Tactical Patrol Supervisor

Designed for the senior patrolman, corporal, sergeant, lieutenant, or other LE supervision who may find themselves in command of an immediate short time duration tactical situation.

This course will place them in leadership roles and teach them how to manage barricaded suspects, building searches, “suicide by cop” attempts, active shooter response, and downed officer rescue situations. The course also includes a ballistics demonstration. No ammunition or specialized equipment is needed to attend. This is a hands-on physical course requiring active participation, dress appropriately in duty or tactical attire. This course bridges the crucial gap while waiting for SWAT to respond where decisive instant action may be required to save lives.

Clean-22 Suppressor 22 LR uses an advanced polymer bullet coating to reduce lead fouling inside a suppressor by up to 60 percent. The load’s brass case gives the cartridge a tactical look when paired with the black polymer, 45-grain bullet. The load is available in 200-count cartons. New Clean-22 Maxi-Mag SHP is the industry’s only segmenting hollow-point bullet in 22 WMR. The load’s 46-grain Segmented Hollow Point splits into three equal-size pieces on impact, tripling the number of wound channels. The polymer bullet coating allows this separation at much lower velocities and longer distances than a conventional copper jacket. This load features an olive drab green bullet and is available in 50-count boxes.
Clean-22 uses an exclusive polymer bullet coating to greatly reduce copper and lead fouling in the barrel—without leaving a residue. It also cuts lead buildup in suppressors by up to 60 percent—depending on outside variables. Bullets in this product line are manufactured using bullet-shape geometry that’s been ballistically optimized for accuracy and function. And with dependable CCI priming and consistent propellant, Clean-22 provides flawless cycling through all rimfire platforms including semi-automatics.
These new products were announced at the 2020 SHOT Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, January 21-24. Shipments for the new Clean-22 products mentioned in this release are scheduled to ship starting in the Spring of 2020.
In 2019, CCI launched three Clean-22 22 LR options: Sub-Sonic, High Velocity and Pink. All loads feature a 40-grain round nose lead bullet colored in a way to signify their differences. Red represented High Velocity which boasted a muzzle velocity of 1,235 feet-per-second (fps). Blue for Sub-Sonic featuring a muzzle velocity of 1,070 fps. Both options were sold in 100-count, clear-sided, durable boxes that CCI is known for. Clean-22 Pink also delivers a muzzle velocity of 1,235 fps and is colored in a way to communicate that it helps fight breast cancer. Back From Shot Show 2020 !

I’m back from Shot Show 2020 and beautiful Las Vegas, Nevada. It was another expansive show with exhibitors from all over the world, and NSSF has done an amazing job of growing the event year over year. Shot Show 2021 will be even bigger, NSSF will be expanding the exhibit into Caesars Forum which will add another 400,000 sq ft of floor space, but don’t quote me on the 400K it could be more. So, with such a level of success what should NSSF do to improve the attendee experience? Fire the schizophrenic in charge of booth numbering PLEASE!

Maybe the solution is to create clusters, for example knives, firearms, ammunition, optics, etc.

I’ve been back for almost a week but I feel like I need a therapist. Can you imagine sitting in front of a jackass who studied psychology so he or she could understand themselves and explaining Shot Show? Not me baby! Instead, I’ll opt for a good shoot the shit.

Kobe Bryant:

I was just getting off my flight when I heard that Kobe Bryant perished in a helicopter crash near Calabasas, CA. It was the following day when I found out his daughter had also perished along with 5 other passengers and the pilot. I can’t begin to tell you how sad I felt. Kobe was an amazing athlete and a great human being. What a tragic loss for sports and humanity. The media went into its usual sensationalism throwing comments around like the pilot was under a special VFR condition. So, I’d like to give you some background to help you understand some of the issues.

VFR (Visual Flight Rules) rules require that the pilot not takeoff unless the cloud ceiling is at least 1000 feet above ground level (AGL), ground visibility must be at least 3 statute miles. In flight, the pilot must be at least 500 feet below cloud cover or 1000 feet above cloud cover. The pilot also needs to maintain 2000 feet of horizontal distance from clouds. If those conditions can not be met you don’t even take off. When you fly VFR, you plot the flight on a map called a sectional chart and you identify checkpoints along the route to help you determine if you are on track, or to the right or left of track. You also check weather along the entirety of the route. If along the way you encounter weather, you either turn around or you request a special VFR clearance. You then ask to be vectored by approach control. Think of vectoring as someone telling you to turn left or right. This is what the pilot to control conversation would sound like

VFR operation requires that the pilot maintain constant ground reference, so operating under special VFR the pilot would quite likely not have a ground reference and probably did not have a clear understanding of his position and the surrounding terrain. Take a look at the Calabasas, CA topological map below. The pink is part of the city of Calabasas but the entire surrounding area is mountainous.

When the pilot asked to be tracked, control told him that he was too low. My guess is that he started to climb saw terrain in front of him and pulled up hard which put the rotor into an aerodynamic stall; detecting the stall, he drives the nose down crashing into the side of the mountain at a 2000 ft. per minute rate of descent. My understanding is that he was following the highway up to Calabasas. What the hell was this guy doing flying that craft? Unbelievable!

Speer Introduced a New Line of Gold Dot Ammunition Optimized for Carry Guns

The result is a new product featuring an optimized G2 bullet design. The full lineup is fittingly named CarryGun and will be available in 9mm Luger 135-grain, 40 S&W 165-grain and 45 Auto +P 200-grain.

“Speer’s Gold Dot family of ammunition has been the leading choice of law enforcement professionals for almost three decades because it offers exceptional terminal performance and unfailing reliability,” said Federal Handgun Ammunition Product Manager Chris Laack. “Last year, we began offering the enhanced Gold Dot G2 ammunition—which had previously only been available to law enforcement—to the public.”

Streamlight Launches TLR-9 Rail Mounted Tactical Light

Rear Switch Model Fits Full Frame Handguns; Delivers 1,000 Lumen Output

EAGLEVILLE, PA, January 23, 2020 – Streamlight^® Inc., a leading provider of high-performance lighting and weapon light/laser sighting devices, introduced the TLR-9™ rail mounted tactical light, designed for use with full frame handguns. Featuring a slim, compact design, the new light offers ergonomic rear switches with either a low or high position to match users’ shooting styles, while providing 1,000 lumens for a variety of tactical and home defense uses.

Securely fitting to a broad range of weapons, the TLR-9 features a one-handed, snap on and tighten interface that keeps hands away from gun muzzles when attaching or detaching it. The light also includes a Safe Off feature, locking it to prevent accidental activation. A key kit is included to securely fit the light to a broad array of handguns.

Rail-Mounted Tactical Lighting Systems Fit Long Guns, Deliver up to 1,000 Lumens

EAGLEVILLE, PA, January 21, 2020 – Streamlight^® Inc., a leading provider of high-performance lighting and weapon light/laser sighting devices, introduced the low-profile TLR^TMRM 1 and TLR^TM RM 2 tactical lighting systems for long guns. Packaged as a system, each rail mounted light features independently operating push-button and remote pressure switches; the kit provides everything users need to mount to long guns. Also available in light-only models, the TLR RM 1 delivers 500 lumens and the TLR RM 2 delivers 1,000 lumens.

The TLR RM 1 and TLR RM 2 are designed to quickly and securely attach to any long gun with a MIL Standard 1913 Rail, without the need for hands in front of the muzzle. The lights offer highly accurate sight repeatability when remounting. Each light includes a key kit to securely fit the light onto a broad array of weapons.

The lights each feature the latest in power LED technology, and include a custom TIR optic that produces a concentrated beam with optimum peripheral illumination. The TLR RM 1 offers 500 lumens, 5,000 candela and a beam distance of 140 meters; the TLR RM 2 provides 1,000 lumens and 10,000 candela with a 200-meter beam distance. The lights also include a selectable strobe feature.

The TLR RM 1 includes one (1) 3 volt CR123A lithium battery, measures 3.2 inches in length and weighs 2.74 ounces. The TLR RM 2 includes two (2) 3-volt CR123A lithium batteries, is 4.55 inches long and weighs 4.55 ounces. Both models are 1.18 inches wide and 1.27 inches high. Both feature 1.5 hours of continuous run time and three hours on strobe.

The new lights are made from 6000 series machined aircraft aluminum with a Type II Mil-Spec anodized finish. The switch housing is made from impact- and chemical-resistant, high-impact engineered polymer. The lens is constructed from high temperature, shock mounted, AR coated, and impact-resistant Borofloat^® glass.

Both lights are IPX7 rated for waterproof operation to 1 meter for 30 minutes and have been extensively live fire tested.

Available in black, the TLR RM 1 and TLR RM 2 Lighting Systems have MSRPs of $255.00 and $270.00, respectively. The TLR RM 1 and TLR RM 2 Light-Only models have MSRPs of $210.00 and $225.00 respectively. Each comes with Streamlight’s Limited Lifetime Warranty.

RAFAEL wins an international tender published by the Dominican Republic Central Bank for planning and implementation of a financial sector SOC

The Intro to Long Range course is designed for students who are entering the world of long-range rifle marksmanship and competitions. Additionally, this course is designed so that the shooter will be able to troubleshoot problems with the rifle, scope, or ammunition. Focus will be on fundamentals of building a strong shooting position, understand and utilization of windage and elevation adjustments on the optic and reading atmospheric conditions such as mirage and wind. LAS VEGAS — NSSF today announced that its annual pre-SHOT Show golf outing to benefit the charity Honored American Veterans Afield (HAVA) raised $50,000. HAVA is a 501(c)(3) organization formed by companies in the shooting and outdoor industry that raises money to support disabled veterans as they work through the healing process and reintegrate into civilian life through guided hunts, target shooting events and other outdoor sports activities.

The 6th Annual NSSF/HAVA Golf Classic took place Sunday, Jan. 19, two days before the official opening of the 2020 SHOT Show^®. The renowned Bear’s Best Las Vegas once again hosted this tremendously popular SHOT Week event, one that’s designed to provide networking, entertainment and a great way to kick off the show for those arriving early to Las Vegas before Industry Day at the Range, SHOT University^TM and Supplier Showcase. The National Shooting Sports Foundation^® (NSSF^®), the trade association for the firearms industry, owns and operates the SHOT Show.

This year’s golf outing was attended by 146 professionals from the firearms industry. Both individuals and four-person teams played the top-rated Jack Nicklaus-designed course. All entries included round-trip transportation from the Sands Expo Center to Bear’s Best, golf cart rental, course fees, course balls, breakfast and lunch. Awards were presented to team and individual winners, and all players participated in a variety of contests and raffles that offered everyone a chance at some great prizes.

TORRENT LOADING SYSTEMS: RLS-1 Secondary Weapon Loading System

Shot Show is a difficult to describe global event. The innovation, ingenuity and product diversity presented is hard to capture in words, it must be seen to be believed and you have to experience it. There’s a veritable cornucopia of new product offerings, some are fluff but others fit real needs in the commercial and/or tactical space. Torrent Loading Systems designs and markets a one handed (ambidextrous) operation, rapid reloading system for magazine fed secondary weapons. How useful is it?

Imagine being tasked to perform a maritime assault and climbing a Jacobs ladder to get over a vessel’s topsides while taking opposing fire. You return fire with your sidearm but need to reload. This is a very real situation but just one of several that could prove problematic for operators, military and law enforcement. To address that need, Torrent Loading Systems designed the RLS-1 solving the requirement for a rapid and reliable one-handed pistol reload.

The RLS-1 is a belt mounted accessory who’s function is to hold up to 3 pistol magazines automatically feeding them to perform one hand pistol reloads. The operator drops a spent magazine and using the shooting hand engages the pistol’s empty magazine well with the RLS-1

Torrent Loading Systems currently supports all magazine types except for FN. Magazines to be used with the RLS-1 system are retrofitted with a proprietary base plate which ensures the RLS-1 securely engages the magazine. Loading and operating the RLS-1 is intuitive but requires an acclimation period. The RLS-1 fail-safe system allows users to manually feed/remove magazines if the RLS-1 becomes inoperable.

PROOF Research’s Greg Hamilton and Sean Murphy Take Top Tough Man Honors at 2020 Mammoth Sniper Challenge

The grueling three-day precision rifle shooting competition brings the best-of-the-best shooters together to test their shooting skills in a mentally and physically challenging environment.

Columbia Falls, Mont. (January 2020) – The Grunt Style Vortex Optics Mammoth Sniper Challenge wrapped up its three-day match at Fort Gordon, Georgia, Jan. 9 – 12, 2020. PROOF Research’s own Weapons Test Specialist, Greg Hamilton and Nightforce team member, Sean Murphy took top honors in the Tough Man Challenge. Last year the two took first place in the Regular division. This makes two years in a row of team PROOF Research/Nightforce having the highest score.

Started in 2010, the challenge puts two-person teams in a series of shoots in man-made structures and in the natural terrain. The contestants participate in either the Tough Man or the Regular styles, differing in the level of physicality of the event. The Tough Man teams stay in the environment during the three-day challenge and are required to carry everything they will need over 40+ miles.

This year, 66 teams participated in the Tough Man division, including Greg and Sean. Nineteen teams chose the Regular division, which means they were not required to stay in-field overnight. Of the teams that started on Jan. 9, 42 of the Tough Man groups completed and only nine of the Regular. Greg and Sean each shot about 120 rounds of rifle and about 50 of pistol on eleven stages. Their total points were 292 which made them the Tough Man Challenge winners.

As Tough Man team challengers, Greg and Sean carried their full ruck with them throughout the event, which meant that everything they needed to complete the event was on their backs, including guns, ammo, food, and camping equipment. As part of the challenge, not only must participants shoot the various stages, but must complete the challenge in certain time frames. Sean registered his team logged 79,000 steps for a total of 41 miles in three days.

Critical to the success of the challenge is what their competition kit included. Sean explained, “my Conviction was the primary rifle, chambered in 6mm Creedmoor with 110gr. A-Tips and Hornady brass, while Greg had a twin Conviction model rifle with a TL3 action and a pre-fit PROOF .223 carbon barrel, sending 75gr ELD-Ms as the secondary rifle. Both rifles had PROOF carbon fiber composite barrels to save weight. Scopes were Nightforce ATACR 7-35×56 F1s, along with SilencerCo suppressors and MDT CkyePod bipods. Fully kitted, the rifles weighed about 13 pounds, about half of what normal match guns weigh these days.”

PROOF Research carbon fiber barrels are up to 50 percent lighter than traditional steel barrels of similar contour, which Greg and Sean appreciated as they had to move quickly from one shooting stage to another and carry three-days’ worth of gear. Additionally, the carbon fiber wrap makes the barrel extremely resistant to dirt, dings, weather, and all of the gritty environmental conditions the team encountered on the 56,000-acre training grounds at Fort Gordon.

“There’s no doubt, the carbon fiber composite barrels and stocks saved tremendous weight, but also delivered superior accuracy enabling us to move faster and pack smarter with our kit,” Sean concluded.

INDRA INAUGURATES THE BIGGEST RADAR FACTORY IN SPAIN AND ONE OF THE BIGGEST IN EUROPE

Madrid, January 23, 2020. Indra, one of the leading global technology and consulting companies, has strengthened its position in the radar manufacturing field with the opening of a one-of-a-kind factory in Spain where equipment for both civil and military use will be produced.

“The new Indra radar production facility in San Fernando de Henares represents a clear commitment of the company for the design and production of such systems, in which Indra is one of the global leaders, mostly thanks to the 3D technology for civil as well as military use,” says Jorge Estévez, director of Transportation and Defence Operation at Indra. It comes as no surprise that Indra has been awarded all of the 3D radar tenders by NATO since 2005, and has supplied 40 units in different configurations world-wide: long-range, fixed or non-fixed, medium-range, high-mobility tactical configuration and naval radars. The order book is extensive. Indra radars have the most advanced digital signal processing technologies (Digital Beam Forming) and add improvements to enhance their operational flexibility and reliability throughout their life cycle.

Indra has concentrated the manufacturing of all its radar systems on a single 7000-square -meter factory. Nearly 200 professionals, many of them with a level of experience that is hard to find in Europe, are working together to cover the entire radar manufacturing cycle, from the production of the electronic cards to the actual assembly. Most of these next-generation radars will be exported to countries all over the world.

Jorge Estévez emphasizes the competitiveness and innovation that characterizes the factory: “The capacity of this factory will allow us to absorb the sales growth that we anticipate for the coming years in the domestic and international markets. This factory integrates from the manufacturing processes of highly complex electronic boards to the final tests, and has allowed us to make substantial improvements in the production processes, embodying lean manufacturing and automation elements.”

Military technology that transfers to the civil arena

No factory in Spain – and very few in Europe – can match the diversity of radars with proprietary technology that the San Fernando factory can boast of. The catalogue includes fixed, tactical and mobile radars and also airborne and naval radars, radars for drone detection and components for space exploration. Moreover, innovation projects on Lanza radars are being developed in this new factory, together with Torrejón.

The company started manufacturing radars in the 80’s. Today, Indra is regarded as a world-class supplier, thanks to its proprietary production of cutting-edge radars. The growth outlook in this sector is very positive.

The company is present in five continents thanks to the technological superiority of radars such as the MSSR for air traffic control and the new developments, such as those used in frigates. Radars and radio aids are exported to more than 60 countries: from the United Kingdom to Australia, through Sweden, Denmark, Uruguay, Ecuador, India, Thailand, Azerbaijan and Oman, among others.

Clients in this market are both civil as well as military, which has enabled technology transfer from the former to the latter. Such is the case of the emblematic Lanza 3D radar which, although originally created for military use, is now very popular in the civil field and will soon make a significant technological leap with the new generation of LTR-25 tactical radar for NATO and other European customers. In the civil sector, the main mission of most radar systems is to optimally manage air traffic and to ensure the safety of passengers travelling by air.

One of the most sophisticated Indra radars is designed for spatial surveillance and has its origin in military technology. Another civil application of equipment produced in San Fernando is closely linked to the sustainability and the protection of the environment: the detection of oil spills in hydrocarbon extraction and handling environments using low-range radars.

Resolute commitment to innovation and sustainable production

According to the latest EU Industrial R&D Investment Scoreboard ranking, which has just been published by the European Commission, Indra is one of the Spanish companies and one of the companies of its sector in Europe that invests the most in research and development, with €210 million and a 6.8% of sales invested in 2018 alone. In the last six years, Indra has invested over €1.1 billion in R&D.

Besides allocating important sums to R&D, Indra has a global innovation model that aims for excellence and continuous improvement in this field. This model has recently renewed the certifications for its R&D management to the Spanish quality standards: “UNE 166002: RDI Management”, and European standards: “CEN/TS 16555-1: Innovation Management System”, via Aenor.

In 2019, the Spanish Government appointed Indra as the national industrial coordinator of the European FCAS (Future Combat Air System) Defence program, the largest joint European defence.

James is the founder and CEO of Tactical Response, the Tennessee-based firearms training company. He’s taken on many roles in the firearm/tactical community, both in the training realm and in the hard-knocks real world.
On the law enforcement side, James has been everything from a Patrolman to a member of Drug Task Forces to Tactical Team Leader to Chief of Police. He worked as a contractor on two Protective Security Details in Baghdad, Iraq during the height of that conflict.
James has been a firearms trainer since 1994 and has taught literally thousands of students, some of whom have put his teaching to the test in real-world confrontations. He’s a certified expert witness on firearms, tactical training and use of force. Several Galco employees have been fortunate enough to attend classes at Tactical Response.
He’s also a professional author, published in magazines such as SWAT, Southern Lawman, Concealed Carry, American Handgunner Special Editions and STUFF. He wrote the foreword for Andy Stanford’s seminal book Surgical Speed Shooting and appeared on its cover. He’s written a book on High Risk Civilian Contracting and has also produced a series of instructional DVDs.
