U.S. Defense Logistics Agency assigns MOHOC’s first two NSNs

Seattle, WA. MOHOC, Inc., creator of the world’s first military-optimized helmet cameras, has been awarded two NATO/National Stock Numbers (NSNs) for its MOHOC® Camera and MOHOC® IR Camera (infrared model) by the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) following requests from multiple NATO Member States.
“We are excited to offer our customers the contracting ease and logistical convenience that comes with NSNs,” commented John Prosser, MOHOC Director of International Sales. NSSF Launches +ONESM Mentorship Initiative

NEWTOWN, Conn. — In response to studies showing millions of people want to know more about hunting and target shooting, the National Shooting Sports Foundation ®(NSSF®) has announced a powerful new mentorship initiative called the +ONE MovementSM.

“We all know that getting involved in hunting and the shooting sports can be a challenge for people who have never gone before,” said NSSF President Joe Bartozzi. “Having a mentor at your side makes it much easier for someone to get started. With the +ONE Movement, we’re challenging every hunter and target shooter in America to introduce at least one new person to the sports we love.”

A major barrier for people wanting to learn about hunting and target shooting is that basic knowledge of these pastimes is not passed down from adults to youth as commonly as it once was. That’s where programs that inspire mentoring — like +ONE — can make a huge difference. According to recent research, if just one in three hunters added a new person to the ranks of hunting, it would secure a strong future for hunting. For target shooting, given that current participation levels are positive already, adding to the ranks only strengthens this growing community.

The +ONE Movement is supported by NSSF’s recently launched LetsGoShooting.org andLetsGoHunting.org. Each site hosts how-to articles and videos from subject-matter experts — content that mentors and participants of all skill levels will find valuable — as well as a host of resources for new and existing hunters and target shooters. There are also two brand-new sections created specifically for mentors for both hunting and the shooting sports.

NSSF asks its industry partners, outdoor media and social media influencers to help spread the word about the +ONE Movement, reminding everyone in the firearms-owning community that they can play a role in establishing a secure future for hunting and shooting sports.

Women’s Shooting League Raises Awareness and Funds for Childhood Cancer Foundation

AUSTIN –  A Girl & A Gun Women’s Shooting League (AG & AG) raised funds for childhood cancer by selling two t-shirt designs in 2019 that promoted awareness of the disease. The Unstoppable AF shirt and the Childhood Cancer Awareness shirt were sold through the AG & AG website. Five dollars from each shirt sale was earmarked for the Cooper Trooper Foundation.
Worldwide a child is diagnosed with cancer every three minutes, and one in five children diagnosed with cancer will die within five years. The causes of most childhood cancers are unknown.

“So many children suffer because of a delayed diagnosis,” says AG & AG Executive Director Robyn Sandoval. “Through our network of women, we can educate families about the symptoms of pediatric brain cancer so that children can get earlier intervention and have better outcomes.”

Thirty t-shirt sales resulted in one hundred fifty dollars that will go the Cooper Trooper Foundation to help fund research and help families of children battling cancer.

Sandoval, whose daughter is battling brain cancer, adds, “AG & AG is making an impact by raising awareness of charities like the Cooper Trooper Foundation that are working to improve the lives of the fighters and fund research for a cure.”

AG & AG believes strongly in giving back. As a national organization it encourages charitable giving and promotes awareness for a number of worthy causes.  The organization’s motto is “It’s More Than Shooting.”

THE BUSINESS CASE FOR THE WALL

It’s Friday and we’ve made it through another week. Hurray! Those of you that are last minute shoppers get your shopping done so you can relax and enjoy the Season.

Listen folks, I don’t know about you but I’m utterly embarrassed by the way our future Speaker of the House and Senate Minority Leader conducted themselves in the Oval Office while  discussing funding the government and the Wall. It was apparent to me, and media around the world, that what we have going on in Congress is a food fight; which,  further reinforces the generally accepted belief that Congress legislates by anal extraction. It was obvious, at least to me,  that It’s more important to deny the opposition an accomplishment than it is to solve a pressing national problem.

So, it’s for that reason that I decided to make this week’s shoot the shit topic a “Business Case for the Wall.” As with all shoot the shits, readers are free to make unsupported statements, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone they wish or change the subject altogether. And, now …

THE WALL

There are a number of authoritative sources available on line, including the DEA,  who attempt to dimension the scope of the United States’ illicit drug problem. For my discussion I’ve chosen $ 160 billion a year, the most conservative estimate – my pie chart below shows how that $160 billion estimate is allocated. However, a better number in about $197 billion a year, with a high degree of confidence, an estimate that is expected to grow as more and more states legalize recreational use of marijuana, and although public opinion is that marijuana is not a gateway drug, one thing is certain,  the majority of illicit drug addicts have all been marijuana users. Having said that, what are the benefits of a wall.

One obvious benefit is illegal immigration control. Illegal immigration serves as a catalyst for prostitution, drug trafficking and gang member recruitment, false identification crimes and identity theft; not to mention placing a financial strain on social safety net budgets. A second benefit is its impact on illicit drug control.

Presently, United States drug users account for $100 billion per year of drug cartel revenues. That cash flow goes to increasing drug trade, purchasing weapons,  the corruption and destabilization of Central American governments, funds gangs like Columbia’s FARC and Peru’s Sendero Luminoso to name just two. It’s also a source of income for radical Islamist groups. If the wall were only effective in reducing 25% of illicit drugs, it would reduce drug cartel revenues by $25 billion per year. Additionally, all enforcement efforts would greatly benefit.

A wall would allow more effective use of CBP personnel. Rather than increasing manpower, by far the more costly approach, agents could be better allocated among geographical areas that represent a greater risk thus shortening response times and improved resource utilization. Dollars spent hiring personnel can be applied to improving voice and data communications needed by agents operating in remote areas where 3G or 4G networks are not available.

Those who argue that a wall is not effective need to consider that patrolling the border using UAVs has a huge annual recurring cost, demands highly skilled personnel and can readily be defeated. All a drug smuggler need do is estimate agent response time to the their crossing point; whereas, a wall is a physical barrier requiring time and energy to defeat. Once the initial investment is made, maintaining the wall is less costly year over year.

With it’s ability to discourage illegal immigration, reduce illicit drug trafficking, reduce manpower requirements and lower recurring cost, the wall,  when fully implemented, has a payback of less than a year.

To our legislators, do your homework and don’t be like the child that covers his ears and rants because he does not want to listen.

Olson, Maguire Honored for Service to Special Operations Forces

ARLINGTON, VA – Retired Navy Adm. Eric Olson and retired Navy Vice Adm. Joseph Maguire are the 2019 recipients of the highest honors of the Special Operations and Low Intensity Conflict (SO/LIC) division of the National Defense Industrial Association, the Arlington, VA-based nonprofit defense industrial group announced today.

Olson will receive the R. Lynn Rylander Award, named for a Defense Department civilian and a founder of the SO/LIC division, who was an advocate and activist for Special Operations Forces. Maguire will receive the DeProspero Lifetime Achievement Award, named for retired Army Col. Albert DeProspero, who served in Special Forces and is another founding member of the SO/LIC division, as well as supporter and advocate of the Special Operations community.

These awards, presented annually, recognize each man’s distinct contribution of lasting impact in Special Operations, low-intensity conflict and irregular warfare. The awardees will be recognized during a banquet Tuesday, Feb. 5, the first day of the 30th annual SO/LIC Symposium and Exhibition at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City at Reagan National Airport in Arlington. The 2019 event runs Feb. 5-7.

Olson retired from the Navy in 2011 after a 38-year career. He commanded at every level in Naval Special Operations, culminating as the eighth commander of U.S. Special Operations Command. Olson was the first Navy SEAL to be appointed to three-star and four-star flag ranks, as well as the first naval officer to be USSOCOM’s combatant commander. He is now an independent consultant who supports a wide range of private- and public-sector organizations. He also is an adjunct professor and research scholar in the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University.

Maguire retired from the Navy in 2010 after a 36-year career, mostly in Naval Special Operations. In his last position, he was deputy director for strategic operational planning at the National Counterterrorism Center. Previously, he was commander of Naval Special Warfare Command, home of the Navy SEALs and Special Warfare combatant craft crewmen. He was nominated by President Donald Trump and is awaiting Senate confirmation to be director of the National Counterterrorism Center.

The Firearms Technology Industry Services Branch (FTISB) classifies firearms as defined by the Gun Control Act (GCA) and National Firearms Act (NFA) based on the configuration and the design features of the firearm as submitted by members of the industry.

Effective immediately, any requests for a determination on how an accessory affects the classification of a firearm under the GCA or NFA must include a firearm with the accessory already installed. Except in cases of conditional import determinations, FTISB will not issue a determination on an accessory unless it is attached to the submitted firearm.

Cody, Wyo. (December 2018) – Big Horn Armory, makers of big-bore firearms, have developed an all-purpose lever-action, big-bore, Scout rifle in .500 S&W. The late Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper, US Veteran, author, professor and founder of Gunsite, was a major advocate for the Scout rifle concept; a rifle that was compact, easy to use and carry for hunting, target or defense. Typically, Scout rifles have become synonymous with bolt-action rifles, but BHA has expanded the concept with its new lever-action Scout model.

“Big Horn Armory’s success is a combination of combining legendary firearms platforms, such as the lever-action (and recently the AR) and big game calibers,” Greg Buchel, president of Big Horn Armory, said. “With the Scout rifle, we are incorporating all the features in a great, multi-purpose work-horse of a rifle. Our Scout is short, easy to shoot and utilizes the .500 S&W cartridge.”

Built on the BHA Model 89 platform with a 17-4 stainless steel, nitrited barreled action and receiver in a Hunter Black matte black finish, the Scout rifle buttstock and forend are made from black laminate with a synthetic satin finish and a 1” recoil pad on the buttstock. It also has a Scout scope Picatinny rail and Skinner Aperture rear sight and a white dot front sight.

From small game to working around the yard, the Chico Diablo is the knife you will teach your son how to field dress with and the one you will give your grandson. It comes equipped with a moderate trailing point for fine work and easy penetration, making it ideal for field dressing and cleaning game. The Chico Diablo has a smooth up swept bevel for skinning and the end of the swedge provides a positive stop location. Made from Nitro-V Stainless Steel with a blade thickness of 0.187,” the Chico Diablo measures 8” L x 1.25” W with a 3.75” cutting edge length. The knife is designed at a 0.25” thickness to provide durability and for wedging, comes with baton area on spine at head of blade and includes a ferrocerium rod scraper on the back to preserve edge retention. It’s been a couple of weeks since we’ve had a good shoot the shit, so we’re overdue for one. But, before getting started, I want to take a moment to remember our 41st President of the United States, George Herbert Walker Bush. He was a prominent member of America’s Greatest Generation, and a World War II veteran. He dedicated his life to public service and gave us his son George W. Bush who, in his father’s tradition, got us through some difficult times. G.H.W., may you rest in eternal peace and may your life inspire young Americans to love their country and to serve the way you gave of yourself. By the way George, I hate broccoli too, it’s like eating shrubbery!
All right, so what is a shoot the shit?
A shoot the shit is an informal period of social interaction where participants don’t need to know anything about the subjects being discussed. As a participant, you can make unsupported comments, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone you wish or change the subject altogether. There’s no specific agenda, and it’s far more effective than paying some jackass who studied psychology in college so they could understand themselves.

The Daily Wire published an article that will blow your socks off “UNHAPPY MEAL: Michigan Lawmakers Want To Ban Fast Food Chains From Offering ‘Gender-Specific’ Toys”, 29 Nov 2018. Apparently, there are a dozen or more Michigan lawmakers that are asking fast food chains not to offer gender specific toys in their Happy Meal boxes for kids. You’ve got to be kidding me. So what do you do when your 3 to 5 year old kids start exploring themselves and wonder why one is different from the other. Amazing folks!

On a different note, but along the same lines, the U.S. Airforce relieved Lt. Col. Paul Goossen of his post, commanding the 69th Bomb Squadron, after crude penis drawings were discovered on the plane’s Combat Network Communications Technology (CONECT) moving map software, which records shared data for post-sortie debriefs. Apparently there were several participants and took place during the unit’s deployment to Al Udeid Air Force Base in Qatar between September 2017 and April 2018. They were planning on saving these images to CD for later viewing but someone slipped and left evidence behind which was discovered and reported to the chain of command. LOL! Please forgive me because I can’t stop laughing! I don’t know what more to say but I guess we can stop calling the cockpit a “cockpit.”

I watched a good portion of G.H.W. Bush’s ceremony and caught Dan Quayle’s interaction with the media. As you may recall, Dan Quayle was subjected to considerable harassment about his spelling abilities, apparently he had a hard time with “potato. “ None of that would have been a problem had Twitter been up and running back then. G.H.W. Bush still hung in there with Dan. How’s that for loyalty.

In a stroke of crania-vaginal inversion, one of the Senate luminaries, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, decided to let the world know that the future belongs to females and intersectional. So, what the hell is intersectional? I Googled it and here is the search results:
