German Bundeswehr to equip Leopard 2 MBT’s with Rafael’s TROPHY™ APS

Tel Aviv, February 23, 2021 – Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. is announcing that the German Federal Ministry of Defense has decided to equip the Bundeswehr’s Leopard 2 MBTs with Rafael’s Trophy™ Active Protection Systems (APS).

Following the decision, which was made by the BAAINBw and approved by the Bundestag, Rafael was awarded a contract for an initial batch of Trophy systems, which includes a contract with Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), the Leopard MBTs OEM, entailing the provision of systems for a company of tanks, interceptors, and spare parts, as well as operational and technical training. The systems will be delivered over the next several years.

It is expected that in the future Germany will procure additional Trophy systems to equip most of its modern fleet of Leopard 2 MBT’s with APS capabilities.

Developed by Rafael in response to successful anti-armor attacks, Trophy APS provides mature, combat-proven protection against rocket and missile threats and simultaneously locates the origin of the hostile fire for immediate response. Trophy is the only fully-integrated, combat-proven APS in the world and has been installed on Israel Defense Forces’ Merkava tanks since 2010, as well as on the Namer APCs. Trophy has made numerous combat interceptions with no injuries to crews or dismounted troops or damage to platforms since its first operational interception in 2011. Trophy has accrued over 1,000,000 operating hours, including 5,400 successful field tests, and is now under contract for serial production of over 1,800 systems.

In January, Rafael and partner DRS announced that they had completed the delivery of Trophy Active Protection Systems (APS) ordered by the U.S. Army for installation on Abrams main battle tanks, under contracts awarded on an urgent need basis by the Army’s Program Executive Office for Ground Combat Systems.

Hatsan’s Full-Auto Blitz .30 Cal

Bentonville, AZ (February 23, 2021) – The Blitz is a select-fire semi-/full-auto, Pre-Charged Pneumatic, .30 caliber air rifle that produces upwards of 50 ft-lbs of energy. Users can easily switch between either firing mode with just the flick of a switch. The gas-operated cycling mechanism does not rely on battery power and is capable of firing at a high rate of speed. This new rifle features a large 580cc carbon fiber air tank that can provide over 100 shots of semi- or full-auto excitement. Two 16-round spring rotary magazines are included with the rifle, and the loading key has its own unique storage space on the stock.

The tactical all-weather synthetic stock not only looks great but boasts excellent ergonomic features, as well. The integrated pistol grip has rubberized panels to help facilitate a secure grip in any environment. An elevation adjustable cheek rest ensures proper sight alignment, and the buttpad is both elevation and angle adjustable so it can be customized to fit just right.

Equipped from the factory is a 1-piece carry handle with adjustable open sights that can be removed to make way for lighted and/or magnified optics of choice. Hatsan’s standard combination optics rail is integrated into the top of the receiver, allowing for the use of either 11mm dovetail or 22mm Weaver mounts. Three Picatinny accessory rails surround the air cylinder for ultimate flexibility in accessory mounting options. The Blitz also features a built-in manometer that is color-coded for easy reference.

SIMI VALLEY, Calif., Feb. 22, 2021 – AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV), a global leader in unmanned aircraft systems, today announced it had completed its acquisition of Arcturus UAV, Inc. a leading designer and manufacturer of high-performance unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). The approximately $405 million transaction was previously announced in a press release on January 13, 2021.

The United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) selected Arcturus UAV as one of six companies qualified for the potential $975 million indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity MEUAS IV contract in June 2020. The contract enables awardees to compete for site-specific task orders and provide USSOCOM with unmanned aircraft systems services and support for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) operations. Arcturus UAV employs its VTOL JUMP 20 in support of USSOCOM operations, minimizing the logistical footprint of UAS operations while delivering multi-payload, multi-mission capabilities. Arcturus UAV is also one of four awardees selected for funded development and demonstrations supporting the U.S. Army’s FTUAS program, a potential billion dollar, and next-generation UAS program.

WASHINGTON — The Department of the Interior today announced additional members of the agency leadership team working to steward America’s natural, cultural and historic resources, and honor our nation-to-nation relationship with Tribes.
“As we work to advance President Biden’s vision for a clean energy future that creates good-paying jobs, protects the environment, and powers our nation, we are thrilled to welcome our newest teammates. Shakiyya is an educational consultant, Institute for Teachers of Color femtor, BetterLesson, Inc. Master Teacher, KSDE Culturally Relevant Pedagogy Consultant, and Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellow. She has served as a Congressional Policy Fellow for the past seven months in Representative Deb Haaland’s office managing priority issues, conducting research, developing legislation and strategies for legislative priorities, and managing and responding to constituent correspondence.
Daniel Cordalis – Deputy Solicitor, Water
Daniel Cordalis has more than a decade of experience working on natural resource and complex water and land management issues on behalf of Tribal governments and conservation groups. Daniel most recently worked in private practice. He previously was an attorney with Earthjustice, the Yurok Tribe, and clerked for the Colorado Supreme Court and the Native American Rights Fund. After graduating from Rice University, Daniel received a M.A. focused on hydrology and a J.D. from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Raised in southwest Colorado, Daniel is a Navajo Tribal member and lives with his family outside Arcata, California.
Nada Culver – Deputy Director, Policy and Programs, Bureau of Land Management
Nada Wolff Culver most recently served as the Vice President, Public Lands and Senior Policy Counsel at the National Audubon Society. Prior to joining Audubon, Nada was the Senior Counsel and Senior Director for Policy and Planning at The Wilderness Society. Nada began her career in the private sector, working on a variety of environmental issues including energy development and environmental remediation, and was a partner with the law firm of Patton Boggs. She is a graduate of Northwestern University and the University of Pennsylvania School of Law.
Bryan Newland – Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Indian Affairs
Bryan Newland is a citizen of the Bay Mills Indian Community (Ojibwe), where he recently completed his tenure as Tribal President. Prior to that, Bryan served as Chief Judge of the Bay Mills Tribal Court. From 2009 to 2012, he served as a Counselor and Policy Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of the Interior – Indian Affairs. He is a graduate of Michigan State University and the Michigan State University College of Law. Bryan enjoys hiking and kayaking the shores of Lake Superior, and is a nature photography enthusiast.

NDIA’S Carlisle goes before Senate Armed Services Committee today

ARLINGTON, VA – Hawk Carlisle, president and CEO of the National Defense Industrial Association, will testify Tuesday, Feb. 23, before the Senate Armed Services Committee, addressing the importance of emerging technologies and their impact on national security, the Arlington, Virginia-based trade group announces.
The hearing will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and will be broadcast live at this link<https://www.armed-services.senate.gov/hearings/21-02-23-emerging-technologies-and-their-impact-on-national-security>. Carlisle will appear with Eric Schmidt, former CEO of Google and cofounder of Schmidt Futures, and Brad Smith, president of Microsoft Corp.
A former four-star general with nearly 40 years in the Air Force, Carlisle is an expert on emerging technologies, particularly those that are key to the U.S. military’s success. He also knows well the development of these technologies in what has become the “great power competition” with U. S. adversarial nations. He will discuss the main applied sciences needed now, their timeline to development and what obstacles there may be.
This will be the first hearing under Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI) newly appointed committee chairman. About 20 committee members are expected to attend.

EXTREMA RATIO – ERMES

ERMES is the commemorative knife designed with the Special Operative Helicopter Regiment (R.E.O.S.) which is part of the Italian army aviation.

R.E.O.S. is the operational unit of helicopters supporting the special forces composed by specifically trained staff, particularly trained and equipped in order to support military activities in every operational context.

The stylized knife guards represent the wings present in the heraldic symbol of the regiment.

It is available in two different versions:

“ERMES SATIN ORDINANZA” with satin blade and ABS suitcase.

“ERMES BLACK OPERATIVO” with burnished blade.

The steel used is the reliable Bölher N690Co heat treated at 58 HRC.

Fiberglass-reinforced polyamide FRN (Fiber Reinforced Nylon) was chosen for the handle.

Iveco Defence Vehicles at IDEX 2021

IDEX 2021 (21st – 25th February) represents not only a symbolic restart but also gives Iveco Defense Vehicles the chance to display its newest developments and to highlight its latest commercial successes to customers and visitors to the show.

MTV – Medium Tactical Vehicle: Iveco Defense Vehicles benefits from a consolidated experience in the domain of multirole protected vehicles, with the best seller Light Multirole Vehicle LMV 1, adopted by 14 Countries, and the heavier Medium Protected Vehicle MPV in service in Italy and Lebanon. Both vehicles have already been extensively deployed in high-risk operations where a great number of soldiers have been saved during ballistic/mines/IEDs attacks, fulfilling one of the primary goals required by any customer. The range has been completed by a brand-new vehicle, the Medium Tactical Vehicle MTV, presented in IDEX for the first time.

Iveco Defense Vehicles multirole vehicles range now includes vehicles between 7 and 19 tons GVW: MUV – Multirole Utility Vehicle, LMV 1 and LMV 2 – Light Multirole Vehicle, MPV – Medium Protected Vehicle and the new-born MTV – Medium Tactical Vehicle, with a GVW of 12,000 kg, which fills a gap much requested by the market. MTV is a modular and versatile vehicle platform, common base for all its variants, both protected and unprotected. This high-performance vehicle efficiently adapts to a variety of users: Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Special Operations Units and Military Police.

The common elements of the different variants are the 6-cylinders 6.7 liters Diesel engine, able to reach 207 kW of power and 1000 Nm of torque, the automated transmission and the permanent 4×4 wheel-drive with 3 fully lockable differentials and high and low gears. Protection is a fundamental feature as well: Iveco Defense Vehicles has made use of its deep expertise gained with LMV and MPV platforms. MTV variants, short and long cab and monocoque, are manufactured from ballistic steel and benefit from an add-on steel protection kit, which increases the ballistic and blast protection levels.

In terms of crew transportation, the Soft-Top and Hard-Top versions can accommodate a team of 2+2. The Pick-up can accommodate a crew of 2. The Casualty transport can accommodate a crew of 2+2 lying or 2+4 sitting casualties. The Military Police / Air Force Security Vehicle can accommodate a crew of 2+6. Moreover, MTV benefits from the latest digital systems, with CANBUS J1939, ready for C4I systems, in combination with EMI/EMC according to standards MIL-STD 461 and AECTP 500.

The MTV platform has been selected by the Dutch Ministry of Defence for the “DVOW 12kN and RCWS”, that foresees the procurement of 12kN vehicles, 120 of them fitted with a Remotely Controlled Weapon Station. This project has by far been the biggest procurement plan in Europe for multirole vehicles over the last 10 years, both in terms of budget and number of vehicles. On November 28th, 2019, Iveco Defense Vehicles signed the contract with the Dutch Ministry of Defence to initially provide 918 medium multirole protected vehicles. In December 2020, an additional batch of 267 vehicles has been ordered by the Dutch MoD increasing the fleet to a total of 1185 units.

SUPERAV Land: Iveco Defense Vehicles has a long-standing tradition of excellence in developing wheeled armored platforms that dates back to the 1930s, when the plant was established in Bolzano, Northern Italy. Since then, the company has developed several 4×4 armored vehicles for the Italian Army, but the most significant experience comes from the development of the Centauro 8×8 armored fighting vehicle and its successor, the Centauro2.

The new SUPERAV Land 8×8 armored vehicle represents a new era for the evolution of the company’s land platforms. The suspended interior seat structure can host up to 8 troops while the positions for the crew are 3. Thanks to an ideal combination of power, protection and payload, SUPERAV Land guarantees improved survivability against KE-threats, mines as well as IEDs and force protection over currently fielded systems. Its modular reinforced roof is designed to maximize compatibility with different unmanned turrets allowing uncompromised protection for the team and ensuring higher internal volumes and ergonomics. Nonetheless, SUPERAV Land is designed to accommodate extensive Government Furnished Equipment, including turrets, radios, Battery Management System, intercom and Electronic Counter Measures.

The vehicle is extremely adaptable to be deployed as APC – Armored Personnel Carrier, CP – Command Post, IFV – Infantry Fighting Vehicle and ARV – Armored Recovery Vehicle variants.

MDT Chassis Systems were designed for sports and tactical shooting. However over the years we found that our chassis were often used in hunting, especially our lighter chassis such as our LSS Chassis system. But we had never purpose-built a chassis system solely for hunting, until now..

The MDT HNT26 Chassis System is our first truly purpose built hunting chassis. This legendary hunting chassis provides you with all of the usual benefits that you expect from a rifle chassis such as v-block bedding, LOP and comb adjustment, AICS magazine compatibility etc, but weighs in starting at a mere 26oz (for our standard fixed version).

The MDT HNT26 Chassis is constructed of a magnesium alloy base, with a carbon fiber forend, a carbon fiber grip and a foam filled carbon fiber buttstock. The Netherlands Ministry of Defense placed an order for a drone system within the Mine Countermeasures capability replacement of the Royal Netherlands Navy

Belgium Naval & Robotics – Naval Group and ECA GROUP consortium – announces today a contract award from the Defense Material Organization (DMO) of the Ministry of Defense of the Netherlands worth over 20 million euros. Complementary to and anticipating the deliveries of 6 mine hunters and associated drone systems within the Belgian-Dutch Mine Countermeasures (MCM) capability replacement program, the Netherlands Ministry of Defense awards a new contract to the consortium to provide the Royal Netherlands Navy with unmanned and autonomous systems for their Operational Tests and Evaluation (OT&E) program.

The subsea drone A18-M AUV (autonomous underwater vehicle) for mine detection, which has already been successfully tested within the Sandy Coast exercise in September 2020;
The Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) for mine identification and neutralisation SEASCAN MK2 and K-STER;
A surface naval drone INSPECTOR 90 USV;
A Command and Control (C2) container equipped with mine warfare data center and operating consoles;
An advanced software suite (UMISOFT and SMMD);
A floating dock for Launching and Recovery of the USV;
Launch and Recovery (L&R) systems;
Support equipment including maintenance and storage containers, spares and special tools.

The delivery of the MCM toolbox will start over the next few months and will be completed within 24 months. Throughout the duration of the contract, Belgium Naval & Robotics will support the Royal Netherlands Navy with training, documentation, maintenance and technical support.

Parma Armory Shooting Center Earns NSSF Five-Star Rating

NEWTOWN, Conn. — The National Shooting Sports Foundation^® (NSSF^®), the firearm industry trade association, is pleased to announce that it has awarded Parma Armory Shooting Center its Five-Star rating, NSSF’s highest designation for range excellence.

Located in Parma, Ohio, in Cuyahoga County, Parma Armory Shooting Center is on the southwest edge of the greater Cleveland and attracts a diverse range of customers. The facility is known as the home of the “21 Gun Salute Range”—the world’s largest indoor double-deck gun range.

Parma Armory Shooting Center offers many admirable features under one roof. There is, of course, the 21 Gun Salute Range, which boasts 21 40-foot shooting lanes and digital target control with a wide range of target variation; the intimate 5 Star Gun Range that features five 30-yard lanes; the PASC+V Virtual Gun Range for both basic training (practical) and advanced crime-in-progress training (tactical); and a 3D archery range that allows paper or 3D targets to be shot simultaneously from 5 to 35 yards with compound, traditional or crossbow equipment.

On the retail side, Parma Armory has it all—from firearms to ammunition to accessories. Virtually everything a customer might need is available at the Parma Armory Shooting Center Gun Shop or other independent self-defense specialty shops that occupy the facility. Gunsmithing services are available as well.

The shooting center offers single and family memberships with perks such as a minimum of one free hour of shooting every day for everyone included in the membership plus unlimited hours of shooting whenever a range is available. And Parma Armory Shooting Center will exchange a membership from another range for an equal duration at its facility.

Training and education are big at Parma Armory Shooting Center. A full range of training courses are offered, including CCW classes, NSSF First Shots introduction-to-shooting classes and advanced training, with emphasis on self-defense. Built on a 42” chassis, the 8×50 RangeGuide measures a mere 6.3 inches tall. Even with its small size, it performs big. EOTECH® G43/G45 Magnifiers Now Shipping

Ann Arbor, MI (February 16, 2021) The G43/G45 magnifiers developed by EOTECH® were initially launched to the world at SHOT 2020 and first deliveries were expected to begin in the 2nd quarter. These optics offer vast improvements over the G33 in overall length and eye relief. What wasn’t planned were the three massive hurdles that were dished out in 2020.

First, COVID19’s middle finger to the world forced businesses to go remote, limiting key areas of final development such as product qualification and testing. Also, the pandemic severely disrupted the supply chain process and the ability to receive consistent components. Add to the mix, political and civil unrest, which unfolded during the summer, drove firearm and accessory sales through the roof. As a result, part suppliers struggled to keep up with the demand. As if the dumpster fire wasn’t big enough, L3/Harris provided kerosene in the form of additional production delays and shifts in product focus. Inevitably, L3/Harris pulled development funding altogether to make the company’s year-end bottom line more attractive to their shareholders.

In August 2020, EOTECH was re-born after a well overdue divestiture from big corp. The last five months were spent unscrewing much of the in-place structure and focus. From that, new commitments to product development and customer service became a top priority, and to fix the delayed launch of the magnifiers.

“The new magnifiers are a key component in our product line and provide major benefits to those who use them in tandem with our holographic sights,” said Mark Miller, Product Manager. “It was crucial to get them into production and to our customers but not at the sacrifice of quality and performance. Testing and validation took some time but it ensured the end product was worthy of wearing the EOTECH brand.”
