INDRA, THE FIRST COMPANY IN THE AIR TRAFFIC AND DEFENCE SECTOR TO ACCREDIT THE MAXIMUM QUALITY OF ITS SYSTEMS ACCORDING TO THE NEW CMMI LEVEL 5 MODEL

image

· Indra is the first company in the ATM and Defence sector to be accredited with version 2 of the CMMI level 5 model

· It is also the company that covers the largest volume of activity with this certification: all the activity carried out at its Centre of Excellence in Security in León and the development of key ATM solutions such as iTEC and Indra Air Automation are covered by the certificate

· Indra accredits its best practices aimed at increasing efficiency and mature processes which drive productivity and profitability in the development of solutions

Madrid, January 7, 2021.- Indra, one of the main global technology and consultancy companies, has become the first company in the Defence and Air Traffic sectors to be accredited with the maximum quality of its systems according to the new version 2 of the CMMI 5 model.

This latest model allows double-digit improvements in key aspects such as productivity, the speed of software development and product quality, as well as reducing duplication and failures.

Thus, Indra renews the CMMI5 accreditation it already had for the development of Air Traffic Systems and solutions provided by the Centre of Excellence in Security in León with a more updated and demanding version. This accreditation covers the work of the company’s more than 1,100 professionals.

The evaluation passed by the company follows the CMMI Institute’s model, a world benchmark in quality and the application of best practices in engineering and software development.

During this process, Indra has optimized the tools that support the entire life cycle of the systems and products, from the estimation and management of the scope of the project, through to the development and verification of the requirements, and finally their delivery.

This significantly facilitates the management of advanced solutions developed for the iTEC alliance (Interoperability Through European Collaboration) and for customers worldwide who use the Indra Air Automation system, formerly known as Aircon.

This improvement has also had an impact on the state-of-the-art solutions provided by the CES in León, such as the communications recording system and air traffic control screens, and the elements it contributes to the design and manufacture of advanced flight trainers and training systems for the police and soldiers.

These departments in Indra have adapted to the most advanced methodologies, such as “agile” ones, which are increasingly in demand, and have identified improvements to continue evolving and optimizing the company’s processes.

Indra is a leading company in air traffic management systems which have been deployed in over 5,700 facilities in 190 countries.

Organizations with a High Maturity level are characterized by the fact they set quantitative targets in terms of performance and quality of processes and use them as criteria in management. The company thus achieves greater stability and productivity in the development of its solutions, as well as greater customer satisfaction, which is verified through satisfaction surveys.

With this achievement, Indra has gained recognition for its efforts, the quality levels maintained in products and processes, the quantitative management which makes it possible to understand, control and predict its processes as well as continuously improving and innovating.

PRIMARY ARMS® OPTICS RELEASES ACSS® GRIFFIN™ MIL RETICLE FOR GLx 2.5-10×44 FFP RIFLE SCOPE

Primary Arms Optics

HOUSTON, TEXASPrimary Arms Optics has announced the release of a new reticle configuration for the GLx 2.5-10x44mm FFP Rifle Scope (MPN: 610143). The ACSS® Griffin™ MIL reticle brings the advanced ranging tools and innovative horseshoe design of traditional ACSS reticles to a MIL-grid system. Even with the new ACSS Griffin MIL reticle, this scope maintains its favorable price at $649.99.
The
GLx 2.5-10×44 is built to enhance both agility and accuracy of mid-range precision rifles. GLx scopes bring premium technology and materials to an approachable price range, and this scope is no exception. The fully multi-coated, low-dispersion glass provides exceptional light transmission for a clearer sight picture downrange, while the lightweight body and 2.5x minimum magnification improve handling speeds in close quarters. In addition, the large eyebox and daylight bright illumination assist in rapid target acquisition, allowing the user to take full advantage of their ACSS reticle system. As with other GLx scopes, GLx 2.5-10x44mm FFP Rifle Scopes come with enhanced locking turrets with return to zero, AutoLive™ motion sensing reticle illumination, and our hardened steel-on-steel adjustment system.
The ACSS Griffin MIL reticle is an advanced MIL-grid reticle that integrates ranging and acquisition tools from Primary Arms’ patented ACSS reticle system. This includes both vertical and horizontal ranging brackets, as well as a bold outer horseshoe for fast acquisition on low magnification. While the MIL grid can be used for most holdovers, users can also leverage the scope’s turrets and chevron aiming point for exact precision at longer distances.

“The ACSS Griffin MIL is a pro’s reticle, providing CQB (Close Quarter Battle), mid-range UKD (unknown distances) and exact mil/mil firing solutions hold overs in one system,” says Dimitri Mikroulis, inventor of the ACSS reticle system.

Elite Iron Offers Revolution Bipod Panning Model

Elite Iron Offers the Innovative Revolution Bipod Panning Model

(Potomac, MT) – Elite Iron, premier designer and manufacturer of professional grade firearms equipment and accessories, is proud to offer their innovative Revolution Bipod Panning Model.
Through years of researching and developing alternatives to the traditional bipod, Elite Iron has patented their proprietary designs based upon deep experience of real world tactical demands. The result of their commitment and efforts is the creation of the Revolution Bipod Panning Model. Designed for rifles up to .338 caliber, it is the most revolutionary choice in superior design for strength, stability, adjustability, and choices in the tactical world today. The bipod and mount weigh only 24 ounces.
Elite Iron has chosen only the highest quality components, resulting in reliable product strength. With no exposed springs or cheaply made stamped parts, the Revolution Bipod Panning Model‘s legs and tube stems are made of 7075 aluminum. The leg locks are made from 17-4 heat treated material  and the hidden springs are made from 316 stainless steel.
The Revolution Bipod Panning Model also offers impressive stability while allowing the rifle to revolve a full 360 degrees. The bipod maintains control of two axes of motion: side to side and up and down. Any position can be locked in place by tightening the tri-nut. Ease of movement decreases by tightening the torsion nut slightly until the final position is found and locked. The innovative design of the Revolution Bipod places the rifle under the apex of the legs and not on top.
The superior adjustability of the Revolution Bipod Panning Model allows the rifle to have horizontal 10 o’clock through 2 o’clock movement. The length of the legs can be adjusted quickly one at a time and at different lengths. Legs can be positioned or rotated forward, straight or back and either in parallel or separately. The center line of the ring is 7.25″ with legs retracted and 12.25″ extended on the Standard Leg Bipod. On the Optional Short Leg Bipod, the center line of the ring is 6″ with legs retracted and 10″ extended. The user can also attach different kinds of feet to match the environment.
Every Revolution Bipod comes with a choice of one free mount. The buyer will need to choose the right mount for the rifle and the interface (at an additional charge) that matches that mount. However, if the rifle has an interface such as a PIC RAIL, an interface might not be needed.
Every Revolution Bipod comes with a 2-year limited warranty. All parts are replaceable and available from Elite Iron.

NDIA’s Carlisle offers remarks on Capitol violence

Jan. 7, 2021

ARLINGTON, VA — Hawk Carlisle, president and CEO of the National Defense Industrial Association, issues the following statement on the violence that occurred Jan. 6 at the U.S. Capitol:
The officers serving our military and those in our government take an oath as they assume their responsibilities — an oath I willingly took and hold sacred. That oath is not to a person or position but to the Constitution that establishes our democracy and reflects our nation’s values, including the rule of law that protects our freedoms. It is those values we seek to defend through our service and through enabling those who serve with the unsurpassed capabilities our defense industrial base provides.
The despicable acts of yesterday’s mob, egged on by irresponsible rhetoric, is anathema to those values and the foundational document that has made America the shining city on the hill that has beckoned millions to a better way of life. NDIA deplores the breakdown of the rule of law, the desecration of the Capitol Building — our temple of democracy — and the attempted obstruction of the constitutional process that has guaranteed a peaceful transfer of power for well more than 200 years. America and Americans are better than this.
NDIA and its members are dedicated to being part of the solution while continuing to be at the heart of the defense of this great nation, its people and the values we hold dear.

Final Trophy Active Protection Systems Delivered to U.S. Army

RAFAEL'S TROPHY ON U.S ABRAMS (4)

TEL AVIV, JANUARY 6, 2020 – Leonardo DRS, Inc. and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. of Israel (Rafael) announced today that they have completed the delivery of Trophy Active Protection Systems (APS) ordered by the U.S. Army for installation on Abrams main battle tanks. This marks a major milestone in the Army’s efforts to outfit multiple brigades of tanks with APS to protect soldiers’ lives against increasing anti-armor threats.

Under contracts awarded on an urgent need basis by the Army’s Program Executive Office for Ground Combat Systems, the companies delivered the first APS systems in September 2019 for both the U.S. Army and Marine Corps. A joint team of government and industry from both the U.S. and Israel worked together to adapt and integrate Trophy for the two services’ Abrams variants.  This delivery culminates a multi-year effort by the Army to study and rapidly field active protection due to the urgency of the threat and the growing need for improved ground vehicle survivability.

“It has been an honor to deliver these advanced defensive protection systems for our front-line tanks to give our warfighters a needed layer of survivability against real and emerging battlefield threats”, said Aaron Hankins, senior vice president and general manager of the Leonardo DRS Land Systems business unit. “Together with our Rafael partners, we worked tirelessly to ensure we met our customers’ needs while delivering ahead of schedule, and we look forward to supporting them with APS in the future.” he said.

“Rafael is a leader in providing protection capabilities, both reactive armor and active protection. The threat of anti-armor weapons is growing and we were grateful to bring this life-saving technology to the U.S. to meet an urgent need,” said Michael Lurie, VP, head of Rafael’s Land Survivability and Maneuverability directorate. “While COVID-19 created challenges for on-time deliveries, we used our resources and capabilities to facilitate on-schedule deliveries. With our partner Leonardo DRS, we remain committed to supporting the Army and providing increased protection to U.S. forces on a timely basis.”

Developed by Rafael in response to successful anti-armor attacks and the ongoing proliferation of those threats, Trophy APS provides mature, combat-proven protection against rockets and missiles while simultaneously locating and reporting the origin of the hostile fire for immediate response.

Trophy is the only fully integrated, combat-proven APS in the world. In addition to the U.S. Abrams tanks, Trophy is currently installed on the Israel Defense Forces’ Merkava Main Battle Tanks and Namer APCs. It has made numerous combat interceptions with no injuries to crews, dismounted troops or damage to platforms since its first operational interception in 2011. Having undergone over 5,000 successful field tests, Trophy has accrued over 1,000,000 operating hours, and is now under contract for serial production of over 1,800 systems.

While Leonardo DRS and Rafael have completed these initial Trophy system deliveries to the U.S. Army, the partnership is also under contract for additional support and development work for future U.S. Abrams tanks.  The U.S. Army is also assessing the next generation “Trophy VPS,” a smaller, lighter, equally-capable variant of Trophy that will provide protection to a broader range of U.S. ground combat vehicles.

True West Magazine Awards Cimarron Firearms Best Cowboy Action Pistol and Best Single Shot Rifle for 2021

The new year starts with a bang for Cimarron Firearms with a reader-based award for Best Cowboy Action Pistol and Single Shot Rifle.

Fredericksburg, Texas (Jan. 2021)Cimarron Firearms, recognized as the leader in quality and authenticity in Old West replica firearms, jumps into the new year with not one, but two coveted awards from True West Magazine.

True West Magazine is the consummate publication for the individual passionate about the history of the American West. Continuously published since 1953, True West’s writings are known to “honor the truth, yet harbor a fondness for legends.” Their print and digital subscribers and readers are interested in historical events, the people (the good, the bad, and the ugly), the places, humor, historical photos and current artworks, and the frontier lifestyle. The Best of the West Award is an annual award voted by the readership for the best within a category. For the 2021 year, Cimarron Firearms has been awarded, by the readership, the Best Cowboy Action Pistol for their Evil Roy single-action .357 Magnum revolver and Best Single Shot Rifle for their Billy Dixon® Trapdoor rifle.

“What makes these awards meaningful for us, is that the votes come directly from the subscribers of True West Magazine,” Bryce Wayt, VP of Retail Operations for Cimarron Firearms, commented. “We thank True West Magazine and all the die-hard Western fans for these honors.”

The Best Cowboy Action Pistol awarded to the Evil Roy Competition SA was designed with features favored by SASS World Champion and SASS National Champion shooter Gene “Evil Roy” Pearcey. Built on the classic Peacemaker-style revolver concept, the Evil Roy SA 4 ¾” .357 Magnum features a wide, square-notch rear sight and wide constant width front sight for fast target acquisition. The slim, checkered wood grips offer a better and firmer hand fit and the action is hand-tuned in the US by Cimarron’s skilled gunsmiths with a made-in-the-USA competition hammer and trigger/bolt springs that offer a no-creep, lighter, smoother, crisper trigger pull and improved internal parts to enhance reliability. The Evil Roy Competition SA is available in Standard Blue or Stainless Steel and 4 ¾” and 5 ½” barrels in a variety of Cowboy Action calibers.

For the classic Western firearms enthusiast, the Billy Dixon Sharps rifle took the Best Single Shot Rifle award. Cimarron Firearms not only designs and produces firearms for collectors and competitors but history buffs and hunters as well. The traditional Sharps rifle has an honored place in history and the Cimarron Firearm Billy Dixon Sharps rifle celebrates the frontier spirit and skill required to carve out a life in the Old West. Billy Dixon and his 27 buffalo hunter friends had been surrounded by over 500 Kiowa and Comanche warriors at Adobe Walls on the Canadian River in the Texas panhandle, June 27, 1874. Billy’s keen eye and steady finger on his Sharps rifle knocked a Kiowa off his horse at 1,538 yard (7/8 mile) ending a potential siege before it even began. Many of Cimarron’s firearms are drawn from owner Mike Harvey’s extensive collection of rare and antique old west firearms, complete with legends, and designed and built to honor the history and give new generations of sport shooters replicas that feel, look, and shoot as they did way back then.

Shoot Like A Girl® Releases 2020 Annual Report

ATHENS, Ala. – January 6, 2021 – Shoot Like A Girl has released its annual report for the 2020 calendar year, announcing a full tour schedule, impressive attendance numbers and impactful results in spite of current events. Shoot Like A Girl was proud to, once again, host an extremely diverse group of women in age, ethnicity, political point of view and economic level at mobile range events last year. The mobile range traveled over 20,000 miles to conduct 22 events as part of the 2020 Coast to Coast Tour, and more than 2,701 women (and some men) were introduced to the shooting sports in 2020. The full report is available online.

“Upon reflection, there is one word that describes the experience of Shoot Like A Girl in 2020, Gratitude,” said Karen Butler, Founder and President of Shoot Like A Girl, in a letter to corporate partners. “Alongside and with the support of our partners, the team faced the challenges of COVID, and we were able to successfully complete our 2020 Coast to Coast Tour. When you look at the data in this report, you will find we continued the trends of previous years—we grew the number of women who participate in shooting sports, but moreover, we empowered women and their families with confidence.”

Empowering More Women

The Shoot Like A Girl experience is truly unique, giving women the opportunity to shoot a pistol, rifle and bow in a safe, controlled environment with the guidance of female NRA-certified instructors and archery coaches. In 2020, the tour included stops at Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s, conservation events

and corporate events—with several events having lines out the door and record numbers of attendees.

In the spring, Shoot Like A Girl’s tour was interrupted momentarily by COVID-19; however, Shoot Like A Girl adapted by utilizing technology and social media platforms to educate followers and stay connected with its audience. After the President announced the “Re-open America Guidance,” Shoot Like A Girl implemented new operating procedures to abide by the CDC’s COVID-19 guidelines and began traveling again to reach more women.

Continuing the Momentum

Looking ahead to 2021, Shoot Like A Girl is anticipating continued momentum from the previous year. The recently announced Home of the Brave Tour will begin in early February, and a full list of all tour dates is available online.

NSSF Commends Rep. Jeff Duncan’s Introduction of the Hearing Protection Act

January 6, 2021

NEWTOWN, Conn. – The NSSF®, the firearm industry’s trade association, commends U.S. Rep. Jeff Duncan’s (R-S.C.) introduction of the Hearing Protection Act, H.R. 95. The legislation was introduced with 36 original co-sponsors. The bill would remove firearm suppressors from the list of definitions under the 1934 National Firearms Act (NFA), eliminating onerous and duplicitous background checks. Instead, what is essentially a muffler for a gun would be regulated under the 1968 Gun Control Act (GCA) with the same background check that is required for a retail firearm purchase.

Firearm suppressors are legal to own and possess in 42 states and 40 states allow them for hunting.

“This legislation removes barriers to owning an accessory that makes recreational shooting and hunting safer, more accurate and allows shooting ranges to be better neighbors,” said Lawrence Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “Firearm suppressors are a safety device designed to make recreational shooting safer. They were originally listed under the NFA over concerns of poaching during the Great Depression, but that never bore out. Even today, suppressors are exceedingly rarely used in crime. NSSF thanks Congressman Duncan for his leadership to remove barriers to safe recreational shooting.”

Firearm suppressors, legally but inaccurately referred to as “silencers,” are devices that reduce the report of a firearm from a level roughly equal to that of a jet taking off which causes instant and permanent hearing loss to one that is safe, but still equal to a jackhammer. That decibel level will not permanently damage hearing. Suppressors work similar to a car’s muffler, redirecting exhaust gases and was originally patented more than 100 years ago by the same designer of car mufflers, Hiram Maxim.

The Marine Corps recently announced the fielding of 30,000 suppressors after extensive field testing demonstrated their use significantly reduced noise and permanent hearing loss among Marines. Many countries in Europe that have stringent gun control laws require the use of a suppressor when hunting or recreationally shooting. They are widely available and can often be purchased in a hardware store without the need for a background check.

Under current law, an individual purchasing a suppressor must locate a retailer that is regulated as a NFA Class III dealer, complete a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Form 4 with the model and serial number of the suppressor, and obtain two passport photos and fingerprint cards from a local police department. The local chief law enforcement official must receive a completed copy of the application. Then the form, photographs and fingerprints must be sent to ATF along with a check to pay the $200 tax. Currently, it takes ATF about nine months to process the paperwork. Then, the customer can obtain the suppressor from the NFA Class III dealer upon an additional background check through FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).

Congressman Duncan’s legislation would eliminate those requirements and make suppressors available with the same paperwork, markings, record keeping and background check approval that is required for a firearm.

New CZ TS2 Opens Doors to Competition Shooting

Kansas City, KS (January 5, 2021) – The speed, precision and dynamic performance afforded by CZ-USA’s handguns have made it the leading name for practical shooting disciplines like IPSC, USPSA, 3-Gun and Steel Challenge, a position CZ is not planning to yield any time soon.

The sport-shooting world reveres the CZ Tactical Sport for its crisp single-action trigger and long sight radius. Now, the pistol has evolved into the Tactical Sport 2 (TS2), a brand-new, built-from-the-ground-up firearm that represents the next generation in tactical sport pistols.

The TS2 was designed and built for competition shooters in the tradition of the company’s highly successful Shadow 2, mimicking its slide profile with the reciprocating weight positioned as low as possible for smoother operation, less muzzle flip and faster follow-up shots. Additionally, the TS2’s redesigned frame and improved ergonomics also reduce muzzle flip so that it’s less noticeable than ever.

The steel-framed, 9mm TS2 is an outstanding and affordable entry-level competition handgun with a wide variety of compatible accessories already available, as the large aftermarket of custom parts already available for the original Tactical Sport pistol are fully compatible with the TS2!

The new pistol comes with 20-round standard magazines and distinctive blue aluminum grips with aggressive checkering above a healthily flared magwell.

Front and rear cocking serrations on the slide make racking this pistol easy for practically anyone, with or without gloves. With a fiber-optic front sight, the included set of fixed target sights are rugged enough to withstand rough competition use.

The adaptable pistol can be easily fine-tuned to an individual shooter to be faster and more precise at the firing line, with the aforementioned custom parts for the Tactical Sport platform.

This new pistol is sure to become a favorite among IPSC/USPSA shooters, as well as beginners looking to get into competition pistol shooting for the first time.

MINISTRY OF DEFENCE COMMISSIONS INDRA AGAIN TO UPGRADE THE CHINOOK CH-47F SIMULATORS

Sim NH90

· The Helicopter Simulation Center of the Spanish Army consolidates its position as an international benchmark in the tactical training and instruction of military pilots

· The firm commitment of the Ministry of Defense in incorporating state-of-the-art technology provides the basis for the improved mission safety, effectiveness and success of the Armed Forces Flight Academy

· The simulators of Colmenar, Almagro and Agoncillo airbases are interconnected via HLA (High Level Architecture) in order to carry out joint training missions in a shared virtual environment

· Beyond this particular contract, Indra is awaiting confirmation on the procurement for the electronic defense system and the Mission-AMPS System

Madrid, January 05, 2021.- Indra will be upgrading the Chinook CH-47F helicopter simulation system, consisting of an FMS (Full Mission Simulator), the FTD (Flight Training Device) and the CBTs (Computer Based Trainer) at the Helicopter Simulation Center (CESIHEL) of the Armed Forces Flight Academy (ACAVIET), located at the Colmenar Viejo Base, to ensure Spanish pilots receive training at the highest level.

The thirty-million-euro contract will make the Spanish simulation center one of the most advanced in the world for this type of aircraft. In addition to this contract, Indra is still awaiting confirmation on the procurement for the electronic defense system and the Mission-AMPS System, which may be imminent.

The Chinook is one of the most powerful transport helicopters in the world, with a 12-ton loading capacity and it can transport dozens of soldiers. These exceptional capabilities have led many countries to decide on upgrading their fleets with the aim of extending their useful life beyond 2040.

Indra and the Spanish Army will replicate the new F version of the Chinook following the same design strategy they have used in other simulation systems such as the NH90 and the Tigre: using real teams to attain the greatest realism in training exercises, which means ensuring the future upgrades of the simulators are consistent with the next generation of the aircraft themselves, and having network simulation architecture based on standard HLA, which allows joint tactical mission training from several simulators at once located in different bases and utilizing multiple platforms (Tigre, Cougar, EC135 and NH90).

The system will feature a 4LED projection system, a technology introducing a fourth infra-red light channel, so pilots can train using their own night-vision goggles (NVG), and improved visual quality thanks to high-definition land, urban and habitat modeling.

Thanks to the long-term vision and ongoing efforts of the Ministry of Defense, the Armed Forces Flight Academy stays at the technological cutting edge in synthetic training, ensuring pilots are trained in the same way their missions will be carried out.

Such training saves up to 40% of the real flight time crews need to ensure proper training, instruction and advanced tactical skill development, thus increasing flight safety and reducing operating and sustainability costs (maintenance, fuel, wear on materials, ammunition).

Helicopters are becoming ever more complex platforms equipped with highly sophisticated technology systems. This means pilots require rigorous training over several years, thus becoming more and more specialized, allowing them to attain the necessary expertise to face the challenges of a real operation. In this task, simulators play a key role in providing the Army and the Spanish Armed Forces with the operability they require, as the number of helicopters that can be used in any given mission is determined by the number of pilots available having the required level of training.

The CESIHEL also has CBT classrooms (Computer Based Training) where both pilots and aircraft maintenance specialists are trained to the highest quality standards.

This means significant savings in terms of learning in complex tasks, process automation and the critical work that occurs over the aircraft’s service life.

NSSF Hails Rep. Richard Hudson’s Concealed Carry Reciprocity Legislation

For immediate release | January 5, 2021

H.R. 38 Would End Patchwork of Confusing Gun Law for CC Permit Holders

NEWTOWN, Conn. – NSSF®, the firearm industry’s trade association, hailed U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson’s (R-N.C.) introduction of the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2021, H.R. 38, on the first day of the 117th Congress. The legislation was introduced with bipartisan support and 154 original co-sponsors, demonstrating the wide-ranging support for protecting law-abiding concealed carry permit holders from navigating a patchwork of varying gun control laws when crossing a state line.

The bill aims to eliminate the confusion of varying state-by-state laws and provide protection for Second Amendment rights for permit holders. The legislation would allow handgun owners who are legally permitted and authorized by their home state to carry a concealed firearm in other states while complying with the laws of each state – much in the same way a driver’s license is recognized.

“This legislation provides an answer to the confusing patchwork of laws surrounding concealed carry permits, particularly with regard to states where laws make unwitting criminals out of legal permit holders for a simple mistake of a wrong traffic turn,” said Lawrence Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “It safeguards a state’s right to determine their own laws while protecting the Second Amendment rights of all Americans. We thank Rep. Hudson for his leadership on behalf of America’s hunters and recreational shooters.”

“Our Second Amendment rights do not disappear when we cross state lines, and H.R. 38 guarantees that,” said Rep. Hudson. “The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2021 is a common sense solution to provide law-abiding citizens the right to conceal carry and travel freely between states without worrying about conflicting state codes or onerous civil suits. I am especially proud to have such widespread and bipartisan support for this measure and will work with my colleagues to get this legislation over the finish line.”

Unlike other rights protected by the U.S. Constitution, the right to keep and bear arms is regulated differently by individual states. While individual rights to speech, religion and protections of Due Process or Search and Seizure are constant, gun rights vary according to the state. Reciprocity agreements exist, but not between all states and are ever-changing. That puts individuals at risk of running afoul of varying state-by-state laws when traveling and crossing borders.

The pitfalls of these varying state-by-state laws were exposed when Philadelphia resident Shaneen Allen faced up to five years in prison for bringing a firearm into New Jersey in 2013. She held a valid license to carry in Pennsylvania, but not in neighboring New Jersey. The mother-of-two voluntarily told a law enforcement officer of the firearm during a traffic stop, but was still arrested, charged, convicted and spent 48 days in jail – all for having made a wrong turn and accidentally crossing state line. Fortunately, after an 18-month legal ordeal, Republican Gov. Chris Christie pardoned Allen. Others are not so lucky.

Israel Ministry of Defense Completes Delivery of Rafael’s Iron Dome to the U.S. Army

Tel Aviv, January 4th, 2021 – Over the weekend, the Israel Missile Defense Organization (IMDO), in the Directorate of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D) of the Israel Ministry of Defense, delivered the second of two Iron Dome Defense System batteries to the U.S. Army. The Iron Dome system is developed and produced by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd.

Defense Minister, Benny Gantz: “The delivery of the Iron Dome to the U.S. Army once again demonstrates the close relations between the Israel Ministry of Defense and the U.S. Department of Defense, the effectiveness of the system against various threats, and the excellent technological capabilities of Israeli industries. I am confident that the system will assist the U.S. Army in protecting American troops from ballistic and airborne threats as well as from developing threats in the areas where U.S. troops are deployed on various missions.”

In August 2019, the United States and Israel signed an agreement for the procurement of two Iron Dome Defense System batteries (IDDS-A). The first battery was delivered in September and is already undergoing a process of implementation in the U.S. The second battery was delivered in accordance with the agreement and project schedule.

These batteries will be employed in the defense of U.S. troops against a variety of ballistic and aerial threats.

Iron Dome was developed and manufactured by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. The MMR radar is developed by ELTA, a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), and the command and control system (BMC), is developed by mPrest. The Iron Dome is an integral part of Israel’s multi-layered defense array developed by the IMDO. The defense array includes the Iron Dome, David’s Sling, Arrow-2 and Arrow-3 weapon systems.

NDIA applauds Congress for veto override, support of troops and defense

NDIA applauds Congress for veto override, support of troops and defense

ARLINGTON, VA — The National Defense Industrial Association issues the following statement on the congressional veto override:

NDIA commends Congress for its overwhelming vote to override the veto of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). With tallies of 322-87 in the House and 81-13 in the Senate, the bipartisan votes in both chambers demonstrate that national defense and support for our service members remain unifying values.

Aptly named for Rep. William M. “Mac” Thornberry, who has dedicated his legislative career to strengthening America’s defenses, the Fiscal Year 2021 NDAA supports our warfighters, deters great power competitors and invests in future capabilities necessary to extend of our nation’s advantages.

The NDAA also tackles critical issues like cybersecurity; recent breaches attributed to Russia highlight the need for Defense Department reform vital to realigning our policies, organization and resourcing to the National Defense Strategy.

With many hard choices to come, we hope the bipartisan momentum of this vote carries through to the 117th Congress and the incoming Biden administration.

FAA Issues Restrictions on UAS Operations at DOD Facilities

FAA Issues Restrictions on UAS Operations at DOD Facilities

Washington –The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) today announced Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) airspace restrictions over additional national security sensitive locations, effective December 30.

In cooperation with its federal partners, the FAA will restrict UAS operations in the airspace over two locations. The first facility is Rock Island Arsenal located between Davenport, Iowa and Rocks Island, Illinois. The second facility is Biometric Technology Center in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Restrictions on these Department of Defense facilities are to address concerns about drone activity over security sensitive facilities. Information on the FAA Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), FDC 0/5116, can be found on the FAA’s UAS Data Delivery System (UDDS) website. This website contains the text of FDC 0/5116 (click on “UAS NOTAM FDC 0/5116” on scroll bar along the top of the page).

UAS operators are strongly advised to review these NOTAMs on FAA’s UDDS website, which defines these restrictions, and all of the currently covered locations. Further down the page is an interactive map (“Map of FAA UAS Data”) displaying restricted airspace throughout the U.S. Zooming in will enable viewers to click on the new DOD locations and see the specific restrictions. Each of the locations are in yellow since the restrictions are pending until the Dec. 30 effective date, at which point they will become red.

The restrictions will also be included in the FAA’s B4UFLY mobile app.

UAS operators who violate these flight restrictions may be subject to enforcement action, including potential civil penalties and criminal charges.

The FAA considers requests by eligible federal security agencies for UAS-specific flight restrictions using its authority under 14 CFR § 99.7. The agency will announce any future changes, including additional locations, as appropriate.

U.S. Department of Transportation Issues Two Much-Anticipated Drone Rules to Advance Safety and Innovation in the United States

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) today announced final rules for Unmanned Aircraft (UA), commonly known as drones. The new rules will require Remote Identification (Remote ID) of drones and allow operators of small drones to fly over people and at night under certain conditions. These rules come at a time when drones represent the fastest-growing segment in the entire transportation sector – with currently over 1.7 million drone registrations and 203,000 FAA-certificated remote pilots.

Remote ID will help mitigate risks associated with expanded drone operations, such as flights over people and at night, and both rules support technological and operational innovation and advancements.

“These final rules carefully address safety, security and privacy concerns while advancing opportunities for innovation and utilization of drone technology,” said U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao.

Remote ID (PDF) is a major step toward the full integration of drones into the national airspace system. Remote ID provides identification of drones in flight as well as the location of their control stations, providing crucial information to our national security agencies and law enforcement partners, and other officials charged with ensuring public safety. Airspace awareness reduces the risk of drone interference with other aircraft and people and property on the ground.

Equipping drones with Remote ID technology builds on previous steps taken by the FAA and the drone industry to integrate operations safely into the national airspace system. Part 107 of the federal aviation regulations currently prohibits covered drone operations over people and at night unless the operator obtains a waiver from the FAA. The new FAA regulations jointly provide increased flexibility to conduct certain small UAS without obtaining waiver.

“The new rules make way for the further integration of drones into our airspace by addressing safety and security concerns,” said FAA Administrator Steve Dickson. “They get us closer to the day when we will more routinely see drone operations such as the delivery of packages.”

The Remote ID rule (PDF) applies to all operators of drones that require FAA registration. There are three ways to comply with the operational requirements:

1. Operate a standard Remote ID drone that broadcasts identification and location information of the drone and control station;

2. Operate a drone with a Remote ID broadcast module (may be a separate device attached to the drone), which broadcasts identification, location, and take-off information; or

3. Operate a drone without Remote ID but at specific FAA-recognized identification areas.

The Operations Over People and at Night rule (PDF) applies to Part 107 operators. The ability to fly over people and moving vehicles varies depending on the level of risk a small drone operation presents to people on the ground. Operations are permitted based on four categories, which can be found in the executive summary (PDF) accompanying the rule. Additionally, this rule allows for operations at night under certain conditions.

The final rule requires that small drone operators have their remote pilot certificate and identification in their physical possession when operating, ready to present to authorities if needed. This rule also expands the class of authorities who may request these forms from a remote pilot. The final rule replaces the requirement to complete a recurrent test every 24 calendar months with the requirement to complete updated recurrent training that includes operating at night in identified subject areas.

Both rules will become effective 60 days after publication in the Federal Register. The Remote ID rule includes two compliance dates. Drone manufacturers will have 18 months to begin producing drones with Remote ID, with operators having an additional year to start using drones with Remote ID.

Royal Thailand Army receives Rafael’s SPIKE Missile systems

SPIKE MR FOR THAILAND

Tel Aviv, December 28, 2020 – Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. announces that the Royal Thailand Army (RTA) has recently received a supply of Rafael’s SPIKE MR missiles and launchers following procurement of the missile system earlier this year.

The RTA selected the SPIKE MR (Medium Range) variant after a process of evaluation and procured its first lot of missiles and launchers designated for its 6th infantry division.

SPIKE MR is an electro-optical Fire & Forget missile for ranges of 2.5 km. It is part of the wider SPIKE missile family, which consists of five variants (SR, MR, LR2, ER2, NLOS) of electro-optical, multi-purpose, multi-platform missiles, with ranges of up to 32km and fire-and-update capabilities. To-date, SPIKE has been sold to 35 countries, including 19 NATO nations, with over 33,000 missiles already supplied and more than 6,000 fired in tests and in combat. SPIKE missiles have been integrated onto 45 different vehicular, helicopter and naval platforms.

Mr. Roman Palarya, director of marketing and business development at Rafael’s Precision Tactical Weapon Systems directorate: “We are very proud that the Royal Thai Army has selected the SPIKE missile. Did You Get That Christmas Drone?

5 reasons why a drone is the perfect Christmas gift

I hope you’ve all had a Joyous Christmas and that Santa brought all the goodies on your wish list, but if that wish list included a drone you may want to keep it grounded until you come up to speed on FAA Part 107. To help you with that, I’m posting a Webinar (36 min) hosted by AirMap. It does an excellent job  of presenting LAANC. Remember that you cannot fly in controlled airspace without FAA authorization, and using LAANC provides you with an approved and efficient system to do that.

An excellent resource for you is the firm of Ruppercht Law P.A. they practice  Drone Law and Drone Attorney Assistance. Johnathan published an informative piece “ Drone Pilot Received $182,000 Proposed Fine.”  It’s an important  read for you because it drives home the point that the FAA is very serious about 14CFR Part 107 compliance.

INDRA WILL EQUIP 24 SPANISH NH90 HELICOPTERS WITH THE MAXIMUM SURVIVAL CAPABILITY FOR 111 MILLION EUROS

· It will develop one of the most advanced threat alerters to date: fully digitized and with the ability to instantly cover the whole bandwidth

· It will also implement its InShield DIRCM countermeasure system that protects the aircraft against surface-to-air thermal guidance missiles or manpads

· Indra’s technology will protect the platform and its crew against a new generation of threats that are more advanced and difficult to detect, improving their survival

NH90-SpainMadrid, December 21, 2020.- Indra, one of the main global technology and consulting companies, has signed a contract with the Spanish Ministry of Defence to equip 23 NH90 helicopters with the most advanced electronic defense systems, essential to reinforce security of the aircraft and its crew in the area of operations. The amount of the contract amounts to 111 million euros, will have a duration of 7 years and provides for scope extensions up to a total of 135 million euros approved by the Council of Ministers.

The company will equip the GSPA and MSPT versions of this helicopter that will be used by the Spanish Army, Air Force and Navy, with a complete self-protection suite. The most innovative elements will include the Enhanced Suite Controller (EW Manager), a Next Generation Full Digital Radar Warning Receiver (RWR ALR-400FD) and a DIRCM InShield Directed Infrared Countermeasure system.

It will also integrate and supply all the other elements of the electronic defense suite, including missile alert sensors (MWS), laser alert (LWS) and the chaff and flare dispenser system (CMDS) that serve as decoys to circumvent attacks, as well as associated ground support and test equipment.

The helicopters’ ability to fly at low speeds and height and to land virtually anywhere gives them their main operational advantage, but also makes them especially vulnerable to attack. At the same time, threats have grown in sophistication and are now much more effective and difficult to detect.

Radar-guided missiles, for example, use frequency-hopping techniques to conceal themselves while some manpad missile launchers, a cheap and easily available weapon on the black market, employ projectiles with highly sophisticated guidance systems.

To face this challenge, Indra will develop an advanced full band warning receiver, with the ability to instantly monitor the entire electromagnetic spectrum, instead of covering different bands through partial band scanning strategies as was customary until now.

To carry out this task, the company will provide the system with a capacity for direct and instantaneous digitization of the electromagnetic spectrum that will allow it to analyze all signals at an enormous speed and coordinate the rest of the detection and countermeasure elements. In this way, Indra’s alert system will detect threats with an unprecedented level of reliability and immunity against disturbances in order to neutralize them.

Indra’s InShield Directed Infrared Countermeasure (DIRCM) system will blind the thermal guidance system of missiles launched from the ground with a beam of laser energy directed automatically, effectively and safely.

This highly sophisticated countermeasures system, capable of countering several simultaneous missile launches, is key to protecting the aircraft when it is about to land, take off or when it is flying low.

The InShield system was tested in 2017 in the NATO EMBOW exercises aboard a Chinook (CH-47). It is currently the only DIRCM system on the market that has proven its capabilities in Alliance testing. The system is being integrated for its operation in the Spanish Air Force’s fleet of A400M aircraft.

With this contract to equip the NH90 with electronic defense systems, Indra continues the work it has been carrying out on this new generation helicopter. The company has already equipped the first shipment of this class of helicopters with self-protection systems, the Tactical Mission System (AMPS) and the Friend-or-Foe Identification System (IFF).
