The SafeAir Aromatic Isocyanate Detection Badge detects both TDI and MDI at parts per billion (ppb) levels. A worker wears this easy-to-use badge in the breathing zone (e.g. clipped to a shirt collar) in order to monitor for aromatic isocyanates (i.e. TDI and MDI). The detection badge can also be used to monitor for TDI or MDI leaks by hanging the badge near a suspect area. A change in color on the badge, in the shape of an exclamation mark, alerts the user to exposure to an aromatic isocyanate. Morphix Technologies also offers a SafeAir TDI color comparator, which can be used to read exposure dose levels by matching the color on the isocyanate monitoring badge to the color in the TDI comparator. The SafeAir badge and comparator system provides a cost-effective means of isocyanate detection. They help ensure the workers are aware of their exposure to aromatic isocyanates. XS Sight Systems at Shot Show 2020

Some of the coolest people you’ll ever want to meet were the XS Sights team at Shot Show 2020. XS Sights has been producing some of the most combat effective night sights on the market. The company has also been licensed to manufacture and sell tritium inserts, a service they make available to other manufacturers. The company’s focus since its inception has been on producing quality sights that provide rapid target acquisition for law enforcement.

For 2020, this Fort Worth, TX, company has announced a number of very exciting offerings.

F8 Night Sights: these are the newest high-visibility personal defense sights for fast target acquisition in all light conditions. The sight features a figure-eight, inline sight picture for an easy two-point alignment, the F8 sights are designed to instantly increase front sight focus thanks to the large (0.160” wide) high-contrast front sight with a photoluminescent orange colored ring surrounding the tritium. This proprietary, durable XS Orange paint is formulated with a focus on yellow, one of the most visible colors in low light, making it easier to see in rapidly changing light conditions.

The wide notch rear sight is designed to increase the visibility of the front sight by allowing more light around the sides of the front sight. This expanded sight gap helps shooters find the front sight faster when drawing from a holster and shooting on the move. The tritium vial on the rear sight enables quick and easy alignment with the front sight in various light conditions while the chamfered notch eliminates the bottom edges of the sight, drawing focus to the top edges of the sight for proper alignment.

DXT2 Big Dot Night Sights: the new DXT2™ Big Dot^®Night Sights provide exceptional front sight visibility in all lighting conditions, and they’re available in two colors – Optic Yellow™ and Optic Orange™. The DXT2 Big Dot sights drive eye focus to the front sight (and thus to the downrange threat) using a large, high-contrast front and a V-notch rear sight for an unobstructed view of the front sight. The Big Dot front sights use a patent-pending colored glow dot that absorbs light, causing the sight to glow before it is dark enough to see the tritium center. The glow dot also stores energy enabling it to glow brightly for many hours. The V-notch rear sight features a vertical white stripe with a tritium vial at the center, creating a dot-the- “i” sight picture for fast and accurate target acquisition in high-stress situations.

3. 3-Dot RAM Night Sights: the RAM™ Night Sights are the brightest sight options for fast and accurate shooting in bright and low light conditions; making them ideal for law enforcement application.

The RAM (radioactive material) night sights have a traditional 3-dot tritium, notch and post sight picture. The rear sight is blacked out to increase contrast against the front sight which is available in bright orange or green. The front sight features XS’s proprietary Ember™ Glow Dot technology which absorbs ambient light and glows in low light. The front tritium lamp in the RAM sight charges the Ember Glow Dot, making the front sight glow brighter than the rear, keeping eye focus down range.

RAM Night Sights were designed to overcome three common issues with 3-dot tritium sights:

1. Confusing the front dot with one of the rear sight dots when under stress

2. The 2-dot tritium rear sight glowing brighter than the front sight drawing the eyes there instead of towards the downrange threat.

3. Tight sight pictures – RAM Night Sights use a notch that is 15% wider than the front sight, allowing more visible light around the front sight. This makes it easier to see the front sight in changing light conditions and when shooting on the move, aiding in sight alignment and increasing accuracy.

4. XTI2 DXS Ember Standard Dot Offset Iron Sights: XS XTI2 sights are a close-quarters, secondary sighting solution for a fast sight transition from a magnified primary optic. XTI2 sights reduce target engagement time and eliminate magnification adjustment. Our second generation XTI’s feature taller bases for easy sight alignment, without having to break a standard cheek weld. Additionally, the base angle has been increased to accommodate wider lens optics. The front sight measures 0.140″ wide and now feature an Orange Ember Glow Dot. The straight-line express sight picture makes XTI2’s ideal for rapid sight acquisition and close target shooting.

The XTI2 DXS Offset Iron Sights are available for preorder at Brownells and other retailers. I had the opportunity to shoulder a weapon and experience these offset irons; they are easy to transition to and very quick.

In Lucknow, HENSOLDT will be presenting a very precise picture of the airspace, covered by its true passive radar system TwInvis. The system uses several transmission sources from various locations. Alien Gear Launches the Rapid Force Duty Holster at SHOT SHOW 2020

At this year’s Shot Show, Alien Gear introduced The Rapid Force Duty Holster, and in true Alien fashion they’ve thought of just about everything.

For starters, the new holster features what I’ll describe as an uncomplicated but very effective retention system. The Rapid Force Duty Holster is available in a Level II and Level III configuration. Alien Gear describes their patented retention system as the GMR or Gross Motor Response retention system. The GMR system also supports pistol mounted red dot sights.

Level II retention comes from a locking backstrap, actuated by a push-button thumb release. Level III retention is added in the form of an ejection port locking wedge.

The holster is belt attached and supports a duty belt of up to three inches wide. Three belt mounts are available: Low, Standard, or High.

The Rapid Force Duty holster is available for your pistol with or without a rail mounted light. Unique to the holster is the fact that the pistol can be holster even if you remove the light.

The holster is injection molded using a high-strength polymer blend, and available in a smooth or basket weave finish.

The price is also something you’ll love. Depending on how you configure it, you’re looking at $115 – $144, compare that to competing duty holsters which run upwards of $240.

Supported Platforms Include: Glock 17, Glock 19, Glock 22, Glock 23, SIG SAUR P320 (9mm and 40 S&W), S&W M&P 9 (9mm), S&W M&P 40, SIG SAUER P226 (9mm & 40 S&W)

Federal Expands Lineup of 6.5 Creedmoor Loads and Adds Options in 6.5 PRC

ANOKA, Minnesota – February 3, 2020 – Federal has expanded its available loads in 6.5 to cover a range of shooting disciplines. The newest additions for 2020 include the 6.5 Creedmoor Swift Scirocco II, Terminal Ascent and the MeatEater Series Trophy Copper. Terminal Ascent is also available in 6.5 PRC. In addition, Federal has expanded its trusted Federal Premium Gold Medal rifle ammunition line with a new 6.5 PRC load.

Born as a competition round, the 6.5 Creedmoor has quickly become one of the most popular hunting cartridges on the market. No surprise, either, since its flat trajectory, high ballistic coefficients and blistering velocities give it a deadly combination of long-range accuracy and lethal hunting firepower—all from a short-action platform with relatively mild recoil.

“Fans of the 6.5 Creedmoor have several hard-hitting new options at their disposal, thanks to a flurry of new introductions, plus a new 6.5 PRC loading,” said Federal Centerfire Rifle Ammunition Product Director Mike Holm. “In 2020, we have raised the bar in performance and versatility with high-powered loads perfect for a variety of hunting or competition shooting with new Berger, MeatEater, Swift, and Terminal Ascent options. 6.5 PRC Gold Medal Berger – 140-grain, 2,925 FPS: The fast-flat-shooting cartridge has already proven itself in Precision Rifle Series competition and has earned the respect of elite long-range shooters. The new round is loaded with the extremely accurate Berger Hybrid bullet, and paired with Gold Medal match primers, Federal brass and specially formulated propellant.

6.5 PRC and 6.5 Creedmoor Terminal Ascent – 130-grain, 3,000 and 2,800 FPS: Bonded construction penetrates deep on close targets, while the patented Slipstream polymer tip initiates expansion at velocities 200 fps lower than comparable designs. The bullet’s long, sleek profile offers an extremely high ballistic coefficient, and its AccuChannel groove technology improves accuracy and minimizes drag. Now available in a full selection of long-range hunting cartridges.

6.5 Creedmoor Swift Scirocco II – 130-grain, 2,800 FPS: The bullet’s streamlined design and high ballistic coefficient produce flat trajectories, while retaining more velocity and energy downrange. Aided by its proprietary polymer tip, the Scirocco II expands at minimal velocities yet offers high weight retention at close range thanks to its bonded copper jacket.

NSSF, Project ChildSafe Help Promote Firearms Safety in Denver

Free gun locks, safety resources donated to mayor’s gun safety initiative

NEWTOWN, Conn. — Project ChildSafe^®, the firearms safety program of the National Shooting Sports Foundation^® (NSSF^®), has provided 1,000 firearm safety kits and educational materials to assist Denver Mayor Michael Hancock’s new firearms safety initiative. The effort, which launched Feb. 1, focuses on promoting firearms safety throughout the Denver area.

Central to the effort are the free Project ChildSafe firearm safety kits, which include a gun lock, provided by NSSF as part of its national Project ChildSafe program. Locks and educational materials will be available from the Denver Police Department and other locations throughout the city.

“We’re thrilled to support this effort because safely and securely storing firearms when not in use works – it’s a real solution to help keep communities safer,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF’s CEO and President. “In recent years, fatal firearms accidents have dropped to historic lows. That’s a trend we’d like to see continue; that starts with a community-shared responsibility and emphasis on education and safety training, helping to prevent accidents, theft and suicide.”

In addition to the gun locks, Project ChildSafe also provides a library of resources on a number of gun safety topics, including secure storage options, safe storage and suicide prevention and how to have “the talk” about firearms safety with children. The program’s website has many other gun safety resources available for various audiences with different needs and uses.

Last year, NSSF’s Project ChildSafe marked its 20th anniversary of promoting firearms safety nationwide. For more than two decades, NSSF has partnered with law enforcement and other organizations in all 50 states to distribute more than 38 million free firearm safety kits, including gun locks.

BLACKWTER AT SHOT SHOW 2020

Stopped by the Blackwater booth while at Shot Show 2020 and ran into some interesting offerings as well as its founder Erik Prince. It’s hard to predict what history will say about Erik Prince but I’ve always thought of him as an extremely intelligent man with the ability to see through the haze of geopolitics.

Blackwater’s founder and CEO is a former Navy Seal Officer who felt that the asymmetric battlefield is an environment best served by professional security firms; a position that I’ve agreed with and supported for a number of years. I will go as far as to say that our ability to lift countries out of poverty is best achieved by a small footprint of professional security personnel. Infrastructure, enterprise and government security is best accomplished in the underdeveloped nations by professional contractors rather than a presence of 30,000+ military personnel. Economics supports that approach as well as the geopolitical climate, Erik Prince recognized the opportunity, so what happened? Blackwater was done in by politicians and the DOD bureaucracy.

I’m not sure what will happen to Prince’s business model but I firmly believe that properly managed, it’s better by orders of magnitude than deploying the 82nd.

Getting back to Shot Show, I stopped at the Blackwater booth to follow-up on the much touted company’s ammunition announcements, but for reasons that would have required my being sanction in the parking lot, information was not forthcoming.

HOWEVER!

I did have the opportunity to look at some of the company’s firearm offerings and their unique and patented features.

The starboard side view reveals the ejection port and a large button magazine release, which can be easily operated with the strong hand’s index finger.

You’ll also notice the conspicuous absence of a trigger and trigger guard in their customary location, instead the trigger is fully shrouded by the grip and operated by the thumb. I thought it was a cigar lighter at first, but after a few trigger presses it felt very natural and allowing for a full four finger hold on the grip.

The rifle is also equipped with an ambidextrous safety implemented with a slide switch and not the usual selector lever.

The port side view exposes the customary paddle style slide lock lever, charging handle and M-LOK forend with a full length Picatinny rail. Blackwater named its rifle Iron Horse. It’s shipping now at an M.S.R.P. $1995.

The company is also offering a magazine fed 18 inch pump shotgun in an M4 style chassis. the Sentry 12. The shotgun features full ambidextrous controls and an AR style safety selector. Transitioning from an M4 to the Sentry 12 is a natural process. The Blackwater Sentry 12 is shipping now at an M.S.R.P. 0f $899.

The first new option is a .224 90-grain option in the Fusion line intended for hunters and shooters looking to reload the 224 Valkyrie cartridge. The second new bullet offering is a full line of new Terminal Ascent bullets which is a match-style, all-range, bonded hunting bullet.

CCI Expands on Its Clean-22 Product Line

Clean-22 Suppressor 22 LR uses an advanced polymer bullet coating to reduce lead fouling inside a suppressor by up to 60 percent. The exclusive feature allows much easier suppressor cleaning and maintenance. These loads boast excellent accuracy while cycling reliably through any suppressed firearm. The load’s brass case gives the cartridge a tactical look when paired with the black polymer, 45-grain bullet. The load is available in 200-count cartons. New Clean-22 Maxi-Mag SHP is the industry’s only segmenting hollow-point bullet in 22 WMR. The polymer bullet coating allows this separation at much lower velocities and longer distances than a conventional copper jacket. This load features an olive drab green bullet and is available in 50-count boxes.
Clean-22 uses an exclusive polymer bullet coating to greatly reduce copper and lead fouling in the barrel—without leaving a residue. It also cuts lead buildup in suppressors by up to 60 percent—depending on outside variables. Bullets in this product line are manufactured using bullet-shape geometry that’s been ballistically optimized for accuracy and function. And with dependable CCI priming and consistent propellant, Clean-22 provides flawless cycling through all rimfire platforms including semi-automatics.
These new products were announced at the 2020 SHOT Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, January 21-24. Shipments for the new Clean-22 products mentioned in this release are scheduled to ship starting in the Spring of 2020.
In 2019, CCI launched three Clean-22 22 LR options: Sub-Sonic, High Velocity and Pink. All loads feature a 40-grain round nose lead bullet colored in a way to signify their differences. Red represented High Velocity which boasted a muzzle velocity of 1,235 feet-per-second (fps). Blue for Sub-Sonic featuring a muzzle velocity of 1,070 fps. Both options were sold in 100-count, clear-sided, durable boxes that CCI is known for. Clean-22 Pink also delivers a muzzle velocity of 1,235 fps and is colored in a way to communicate that it helps fight breast cancer. Back From Shot Show 2020 !

I’m back from Shot Show 2020 and beautiful Las Vegas, Nevada. It was another expansive show with exhibitors from all over the world, and NSSF has done an amazing job of growing the event year over year. Shot Show 2021 will be even bigger, NSSF will be expanding the exhibit into Caesars Forum which will add another 400,000 sq ft of floor space, but don’t quote me on the 400K it could be more. So, with such a level of success what should NSSF do to improve the attendee experience? Fire the schizophrenic in charge of booth numbering PLEASE!

Maybe the solution is to create clusters, for example knives, firearms, ammunition, optics, etc.

I’ve been back for almost a week but I feel like I need a therapist. Can you imagine sitting in front of a jackass who studied psychology so he or she could understand themselves and explaining Shot Show? Not me baby! Instead, I’ll opt for a good shoot the shit.

Kobe Bryant:

I was just getting off my flight when I heard that Kobe Bryant perished in a helicopter crash near Calabasas, CA. It was the following day when I found out his daughter had also perished along with 5 other passengers and the pilot. I can’t begin to tell you how sad I felt. Kobe was an amazing athlete and a great human being. What a tragic loss for sports and humanity. The media went into its usual sensationalism throwing comments around like the pilot was under a special VFR condition. So, I’d like to give you some background to help you understand some of the issues.

VFR (Visual Flight Rules) rules require that the pilot not takeoff unless the cloud ceiling is at least 1000 feet above ground level (AGL), ground visibility must be at least 3 statute miles. In flight, the pilot must be at least 500 feet below cloud cover or 1000 feet above cloud cover. The pilot also needs to maintain 2000 feet of horizontal distance from clouds. If those conditions can not be met you don’t even take off. When you fly VFR, you plot the flight on a map called a sectional chart and you identify checkpoints along the route to help you determine if you are on track, or to the right or left of track. You also check weather along the entirety of the route. If along the way you encounter weather, you either turn around or you request a special VFR clearance. You then ask to be vectored by approach control. Think of vectoring as someone telling you to turn left or right. This is what the pilot to control conversation would sound like

VFR operation requires that the pilot maintain constant ground reference, so operating under special VFR the pilot would quite likely not have a ground reference and probably did not have a clear understanding of his position and the surrounding terrain. Take a look at the Calabasas, CA topological map below. The pink is part of the city of Calabasas but the entire surrounding area is mountainous.

When the pilot asked to be tracked, control told him that he was too low. My guess is that he started to climb saw terrain in front of him and pulled up hard which put the rotor into an aerodynamic stall; detecting the stall, he drives the nose down crashing into the side of the mountain at a 2000 ft. per minute rate of descent. My understanding is that he was following the highway up to Calabasas. What the hell was this guy doing flying that craft? Unbelievable!

Speer Introduced a New Line of Gold Dot Ammunition Optimized for Carry Guns

The result is a new product featuring an optimized G2 bullet design. Rail-Mounted Tactical Lighting Systems Fit Long Guns, Deliver up to 1,000 Lumens

EAGLEVILLE, PA, January 21, 2020 – Streamlight^® Inc., a leading provider of high-performance lighting and weapon light/laser sighting devices, introduced the low-profile TLR^TMRM 1 and TLR^TM RM 2 tactical lighting systems for long guns. Packaged as a system, each rail mounted light features independently operating push-button and remote pressure switches; the kit provides everything users need to mount to long guns. Also available in light-only models, the TLR RM 1 delivers 500 lumens and the TLR RM 2 delivers 1,000 lumens.

The switch housing is made from impact- and chemical-resistant, high-impact engineered polymer. Both lights are IPX7 rated for waterproof operation to 1 meter for 30 minutes and have been extensively live fire tested.

On the high setting, the new light also delivers 2,000 candela over a 90-meter beam distance. On low, the MacroStream USB offers 50 lumens, 220 candela, and a beam distance of 30 meters. The run time on low is 8 hours.

The new light offers extremely durable, abrasion-resistant construction, featuring a machined aluminum case with a Type II Military Spec anodized finish. The MacroStream USB is IPX4-rated for water resistance operation, and is impact resistance-tested to one meter.

RAFAEL CYBER DEFENSE FOR THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC -January 2020

RAFAEL wins an international tender published by the Dominican Republic Central Bank for planning and implementation of a financial sector SOC

TEL AVIV, January 29, 2020 – RAFAEL Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. announces it has been selected to plan and implement a financial sector SOC for the Dominican Republic’s Central Bank.

As part of the contract, RAFAEL will provide the technology, methodology and implementation of a sectorial SOC, as required by the recently published Dominican Republic Cyber Law for the financial sector.

The financial SOC will provide a cyber situational posture of the financial sector including all financial and supporting entities in the country. The SOC will collect and distribute cyber threat intelligence, provide Incident Response and Forensic capabilities for the sector. During the project, an operational methodology will be provided to address all the financial sector needs, including cyber information sharing and fraud.

The financial SOC in the Dominican Republic will be the first of its kind in central America and unique in providing a holistic posture of the cyber health of the entire financial sector and supporting entities in the country.

RAFAEL’s track record in the cyber realm includes, several national level projects, including delivery of a cyber defense solution for the Bank of Israel Credit Rating Registrar, National CERT for the Israeli National Cyber Security directorate, a unique OT/IT SOC for the Israeli railway and a CERT integrated with several SOC’s for the Argentinean MOD as an infrastructure for hosting the G20 summit in 2018.

At this years’s Shot Show Springfield Armory introduced a new 5.56 pistol, the Saint Edge EVAC. The EVAC can be taken down to a very compact package. Springfield Armory’s patent-pending takedown system was easy and quick to operate. Along with the folding brace, the EVAC can be easily stowed in a backpack or small bag. You need to have the EVAC on your must have list, that’s for sure.

The Intro to Long Range course is designed for students who are entering the world of long-range rifle marksmanship and competitions. This course will build solid shooting fundamentals and provide data the student will be able to take anywhere and successfully engage targets at distance, whether shooting in PRS/NRL style competitions or banging steel with friends. Additionally, this course is designed so that the shooter will be able to troubleshoot problems with the rifle, scope, or ammunition. Focus will be on fundamentals of building a strong shooting position, understand and utilization of windage and elevation adjustments on the optic and reading atmospheric conditions such as mirage and wind. This is a two-day course that will be offered on June 27 – 29 and Aug. 15 – 16, 2020. Cost is $575.
