Greetings Night Fighters,

Howdy from the TNVC Magic Goggles Emporium, where we make all of your low and no light training requirements come true. Hope everyone has had the opportunity to take some time off this summer, time to get back after some world class Night Fighter training.

We are super excited to announce our 2026 TNVC Training Schedule, launching Spring and Fall seasons. Of note, we’re excited to add our entire course catalog at The Ranch in Dilley, Texas and expand our offerings at The Ben Franklin Range to include Nighfighter 201.

Here’s a quick refresher of our offerings:

Try Before You Buy:

A single night (roughly 6-8 hours) event to help new and prospective buyers get a detailed and personal session to help them make an informed decision on their night vision purchases. Purposely small, we want to make sure that we can give the customer enough time and information to guide them through the technologies and options available to them. Customers will be able to sample products and options currently available for purchase and experience them in use.

Nighfighter 101:

Designed to arm students with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of night vision operation and use. Beginning with gear choice and setup, the class provides students the tools for learning to safely / effectively move, shoot, and communicate in low-light/no-light environments. Students will participate in a variety of movement and live-fire exercises aimed at producing a core competency with night vision goggles, lasers, and white light.

Nightfighter 201:

Designed to provide advanced instruction to students who already are competent in low/no-light operations. This course focuses on building upon students’ already established skillsets in both individual and team settings for increased capabilities in a variety of different environments. Students will execute a number of tactical and skilled-based tasks including team movement and communication, target discrimination/engagement, advanced problem solving and individual/team tasks in an assortment of environments.

Law Enforcement Training Programs

Do you know that in addition to open enrollment training, TNVC also conducts Law Enforcement specific training?    Our Law Enforcement training team’s diverse real-world experience allows us to provide a flexible and adaptable curriculum to provide specialized training that is safe, realistic, and practical to Law Enforcement agencies with different levels of night vision knowledge and experience.  Our training team will work with your agency to help tailor our instruction to meet your requirements and needs.  TNVC can provide instruction ranging from “unboxing” and familiarization up to building on already existing night vision skillsets. 

If it is not possible for an agency to host TNVC for a contract class, there is still an opportunity for officers to get the NVG training that they are seeking.    TNVC also conducts a Law Enforcement Night Fighter 101* class.  These classes closely follow the format and instruction method of our civilian “open enrollment” classes.   However, by having a student base comprised solely of Law Enforcement professionals, this gives us the freedom to address certain topics in class that would not be relevant or appropriate in an open enrollment class.  Time can be spent discussing things such as equipment procurement assistance, legality and case law pertaining to night vision, use of force considerations, etc.  Additionally, these courses will occur during the week to hopefully make it easier for LEOs to attend.

The FBI has issued a public service announcement about a growing scam involving physical packages sent to individuals without explanation. Inside these packages, recipients are finding printed QR codes—codes that, when scanned, can lead to phishing websites or malware downloads.

According to the agency, these scams are a recent variation of what’s known as a “brushing scam.” Traditionally, brushing scams involve sending unsolicited goods to boost online product reviews using the recipient’s name. In this newer version, the packages serve as delivery mechanisms for fraudulent QR codes.

Once scanned, some of the codes redirect users to fake websites that ask for personal or financial information. In other instances, they initiate the download of malware designed to steal data from the device.

The packages typically contain no identifying information about the sender, which increases the chances that recipients may become curious and interact with the QR code. The FBI notes that although the scale of this scam is currently limited, the tactic is serious enough to warrant national attention.

To protect themselves, individuals are advised to be cautious with unexpected deliveries, especially those lacking sender details. Scanning unknown QR codes should be avoided altogether unless the source can be verified.

Additionally, the FBI recommends that users decline any requests for permissions from pop-up notifications on mobile devices, particularly if prompted after scanning a code. Allowing access to apps, contacts, or camera functions without verifying the source could expose sensitive information.

The FBI encourages victims or those who receive suspicious packages to report the incident to the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). If someone suspects they’ve been targeted, they should take immediate steps to secure their accounts, including changing login credentials and reviewing account activity. It is also recommended to check for unusual activity on credit reports.

SAAMI Updates Its ‘Sporting Firearms’ Handling and Transportation Publication

SHELTON, Conn.— The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute,® Inc., (SAAMI®), has revised and updated its information publication, “Sporting Firearms: Safe Handling Considerations and Shipping Guidelines for Interstate Transportation.”

The publication, which can be accessed here, reviews general transportation regulations for both Federal Firearms License (FFL) holders and private citizens, common carrier restrictions, packing firearms for shipment and firearm safety.

The guidelines have been prepared by SAAMI to provide anyone concerned with the handling or shipment of sporting firearms certain basic and important facts about the subject. SAAMI notes that the statements and recommendations in the publication do not supersede local, state or federal regulations, or constitute legal advice.

“SAAMI regularly updates its publications to ensure it is providing the industry and the public with the most current, accurate information, in this case on the shipping of sporting firearms,” said Brian Osowiecki, SAAMI Director, Regulatory Affairs & Administration.

SAAMI is the organization at the forefront of promoting firearm safety by creating standards that ensure safety, reliability and interchangeability of firearms, ammunition, suppressors, and their components.

“These new SAAMI suppressor standards have been eight years in the making and involved a great deal of research, testing and hard work by the SAAMI team and SAAMI member companies,” said Joe Bartozzi, SAAMI President and CEO. “Sound suppressors have become standard equipment for many firearm owners, and with more manufacturers producing these hearing-protection devices to meet consumer demand, SAAMI manufacturing standards were requested by industry.”

The “Voluntary Industry Performance Standards Criteria for Firearm Sound Suppressors for the Use of Commercial Manufacturers” contains thread and socket drawings, recommendations on how to communicate intended cartridge, minimum barrel length, maximum firing cadence and maximum rounds before required cooling, procedures and equipment required for suppressor sound measurement, measuring suppressor-to-bore alignment, testing for abusive mishandling, overpressure testing and stress testing.

FAA: Notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) FAA Part 108

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is actively working to integrate Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), commonly known as drones, into the National Airspace System (NAS). This complex undertaking aims to allow drones to operate safely alongside traditional manned aircraft, unlocking their vast potential for commercial and public use. The FAA’s approach involves a multi-faceted strategy encompassing regulations, pilot certification, technological advancements, and collaborative programs.

A cornerstone of their efforts is the Part 107 rule, which established a framework for commercial drone operations, including requirements for remote pilot certification and operational limitations. More recently, the FAA has focused on enabling Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations, which are crucial for applications like package delivery and infrastructure inspection. A new proposed rule for BVLOS aims to streamline the approval process, moving away from individual waivers to a more scalable regulatory pathway.

To enhance safety and facilitate integration, the FAA has implemented Remote Identification (Remote ID), essentially a “digital license plate” for drones, broadcasting their identification and location. This technology is vital for security and for enabling Unmanned Aircraft System Traffic Management (UTM) systems, which will help manage drone traffic at lower altitudes. Programs like the Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC) provide near real-time authorization for drone flights in controlled airspace, significantly simplifying the process for operators.

The FAA latest effort, announced on 5 August 2025, is their notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) Part 108. Still in DRAFT form it proposes a number of changes that will be important to you as a Part 107 Remote Pilot and/or a UAS operator.

SAAMI® to Participate in PCB 2025 Conformal Ballistic Training

SHELTON, Conn.– The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute,® Inc., (SAAMI®) will participate in the 2025 Conformal Ballistic Training in Buffalo, N.Y., on August 20 and 21.

Alan Serven, SAAMI’s Senior Director, Technical Affairs, will present on the new SAAMI American National Standard (Z299.6) for Suppressors for the Use of Commercial Manufacturers.

This standard covers the thread specifications for attaching suppressors (and other muzzle devices) to firearms, sound-reduction measurement and other design considerations such as stress testing and over-pressure testing.  Additionally, the presentation will delve into the statistical derivation of SAAMI pressure limits and discuss some common issues encountered in ballistic testing seen in the real world.

The Conformal Ballistic Training is a two-day exclusive training sponsored by PCB Piezotronics that will cover conformal ballistic testing in accordance with SAAMI Standards Z299.1 – Z299.4.  Learn more about the training session, including registration information, here.

If you’re like me, you wish away the summer, even cursing it for interrupting your hunt season and making you hang up your bird vest. The mid-Atlantic can be a bit brutal, though, especially in September when the season comes back. It also sees its fair share of hurricanes and flat-out ugly thunderstorms. The dove migration is highly susceptible to these strong storms, and you’ll often hear chatter about the birds getting “blown out.”

It doesn’t take but a week or two for the birds to become educated and even more evasive, giving them that oh-so-appropriate name, “Grey Ghosts.” So, with such fickle and punishing weather and temperamental targets, why do so few utilize the summer months to prepare?

CLAYTON, MO (August 5, 2025) — Connor Daniel has taken the shooting sports by storm, recently winning two of the most significant events in the world. A member of Team Winchester and Team White Flyer, Daniel secured the Junior Championship titles at both the 2025 World English Sporting Clays Championship and the World FITASC Sporting Clays Championship.

July has been a month of success for Connor as he added more championship titles to his impressive list of accomplishments. After maintaining consistent technique and incredible mental focus through 200 targets, Connor secured the World Junior Champion title just five days after becoming the World Junior Champion in English Sporting Clays.

SIG SAUER Partners with the Infinite Hero Foundation and Carey Hart for the SIG SAUER Hero’s Journey Sweepstakes

NEWINGTON, N.H., (August 4, 2025) – SIG SAUER, a leading American defense and outdoor products manufacturer, is proud to sponsor the Hero’s Journey Sweepstakes in partnership with the Infinite Hero Foundation and Carey Hart. The winner of the sweepstakes will receive a custom motorcycle valued at over $55,000.  The one-of-a-kind motorcycle is a collaboration between SIG SAUER, Indian Motorcycle and Carey Hart – a ride as unique as you are!


All proceeds from the sweepstakes will be donated to the Infinite Hero Foundation, a nonprofit organization with the mission to connect military, veterans, and military family members with innovative and effective treatment programs for service-related injuries. The Infinite Hero Foundation believes service-related mental and physical health challenges are foundational issues and works to support the development of more effective treatments and ensure accessibility for every military hero and family – regardless of geography or resources.

Carey Hart, a former professional freestyle motocross competitor, partnered with the Infinite Hero Foundation to help raise donations through his Good Ride charity rallies.
