stage planning.” Area 1 was the first match back for team member Michelle Viscussi after the birth of her second child in February, where she took home a winning title as High Lady in Limited Division. Ashley Rheuark, the youngest member of Team GLOCK reeled in another season win as she claims the title of High Lady in the Carry Optics Division.

After competing at Area 1 on June 19^th and 20^th, Team Captain Shane Coley went on to claim the top title at the USPSA Area 7 match in Dunbarton, NH. Located near the headquarters of rival firearm manufacturer Sig Sauer, the competition was fierce and left no room for mistakes. After a full day of shooting, Coley took home the title of Limited Division Champion. “This match required a lot of focus to maintain the competitive advantage all day and I’m thankful to come away with this win,” said Coley.

Produced in limited numbers during WWII, the Model 37 production stopped in 1945. The Vietnam War really reignited the need for large numbers of combat shotguns and Ithaca started building Model 37s again beginning in 1962. Initially made for the Vietnamese military, the Model 37 proved so effective in jungle fighting it was contracted for our military and models like the current Inland/Ithaca version were produced throughout the war.

The Model 37 was generally found with some elite units such as Navy SEALs and Army Green Berets. The Model 37 was especially handy for Marine Corps Corpsmen (actually Navy medics called Corpsmen by the Marines) and others in various support roles on the battlefield where quick, fight-stopping high-hit probability shots and total reliability were critical while the operator performed his primary mission task.

Out of production since 1975, the Ithaca Model 37 is now back and every bit as mean-looking and effective as it was in WWII , Korea and the jungles of Vietnam. The Model 37 has proved to be a serious fight stopper in combat since WWII and a fun gun to use recreationally, hunting or for self-defense for over 75 years–especially for those wanting an authentic looking piece of combat firearm history.

Bond Arms® engineers intensively reviewed the processes used to build their firearms detail by detail. Their goal was to determine the minimum amount of finishing needed to create a handgun in order to take less time to manufacture and thus less costly to create. Of course, a rougher finish was inevitable. On a high-end firearm, much of the cost comes from the time spent finishing the gun-sanding out swirly marks and rough areas inherent in the machining process and hiding seams where parts fit together such as where the metal frame joins the trigger guard. The one thing the handguns still needed to do, however, was they had to have the same safe, reliable operation all Bond Arms® handguns are known for, and they still had to be comfortable to shoot.

“The rough finish adds quite a cool factor to the Roughneck™ and the Rough N Rowdy™,” says Dylan Hunsucker, spokesman for Bond Arms®. “We do minimal clean-up and deburr to ensure there are no sharp edges, and then we bead blast the finish. There is no sanding and polishing of the frame, which takes enormous amounts of time and adds to the cost of our higher-end firearms. The final product is that you can see the parting lines in the frame and trigger guard as well as some of the tool marks on the barrels and casting imperfections in the frame. It gives each one its own unique rough and tumble look.”

Estonia Has Joined the SPIKE Missile Family

The Estonian Army will be supplied with SPIKE LR ATGM’s, launchers and associated maintenance and training

June 24, 2019 – In a ceremony last week in Tallinn, Estonia, the Estonian MoD signed a 40M Euro Framework agreement with Eurospike (a European Joint Venture between Rafael Advanced Defence Systems, Diehl Defence and Rheinmettal Defence) for the supply of SPIKE LR ATGM’s, launchers and associated maintenance and training.

The contract included ICLU (Integrated Control Launch Units) launchers and live SPIKE rounds.

SPIKE is a cutting-edge precise, multi-platform, multi-mission and multi-range electro-optical missile Family, with capabilities of fire-and-forget, as well as fire, observe and update, allowing attack of hidden targets.

Estonia is the 32^nd user nation of the SPIKE missile, and the 19^th user among the EU and NATO. More than 30,000 SPIKE missiles have been supplied to-date around the world, with over 5500 SPIKE missiles firings, both in training and in combat.

The SPIKE missile and launcher cross-nation commonality enables nations to manage joint SPIKE missile stocks, create joint procurement and maintain mutual support. In combination with local production within Europe by local SME’s, SPIKE is a truly common European missile.

Allentown PA Replaces Sig Sauer Pistols with GLOCK after 12 Years

WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?

It’s Friday once more – it seems like Friday comes around every week doesn’t it? It’s also time to think about the weekend BBQ, range session or just kicking back and relaxing, well deserved I might add. It’s also time for our shoot the shit.

It’s been quite a week. We lost a RQ-4A Global Hawk drone over Gulf of Hormuz. The Iranian government claims that the drone was in Iranian airspace so it was brought down by a surface to air missile battery. So, there’s a huge cluster-fuck in the media about going to war with Iran, etc., etc., etc.
We’ve also seen that on Thursday, the United States Senate, voted to ban weapon sales to Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.

Here are my concerns centered around both items.

Iran’s geopolitical goal is to be the tail that wags the Middle East dog, make no mistake about that. Iran, fully understands that endangering the region puts them in the same position as North Korea, I’ll explain. The North Koreans are not concerned about military action against their regime because they have a huge arsenal pointed at South Korea’s head. No government will dare do anything that is either meaningful or effective to North Korea because it endangers NOKO’s hostage, SOKO. Iran is attempting the same business model. They are already in Iraq, they’ve been in Syria for years, they are now in Yemen via the Houthis (who have attacked Saudi facilities like the airport and power plant), and they are an extension of Iran’s military.

Standing in the way of further Iranian expansion is Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Israel; Kuwait, Qatar and Oman lack the military capabilities to be a significant deterrent to Iran.

On Thursday, our U.S. Senate, voted to deny weapon sales to Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Jordan amounting to roughly $6 billion. You’ll have to pardon my candor when I describe the action as a vulgar display of ignorance, but stupidity may be the more appropriate accolade. So…

Q. Why did the U.S. Senate vote down the sale?

A. Driving that decision was the assassination of a Washington Post journalist and activist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul. The U.S. Senate is also concerned about Saudi Arabia’s alleged indiscriminate bombing of Yemeni civilians (in what is a classic asymmetric theater mind you! ).

Analysis of the Senates action:

By denying weapons to Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Jordan you are denying the very countries that will stand against further Iranian expansion, the ability to do so effectively. Thereby ensuring the very same U.S. involvement they don’t want to see happen; not to mention the very real possibility that they’ll buy weapons from Russia, like Turkey has done.

As tragic and heinous as Jamal Khashoggi’s murder was, it’s been concluded by a number of intelligence services that Prince Mohammad bin Salman gave the execution order. Now, think about what I’m going to say next. Should Germany, France, Israel or the UK deny weapon sales to the United States because a government official murders a journalist, or anyone else for that matter? Probably not!

So, I sincerely hope President Trump VETO’s the bill.

As to Iran, inaction is precisely the wrong thing to do. I call your attention to Operation House of Cards, 10 May 2018, against Iranian forces in Syria. Not a lot has happened to Israel other than Iran is not launching rockets at Israel from Syria. If Iran, is allowed to destabilize the Arabian Peninsula or hold them hostage you can kiss-off any negotiating leverage with Iran. The global economy is at stake. And, if you don’t believe that take a look at the spike in oil prices at Thursday’s market.

Remember that a shoot the shit is social interaction in which participants don’t need to know anything about the subject, you’re allowed to make any unsupported statement that you wish, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone you wish or change the subject at any time. It’s far better to participate in a shoot the shit than it is to pay a jackass that studied psychology so they could understand themselves $150+ per hour.

Aims to provide artillery projectiles capable of delivering highly accurate extended range fires

LE BOURGET, France, June 19, 2019 – Boeing [NYSE: BA] and Nammo today signed a teaming agreement to jointly develop and produce the next generation of extended range artillery projectiles. The strategic agreement will leverage the companies’ combined expertise in guided munitions, projectiles and ramjet propulsion to provide a superior, affordable capability for the United States and its partners and allies.

“Boeing is a world leader in precision guided munitions and Nammo is a world leader in projectiles and propulsion. We look forward to building a best in class industry team that will deliver operational capability and industrial value to both countries,” said Maria Laine, vice president, International Strategic Partnerships for Boeing Defense, Space & Security.

The partnership is a result of the growing need by U.S. and allied forces to address the range gap between their own artillery systems and those operated by potential adversaries. Today the U.S. Army ranks the introduction of long range precision fires as its highest acquisition priority, with several allied countries also showing interest in acquiring similar capabilities.

“We are really pleased to have partnered with Boeing, and together we have assembled a world-class group of engineers that will help us meet these new requirements,” said Morten Brandtzæg, Nammo President & CEO. “Boeing and Nammo also have highly complementary skill sets that will allow us to complete development far faster and more efficiently than each of us could have done on our own.”

The work will be performed by Nammo’s development team at Raufoss in Norway and by Boeing’s Phantom Works advanced research division in St. Charles, Mo. In addition to delivering a revolutionary new capability, Boeing’s investment into the 25-year agreement will also support the company’s industrial participation plan related to the acquisition of five P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft by the Royal Norwegian Air Force in 2017.

The Boeing-Nammo project is supported by both the Norwegian and U.S. governments and meets the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency industrial participation criteria for the P-8.

German based companies form Future Combat Mission System Consortium for Future Combat Air System at Paris Air Show

challenges for FCAS will be in the field of the networked operation of sensors and effectors. The European industrial environment is characterized by strong partners with a broad range of capabilities and products,
especially in this area, for which FCAS will play an outstanding role in the years to come.

To effectively address these technological and programmatic challenges in an international program, the German based companies HENSOLDT, Diehl Defence, ESG and Rohde & Schwarz are pleased to announce that they have joined forces to form the German Future Combat Mission System Consortium under German Law.

GERMAN FCMS

The aim of the German FCMS consortium is to assume joint responsibility for the complex topic of the networked operation of sensors and effectors within the FCAS network. This will be done in close industrial cooperation with the weapon system companies and the relevant electronics companies of the participating nations. This will consolidate the strong key technologies in German industry. Providing, in addition, a sound basis for the future development of flexible and powerful sensor/effector composite solutions for current and future weapon systems of the European Air Forces.

SPIKE LR is fired from an OSHKOSH JLTV

Developed and produced by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, SPIKE is a 5th generation, precise electro-optical missile in use today by 31 nations

June 18, 2019 – For the 16th year in a row, the SPIKE Users Club has gathered, this time in Slovenia.

The SPIKE missile Users Club Meeting (SUCM) was founded by the SPIKE user nations in June 2003, and has become a unique platform for the nations to share their knowledge and experience in using the SPIKE missiles, discuss lessons learned in maintenance and live-firings in training, as well as tactical lessons in combat.

Developed and produced by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, SPIKE is a 5th generation, precise electro-optical missile in use today by 31 nations (18 of which are EU & NATO members). More than 5,500 SPIKE missiles have already been fired around the world, both in training and in combat.

The Users’ conference has also been an excellent platform for maintaining the nations’ interoperability, thanks to the missile and launcher cross-nation commonality, enabling the nations to manage joint SPIKE missile stockpiles, joint procurement and mutual support in supply, in the case of long-lasting conflicts.

Each year, the SUCM is jointly organized by NSPA (NATO Support and Procurement Agency) and by a different host user-nation. This year in Slovenia, the SUCM included dozens of SPIKE User delegations as well as observer nations that participated for internal study purposes.

As usual, the last day of the conference included an industrial day in which leading European SMEs involved in the SPIKE missile supply chain, such as Eurospike and other leading platform OEMs such as Rheinmetall and others presented their capabilities.

During the conference, the well-experienced Slovenian Army launched two SPIKE missiles, both from a portable launcher as well as for the first time ever from an OSHKOSH JLTV vehicle, which was integrated with RAFAEL’s Mini MLS Remote Controlled Weapon Station (RCWS), which includes a SPIKE vehicle-mounted missile launcher. The two SPIKE missiles hit their target precisely (both in IR and day mode). In addition, the innovative FIREFLY miniature close combat loitering munition was demonstrated, extracted from a canister by the maneuvering infantry, in vertical takeoff, and engaging targets beyond-line-of-sight.

Slovenian National Armament Director, Mr. Željko Kralj:

“We are extremely pleased to have hosted the 16th SUCM in Slovenia. Personally, I have never seen SPIKE LR firing before. SPIKE LR is one of the key weapon systems operated by the Slovenian Armed Forces and certainly the most precise against long range armored and other targets. This is the first time our soldiers have fired SPIKE missiles from an enclosure and from Rafael’s RCWS mounted on JLTV Oshkosh, and of course, I am delighted that both missiles hit the target. Slovenia is to establish a medium-sized infantry battalion group, which will include an anti-armor platoon equipped with 4×4 JLTVs with an integrated RCWS. After I have seen SPIKE in action today, I am very pleased with the efficiency and efficacy of the system itself and how it has functioned when mounted on the JLTV.”

Moshe Elazar, Executive Vice President and Head Rafael’s Land Division noted that the existence of the SPIKE Users Club is a great honor for Rafael, and a show of confidence in the SPIKE. “We thank all the delegations for coming and particularly NSPA and our Slovenian partners for their warm hospitality, high level of professionalism and great cooperation.”

U.S. Marine Corps Adoption of M18 Underscores Success of SIG SAUER Modular Handgun System Program

NEWINGTON, N.H., (June 17, 2019) –SIG SAUER, Inc. is honored to announce that the United States Marine Corps (USMC) is set to adopt the M18, the compact variant of the U.S. Army’s Modular Handgun System (MHS), as their official duty pistol.

U.S. Marine Corps Adoption of M18 Underscores Success of SIG SAUER Modular Handgun System Program

“The Marine Corps announcement to put the M18 in service with the Marines is a very exciting development for SIG SAUER, and a true testament to the success of the MHS program,” began Ron Cohen, President & CEO, SIG SAUER, Inc. “The Marine’s procurement of the M18 brings the adoption of our Modular Handgun System full circle, as this means, beginning in 2020, either the M17 or the M18 will be officially in service with every branch of the U.S. Military.”
The M18 is a 9mm, striker-fired pistol featuring a coyote-tan PVD coated stainless steel slide with black controls. The pistol is equipped with SIGLITE front night sights and removable night sight rear plate, and manual safety.

Recently, the M18 successfully completed a MHS Material Reliability Test that consisted of firing three M18 pistols to 12,000 rounds each for a total of 36,000 rounds in accordance with the MHS requirements. Comparatively, the U.S. Army’s legacy pistol was only tested to 5,000 rounds making the test duration for the M18 pistol 2.4 times greater than that of the legacy pistol. In this testing, the M18 experienced zero stoppages despite being allowed up to twelve stoppages. Additionally, the M18 passed a parts interchange test, and met stringent accuracy and dispersion requirements.

“The success of the MHS program is the direct result of the indisputable performance and superior quality of the M17 and M18 pistols, and the commitment and dedication of the men and women of SIG SAUER to those that serve in the defense of freedom,” continued Cohen. “We are very proud, and humbled, to have earned the trust of every branch of the U.S. Military through their acceptance of the MHS program and adoption of the M17 and M18 pistols.”

Currently, the M17 and M18 are in service with the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard. The USMC will begin their acquisition of the M18 pistol in 2020.

Inside, there is MOLLE hook-and-loop on the interior walls for customizing the configuration and there are internal fixation points for medical equipment. It includes three removable transparent pouches, detachable panels with elastic loops and a rain cover. It holds 40 liters (2441 cubic inches) of medical gear (not included in pack). It measures 20” x 12” x 9” (52 x 29 x 24cm) and weighs 92 ounces empty or 131 ounces with accessories (2.6kg empty / 3.7 kg full).

The officer from Wisconsin found, “The bag has a well-thought-out design and you are able to remove the cards and/or pouches with the (hook-and-loop) that is attached. They include (hook-and-loop) strips to attach to the pouches to indicate breathing or bleeding. The construction of the bag is great…it appears that this bag would hold everything you need to carry for a TEMS* unit. Overall, a nice kit, I would recommend it for any Medic Element.”

And an officer summed up the Move On backpack with, “The shoulder and waist straps are fully adjustable, quite comfortable and are extra-long. This extra strap length allows for easily carrying the kit while wearing your body armor. The pack back is padded, adjustable, and is comfortable. When the pack is fully loaded and cinched down, this is a comfortable pack to wear, has no dangling stuff and is dead quiet. I like this pack!”

Company Also Donates Proceeds from Product Sales to Concerns of Police Survivors

EAGLEVILLE, PA, June 17, 2019 – Streamlight^®, Inc., a leading provider of high-performance lighting and weapon light/laser sighting devices for the law enforcement market, has renewed its sponsorship of Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) for the 20^thyear in a row. The company’s support helps to underwrite ongoing programs and activities for survivors of fallen officers. Streamlight’s contribution for 2019 totaled $121,000, including $8,700 in proceeds from recent sales of its Blue Nano Light^®and Blue Siege^® AA lantern.

On June 5th, Streamlight also hosted its 5^th annual C.O.P.S. 5K/Fun Walk at Lower Perkiomen Valley Park Trail in Oaks, PA, located close to the company’s headquarters. Participants in the run included 134 Streamlight employees and associates, who raised over $4,000.

Streamlight’s support helped to fund C.O.P.S. activities in Washington, D.C. leading up to National Police Week, May 15-21. As part of the annual C.O.P.S. observance, which honors fallen officers and their families, Streamlight once again served as a major sponsor of the organization’s annual survivor’s luncheon. The company also was a sponsor of the Blue Honor Gala, celebrating the 35th anniversary of C.O.P.S. and the 10th anniversary of Law Enforcement United, an organization which also commemorates fallen officers.

Streamlight earmarks $1.00 from the sale of each Blue Nano light to C.O.P.S. The keychain flashlight boasts a super bright white LED and a double-sided FOB that features the C.O.P.S. logo on one side and the Streamlight logo on the other side. Streamlight also donates $2.00 from the sale of each Blue Siege AA lantern, featuring one white and two blue LEDS, and the C.O.P.S. logo on its globe.
