“What the heck?! I know I hit that bird, no question!” is a familiar complaint in the hunt field and on the clay course. Often, a shooter assumes she didn’t have the correct sight picture, and consequently, did something wrong. In reality, the sight picture was absolutely correct, but the shot load was incorrect for the quarry or clay presentation. This month, we geek out a bit on what it takes to drop our target, clay or feathered and how to stack the deck in our favor.
Dove Hunting Tips: Getting after the Grey Ghosts
If you’re like me, you wish away the summer, even cursing it for interrupting your hunt season and making you hang up your bird vest. The mid-Atlantic can be a bit brutal, though, especially in September when the season comes back. It also sees its fair share of hurricanes and flat-out ugly thunderstorms. The dove migration is highly susceptible to these strong storms, and you’ll often hear chatter about the birds getting “blown out.”
It doesn’t take but a week or two for the birds to become educated and even more evasive, giving them that oh-so-appropriate name, “Grey Ghosts.” So, with such fickle and punishing weather and temperamental targets, why do so few utilize the summer months to prepare?

Connor Daniel of Team Winchester and White Flyer Secures Two Major Championship Titles
CLAYTON, MO (August 5, 2025) — Connor Daniel has taken the shooting sports by storm, recently winning two of the most significant events in the world. A member of Team Winchester and Team White Flyer, Daniel secured the Junior Championship titles at both the 2025 World English Sporting Clays Championship and the World FITASC Sporting Clays Championship.
“On behalf of Winchester Ammunition and White Flyer, we congratulate Connor for taking on the world’s toughest competitors and securing two significant sporting clay championships,” said Brett Flaugher, President of Winchester Ammunition. “This is a tremendous achievement as a sporting clays athlete and Connor continue to be positive ambassador for the shooting sports at the highest level.”
July has been a month of success for Connor as he added more championship titles to his impressive list of accomplishments. Starting on July 12, Connor competed in the World English Sporting Clays Competition at E.J. Churchill Shooting Ground in High Wycombe, England where he earned his World Junior Champion title.
Following the World English, Connor travelled to Kornos Village in Cyprus to compete in the 47th World FITASC Sporting Clays Championship. After maintaining consistent technique and incredible mental focus through 200 targets, Connor secured the World Junior Champion title just five days after becoming the World Junior Champion in English Sporting Clays.
Connor shoots Winchester AA® Lite-Handicap 1-oz #8 shotshells.

Dayton, OH (August 4, 2025) — The roles of firearms are well-defined in modern shooting sports. Often, firearms come with a specific and set purpose, with little room for flexibility. Specific shotguns are designed and built around a task at hand, and while they do jump categories, they rarely succeed with exceptionalism. Charles Daly aims to change that notion and has developed the Triple Threat, a three-barreled shotgun capable of handling a broad and diverse range of tasks with grace and awe.
Each Triple Threat is a three-barreled shotgun capable of delivering the right type of shot at the right kind of target. Manufactured for use with 3-inch or smaller shells, the Triple Threat comes in 12-gauge, 20-gauge, 28-gauge, or 410. The Triple Threat is a three-barreled 12-gauge shotgun with removable Remington threaded chokes. Each Triple Threat is delivered with C, IC, M, IM, and F chokes for various practical applications and uses.
The 18.5-inch steel barrel is supported by a break-action design for ease of use and fast reloading. Manual safety measures protect the firearm from accidental discharge when not in use or in the field. Despite the three individual barrels, the Triple Threat measures 35.5 inches overall and weighs only 8.2 lbs.
The finish of the Triple Threat might as well be called the ‘fourth threat’ as the checkered walnut completes the firearm with a pristine look and feel—both the stock and forend feature matching walnut. The forend is a two-piece design suitable for all types of handling and all variations of ammunition types. Alternatively, a black synthetic stock outfitted with a picatinny rail is available for tactical and defensive applications.

U.S. ARMY AWARDS $4.9 MILLION CONTRACT FOR MORE FN® M240L MEDIUM MACHINE GUNS
(McLean, VA — July 1, 2025) FN America, LLC is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $4.9 million contract to supply the U.S. Army with additional FN® M240L medium machine guns. The M240L was originally adopted by the U.S. Army in 2010, after a joint development effort with FN to create a lighter, yet durable, medium machine gun.
The M240L has been the cutting-edge for lightweight medium machine guns with an overall weight reduction of five pounds from its predecessor, the FN® M240B, without any impact to performance or longevity. The 18 percent weight reduction was achieved by incorporating titanium into the design, including the receiver, and introducing new manufacturing methods to adjust for the material properties.
“The M240L continues the collaborative effort between FN, the U.S. Army and the individual soldier to provide the most effective weapon systems for the warfighter,” said Mark Cherpes, President and CEO for FN America, LLC. “The development saw the introduction of new materials along with new manufacturing techniques that have paved the way for the future generation of military equipment. We are extremely proud of this product and look forward to working with the U.S. Army to deliver against this contract.”
The M240 general purpose machine gun (7.62x51mm NATO), derived from the FN® MAG 58, was adopted by the U.S. military in the late 1970s, and has been in continual service since being introduced. FN has created multiple variants of the M240, including the M240 coaxial, the M240B, M240L, M240D and M240H models.
Throughout its history, FN has been one of the largest suppliers of small arms to the U.S. military and continues to develop innovative, future technology. In addition to the M240 and its variants, the company currently holds contracts for the FN® M249 lightweight machine gun; the FN® MK 46, MK 48, MK 17 and MK 20 SSR for USSOCOM and various other contracts.

ASA, NRA, SAF, and FPC File Lawsuit Challenging Constitutionality of the NFA!
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, a coalition of four leading gun rights organizations comprised of the American Suppressor Association (ASA), Firearms Policy Coalition, National Rifle Association (NRA), and Second Amendment Foundation (SAF), announced the filing of Brown v. ATF a joint federal lawsuit in the Eastern District of Missouri challenging the constitutionality of the National Firearms Act (NFA). In 1937, the Supreme Court ruled that the NFA was primarily a revenue-generating measure and the registration requirements of the statute served to verify who had paid the required tax. With the tax rate of $0 as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill, the constitutionality of requiring suppressor owners to register with the federal government is no longer valid. This litigation joins Anderson v. Raoul, and Padua v. Platkin, the ASA Foundation and Silencer Shop—backed lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of the ban on suppressors in Illinois and New Jersey, at the forefront of pro-suppressor litigation.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, invites everyone to celebrate the shooting sports during the 2025 National Shooting Sports Month® this August. Whether you’re an experienced marksman, a first-time gun owner or someone simply curious about the shooting sports, there’s no better time to get involved, improve your skills and introduce someone new to the range.
Now in its eighth year, National Shooting Sports Month encourages all Americans to experience the excitement of target shooting while promoting safe and responsible firearm use. Ranges, retailers, manufacturers and industry partners across the country are joining forces to host special events, training sessions and promotions throughout the month.
“National Shooting Sports Month is a time to recognize and celebrate the values that define the shooting sports—safety, responsibility, skill development and community,” said Joe Bartozzi, President and CEO of NSSF. “Whether you’re welcoming a newcomer to the range or honing your own abilities, this month serves as a nationwide call to participate, mentor and support one of America’s longstanding recreational traditions.”

Head to your favorite range, retailer or club and ask how you can participate this month. Many offer special events, training sessions, competitions or discounts in August. Your support helps keep these community resources thriving. Find an event near you. First-time shooters should know that ranges welcome newcomers and will provide supervised, supportive, safe introductions to recreational shooting.
