Hornady Security’s RAPiD® RFID-Enabled Safes Provide Quick and Reliable Access

Grand Island, NE (Oct. 21, 2021) – Stop fumbling with keys; there is better, faster safe access technology. It’s called RFID, and it provides instant access to the safe’s contents with tags uniquely programmed for each safe. Every Hornady Security RAPiD® Safe includes this reliable high-tech system.
An RFID tag acts as the ‘key’ unlocking the safe. When the tag and the safe are close enough to communicate, it reads the unique access code electronically. There’s no need to find a key, register a fingerprint, or remember a combination using touchless RFID technology. Plus, the RFID-enabled device can be programmed to read up to five different tags, opening a world of customization options.
Hornady Security RFID tags include watchbands (located in the buckle), key fobs, and decals; none require batteries to operate. The decals adhere to plastic, glass, metal, wood — nearly any surface such as the back of a phone. RFID is a secure and reliable way to access a safe in a hurry; however, if the tag is not close at hand, RAPiD safes include a keypad as a secondary opening method. Each RAPiD safe also comes with two barrel keys for the ultimate lock-out prevention.
With so many benefits, choosing a RAPiD safe with RFID technology is the clear winner for rapid, reliable access to firearms and other valuables. This technology is built into all Hornady Security RAPiD Safe models.

SIG has published an outstanding suppressor treatise on their blog site; it opens with some interesting background…
“It may be what you’re searching for but the word “silencer” is misleading. In 1909, Hiram P. Maxim received a patent for the first “silent firearm.” His goal was to keep his recreational shooting from disturbing his neighbors. However, he soon realized his new device had many other benefits, including greatly improving his accuracy. Maxim called these devices silencers and even named his company after them, the Maxim Silencer Company. He sold his invention at hardware stores and through the mail for $3.25. Though he stopped producing them in 1934 due to legislation, his design elements are the foundation of every suppressor made today. And while he referred to them as “silencers” the technology has never rendered the blast from a firearm completely silent. Hollywood has perpetuated that myth, unfortunately, scripting sinister villains into movies and television shows as they affix a suppressor to a pistol or rifle then magically eliminate a target while no character within earshot is the wiser.
Rather than encourage stereotypes, many in the firearms industry, including SIG SAUER, have adopted the more appropriate term “suppressor” when discussing Maxim’s invention, as there are more benefits to shooting a suppressed firearm than simply a reduced audio report, including a reduction in felt recoil, muzzle flash and more. All of these benefits have made shooting with suppressors desirable to a wide range of people.”

Milipol 2021: Meprolight presents the Mepro TIGON – a hybrid thermal & red dot sight for both day & night target acquisition
Combining the advantages of uncooled thermal technology with clear, see-through day optics in a single sight, the Mepro TIGON system enables significantly improved operational flexibility
Milipol Paris, 19-22 October, Parc d’Exposition, Stand 5A D067
19th of October 2021 Israel. Meprolight (1990) Ltd. – a member of the SK Group (founded by Mr. Samy Katsav) is a leading manufacturer of electro-optical systems, thermal and night vision equipment, as well as self-illuminated sights for military, law enforcement and civilian applications. The company has completed development of the advanced MIL-STD Mepro TIGON sight. The system integrates the advantages of uncooled thermal imaging technology with those of see-through day optics (“red -dot” sights) in a single product, enabling complete operational flexibility, day and night.
Users in the defense, law enforcement and HLS sectors can benefit from the highly-advanced features of the TIGON, in one, extremely cost-effective solution.
The integrated technology enables operational flexibility for mission success in open terrain, CQB scenarios, densely-vegetated areas – such as jungles – and more. Being compact and lightweight, it reduces weapon-load, improves weapon balance, and simplifies operations compared with similar non-integrated solutions.
For day use, the Mepro TIGON’s large transparent display window and clearly-visible reticle enable rapid target acquisition, with both eyes open. At night, the thermal image projected onto the same display effectively supports spotting and engaging targets in complete darkness and harsh environment conditions, including smoke and dust.
To increase the effective day range of the sight, a tactical magnifier can be fitted behind it, while the digital x2 zoom of its thermal channel may be employed at night.
Additional features and advantages include:
“The Mepro TIGON was developed in direct response to the needs of military, security, and law enforcement users for a sight that both, has high performance capabilities, and, is cost-effective enough to enable large-scale fielding for significantly increasing numbers of night-combat enabled users within forces,” says David Shenhav, S.V.P. Sales & Marketing – Defense, at Meprolight. “It efficiently supports seamless transition between day and night operations combined with changing tactical scenarios, all while subject to harsh environmental and weather conditions.
The system is already in the process of being evaluated by the IDF and introduced to select forces around the world.”

EOTECH’s Compact XPS2™ Holographic Weapon Sight
Ann Arbor, MI (October 19, 2021) – EOTECH’s Holographic Weapon Sight comes in all shapes and sizes. One of the top-selling models is the XPS2, an operator-grade Holographic Weapon Sight built for close-quarter engagements and fast-moving targets. Like all EOTECH® products, the XPS2 is rugged, reliable, and dependable.
At only 3.8-inches long and a mere 9-ounces, shooters love EOTECH’s shortest and lightest HWS sight. The HWS XPS2 is mission-capable and includes a single CR123 lithium battery configuration and compact footprint that leaves ample rail space for rear iron sights or magnifiers.
Choose from one of EOTECH’s many reticles for the XPS2. The most popular reticle is a 68 MOA ring surrounding a 1 MOA center dot, allowing the shooter to quickly pick up and lock on a target. A two-dot reticle adds a second aiming dot that provides an additional aiming point for longer shots. Others include a single 1-MOA dot (no ring) and two reticles for either FN or Sage less lethal launchers. In all EOTECH HWS systems, the reticle is focused at the same plane as the target which aides in rapid target acquisition while reducing eye fatigue.
The non-night-vision compatible XPS2 includes a rich feature-set including a waterproof housing, long battery life, and 20 daylight brightness settings. This battle-tested sight even works if the sight window breaks or becomes partially obstructed. The XPS2 offers peace of mind in high-stress environments and is proudly made in the USA.

Cimarron Firearms CEO Mike Harvey Reveals New Firearm Project
![]()
In the latest Cimarron Originals with Mike Harvey YouTube series, Harvey reveals the initial process of choosing the next Cimarron Firearms project. He introduces his original 1897 Pump Action WWII Trench Gun that will become a Cimarron Original.
Fredericksburg, Texas (October 2021) – If you have ever wondered how a company like Cimarron Firearms, makers of quality replicas of Old West firearms, come up with their next firearm introduction, Mike Harvey, CEO of Cimarron Firearms, lets you in on his little secret in the latest Cimarron Originals with Mike Harvey video on their YouTube Channel.
The first step in developing a new project requires digging through five large firearm safes loaded with approximately 60 historical firearms to find the one unique gun that will become the next Cimarron authentically reproduced replica. Harvey mentions that if he doesn’t find what he is looking for in his company safes, there are about the same amount at home. This initial step, of choosing the actual historic firearm to replicate, is what sets Cimarron apart from the competition. No other company builds replicas with the original details and historic references that Cimarron requires of its manufacturers.
Harvey’s decision for Cimarron’s next project is to build a replica 1897 pump-action Trench Gun based on the 1897 WWII version he owns. The original 1897 Winchester-made shotgun was based on the John Browning-designed 1893 shotgun, and as the next evolution, the 1897 was a more robust version designed for military use. First produced for American soldiers in the 1899 Philippine-American War, it later received the distinction as an effective “trench gun” during the first World War.
World War l, known for its horrendous trench warfare, was where the 1897 became synonymously known as the “trench sweeper.” The 20” barrel and the ability to rapidly fire the five-round mag made the shotgun the ultimate close combat weapon and was so feared by the German Army, they had tried to have it banned. Between 1897 and 1957 over one million shotguns were produced and used mainly by the military, law enforcement, and American security companies.
With the decision to replicate this very popular defensive shotgun, Harvey’s company, Cimarron Firearms, will be the only importer and distributor of this iconic self-defense shotgun. As part of the new product process, Harvey will have several decisions to consider on the 1897 shotgun, including whether to build it as a take-down or solid frame. Watch the video and leave your opinion.

Swagger Bipods: Bipod Techniques in the Deer Stand
![]()
Grand Island, NE (October 19, 2021) – The excitement of deer hunting can be incredibly intense – which is, of course, why it’s so popular. It’s also an excellent reason for hunters to take a good solid rest for their firearm or crossbow because “the whitetail shakes” are real, and adrenaline can turn the toughest guy or gal into a quivering mass of jelly. Not to mention that we owe it to the game we pursue to give them our best shots by making every effort to be as steady as possible before we let the arrow or bullet fly. Swagger Bipods are some of the best and most flexible tools available to help hunters stay steady and get that critical job done right.
In a box stand or blind, a hunter may have a shelf or other surface where a shorter bipod such as the Swagger SEA12 (Extreme Angle) or SFR10 QD (Flex to Rigid, Quick Detach) will serve with distinction. In such cases, a hunter should spend some time to get the bipod set at a comfortable height (both are easily adjustable) that will allow supported shots in any direction. The SFR10 will even enable one to adjust the flex joint tension to make it stiffer (or even rigid) for serious steadiness. Hunters should take the time to practice getting behind the weapon with the bipod supporting it and making sure they are entirely ready to make a shot from any angle at a moment’s notice.
In a pop-up blind, things are different because the soft sides of the structure generally don’t offer much in the way of support. Hunters should provide separate support for their long guns or crossbows, such as the Swagger Stalker QD42 bipod or the Swagger Hunter42. These models offer lengths ideal for shooting from a seated or kneeling position. Again, each hunter should take some time to become familiar with the bipod and its special features. Hunters should experiment with ways to support the stock’s butt on or near the shoulder as the bipod supports the front end so that when an opportunity presents itself, a perfectly placed shot takes mere seconds.
Even hunters in ladder, hang-on or climbing stands can benefit from the use of a bipod. Longer bipods can be a great choice for this, and the Swagger Stalker QD42 is ideal for most stand hunting thanks to its extreme adjustability, with a most effective length range of 12 to 42 inches. Not only does the Swagger Stalker QD42 have great range, it can also be placed on rifles, crossbows, muzzleloaders and many shotguns with the shotgun adapter. Hunters who try a Swagger bipod in a traditional hunting stand may be surprised at how much accuracy can be gained.
The steady support of a quality bipod allows hunters to make well-placed, ethical shots in a timely manner, and it’s unlikely they’ll find any better choice than Swagger. Anyone who’s examined a Swagger Bipod can immediately recognize the quality and engineering that goes into each model. Regardless of whether you hunt from the ground or aloft, in blinds or open hunting stands, there’s a Lifetime-Guaranteed Swagger Bipod to serve your needs.

Greater Miami Campaign Targets Illegal Gun Purchases
NSSF, ATF, DOJ Emphasize ‘Don’t Lie for the Other Guy’

MIAMI, Fla. – As part of an ongoing national effort to help prevent illegal “straw” purchases of firearms, the National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) are reminding the greater Miami area public that stiff penalties are in place for individuals convicted of such unlawful purchases. The campaign is in its 21st year and is a cornerstone of the cooperative relationship of the firearm industry, law enforcement and retailers.
Billboard, radio, streaming audio and digital advertisements for the Don’t Lie for the Other GuyTM program have been purchased by NSSF in key locations throughout the region with the message: “Buy a gun for someone who can’t and buy yourself 10 years in jail. Don’t Lie for the Other Guy.”
The month-long public awareness campaign was officially launched today with a press conference program at Bass Pro Shops at Miami’s Dolphin Mall. Present at the event were representatives of the ATF Miami Field Division, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida and NSSF.
The Miami area “Don’t Lie” includes more than 64 outdoor billboards, digital bulletin boards and posters. There are also more than 152 radio spots playing and 750,000 digital streaming radio service impressions. On social media, “Don’t Lie” advertisements total nearly 2.4 million targeted geofenced online mobile advertisements and 1 million Facebook and Instagram impressions. Miami was chosen for this special campaign by ATF. No taxpayer dollars are used. The program is funded in full by the firearm industry.
“The firearm industry has always been focused on keeping firearms out of the hands of those who should not possess them. We are proud of our more than two-decade cooperative relationship with the ATF, the DOJ and the entire law enforcement community to assist them in their collective efforts to reduce criminal acquisition and misuse of firearms,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF President and CEO.
“Don’t Lie” is a cooperative program between ATF, DOJ and NSSF, the trade association for the firearm and ammunition industry. The effort was developed more than a two decades ago to raise public awareness about the seriousness of the crime of purchasing a firearm for someone who cannot legally do so. The program also helps ATF educate firearm retailers to be better prepared to deter potential straw purchases. The public campaign drives home the message that anyone attempting an illegal firearm purchase faces a stiff federal felony penalty of up to 10 years in jail or up to $250,000 in fines.
To legally purchase a firearm, a person must be able to pass an FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check System check, or NICS check, and fully comply with all state and local laws. When a criminal knows he or she cannot pass this check, they may try to induce a friend or other person to make the purchase on their behalf. This is known as a straw purchase and is a felony.
This public awareness campaign constitutes only part of the Don’t Lie for the Other Guy outreach effort. The full Don’t Lie for the Other Guy program, which also involves educating firearm retailers to better detect and prevent straw purchases, has been rolled out in major cities throughout the country. In the retailer segment, federal firearms licensees are provided a Don’t Lie for the Other Guy retailer kit containing a training video and informational brochure for storeowners and staff, as well as point-of-purchase displays aimed to deter illegal straw purchases.

Washington, D.C. (October 19, 2021) – During its 50-year history, Safari Club International has been the leader in defending the freedom to hunt through advocacy efforts around the world. The organization’s accomplishments have been praised by world leaders and impacted generations of hunters worldwide.
It all started in 1971 when lifelong hunter C.J. McElroy launched a local California hunting club called the “Safari Club” to expand his love of the sport. As the club’s leader, McElroy began consolidating other similar clubs and Safari Club International was born a year later.
SCI rapidly expanded with chapters across the country and in Europe, opening their first overseas chapter in Spain. Within ten years, they had a significant cultural and legislative impact. SCI went on to launch hunting education programs like the American Wilderness Leadership School and supported pro-hunting candidates to protect hunting rights.
By 1980, SCI had already represented the United States in discussing and drafting international agreements, successfully campaigned for dozens of political candidates through the SCI Government Affairs Committee and met with President Jimmy Carter to discuss the Endangered Species Act.
SCI continued its momentous pace for the remainder of the 20th Century. In 1994, SCI’s work resulted in a major legislative victory with the amending of the Marine Mammal Protection Act, which allowed U.S. hunters to import legally taken Canadian polar bear trophies.
In 2001, SCI formed the Safari Club International Foundation to ensure the future of wildlife by researching, designing, and promoting conservation efforts. Since launching, the organization has been granted consultative status by the United Nations.
Then, in 2008, SCI began a concerted effort to address legal issues by launching the Wildlife Law Course for lawyers interested in conservation law. The course brought in legal experts and scholars to discuss policies that shape hunting and wildlife management. One of the earliest speakers was the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
Within two years, SCI attorneys were already influencing the outcome of Supreme Court cases. In the 2010 SCOTUS case U.S. v Stevens, the high court agreed with SCI’s position and specifically cited their amicus brief. SCI argued that the federal law, which criminalized depictions of animal cruelty, was so broadly written that it could outlaw legal hunting activities. The Supreme Court struck down the law in an 8-1 vote.
In 2017, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke invited several SCI officials and members to join the newly created International Wildlife Conservation Council, an official advisory group to advise the federal government on anti-poaching programs, wildlife trafficking and to increase awareness of conservation and economic benefits of hunting.
The 2020’s have seen SCI take their grassroots prowess to new heights. With the launch of the Hunter Action Advocacy Center (HAAC) in late 2019, SCI has educated and empowered an enormous grassroots army to push elected officials locally, federally and internationally to stand up for hunting and the myriad benefits it provides for conservation. Notable accomplishments of advocates using the HAAC have been ensuring expansion of hunting and fishing opportunities on federal lands, the opening of Sunday hunting in Pennsylvania, defeating trophy bans across the nation, forcing the withdrawal of bad Biden nominees and the signing into law of the Great American Outdoors Act.
SCI continues to be the leader in hunting advocacy around the world and is always First for Hunters.
Celebrate SCI’s 50-year history at the SCI annual convention at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on Jan. 19-22, 2022. Registration is open now at www.safariclub.org/convention.

AeroVironment Successfully Demonstrates Maritime Sensor-To-Shooter Capability with Puma 3 AE and Switchblade 300 at NATO REP(MUS) 21 Experimentation Exercise
• Experimentation was part of NATO REP(MUS) 21 U.S./U.K. Interoperability to Interchangeability (I2I) initiatives using uncrewed systems
• First successful cross-domain, multi-national and I2I-enabled maritime sensor-to-shooter (S2S) demonstration of Puma 3 AE small unmanned aircraft system and Switchblade 300 tactical missile system
• Demonstrated the interoperability potential of multiple Command and Control Systems/Common Control Systems (CCS) to pass missions, C2 authority, and ISR/targeting data, enabling U.S. and U.K. common mission planning and execution systems in coordinated mission profiles
• International debut of the Precision Recovery System (PRS), which supported Puma 3 AE’s continuous mission taskings with a quick turnaround recover/launch capability using an automated net landing capability on an underway U.S. Navy ship
ARLINGTON, Va., Oct. 18, 2021 – AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV), a global leader in intelligent, multi-domain robotic systems, today announced the successful maritime demonstration of a Puma™ 3 AE small unmanned aircraft system and Switchblade® 300 tactical missile system sensor-to-shooter (S2S) capability as part of NATO REP(MUS) 21, Europe’s largest maritime unmanned systems operational experimentation exercise, hosted at the Portuguese Navy Centre for Operational Experimentation held in Troia, Portugal in September. The experimentation was part of a United States/United Kingdom Interoperability to Interchangeability (I2I) initiative using unmanned/uncrewed systems.
A key component of the exercise was demonstrating the interoperability of multiple U.S./U.K. control system capabilities to facilitate the transfer through the Puma 3 AE comm relay connection of tactical control and planning tasks of interchangeable, cross-domain assets. This successful demonstration was the result of combined and coordinated efforts of coalition and industry partnerships including the Naval Information Warfare Center’s C-SCAPE Common Control System (CCS), the Naval Undersea Warfare Center’s CaSHMI system, U.K. Ministry of Defense’s MAPLE command and control system, AeroVironment’s Crysalis™ ground control system (GCS) connected to the varied control systems utilizing a new STANAG 4586 Level 4 interface, unmanned/uncrewed surface vehicles, unmanned underwater vehicles and manned surface ships from additional NATO allies. The U.S. delegation was led by NAVSEA’s Program Executive Office for Unmanned and Small Combatants.
Launched from the USNS Carson City, Puma 3 AE UAS served as an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) and targeting asset during the S2S exercise. Post launch, control of the Puma 3 AE was transferred to C-SCAPE, which was acting as the CCS on the USNS Carson City for this mission segment. Using its high-resolution Mantis i45 payload, the Puma 3 AE was used by military operators from the Maritime Operations Center (MOC), located in Troia, to positively identify the moving exercise target of interest. The target location was then digitally transferred from Puma 3 AE to a Switchblade 300 via S2S prior to its launch. The S2S functionality was witnessed by U.S. Navy personnel only.
As a demonstration of interchangeability, Switchblade 300 was then launched from a U.K. unmanned/uncrewed surface vessel (USV), the Maritime Autonomy Demonstrator for Operational eXperimentation (MADFOX), and automatically flew to the fast-moving target using the coordinates provided. Once the target was in the field of view of Switchblade 300’s optical sensors, the Switchblade 300 mission operator confirmed the target and engaged. During final target approach, Switchblade 300 was waved off just prior to actual engagement of the exercise target to effectively display its patented wave-off capability. Once the exercise was completed, the Puma 3 AE was autonomously recovered back onboard the USNS Carson City via the Precision Recovery System (PRS) demonstrator while the ship remained underway and on course.
“The system launch from MADFOX was a U.K. first, demonstrating the potential of USVs for lethal and other payloads; crucially, the whole serial was commanded, enabled and facilitated using information provided by uncrewed systems. It is a significant step for I2I, the sensor-to-shooter capability and interoperability,” said Commander Antony Crabb, Royal Navy, NavyX Experimentation Team Leader.
“This demonstration proved AeroVironment’s sensor-to-shooter solution dramatically elevates operator situational awareness, reduces engagement timelines and reduces the chances of mis-targeting,” said Charles Dean, AeroVironment vice president for global business development and sales of UAS. “It also deemed relaying missions and surveillance data between U.K. and U.S. planning systems as effective and successful and demonstrated the maturity of Puma 3 AE’s capabilities for broad naval adoption.”
Dean added, “Particularly, the new STANAG 4586 Level 4 compliant interface for Crysalis GCS to connect AeroVironment SUAS with large naval vessel Tactical Control Systems and the Puma 3 AE Precision Recovery System, allowing autonomous aircraft recovery for larger vessels while continuously underway.”
Subsequent REP(MUS) 21 demonstrations connected the U.K.’s MAPLE command and control system to an airborne Puma 3 AE, allowing full control of both the aircraft and its i45 payload as MAPLE commanded. Both Puma 3 AE and Switchblade 300 flight operations regularly involved aircraft handoffs between control stations on the USNS Carson City, MADFOX, the Troia beach FOB, and the MOC at Troia base operations.
AeroVironment’s participation and contributing fielded Puma 3 AE and Switchblade 300 systems impacted the exercise greatly by enabling both U.S. and U.K. control systems to interact through comm relay STANAG 4856 compatibility, cross-domain unmanned capability C2 networking over-the-horizon and combined coalition S2S unmanned/uncrewed response to fast attack threats.

Arnold Punaro, board chairman of the National Defense Industrial Association, offers the following statement on the passing of retired Army Gen. Colin Powell:
“Today, our nation mourns the loss of Gen. Colin Powell, a truly legendary and inspirational leader. In uniform, in government and in industry, he was a role model for the ages. His wisdom and counsel have been sought after by leaders from both sides of the aisle as well as the world, and his expertise and leadership will be greatly missed.
“I am immensely fortunate to have first met Powell in the 1970s when he was an Army colonel. I worked with him throughout his career during my time on the Senate Armed Services Committee. Powell fully respected the role of Congress in decisions related to national security and always worked in a cooperative fashion with the defense and foreign policy committees. He would go on to serve as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as National Security Adviser and as Secretary of State, among numerous accomplishments in his storied career.
Powell always put country over politics and service over self. Today’s leaders — in uniform and in the civilian world — should follow the examples that Powell had set.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends today.”
