I’m the only one here!

Here we are once more TGIF! I hope everyone had a great week. I’m burned out with this 24×7 impeachment crap! What these Democrats are trying to do is overthrow a duly elected President. I have yet to get an answer detailing what the President has done that merits impeachment. If you’re as sick of it as I am, you may be considering going to a therapist STOP! Have a shoot the shit instead. What’s a shoot the shit? It is a social interaction during which any topic can be discussed, participants don’t need to know anything about the subject in order to participate, make unsupported statements, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone the wish or change the subject altogether. So, let’s shoot the shit.

About a week ago, I reviewed what is without a doubt one of the most innovative training tools on the market the Mantis X10 Elite Shooting Performance System from Mantis, you can read it here. My review prompted a reader question, so I thought it would make a good shoot the shit topic.

One of the training scenarios Mantis includes in its menu of drills is a tactical reload with retention. The reader was unfamiliar with the concept of a tactical reload.

A tactical reload is performed during a lull in the engagement, with the anticipation of a continued engagement. Retention refers to keeping the partially spent magazine. In other words, it does not drop to the ground.

During a tactical reload, the shooter has a round chambered, and the magazine being replaced is not totally depleted so it’s  returned to the magazine carrier.

The key to a tactical reload is what the support hand does.

Step 1.  use your support had to extract a fresh magazine from its carrier. Take a look at how I’m holding the fresh magazine (i.e. between my index and middle finger. I want to keep my thumb available to extract the partially depleted magazine from the weapon’s magazine well. Also important to note is the magazine’s orientation. The bullet points up.

Step 2.  I depress the weapon’s magazine release and extract the partially depleted magazine by grasping it between the thumb and index finger. The full magazine is still being held between the index finger and middle finger. Immediately after extracting the partially spent magazine, insert the full magazine using your palm to ensure that it is properly seated in the magazine well.

Step 3. Return the partially spent magazine to your magazine carrier.  When practicing, use empty magazines, but if you’re working with live ammunition keep in mind that you still have a live round in your chamber. So, keep your finger off the trigger and the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.

Reach Way Out With Ballistic

Gainesville, GA (Oct. 2, 2019)- With hunting season here, you may be preparing for a long-distance shot. After all, you have a quality rifle and optic, and you use only the best hunting ammunition.

But are you using Ballistic to make the most out of your investment in hunting gear?

For hunting, it’s all about hitting the vital area of the animal to make a clean, ethical shot. So, of course, you need to know your bullet drop at specific distances. Some hunters prefer to write down these figures on paper and tape them to the stock of their rifle for quick reference in the field. Others will take their mobile device with Ballistic downloaded on it and reference it in the field.

Wind drift is a huge factor in making that clean shot, too. Even a slight breeze will push a bullet many inches off target at hundreds of yards.

With Ballistic, you can input wind speed and direction in a manner of ways. You can use angle inputs (e.g., 90° = crosswind left to right) for the wind direction or the O’clock format (e.g., 3:00 will automatically translate to 90°). Headwinds can be added in, too, and Ballistic will automatically adjust velocity to account for your headwind calculation.

Projectile velocity is another concern for the long-distance hunter. Many traditional hunting bullets were (and still are) made to expand at rather high velocities. Closer range shooting was the norm when these bullets were designed.

By Yard 500, for example, your bullet has slowed considerably versus its original muzzle velocity.  A traditional hunting bullet can hit the animal at 500 yards. However, bullet expansion may be little to none, resulting in a wounded animal.

Newer long-distance hunting rounds are designed to expand at a wider range of velocities. Usually, that information is found on the back of the ammunition box.Ballistic and your Bullet Profile can calculate the velocity of your projectile at various distances. Compare that to the ammunition maker’s recommendations of the velocity needed for bullet expansion.

Browning Puts the Crosshairs on Accuracy with the New X-Bolt Max Varmint/Target

A highlight of the X-Bolt Max Varmint/Target is the composite Max stock. It features an adjustable comb that allows the shooter to dial-in the fit of the rifle to optimize eye-to-scope alignment. NAUMD 2020 Conference and Expo Registration Now Open

The North American Association of Uniform Manufacturers & Distributors (NAUMD) and its Public Safety Suppliers & Retailers (PSSR) division announce registration is open for the annual networking conference and exhibits to be held April 26 – 28, 2020 at the Hyatt Regency, Reston, Virginia.

Omaha, Neb. (October 2019) – The North American Association of Uniform Manufacturers and Distributors (NAUMD) and its Public Safety Suppliers & Retailers (PSSR) division are pleased to announce registration has opened for the 2020 NAUMD Conference & Expo to be held April 26-28, 2020 at the Hyatt Regency in Reston, Virginia.

The event location is central to the United States seats of Government and Law Enforcement agencies, as well as just off the east coast artery of I-95, the main interstate highway running from Miami, Florida to the Houlton-Woodstock border crossing in New Brunswick, Canada. The location is central to government, government contractor companies, defense, high-tech, financial, hospitality and medical corporation headquarters.

The 6.5mm Creedmoor is growing in popularity as the ultimate big game round, and this entire system is a perfect match for big game hunters. The steel barrel, perfectly machined components and the anodized finish mean the rifle will shoot consistently and flawlessly while withstanding the elements and hard use.

At a mere 6.85 pounds, the rifle is easy to shoulder, but that does nothing to limit the capabilities. The rail options make this a top-shelf choice, as complete customization is easily within reach of any XLR-20 owner. Two distinct Xanthos-lite rail options are available, both using the proprietary tension lock design to secure M-LOK railing with a corrosion-resistant anodized finish. Throw in the gas block, takedown pins and the X4 brake for a serious-looking, high performance out of the box rifle.

Available in both black and Kuiu camo finishes, the XLR-20 is slick looking for hunting, tactical use, and target practice. It’s a head-turner at the range that offers world-class performance.

HENSOLDT to present a mobile training and simulation solution for train drivers

Berlin, 27 September 2019 – HENSOLDT, the leading independent sensor solutions provider, will present its Simsphere ETCS at the Railway Forum in Berlin next week. The mobile training and simulation solution will be used for training train drivers in the European Train Control System (ETCS) and can in future be downloaded as an app.

“With our app on an Android tablet, train drivers will in the future be provided with basic and advanced training in the various aspects of the European Train Control System,” explained Stephan Schäfer, Head of Simulation at HENSOLDT. “Our app enables the user to get to know the training material on the move and also provides a reference search so that problems can be solved quickly.”

First of all, the theoretical principles of the training session are explained to the user. In order  to interactively convey this, the user then virtually travels a stretch of the track – similar to a video game – and reacts as if he or she were driving a real train. In this way, the user can get to know the signal system and increase his or her knowledge. With this app, the train drivers learn by experiencing the workflows of a train journey under close-to-real conditions and are able to review the content after their training session in order to consolidate the knowledge they have acquired.

“There is no solution like ours on the market,” commented Stephan Schäfer. The current focal point of further development is on Europe and the European languages. However, thanks to the modular structure of the app, it is possible to program it in every language imaginable and to integrate relevant content in accordance with the customer’s wishes. If necessary, the system can also be configured for iOS and Windows operating systems.

When presenting the ETCS tablet to experts from the sector, HENSOLDT will be launching a new member of its Simsphere family of simulators. The name Simsphere is a combination of the words simulation and sphere, which means that it stands for the use of simulation for learning complex training material. This type of training could otherwise only be done at an extremely high cost and at a high risk to the trainees and the material used.

With Simsphere, realistic scenarios can be simulated and practised in a safe environment and in a cost-effective way. Simsphere ETCS is a logical supplement to HENSOLDT’s Simsphere Train Simulator, but can also be used separately.
