Join Silent Legion at NASGW in Orlando

Northbrook, IL (Oct. 21, 2019) –Silent Legion is attending the popular National Association Sporting Goods Wholesalers (NASGW) Expo in Orlando, Florida. The expo is a major event for manufacturers of sporting goods, firearms and firearm accessories. The NASGW Expo is scheduled for October 22-25 at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center. October 21st is reserved for booth setup and individual company meetings. LENEXA, KANSAS – October 18th, 2019 – Congratulations on an incredible feat! On October 12, 2019, Aguila Ammunition pro-shooter and CZ-USA Shotgun Product and Special Event Manager Dave Miller and his team, set a new Guinness World record for most sporting clays shot in a 12-hour time frame by a 5-person team.

The original Guinness record for most sporting clays shot in 12 hours by a 5-person team was 4,602 targets.  The team blew that record away in just 4 hours and 16 minutes.  They continued to set a new Guinness World record by shooting 14,167 targets in 12 hours!

“Thanks to Aguila Ammunition for providing a premium quality shot shell,” says Miller. “My team and I fired 20,425 of their 12-gauge 1oz 1,275fps target loads over the 12-hour period and had zero misfires.  This is a true testament to the quality of their products, now they can officially say they have a world record setting shot shell”.

The 5-Person team consisted of:

Honey It’s a They!

This week has gone by like a shoot, so here we are looking forward to the weekend and a little R&R. It’s also time for our weekly shoot the shit. But, before getting started I would like to take a moment to expresses my sincerest condolences to Congressman Elijah Cummings’ family and Congressional colleagues. I had the opportunity to meet the Congressman a number of years ago – a warm and extremely nice man.

So, what’s a shoot the shit? Simply stated, it’s a social event assembled to talk about anything that comes to mind whether you know anything about it or not. Participants are free to make unsupported statements, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone they wish or change the subject. Shoot the shits enhance cultural interaction, promote comradery; as such, they’re a great team building tool. They are also more effective, than paying $150 to a jackass who studied psychology so they could understand themselves.

So let’s get started…

During her speech at the 2019 C40 World Mayors Summit in Copenhagen our Twitter Princess says:

Forget for a moment that the entire event was theatrics by someone who wouldn’t know a carbon atom from a tootsie roll , she is concerned about having a child in the next few years, he, she or they. So, what the hell is a they?

The other thing that really bothered the heck out of me this week was the entire NBA/China extravaganza. If you’re not up to speed on that issue, here’s the 30,000 ft view.

Daryl Morey, the general manager of the Houston Rockets, fired off a Twitter post using a slogan used by the protesters in Hong Kong, just as the league was preparing to stage games in Shanghai and Shenzhen between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Nets. Morey later deleted the post. Bottom line he was expressing his support for the Hong Kong protestors. That, apparently upset the Chinese government who took the games off the air. Impacting the NBA’s wallet.

The NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, who could very well be an extraterrestrial, failed to support Daryl Morey for expressing his views; choosing instead to cave to the Chinese prioritizing the financial relationship between China and the NBA than the rights of people to freely express themselves.

I’m sure he’s a great American and NBA Commissioner but he could also be cast as Jack Jeebs the humanoid form alien from Men in Black 1 and 2. Jack Jeebs works in a pawn shop and can alter his face to look like someone else.

Long Range and Extended Range precision shooting have taken off as a sport. Sending a 6.5 Creedmore round down range to hit a small steel target at over 1200 yards is challenging. Muzzle velocity, ballistic coefficients, barrel rifling, environmental data like station pressure, ambient temperature, wind and wind direction, spindrift and coriolis effect are significant in the overall equation. But as simplistic as it may seem, the most challenging component for most shooters is wind.

Solving for wind involves two vector quantities the wind vector which consists of wind direction and speed and the firing vector, which consists of direction of fire and target range. In 2019, there is a veritable cornucopia of tools available to the shooter; in the form of wind meters, ballistic applications and computers designed to deal with all of the variables. Their use has significantly advanced the sport in many ways, but they’ve also impacted basic skills; much like what the availability of GPS has done to map and compass land navigation.

The figure on the left illustrates what we need to address to correct for wind. You can process the data using a wind meter and correct for the wind with a ballistic calculator but your meter’s impeller just fell out or your smart device died. Now what? That’s why I’m a huge proponent of basic skill preservation, and wind reading will help you. So, how can you repair those basic skill sets? Here’s one suggestion for you.

Read the wind by looking at the flag. What do you think it tells you? I called it a 4:00 o’clock at 5 mph.

Not a bad call! When you are out and about, take a wind meter with you and make wind calls using smoke stacks, flags, foliage or any one of several wind direction and speed clues like mirage, from a hot pavement. Go out and get those basic skills back. They won’t fail you when technology craps out!

While the exact features and details of each model are still being refined- Cobalt insists that they’re willing and able to make good on most any custom request from interested parties. This would indicate that these pistols are being built by hand in a custom fashion rather than being mass produced on a manufacturing line. The pistol-smith who is spearheading this endeavor is David Lake. He’s a skilled gun-builder with 19 years of study and on-the-job experience in the craft. He has built competition handguns for world champions in various shooting disciplines. (He’s also got a loyal following as a builder of precision bolt-action target rifles.)

Cobalt confirms that a few pistols have already been released and are out in the world being used by some lucky shooters. The images seen here are in fact photographs- not renderings. These handguns already exist. Cobalt makes no comment about the timeline for delivery of these new handguns, nor will they confirm the prices at this time- it’s expected that like the BAMF rifle, this new product line will be very high end and command a premium at market.

This exciting announcement is accompanied by some somber news- Cobalt Kinetics will discontinue domestic sales of its entire lineup of semi-auto sporting rifles. Production of the BAMF -and all its variants like the EDGE, TEAM, RECON, and EVOLVE-will soon cease for the United States market. Production efforts will be shifted to manufacturing pistol components. 
Vice president and marketing director at Cobalt, Skylar Stewart, commented, “We are sorry to have to take the BAMF out of production. We all worked tirelessly to create it and get it out into the world and establish and grow the market for the super-premium AR-15. But times change, market demand shifts, and we’re only looking forward. We have really been wanting to expand our offering for a long time and this shift gives us the chance to make good on that plan. Our pistol-smith, Dave Lake, has a lot of experience and has given us a healthy head start on this thing. We’re going to hit the ground running. We plan to break some rules, turn some heads and make our mark on the firearm industry again.”
Cobalt Kinetics does still have a standing inventory of new and used rifles. The new guns are exactly that- new boxed inventory, while the used guns are all trade show samples and sales and range demo rifles in various conditions ranging from bearing a few slight handling marks to heavy cosmetic damage from extreme use. This inventory is being offered for sale to any and all with the foresight to get them while you still can. The Cobalt rifle will surely become a valuable commodity among gun collectors. Cobalt maintains that each of these last 200 new guns will be sold with a full factory warranty. The biggest invention since the jet engine

THOROUGH TESTING: Nammo have completed more than 150 ramjet motor tests. The company is now transitioning to ballistic firing tests.

When the jet engine was invented in the 1940s, it revolutionized aviation. Aircraft could fly faster, higher and became much more maneuverable. In a very short space of time, a whole class of military aircraft became obsolete. With its new ramjet motors, Nammo is confident it can do something similar for both missiles and artillery.

After more than 150 successful motor tests, Nammo is pleased to confirm that its ramjet motor concepts have completed their initial developmental test phase.

The company is now preparing to commence stage 2 of its ramjet testing – with ballistic firing tests expected in the coming months. Nammo believes the new technology can fundamentally change the US and allied approach to missiles and artillery.

Most missile variants – including air to air, ground to air and naval missiles – can be used with ramjet motors. Nammo believes this – in time – will lead to significant change in the business.

“This is probably the most significant program our company has ever worked on. We believe it will change the way we fight in the air; we believe it will change the way we fight on the ground”, says Nammo CEO Morten Brandtzæg.

“The initial test phase has been a resounding success, well beyond our expectations. We are ready to start long range firing trials”, says Frank Møller with Nammo’s ramjet team.

Five times more range

Traditional rocket motors have one big shortcoming: They need to carry oxidizer as part of their propellant. Since the oxidizer uses more volume, as little as 20% of the propellant is actual fuel.

“Traditional rocket motors have significant limitations due to the need to carry oxygen. Oxygen is needed for the propellant to burn, but it also takes up a lot of space. That severely limits the amount of fuel in missiles. This of course hampers range, velocity and the ability to go high”, says Frank Møller.

Ramjets do not have this limitation, and instead can use an air intake as a compressor – at speeds around mach 3. As a consequence, all of the oxidizer can be removed, making room for around five times as much fuel.

Air to air missiles powered by ramjets will be able to reach targets as far away as 500km, many times that of current long range missiles.

“Our tests show that we could be looking at as much as five times the range. Missiles could also go much higher and faster. And burn times up to 300-400 seconds would give more energy to maneuver at extended ranges”, says Frank Møller.

“I see this as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: This has the potential to disrupt the whole missile and artillery sector, as well as NATO air defense”, says Morten Brandtzæg.

INCREASING MISSILE RANGE: Ramjet missiles could get ranges up to 500km.

Can be fired from any 155mm artillery gun

Nammo’s ramjet concept has been in development for several years, and is now set to enter operational testing. For the first long range tests, 155mm artillery projectiles will be used.

“Artillery shells, particularly those fired from modern guns, are fast enough for a ramjet to ignite, and our tests indicate that we can expect ranges of up to 150km. This is of course an enormous improvement on traditional artillery with a 20-30km range. You now have a choice: move your artillery forward and shoot deep behind enemy lines, or keep them safe, far from counter battery fire”, says Thomas Danbolt, Nammo’s VP large caliber.

“With ramjet shells, just a few pieces of artillery could cover entire countries. I sincerely believe this could be the biggest change in military technology since the invention of the jet engine”, says Frank Møller.

Earlier this year, the European Commission adopted EU-wide rules designed to pave the way for safe, efficient, and secure airspace access for large numbers of drones. As part of these rules, EU Member States can define designated no-fly zones where drones are not allowed to enter, including airports, airfields, and city centers.
Geofencing is essential to ensuring that drones comply with airspace restrictions. Geofences prevent drones from entering no-fly zones and keep them away from protected areas and critical infrastructure. Geo-caging, by contrast, does not allow drones to fly beyond a set boundary. Both measures are critical to keeping complex low-altitude airspace safe for all.
In an effort to evolve U-space capabilities for EU-wide implementation, AirMap is participating in GEOSAFE, a SESAR Joint Undertaking funded project aimed at researching, developing, and testing foundational and advanced geofencing services. Ladies Multigun and Multisport Match Winners

AUSTIN, TX — The 2019 A Girl & A Gun Fall Festival Presented by SIG SAUER took place on October 4-6, 209, at Rockcastle Shooting Center in Park Mammoth, KY. Shooters included 79 competitors for the Multigun Challenge and 52 competitors for the Multisport Challenge.

“Although this was our 4th year to host Fall Fest, this was the first year that our match management was completely in-house,” says Match Director Julianna Crowder. “We applied our unique A Girl & A Gun programming to deliver a quality match experience for the competitors. Our sponsors again offered generous prizes and giveaways, and our staff was talented, kind, and hard-working. We couldn’t be more proud.”

The Multigun Challenge featured new and exciting 3-gun, 2-gun, and 1-gun stages. Stage Designer and Range Master John Crowder created fun courses of fire in natural terrain throughout the Park Mammoth property. Assistant Range Master Mike Dell coordinated a staff of over 30 people to ensure the event was fun and safe. While several competitors were sponsored professionals, many participants were shooting their first major match.

Communications upgrade to First Responders in Chile

Barrett Communications have recently supplied a contract to the Urgent Medical Attention Service in Chile, to strengthen and secure communications between hospitals and ambulances in the Aysen region.

In December 2017, the town of Villa Santa Lucia in Patagonia, Chile, was hit by a mudslide that enveloped a third of the town. The Barrett Authorised dealer in Chile, Skytel Telecomunicaciones, quickly assisted the local Urgent Medical Attention Service (SAMU). They equipped two ambulances with Barrett High Frequency (HF) radio communications equipment as part of the team deployed to Villa Santa Lucia.

During the weeks that followed, SAMU recognised the benefits of HF radio communications in these remote locations and determined to upgrade their network to include additional HF systems.

Mr. Diego Del Gallego, Barrett Communications Operations Manager – Latin America, commented: “One of the major challenges faced by SAMU was that as soon as their ambulances left a major town, their existing communications systems could not be used. HF now enables them to maintain communications along the entire journey, which, in some cases, can be covering many hundreds of kilometers”.
The HF network provided by Barrett covers the remote and isolated region of Aysen, which extends over 100,000km2 and the SAMU system has been designed to maintain constant communications between the fleet of 15 ambulances, two regional hospitals and the major Health Ministry office in Chile’s capital city, Santiago.

The Barrett 2050 HF Transceiver in mobile vehicle configuration, together with the Barrett 2019 Auto-Tuning antenna, has been integrated into the entire ambulance fleet. The Barrett 4050 HF SDR’s base station has been installed in the hospital and in the Santiago Office. The HF base stations have been loaded with the Barrett 2020 HF email system and HF vehicle tracking software. This will enable voice, email and data communications coverage and real time tracking of the ambulance team by the office radio operators.

Mr. Del Gallego noted that “the Barrett 2050 transceiver and 4050 HF SDR include Digital Voice and ALE [Automatic Link Establishment] options which automate many of the radio functions and provides clear, near telephone quality, radio communications over the entire HF network”. He continued, detailing that “the station in Santiago is of great importance in the co-ordination of emergency relief efforts, as in the Santa Lucia Mudslide, where in future, the Santiago station will be used to monitor and provide communications when overseeing the entire emergency plan across the region.”

Team CZ-USA Sets New Guinness World Book Shooting Record!

CZ’s Team of Young Shotgun Competitors Re-Sets the Bar

Kansas City, KS (October 14, 2019) – It’s official. As in, Guinness World Book of Records Official! On October 12, 2019, CZ-USA, David Miller, CZ-USA’s shotgun manager, and pro-shooter, and the CZ-USA Team set a world record for most sporting clay targets shot in a 12-hour period by a five-person team. 

The team ended up breaking a total of 14,176 clays.

“This new world record took a great deal of practice, commitment and concentration,” said Miller. “And these young shooters never faltered! I’m very proud of these young people and their stellar work ethic. This new world record could not have been set without their dedication to excellence.”

The CZ-USA Team members for this historic attempt were:

  • Levi Henrichs, of Sibley, Iowa
  • Makayla Scott, White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia
  • Jessica Strasser, Waterford, Wisconsin
    Weston Zolck, Herman, Nebraska

Each team member was selected based on an essay they submitted to CZ-USA. Each applicant also had participated in an A.I.M. or SCTP competitive shotgun shooting qualifier event.

This was an Official Guinness World Records attempt, and the previous Guinness record for most sporting clays shot by a five-person team in 12 hours was 4,602 targets. The new record was set at the Powder Creek Shooting Park in Lenexa, Kansas, October 12, 2019.

“We had an enthusiastic crowd on hand, and they really cheered us on,” Miller added. “Thank you to everyone who came out to support us and to our sponsors. You made a huge difference!”
