PROOF Research’s Carbon Fiber Barrels Integral to New 300 PRC MRAD® Barrett Rifles Contracted by US Department of Defense

The contract was announced 2018 year-end, for an undisclosed number of Barrett’s modular, precision, bolt-action MRAD rifles, chambered in Hornady’s new long-range 300 PRC cartridge. The barrels for these rifles were engineered for purpose by PROOF and utilize a unique hand-laid, high-stiffness carbon wrap process to give the US military the very best barrel technology that is available today.

BLACKHAWK Releases Level 2 Compact (L2C) Version of New T-Series Holster

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia – July 16, 2019 – BLACKHAWK has spent the past several years behind closed doors in the Bozeman, Montana facility taking attention to detail and quality engineering to an even higher level to create a new line of duty-rated holsters: The T-Series. The latest evolution in this line is a Level 2 Compact (L2C) version that combines the durability and sturdiness of the L2D and L3D T-Series holsters with a streamlined and concealable form.
The T-Series family of holsters follows BLACKHAWK’s Master Grip Principle, meaning the holster encourages the user’s hand to naturally land exactly where it should in order to deploy the sidearm. This efficient movement pairs with a sound-dampening, low-friction, dual-density internal material for a fast, smooth, quiet and effortless draw, while the external proprietary, glass-reinforced nylon provides the highest degree of durability.

Black Goes With Everything: GLOCKs Newest Slimline Models Get a Makeover

SMYRNA, Ga. – July 15, 2019 GLOCK, Inc. announced today that two of the newest Slimline models, the GLOCK 43X and the GLOCK 48, are now available in an all-black factory finish. The G43X and G48 both feature a Slimline compact design for comfort, durability and reliability.

Chambered in 9X19, both pistols feature a compact Slimiline frame with an nDLC finish and a 10-round magazine capacity, making them ideal for concealed carry.

While the two pistols share the same size frame, they have different slide lengths. The slide for the G43X is the same sub-compact length as the G43 (6.06 in.) while the G48 has a compact length (6.85 in) and is compliant with Canadian regulations.

These pistols incorporate elements of the Slimline series such as the short trigger distance, a frame with a built-in beavertail, a reversible magazine catch and the incredibly accurate, match-grade GLOCK Marksman Barrel (GMB). The G43X and G48 also feature precision-milled front serrations. Both models are available in three sight configurations for commercial and LE; standard, GLOCK Night Sights (GNS), and Ameriglo BOLD.

Parabon NanoLabs to Present During 2019 National Symposium on Sex Offender Management and Accountability

The National Symposium will be held at the Palmer House (Hilton) in Chicago, Illinois, July 17 – 18, 2019.

Their presentation titled “DNA and Cold Cases” will focus on the 1988 rape and murder of April Tinsley in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Detective Martin will review the entire case, detailing the many twists and turns leading to its resolution in 2018. Since May 2018 Parabon has provided information to law enforcement agencies that have led to the resolution of over 60 of the most violent cases imaginable. Parabon’s Snapshot services include:

Snapshot Genetic Genealogy: This service is the combination of genetic analysis with traditional historical and genealogical research to study family history. For forensic investigators, it can be used to identify remains by tying the DNA to a family with a missing person or to point to the likely identity of a perpetrator.

Snapshot DNA Phenotyping: This service produces predictions of ancestry and appearance from a DNA sample and includes a composite image. It is ideal for cases where there are no genetic genealogy matches. With an in-depth Snapshot Composite Report investigators can focus their investigation and operate more efficiently.

Snapshot Kinship Inference: Unlike traditional forensic DNA methods, which are extremely limited in their ability to determine kinship past parent/child relationships, Snapshot can detect relatedness out to 9th-degree relatives (fourth cousins). If there is any suspicion whatsoever as to whether a family member may be involved in a crime against a victim, this single inexpensive test can be used to include or exclude the victim’s entire biological family, potentially saving months of investigative legwork.

Incidents such as those experienced at the Gatwick and Heathrow airports have highlighted the losses in the millions that can be incurred by the mere presence of such aircraft, either by pilot error or with hostile or illicit intent.

For Indra, the strategy to follow to defend any space must be based on three basic principles: adaptation to the specific needs of the environment being protected; integration and combined use of different sensors and countermeasures; and redundant use of sensors in terms of both number and location.

This will be the way to deal with increasingly intelligent and autonomous drones, which can swarm and make coordinated attacks.

To counteract them, there must be surveillance systems capable of detecting and identifying small drones. These systems must cope with different strategies of deception, concealment or even jamming that specialized attackers can develop.

The anti-drone systems must identify their type fast, even the drone model, and classify it as a friendly or enemy model.

They will incorporate highly targeted and effective soft countermeasures, something especially important for their use at airports to avoid interfering with radar and electronic systems, including their own aircraft.

The collaboration of governments, security forces and operators, regulators, system manufacturers and researchers will be essential.

The regulatory framework must clarify who can use an anti-drone system, under what conditions and to what extent. The procedures to be followed in each scenario must be agreed upon depending on the type of threat.

The company paid special attention in its analysis to the case of airports, in which the anti-drone system will have to be integrated with air traffic management (ATM) and unmanned aircraft management (UTM) systems to discriminate the authorized ones from those which may constitute a real threat.

The countermeasures that are used in this environment must be especially precise so as not to affect security or interrupt the service. In the military environment, the same applies to its integrated use with air defense systems.

Sailing takes me away…

I hope you all had a productive and stress free week, but in case you did not, chill out with me and let’s have a shoot the shit.

For readers not familiar with a shoot the shit, it’s a social interaction among coworkers, friends or family where participants don’t need to know anything about the subject being discussed, make any unsupported statement, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone they wish or change the subject altogether. A shoot the shit does not supplement anything; instead, it replaces fingering your smart device, social media and a trip to your therapist, who’s only reason for studying psychology was to understand himself or herself. So, let’s get started.

You’re all undoubtedly aware of the Climate Change outcry by individuals who wouldn’t know a carbon atom from a popsicle. These zealots, who offer no solutions, are calling for the end to fossil fuels, cow flatulence, etc. will soon see wind powered cargo ships. I kid you not, check it out!

This is the Neoliner, a 136 meter wind powered freighter. The ship was designed by MAURIC, a French naval architecture and marine engineering firm. They expect the ship to go into service in 2022 and have been signed transport agreements with RENAULT, MANITOU and BENETEAU. So, that new RENAULT you’ve been wanting my someday make its way to our shores via the Neoliner.

Now, I don’t want to sound like a total jackass but Blackbeard the pirate was a punk compared to my sailing skills. Step 1, I admit to not knowing Neoliner’s complete design, and I also assume it has a diesel power plant somewhere below decks . But, readers, sailboats can’t sail into the wind; doing so creates a condition called being in irons and as the name implies you don’t go anywhere. Secondly, sail boats heel in all points of sail, except when wind is blowing directly behind your vessel; this point of sail called running. The extent to which the vessel heels is a function of sail trim (the shape of the sail and angle of the sail to the relative wind) and the amount of sail you have up.

At sea, storms come up fast and I’ve personally experience going from a 20 mph breeze to 60 mph and rolling seas that were 15-30 feet high – in a matter of minutes. Preferably and prior to that happening, you must reduce the amount of sail as soon as possible, a procedure called reefing. If the winds are high enough, they may prevent your sail reefing mechanism from operating and you run the risk of being demasted.

Furthermore, in high seas, you must keep your bow pointed to the incoming seas, which usually requires deploying something called a sea anchor. If you fail to do that, your vessel will likely take a broadside and potentially suffer a knock down. Imagine what happens to its cargo, bummer!

So those are just a few of the concerns that I have but it should make Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez happy. Speaking of AOC…

Her latest effulgent comment was her desire to do away with the Department of Homeland Security. Folks, rest assured that Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez has no idea of the scope, depth and breath of DHS or what agencies comprise the Department.
Prior to DHS, government agencies responsible for national security did not know what the right hand and left hand were doing, there was no effective interagency communications. Since 9/11, DHS and the FBI have kept the citizens of this country safe; being from New York, you’d think she’d be a bit more astute, I guess she is too busy tweeting. But, what can you expect from an individual who announces the world will come to an end in 12 years and feels that Amazon locating its headquarters in New York City was bad for the community. Unbelievable!

RAS 72 Maritime Patrol Aircraft: Second Delivery to Pakistan Navy

RAS, Rheinland Air Service, has delivered a second aircraft to the Pakistan Navy. The aircraft, known as RAS 72 – Sea Eagle, is part of a multi-year contract signed in 2015 for equipping the Pakistan Navy with a modern fleet of maritime patrol aircraft. The first aircraft of the fleet was formally handed over in June 2018 and the second aircraft has been delivered after the introduction to the general public at the Paris International Airshow in June 2019.

During the handover ceremony at RAS headquarters in Mönchengladbach, Germany, Nikolaos Mavrikis, Director Special Mission Division, stated: “The Pakistan Navy has taken delivery of its second RAS 72 MPA, becoming the newest operator of RAS` latest generation airborne platform and Aerodata’s Mission Management system for anti-submarine warfare, based on the cost efficient twin-engine turbo prop ATR 72 platform. The two RAS 72 in operation provide our customer with strategic maritime dominance and endorse the defense and maritime security domain of Pakistan. Working closely with the Pakistan Navy, and based on the feedback received from the operators as well as from the naval aviators, we can clearly claim that this program has significantly extended the organization’s capabilities, modernized their fleet and endorsed the surveillance along the country’s costal border as well as in international waters”.

The variety of state-of-the-art on-board sensors enable operators and decision makers to detect and identify sensitive targets above or below the surface of the ocean, while transmitting all the information captured on-board in real-time to the dedicated command center.

The RAS 72 multirole aircraft offers unrivalled efficiency as well as operational flexibility not only for anti-submarine warfare and maritime patrol missions, but also for search and rescue and other humanitarian operations. In addition to the MPA configuration, RAS can offer the ATR 72 with a complete range of interior configurations, from pure passenger cabin and troop transport to complex customization required for VIP guests as well as a variety of cargo options.

He has served for five years as the Use of Force training manager and primary instructor at the ATF National Academy in Glynco, GA instructing in tactics and firearms as well. Don has worked as tactical advisor to the Department of Defense since 2008 serving in both Iraq and Afghanistan and is a FLETC certified firearms instructor.

Full-Material Release is a significant milestone for the MHS program and is the official determination that the U.S. Army has rigorously tested and evaluated the M17 and M18 handguns, and associated ammunition, to determine it as safe for use when operated within its stated parameters. The official FMR notification received by SIG SAUER on June 27, 2019 states that MHS has been fully tested, meets all operational performance requirements, and is logistically supportable within the environment it is intended to operate.

To date, over 59,000 Modular Handguns have been delivered by SIG SAUER, and over 44,000,000 rounds of ammunition delivered by Winchester Ammunition to the Government for MHS; in the next 5-7 years an additional 350,000 handguns and 100,000,000 rounds of ammunition are scheduled for delivery.

Madrid, July 8, 2019.- Indra is working on the T-Shark research program, which is part of the European project Sparta to strengthen the acquisition of situational cyber-awareness capabilities that will help Europe monitor, detect and quickly respond to any threat and protect the digital economy and citizens’ rights in cyberspace.

This program will allow Europe to take advantage of the €415 billion per year and the hundreds of thousands of new jobs that will be created, according to estimates by the Commission, provided that the potential of all the new digital tools is fully realized.

Acquiring situational awareness is one of the areas of cybersecurity research where Indra is directing a great effort. In the past few years, the company has achieved a position of leadership in this field in Europe.

The company is helping with research in this area via SPARTA, a project involving 44 companies and organizations from 14 Member States led by the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), with the purpose of creating the most powerful network of cybersecurity competencies in the continent.

Funded by the EU with €16 million through the program Horizon 2020, this network is intended to combine scientific and technological excellence with expertise in social research to thoroughly redesign research, innovation and cybersecurity training from the ground up.

“There is an increasing interest and need for mission specific medical bags in the law enforcement community,” Richard Lewis, President and CEO of Proforce Equipment, Inc. and exclusive US distributor of TT, said. “The TT Medic Assault Pack MKll S bag is a versatile carry bag for basic level tactical medical team members.”

It can carry more than enough hemorrhage control, airway management, and basic first aid equipment needed by a team medic or other small group.” The tester from Ohio outfitted the bag with multiple tourniquets, trauma bandages and gauze, chest seals, tape and eye shields. The elastic loops on the interior side walls held nasopharyngeal airways and added an accessory pouch on the exterior laser-cut MOLLE.

The tester from Pennsylvania pushed the versatility of the pack by using it as a technology bag to carry several charges, backup batteries, a “litany” of cables with room remaining for a multi-tool and other gear.

The TT Medic Assault Pack MKll S measures six liters in volume, weighs 41 ounces with a dimension of 13” x 9” x 4” and is made from CORDURA® 700 den material with YKK zippers. It is available in Black, Olive, and Coyote for $149.00.
