SIG SAUER CONFIRMS THEY WILL NOT ATTEND SHOT SHOW 2020

SIG SAUER, Inc. is proud to be an ardent supporter of the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) and leads the industry in support of the organization and its’ mission to promote, protect, and preserve the hunting and shooting sports.

Each January, NSSF hosts SHOT Show – the industry’s premier tradeshow.  As a strong supporter of NSSF, and an industry leading manufacturer, SIG has maintained a very large presence at SHOT Show and we continually grow our support for the organization, and our show presence, year after year. However, after thoughtful consideration, deliberation and a review of current circumstances, SIG SAUER has made the decision to not exhibit at the upcoming 2022 SHOT Show and will alternatively be making a $500,000 donation to NSSF to support both its mission and ongoing critical support of our industry.

For over 30 years SIG SAUER has attended SHOT Show, and we did not come to this decision without much thoughtful deliberation.  Our number one priority throughout the pandemic has been, and will remain, our employees.  SIG SAUER has an extremely large presence at SHOT Show sending over 140 employees to the show and our pre-show Range Day event.  Maintaining this presence, or even a scaled back minimum presence for 2022, represents a significant health risk to all 2,600 of our employees across our 13 U.S. locations, as individuals attending the show return to our facilities and risk continued exposure to our entire employee base.

Additionally, based on the circumstances as they are known to us today, it is incumbent upon us to review this decision from a financial perspective.  For the first time in many years, the SHOT Show space was redrafted, necessitating the need for a complete booth re-configuration and design.  Out of pocket expenses from this point forward will be well over $1 million and based on the uncertainty of large scale shows and events, this expense is not financially prudent.

In closing, SIG SAUER would like to once again note the important and essential work of the NSSF on behalf of our industry and reiterate our support for the organization and its mission.”

Although all of us will miss SIG SAUER’s usual exceptional presence, we look forward to seeing them throughout 2022 and again at SHOT SHOW 2023.

The innovative system transforms assault rifles into digital networked combat machines

Haifa, Israel, September 9, 2021 – Elbit Systems announced today the unveiling of the ARCAS, a built-in computerized Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered system that interfaces with the rifle’s Electro-Optical (EO) sight, with a helmet mounted eyepiece and with the rifle’s assemblies, providing soldiers with real-time intuitive actionable combat information. ARCAS transforms assault rifles into digital, networked combat machines enabling a step change in the lethality, mission effectiveness and survivability of dismounted soldiers in both day and night.

ARCAS provides infantry and Special Operation warriors with combat capabilities that were not available for them before, including: passive range measurement, automatic ballistic correction, detection of fire sources, video motion detection, the ability to shoot around the corner and from the hip, interface with tactical Command and Control (C2), navigation assistance, friend or foe identification, tracking of stoppage and ammunition and weapon zeroing without the need for live fire.

An AI-powered computer is integrated into the assault rifle’s forward grip, running innovative software and a range of applications. The miniaturized computer unit receives and processes data collected from the soldier’s field of view (as perceived by the EO sight), tactical information from C2 systems, data from other ARCAS users in the team and the rifle’s mechanical information. The combat information is presented to the soldier as an intuitive augmented reality layer on top of the scenery that is seen through the EO sight or the helmet mounted eyepiece. Soldiers operate the system using a joystick button placed on the rifle’s forward grip and a Graphical User Interface inspired by the gaming world.

Designed in an open architecture approach, ARCAS has two configurations. It can include a thermal or low light sight as part of the system, and is capable of interfacing to any existing EO sight. The A18D Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) was evaluated recently by the French Directorate General of Armaments (DGA), the French Navy and the Naval Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service (Shom) as part of the Future Hydrographic and Oceanographic Capacity (CHOF) programme. The aim of this armament programme is to update and develop France’s current capacity for oceanographic and hydrographic data acquisition and processing.

Embarked on the French Navy’s Offshore Support & Assistance Vessel (BSAM) Rhône, the A18D AUV performed a large variety of missions to precisely map the relief and sea beds down to 3000m depth, in the currents and swell of the Atlantic.

The example of the A18D tested showed a high level of reliability and proved to be easy to install and operate, thanks to its optimised size-to-weight ratio (5.7m-780kg) and its intuitive user interface.

With ECA GROUP’s supervision, the onboard crews of the DGA, the French Navy and the Shom were able to take charge of the AUV and be autonomous at all stages of the mission: from the preparation, launching, supervision of the measurement campaigns, up to recovering the vehicle and the data obtained.

These trials have allowed the A18D’s maturity to be measured. Moreover, the richness of the feedback allowed the teams to evaluate the potential of using a drone to accompany and enrich hydro[1]oceanography missions.

The quality of the very high resolution images acquired by the A18D was recognised.

Quang Nguyen as the 2021 NSSF Arizona State Legislator of the Year for his determined commitment to protect the firearm industry against frivolous lawsuits, recognizing the firearm industry as “essential” during state emergencies and preserving America’s Constitutional Second Amendment rights.

Representative Nguyen, with Arizona Republican state Sen. Wendy Rogers, was instrumental in passing Senate Bill 1382, which prohibits state entities from suing a member of the firearm industry for lawful design, marketing, distribution and sale of firearms and ammunition to the public. The legislation also prohibits a civil action from being brought against a manufacturer or seller of a firearm or ammunition or related trade association for damages resulting from the criminal misuse of the firearm or ammunition, with exceptions. The bill also codifies in statute that firearm businesses are “essential” during a state of emergency.

Representative Nguyen’s Senate Bill 1382 was just the first of many actions he spearheaded to protect the firearm industry. Representative Nguyen led the effort to pass a Legislative Proclamation calling on U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly to recuse himself from a potential confirmation vote on David Chipman as ATF Director. Sen. Kelly is co-founder of the Giffords gun control group, for which Chipman is a lobbyist. Chipman’s nomination was ultimately unsuccessful.

October 2021 – Rafael Advanced Defense Systems is participating in AUSA 2021, the Association of the US Army’s annual conference, in Washington, DC from October 11-13, 2021. Rafael will showcase its newly enhanced SAMSON 30mm Integrated Remote Weapons Station (RWS) for Light Vehicles for the first time at the conference.

With a combination of the world’s most cutting-edge, reliable, and effective solutions the SAMSON 30mm Integrated RWS is designed to address the threats of the modern battlefield.

The SAMSON is equipped with hostile fire detection capabilities and the ability to rapidly and effectively return fire via a fast, accurate slew-to-cue mechanism. It also includes a unified user interface for all subsystems, an inherent hatch for close situational awareness, and under-armor ammunition loading that increases lethality. These capabilities enable the SAMSON to turn a light vehicle into a lethal powerhouse on par with a main battle tank.

A key element of SAMSON’s lethality suit is its integration of the SPIKE LR 1 & 2 multi-purpose guided missiles, and its full collaboration TROPHY Active Protection System (APS), two of Rafael’s most groundbreaking solutions. These allow the RWS to provide unparalleled maneuverability, lethality, and survivability. With a SAMSON turret, a vehicle is always at the ready, always on the attack, and always able to stop and respond to threats.

FIRE WEAVER: A networked system connecting all battlefield elements in real time, Fire Weaver instantly selects the most relevant effector shooter for every acquired target. Simultaneously handling multiple targets using AI and data fusion, Fire Weaver enables warfighters to receive and share battlefield data via augmented reality icons on their weapon sights, creating a common situational awareness picture for all participants.

SKYSPOTTER: A passive electro-optical Early Warning System with a high probability of detection and a very low false alarm rate, SKYSPOTTER enhances the capability of air defense radar detection systems. For the first time, SKYSPOTTER will be showcased through a simulator at AUSA.

BHA is hiring more employees, obtaining a new and larger building, increasing the number of machinery, and doubling sourcing suppliers to reduce lead times.

Cody, Wyo. (October 2021) – As with most industries, the firearms industry has seen an impact on suppliers and vendors due to COVID-19 restrictions and limitations. In addition, there has been an increase in product demand as American citizens turn out to support their 2A rights with a record-setting number of background checks in 2020 alone. The delays from suppliers and vendors, as well as the increase in demand, have resulted in extended lead times for Big Horn Armory (BHA) firearms. However, Big Horn Armory, makers of big-bore firearms, are implementing several changes that will work to improve product lead times over the next few months. These new changes include hiring more employees, obtaining a new and larger building, increasing the number of machinery, and doubling BHA’s sourcing suppliers.

“We hope to increase our manufacturing capabilities two to three times over the next year,” commented Greg Buchel, Owner of Big Horn Armory. “Much of this will involve new personnel in our assembly and quality control departments. We have a core workforce of excellent people right now and we intend to use these people to train and orient our new personnel to create more of the fine products that we currently produce for our customers.”

BHA will be doubling its workforce in the next few months in the manufacturing department. A new building will increase the manufacturing space by 500 percent and in addition to providing more manufacturing space, will also offer better facilities for building BHA’s firearms and for maintaining inventory. New machinery will include CNC mills and lathes and barrel-making equipment, which will help to lessen the dependency upon outside vendors.

“Our firearms are not purchases made on a whim, but thoughtful investments in heirloom-quality rifles aimed at giving you the biggest bang for your buck. We know our customers want these rifles, and we want to give them to them. We’re working our hardest to get our firearms out the door and into our customers’ hands,” Buchel stated. “We appreciate our customers’ patience as they bear with us as we continue to fulfill our orders and implement these changes to meet our customers’ needs.”

The value of the contract option is $11,731,740 and includes flight control system kits, ground control stations and tail booms for the Army’s existing fleet of Raven® tactical UAS. Delivery is scheduled to be completed by September 2022.

The Future Force Capabilities Conference and Exhibition planning team continues to monitor the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation as the health of our event participants, members, and partners remains our top priority. We are committed to following the guidelines and precautions as outlined by the Attendees can expect to see the following at NDIA events:

PROOF OF VACCINATION: All attendees will be required to provide proof of vaccination or proof of negative COVID-19 test within three (3) days of arrival. Details for securely providing documentation will be provided shortly on the event website.
MASKS: Fully vaccinated attendees are encouraged to wear face masks but, in accordance with CDC guidance, may make that choice for themselves. If you are not fully vaccinated, you are required to wear a face mask in public places. For any event taking place at Fort Benning, masks will be required indoors and when six feet of social distancing in an outdoor area cannot be maintained.
WAIVER: All registrants are required to sign the COVID-19 waiver during the online registration process. Attendees may disclose their vaccination status at the time of signing.
SOCIAL DISTANCING: Additional venue space will be available to allow for attendees to spread out. Timed badge pick-ups will be implemented to reduce crowding at registration.

This 12-gauge magazine fed shotgun is chambered in 3″ magnum and will cycle both 3″ and 2 ¾” loads without hesitation. The DF12 comes outfitted with an Escort standard oxidation-proof, chrome plated, drilled steel barrel. To ensure the utmost strength, each barrel is proof tested at the factory. A muzzle cover protects the barrel and locks the forend into place, adding to the robustness and modularity of this shotgun platform.

The DF12 makes field-stripping and cleaning a breeze. The upper and lower receivers are detachable, much like their modern sporting rifle brethren, allowing enthusiasts to feel at home with this shotgun.

Ballistic: Four Steps to Fall Hunting Success

Gainesville, GA (October 5, 2021) Fall hunting season is here, and now is the time to get your hunting rifle ready. The smart hunter will use Ballistic and our 4-Step Process to ensure their shooting preparation is as efficient as possible.

STEP 1: Chronographing

At the shooting range, begin by chronographing the various hunting rounds to be used later in the season to true the rifle and calculate accurate muzzle velocity. Then use this data to start building a Ballistic Profile for each hunting round.

STEP 2: Zeroing

Next, the hunter needs to zero each round at 100 yards.

Once the 100-yard zero is established, it’s time to reach out further. If the shooting range has 200- and 300-yard and longer opportunities, practice at these distances. If the range is limited to 100-yard shots, find some wide-open land and set up targets at various distances.

The longer-distance practice will make a hunter familiar with the bullet drop and wind adjustments needed in the field, and Ballistic will provide those holdover and windage points.

STEP 3: Targets

Longer-distance shooting also lets the hunter see how targets look at various distances. Speaking of targets, investing in life-sized paper game targets can be a huge help, too. When these life-sized targets are arranged at various distances, hunters become familiar with how animals will appear at these distances through their optics.

STEP 4: Environmentals

Practice during windy days is also a must! That left-to-right breeze likely won’t make much difference for a 100-yard shot. However, many hunters are amazed to discover just how much bullet drift even a 5 M.P.H. breeze can create at 400-plus yards.

With Ballistic, shooters and hunters can input wind speed and direction in a manner of ways. Angle inputs (e.g., 90° = crosswind left to right) are possible for the wind direction or the O’clock format (e.g., 3:00 will automatically translate to 90°) can be used, too. Headwinds can also be added in, and Ballistic will automatically adjust velocity to account for the headwind calculation.

Working Ballistic into these practice sessions will pay big dividends when hunting. Just as they would in the fields during the season, hunters practicing for the fall should regularly update Ballistic’s environmental inputs, including wind speed and directions.
