Ashbury Precision Ordnance Selected to Build Full-Featured, Entry-Level Precision Rifles for “Hide” Students
Ruckersville, VA. – Recently Ashbury Precision Ordnance Mfg was selected by SnipersHide.com, the Internet’s largest tactical marksman community, to create an all American made, full-featured, entry level precision rifle for recreational long range shooting and multi-sport long gun competition. The APO precision rifle platform selected, and specially configured for this Sniper’s Hide project is the SABER® M700™ ERT (Extended Range Tactical) rifle, chambered in .308 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor.
APO’s Custom Shop started production on the Sniper’s Hide rifle in March 2019.The rifle was designed to an operational spec by Frank Galli, Managing Director of the Sniper’s Hide, in close collaboration with Ashbury’s Precision Weapons Section.
Galli, himself a former US Marine Corps Scout Sniper, tasked APO to create a solid, best value, precision rifle for novices attending the growing number of Sniper’s Hide Precision Rifle training courses. The rifle absolutely needed to be a “sub-MOA out of the box range ready” rifle for training, recreational shooting and tactical competition, with no upgrades required.
“Many Sniper’s Hide students have little to no background selecting their first precision rife and have limited budgets,” said Galli. “Too many students end up spending far more on a rifle than they need to, not understanding precision rifle shooting is a sport you grow into,” continued Galli. “More often than not we see students regrettably make poor initial purchasing decisions and end up with a first rifle that doesn’t work for them. But here at the Hide, we are looking to help the new shooter make smarter choices!”
The Sniper’s Hide rifle provides the novice precision rifle shooter with a quality, all American made rifle with sub-MOA performance, configurability, modularity and upgradeability – features unavailable on other entry level rifle platforms. The Hide’s precision rifle is designed to allow student to focus on executing the fundamentals of precision rifle marksmanship and not be distracted by a poorly set-up, inaccurate rifle.
“As a precision rifle instructor teaching students across the country,” said Galli, “the number one question we get is always about gear. ‘What rifle should I buy?’ And the answers can vary wildly based on the current conditions out there in the market and who’s doing the most advertising. By partnering with the team at Ashbury Precision Ordnance we now have a single, vetted answer.”
We focused on simplicity and adjustability for this precision rifle build. Based off a proven Remington Model 700 barreled action, we added a second layer of quality control and then combined it with a modular APO SABER® FORSST® chassis variant. We wanted a stock that focused on rifle marksmanship giving the student the adjustability to fit any given size and body type – an important factor assuring shooter success.

Amongst the many unique aspects of this rifle include (and most notably) the fact that a customer can customize his/her rifle at the time of purchase with a wide range of options using APO’s Rifle Configurator. For the more experienced shooters desiring higher levels of performance and/or alternate calibers, custom riflesmithing upgrades are offered. The Sniper’s Hide Special Edition Rifle program offers Hide students and novice shooters the full support and advantages of Ashbury’s Veteran US Marine Corps 2112 Gunsmiths and 2111 Armorer lead Precision Weapons Section.

The Sniper’s Hide rifle, crafted by the APO Custom Shop, begins with hand-select factory, Remington Model 700™ SPS AAC-SD barreled actions. These are brought into Ashbury’s Precision Weapons Section and undergo a detailed technical inspection, gauging, and accurizing process. Each barreled action is then fitted with a tuned Trigger Tech single stage trigger set to a crisp reliable 3 pound pull.
The newly accurized Model 700 SPS AAC-SD™ barreled action muzzle is factory threaded 5/8-24 TPI and fitted with APO’s Arclight SC-3 muzzle brake. And fitted with a 20 MOA Picatinny scope base rail.
The Sniper’s Hide Special Edition SABER-M700 ERT Rifle is built on the patented lightweight SABER RSA-A3 MRCS-AR modular rifle chassis system. The MRCS-AR rifle chassis is upgraded with a TASS Tactically Adjustable Shoulder Stock featuring a thumb screw cheek piece height adjustment, screw-in length of pull spacers and push button recoil pad drop position. This ergonomically adjustable precision rifle shoulder stock is purpose built for the rigors of the tactical shooting environment, is fitted with a premium Limbsaver® recoil pad and Butt Hook for stable non-firing hand support. The TASS shoulder stock is mounted to the SABER chassis center section with a robust tension adjustable double locking hinge, to fold the rifle reducing its length for transport and stowage.
The Sniper’s Hide Special Edition Rifle features a re-positionable Magpul MOE hand-grip adjustable for small and large hands, and a changeable 11° degree grip angle to maintain a secure yet comfortable grip on the rifle. Each rifle comes standard with a 5-rd Magpul AICS pattern polymer magazine and ambidextrous paddle lever magazine catch-release.
The octagonal aluminum alloy forend incorporates M-LOK accessory rail attachment points at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock. The installed 6 o’clock forend M-LOK Picatinny rail segment and stud allows for a variety of bipod and tripod mounting options. The patented SABER® modular rifle chassis is manufactured from aerospace grade aluminum alloys, and advanced carbon reinforced composites.
The base rifle weighs in at a nimble 11.25 lbs which is a real consideration for novices unfamiliar with physical demands of positional rifle marksmanship or tactical shooting competitions. SABER rifle chassis are also well known for low felt recoil, a big plus for recoil sensitive shooters. The rifle chassis is offered in premium Cerakote finishes to include: H-190 Armor Black, H-234 Sniper Grey, H-265 Flat Dark Earth and H-236 OD Green. The barreled action is finished in Remington’s factory Black Oxide coating with the option of a Cerakote finish.
Ashbury’s other high profile custom rifle build successes include the honor of building a limited edition signature series of fifty individually numbered tactical rifles for the National Rifle Association. These custom built APO rifles bear the signature of the legendary Major Land E. J. Land Jr. (USMC Retired), the former Secretary of the NRA and heralded father of the modern Marine Corps Scout Sniper.
