Tasmanian Tiger® Introduces the TT Modular Radio Pack for Communications Systems

Designed specifically for RTO’s, the TT Modular Radio Pack allows the communication operator to customize his carry pack.

Miramar, Fla. (December 2018) – Tasmanian Tiger®, a tactical nylon line of products distributed exclusively for the U.S. market by Proforce Equipment, Inc is introducing a modular back pack exclusively designed for the Radio Telephone Operator (RTO) or communications person. Built to accommodate the PRC 117 F, TRM 6020/21 and SEM70 combat radios, the radio compartment fixing can be adjusted for height and width with zippered openings on top for quick and easy access.

The TT Modular Radio pack has a padded back carrying system for comfort and a detachable rear panel with an aluminum frame that can be shaped to fit the individual. The pack also features side compression straps for a snug fit. The Laser Cut MOLLE hip belt is removable and can be used separately as a Warrior Belt. On the front of the pack are two exterior pouches and an adjustable front flap. A laser cut MOLLE system for additional pouches and accessories can be found on both sides and the front pocket.

The large main compartment also has MOLLE hook-and-loop on the inside for modular expansion. The shoulder straps have cable guides and outlet ports and the pack is also outfitted with a loop attachment system for accessories, as well as a battery compartment and includes a removable rain cover. The pack is also hydration system compatible within the front flap.

Team SIG Turns In Dominating Year for 2018

Team SIG Turns In Dominating Year for 2018

In 2018, Team SIG Captain Max Michel had an exceptional year while choosing to focus primarily on Carry Optics competition. Max remained undefeated as the USPSA National Carry-Optics Champion for the third-year in a row, and set four new world records at the World Speed Shooting Championships in addition to taking home the “World Speed Shooting Champion” title. In 2018 Max earned a total of thirteen championship titles using his P320 XFIVE, ROMEO1 or ROMEO3 optic, and SIG SAUER 9mm Match Elite Pistol Competition Ammunition.

Team SIG Professional Shooter Lena Miculek proved to be a force in Pistol Caliber Carbine (PCC) competition. In 2018 Miculek earned seven “High Lady” titles in PCC, and an additional six “High Lady” titles in open and optics divisions. Following Miculek’s dominating performance at the USPSA Nationals, where she was the first female to earn a top five overall finish in PCC, she has since become the first female to earn Grandmaster Class for PCC. For the 2018 season, Miculek competed using a P320 XFIVE pistol, SIG MPX PCC, ROMEO3 Optic, and SIG SAUER 9mm Match Elite Pistol Competition Ammunition. 

The newest member of Team SIG, Daniel Horner, joined Team SIG in September and earned a championship title in his first match representing Team SIG at the 2018 SIG SAUER Fort Benning Multi-Gun Challenge. Prior to joining Team SIG, Horner earned seven championship titles in 3-Gun competition as the Captain of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) in the 2018 competition year. To compete, Horner uses a P320 XFIVE pistol with iron sights and SIG SAUER 9mm Match Elite Pistol Competition Ammunition, a SIGM400 Rife with a TANGO6 Optic, and SIG SAUER Match and Varmint .223 Ammunition.

Walk The Talk America Attempts to Build Bridge Between Firearms and Mental Health Industry

Non-profit Walk The Talk America is acting to bring caring firearms-related companies together with mental health programs in need, changing to help those suffering from mental health issues.

The issue of firearms ownership is clearly one of the issues that creates the most passionate emotional response from both sides of America’s political spectrum. Walk The Talk America, a new non-profit founded by Eagle Imports firearms company president, Michael Sodini, is a non-partisan effort to bring the best elements of the firearms industry out to work with the mental health industry, in tangible, real ways. By doing this, Walk The Talk America will illustrate that firearms-related businesses DO care about mental health problems in America, are working to help solve them, and ultimately be part of providing a stream of much needed extra resources for the mental health industry, that is a win-win for all involved.

First as a Marine, then as head of Joint Forces Command and Central Command, and most recently as Secretary of Defense, Mattis has given everything to this country for more than four decades. He has been a protector of our nation, a guiding light in American foreign policy, a bridge for our allies and a tireless advocate for our warfighters. He has solidly earned the respect of our armed forces, Capitol Hill and the American people.
As Secretary Mattis boldly enshrined in our National Defense Strategy, in this time of great power competition, the next secretary should continue to bolster our forces using the administration’s increased focus on regaining readiness, investing in modernization and innovation, keeping our defense industrial base secure and dynamic and ensuring much needed resources at hand. These will further enable the strategy’s call to strengthen our alliances to eliminate malign actors and retain our superiority over competitors.
The recently released defense industrial base study warns of fluctuations in spending and capacity. The future of our nation depends on a steady, focused commitment. As Secretary Mattis himself once said, war is a fundamentally unpredictable phenomenon, history shows preparation as the best deterrent to prevent war and the best guarantor of victory in the event of war.

U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Awards Olin-Winchester a 9MM caliber RITA Ammunition Contract

EAST ALTON, Ill. (December 19, 2018) –  U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recently awarded Olin-Winchester a major ammunition contract. Starting delivery in 2019, the contract provides for up to 62.5 million rounds of 9MM caliber “Readily Identifiable Training Ammunition” (R.I.T.A) to multiple Department of Homeland Security law enforcement components and other federal agencies for up to five (5) years. This contract will provide the organization’s agents and officers with 9MM caliber training ammunition.
The 9mm/115 grain FMJ product, assembled with a distinctive “purple” colored brass shell case, will complement existing Winchester .40SW & .223 “R.I.T.A” products that have been in service for DHS training efforts for several years.

Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF)- What You Need to Know About the Final Bump Stock Rule

On December 18, 2018, Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker announced that the Department of Justice has amended the regulations of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), clarifying that bump stocks fall within the definition of “machinegun” under federal law, as such devices allow a shooter of a semiautomatic firearm to initiate a continuous firing cycle with a single pull of the trigger.

The final rule clarifies that the definition of “machinegun” in the Gun Control Act (GCA) and National Firearms Act (NFA) includes bump-stock-type devices, i.e., devices that allow a semiautomatic firearm to shoot more than one shot with a single pull of the trigger by harnessing the recoil energy of the semiautomatic firearm to which it is affixed so that the trigger resets and continues firing without additional physical manipulation of the trigger by the shooter.

The rule will go into effect 90 days from the date of publication in the Federal Register.

What To Do

Current possessors of bump-stock-type devices must divest themselves of possession as of the effective date of the final rule.

One option is to destroy the device, and the final rule identifies possible methods of destruction, to include completely melting, shredding, or crushing the device. Any method of destruction must render the device incapable of being readily restored to function.

Current possessors also have the option to abandon bump-stock-type devices at the nearest ATF office. ATF advises that it is best to make an appointment beforehand with the nearest ATF office.

On February 20, 2018, President Trump issued a memorandum instructing the Attorney General “to dedicate all available resources to… propose for notice and comment a rule banning all devices that turn legal weapons into machineguns.”

In response to that direction the Department reviewed more than 186,000 public comments and made the decision to make clear that the term “machinegun” as used in the National Firearms Act (NFA), as amended, and Gun Control Act (GCA), as amended, includes all bump-stock-type devices that harness recoil energy to facilitate the continuous operation of a semiautomatic long gun after a single pull of the trigger.

Madrid, December 17, 2018.-The European Safedrone project, which will carry out one of the largest European flight demonstrations of drones and conventional aircraft sharing airspace at very low level takes off with the aim to unleash the capability of unmanned aircraft to provide all kinds of services in rural areas and cities in the next decade.

Funded by the EU, through H2020 and the SESAR JU, the project is being launched by a consortium led by technology and consultancy company Indra and comprising the Center for Advanced Aerospace Technologies (FADA-CATEC), Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), Unifly, the University of Seville, ENAIRE (the air traffic management and navigation services state-owned company) and CRIDA (ATM Research, Development and Innovation Reference Center).

It will develop a series of innovative services —that forms what is known as the U-space— that will facilitate access for drones to the airspace that extends from the ground to 120 meters in altitude. Safedrone’s demonstrations will help to define the operational context for these services.

The exercises will involve up to eight aircraft of different types –drones, fixed-wing and rotatory wing light aircraft- flying simultaneously in the same airspace.

They will include beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations in rural and semi-urban areas, recreating situations such as the delivery of medical supplies, aerial mapping and land surveying.

All tests and flights will take place at the ATLAS Experimental Flight Center located in Villacarrillo (Jaén), Spain.

Digitalization of U-space

Maintaining security levels in air operations at very low altitude will require a high degree of digitalization and automation of a large number of functions.

The Safedrone project aims to define and detail pre-flight services (electronic registration, electronic identification, planning and flight approval) as well as in-flight services (geolimitation or geofencing, flight tracking, dynamic airspace information and automatic technologies to detect and avoid obstacles).

The concepts and technologies used will be proposed to the various standardization bodies, such as EUROCAE and GUTMA, and air regulatory authorities, such as the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the Spanish Aviation Safety and Security Agency (AESA), in order to provide evidence to support the safe integration of drones in VLL operations.

ENAIRE

ENAIRE is the company belonging to the Public Works Department that handles air navigation in Spain. It renders aerodrome control services at 21 airports, including the 5 busiest in terms of air traffic.

NSSF Launches +ONESM Mentorship Initiative

NEWTOWN, Conn. — In response to studies showing millions of people want to know more about hunting and target shooting, the National Shooting Sports Foundation ®(NSSF®) has announced a powerful new mentorship initiative called the +ONE MovementSM.

“We all know that getting involved in hunting and the shooting sports can be a challenge for people who have never gone before,” said NSSF President Joe Bartozzi. “Having a mentor at your side makes it much easier for someone to get started. With the +ONE Movement, we’re challenging every hunter and target shooter in America to introduce at least one new person to the sports we love.”

A major barrier for people wanting to learn about hunting and target shooting is that basic knowledge of these pastimes is not passed down from adults to youth as commonly as it once was. That’s where programs that inspire mentoring — like +ONE — can make a huge difference. According to recent research, if just one in three hunters added a new person to the ranks of hunting, it would secure a strong future for hunting. For target shooting, given that current participation levels are positive already, adding to the ranks only strengthens this growing community.

The +ONE Movement is supported by NSSF’s recently launched LetsGoShooting.org andLetsGoHunting.org. Each site hosts how-to articles and videos from subject-matter experts — content that mentors and participants of all skill levels will find valuable — as well as a host of resources for new and existing hunters and target shooters. There are also two brand-new sections created specifically for mentors for both hunting and the shooting sports.

Women’s Shooting League Raises Awareness and Funds for Childhood Cancer Foundation

AUSTIN –  A Girl & A Gun Women’s Shooting League (AG & AG) raised funds for childhood cancer by selling two t-shirt designs in 2019 that promoted awareness of the disease. The Unstoppable AF shirt and the Childhood Cancer Awareness shirt were sold through the AG & AG website. Five dollars from each shirt sale was earmarked for the Cooper Trooper Foundation.
Worldwide a child is diagnosed with cancer every three minutes, and one in five children diagnosed with cancer will die within five years. The causes of most childhood cancers are unknown.

“So many children suffer because of a delayed diagnosis,” says AG & AG Executive Director Robyn Sandoval. “Through our network of women, we can educate families about the symptoms of pediatric brain cancer so that children can get earlier intervention and have better outcomes.”

Thirty t-shirt sales resulted in one hundred fifty dollars that will go the Cooper Trooper Foundation to help fund research and help families of children battling cancer.

Sandoval, whose daughter is battling brain cancer, adds, “AG & AG is making an impact by raising awareness of charities like the Cooper Trooper Foundation that are working to improve the lives of the fighters and fund research for a cure.”

AG & AG believes strongly in giving back. As a national organization it encourages charitable giving and promotes awareness for a number of worthy causes.  The organization’s motto is “It’s More Than Shooting.”

It was apparent to me, and media around the world, that what we have going on in Congress is a food fight; which,  further reinforces the generally accepted belief that Congress legislates by anal extraction. It was obvious, at least to me,  that It’s more important to deny the opposition an accomplishment than it is to solve a pressing national problem.

So, it’s for that reason that I decided to make this week’s shoot the shit topic a “Business Case for the Wall.” As with all shoot the shits, readers are free to make unsupported statements, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone they wish or change the subject altogether. And, now …

THE WALL

There are a number of authoritative sources available on line, including the DEA,  who attempt to dimension the scope of the United States’ illicit drug problem. For my discussion I’ve chosen $ 160 billion a year, the most conservative estimate – my pie chart below shows how that $160 billion estimate is allocated. However, a better number in about $197 billion a year, with a high degree of confidence, an estimate that is expected to grow as more and more states legalize recreational use of marijuana, and although public opinion is that marijuana is not a gateway drug, one thing is certain,  the majority of illicit drug addicts have all been marijuana users. Having said that, what are the benefits of a wall.

One obvious benefit is illegal immigration control. Illegal immigration serves as a catalyst for prostitution, drug trafficking and gang member recruitment, false identification crimes and identity theft; not to mention placing a financial strain on social safety net budgets. A second benefit is its impact on illicit drug control.

Presently, United States drug users account for $100 billion per year of drug cartel revenues. That cash flow goes to increasing drug trade, purchasing weapons,  the corruption and destabilization of Central American governments, funds gangs like Columbia’s FARC and Peru’s Sendero Luminoso to name just two. It’s also a source of income for radical Islamist groups. If the wall were only effective in reducing 25% of illicit drugs, it would reduce drug cartel revenues by $25 billion per year. Additionally, all enforcement efforts would greatly benefit.

A wall would allow more effective use of CBP personnel. Rather than increasing manpower, by far the more costly approach, agents could be better allocated among geographical areas that represent a greater risk thus shortening response times and improved resource utilization. Dollars spent hiring personnel can be applied to improving voice and data communications needed by agents operating in remote areas where 3G or 4G networks are not available.

Those who argue that a wall is not effective need to consider that patrolling the border using UAVs has a huge annual recurring cost, demands highly skilled personnel and can readily be defeated. All a drug smuggler need do is estimate agent response time to the their crossing point; whereas, a wall is a physical barrier requiring time and energy to defeat. Once the initial investment is made, maintaining the wall is less costly year over year.

With it’s ability to discourage illegal immigration, reduce illicit drug trafficking, reduce manpower requirements and lower recurring cost, the wall,  when fully implemented, has a payback of less than a year.

To our legislators, do your homework and don’t be like the child that covers his ears and rants because he does not want to listen.

Olson, Maguire Honored for Service to Special Operations Forces

ARLINGTON, VA – Retired Navy Adm. Eric Olson and retired Navy Vice Adm. Joseph Maguire are the 2019 recipients of the highest honors of the Special Operations and Low Intensity Conflict (SO/LIC) division of the National Defense Industrial Association, the Arlington, VA-based nonprofit defense industrial group announced today.

Olson will receive the R. Lynn Rylander Award, named for a Defense Department civilian and a founder of the SO/LIC division, who was an advocate and activist for Special Operations Forces. Maguire will receive the DeProspero Lifetime Achievement Award, named for retired Army Col. Albert DeProspero, who served in Special Forces and is another founding member of the SO/LIC division, as well as supporter and advocate of the Special Operations community.

These awards, presented annually, recognize each man’s distinct contribution of lasting impact in Special Operations, low-intensity conflict and irregular warfare. The awardees will be recognized during a banquet Tuesday, Feb. 5, the first day of the 30th annual SO/LIC Symposium and Exhibition at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City at Reagan National Airport in Arlington. The 2019 event runs Feb. 5-7.

Olson retired from the Navy in 2011 after a 38-year career. He commanded at every level in Naval Special Operations, culminating as the eighth commander of U.S. Special Operations Command. Olson was the first Navy SEAL to be appointed to three-star and four-star flag ranks, as well as the first naval officer to be USSOCOM’s combatant commander. He is now an independent consultant who supports a wide range of private- and public-sector organizations. He also is an adjunct professor and research scholar in the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University.

Maguire retired from the Navy in 2010 after a 36-year career, mostly in Naval Special Operations. In his last position, he was deputy director for strategic operational planning at the National Counterterrorism Center. Previously, he was commander of Naval Special Warfare Command, home of the Navy SEALs and Special Warfare combatant craft crewmen. He was nominated by President Donald Trump and is awaiting Senate confirmation to be director of the National Counterterrorism Center.

Effective Immediately: Discontinuance of Accessory Classifications 12/10/2018

The Firearms Technology Industry Services Branch (FTISB) classifies firearms as defined by the Gun Control Act (GCA) and National Firearms Act (NFA) based on the configuration and the design features of the firearm as submitted by members of the industry.

Effective immediately, any requests for a determination on how an accessory affects the classification of a firearm under the GCA or NFA must include a firearm with the accessory already installed. Except in cases of conditional import determinations, FTISB will not issue a determination on an accessory unless it is attached to the submitted firearm.

If you have previously submitted a sample accessory for classification, FTISB will be returning your sample without classification. FTISB will contact you in the near future with further instructions to facilitate the return of your sample.

Built on the BHA Model 89 platform with a 17-4 stainless steel, nitrited barreled action and receiver in a Hunter Black matte black finish, the Scout rifle buttstock and forend are made from black laminate with a synthetic satin finish and a 1” recoil pad on the buttstock. It also has a Scout scope Picatinny rail and Skinner Aperture rear sight and a white dot front sight.
