Second Quarter Fiscal 2022 Financial Highlights

  • Net sales were $230.5 million, a decrease of $18.3 million, or 7.3%, from the comparable quarter last year.
  • Gross margin was 44.3%, compared with 40.6% for the comparable quarter last year.
  • Quarterly GAAP net income was $50.9 million, or $1.05 per diluted share, compared with $49.1 million, or $0.87 per diluted share, for the comparable quarter last year.
  • Quarterly non-GAAP net income was $55.3 million, or $1.13 per diluted share, compared with $52.8 million, or $0.93 per diluted share, for the comparable quarter last year. GAAP to non-GAAP adjustments for income exclude costs related to the planned relocation of our headquarters and certain manufacturing and distribution operations to Tennessee, the spin-off of the outdoor products and accessories business in fiscal 2021, COVID-19 related expenses, and other costs. I hope you’ve all had a fantastic Thanksgiving and were not overwhelmed by the table talk. This is a great time of the year, even with COVID hanging around our necks. We now have a new variant designated Omicron by the World Health Organization but don’t let it get you down or add to your anxiety. That anxiety can lead to some peculiar behaviors, for example…

The way to deal with COVID anxiety is to get your vaccine and booster jabs. There’s all kinds of misinformation flying around about the vaccine, which is being process by people as the vaccine is dangerous . Here’s the accurate and succinct correct interpretation: the vaccine does not prevent you from contracting COVID it protects you from becoming severely ill; possibly succumbing to COVID. You’ll hear about adverse reactions, but rest assured that some people have adverse reactions to Tylenol, and other off the shelf meds, so don’t run out to seek psychological help; instead schedule a shoot the shit . Remember that a therapist is a jackass who majored in psychology so they could understand themselves. So, what’s a shoot the shit?

A shoot the shit is a social interaction during which any topic can be discussed. The participants don’t need to know anything about the topic, they’re free to make any unsupported comment, speak in uncensored profanity, insult anyone the wish or change the subject altogether. So, let’s shoot the shit.

I have a personal interest in the Climate phobia and the clean energy extravaganza. In past shoot the shits, I’ve expressed my belief that Congress legislates via anal extraction. Seriously, think about it. Who, with a measurable I.Q. would transition from fossil fuel power generation, which is producing electric energy 24 x 7, to wind and solar sources that are lower output and don’t operate continuously?

Now, try this one out for size. In-between his maternity leave, Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, while discussing gasoline’s rising prices says to the interviewer that when people transition to electric vehicles they’ll never have to deal with high gas prices. Secretary Buttigieg has no idea that annual sales of automobiles, light trucks and SUV are 17 million units per year. In 2019 there were 276 million vehicles registered in the U.S. Now, imagine that all those vehicles are now electric. Can you imagine the magnitude of that load on the power grid. Maybe he thinks charging vehicle batteries can be done by farting into a tank.

Further more, why are gas prices rising? Because there’s a lower supply of oil, so can you imagine what phasing out fossil fuels will do to national power generation and the cost of electricity.

Think about it folks, it’s remarkable.

A variation of CZ-USA’s very popular CZ Shadow 2 pistol, currently in use in USPSA & IPSC Production Division events, in a nod to previous premium CZ-USA products the Shadow 2 Orange features new aluminum grip panels finished in snappy-looking orange. The improvements in this Shadow model go well beyond coloring.

The trigger, hammer, and sear of the CZ Shadow 2 Orange are hand-fitted for exacting precision, shot after shot. The barrel is polished and sports a new bushing to improve accuracy. The trigger is tuned for a smooth, crisp release and offers a short reset.

Also, the CZ Shadow 2 Orange is equipped with a competition hammer and an adjustable aluminum magazine release catch. The magazines have matching orange aluminum basepads and the gun features an extended safety. A set of flat safeties and a flat slide stop can be purchased separately. 

Like the original Shadow 2, the CZ Shadow 2 Orange sports aggressive checking on the aluminum grips for a solid hold, even when the shooter’s hands are dirty and sweaty from running stages. The front and backstrap are nicely checkered, too.

Shooters get on target fast thanks to the pistol’s fiber-optic front sight paired with a serrated, black HAJO rear (click adjustable for elevation, drift adjustable for windage). The higher beavertail and undercut trigger guard provide additional stability, and the swappable magazine release has an adjustable, extended button with three settings.

ANOKA, Minnesota – December 1, 2021 – Team Federal sponsored shooters finished strong at the recent 2021 Fort Benning Multigun Challenge in Fort Benning Georgia. Every fall, the U.S. Army hosts this event at the fort’s recreational shooting complex. Federal supported this year’s match as a Gold Sponsor. Team Federal shooters Tucker Schmidt, Alysia Burrows and Todd Jarrett all performed well among the 234 shooters on hand. Schmidt earning a second-place finish for the match shooting in the Open division, Burrows with second place in the Tac Ops division for the Ladies’ category, and Jarrett finishing in eighth place for the Tac Ops division also earning “Top Senior” for the match.

“Congratulations to all our shooters at this match. The Army Marksmanship Unit are famous for running fun, innovative matches. From all I’ve heard, this one was no exception,” said Federal Ammunition Shooting Sports Promotions Manager Jason Spradling. “Our Team Federal shooters always do a great job representing our brand and I’m proud of their achievements this weekend.”

“It was a close and heated competition. It came down to the very last stage and it didn’t go my way. I’ll be working hard to come back next year and get the win,” said Schmidt. “My go-to ammo is The Federal Gold Medal line of shotgun and precision rifle ammo, as well as the American Eagle 55-grain for the go-fast rifle portions.”

“In a stiff competition environment like Benning, there really isn’t any margin for error. AUSTIN, TX (AGirlandAGun.org) — A Girl & A Gun Women’s Shooting League (AG & AG) announces its official partnership with the United States Concealed Carry Association (USCCA). The agreement aligns USCCA — a leading provider of firearms training and education — with AG & AG, the nation’s premier women’s organization.

“For the past several years, we have encouraged our Chapter Facilitators to earn their USCCA instructor credentials. We have many instructors in our organization who have seized the opportunity — and now we have fourteen more,” said Robyn Sandoval, Executive Director of AG & AG.

Sandoval was one of fourteen AG & AG instructors from nine different states who recently traveled to West Bend, WI, to become certified to present the USCCA Concealed Carry & Home Defense Fundamentals coursework. By successfully completing the course, the instructors may use the materials to educate the growing numbers of enthusiastic gun owners in their home communities. AG & AG has scheduled three additional USCCA instructor-level courses, as well as dozens of student-level courses, throughout 2022.

Nevada Judge Announces After Hearing That He Will Strike Down Major Portions of New Nevada Gun Law on Constitutional Due Process Grounds in Major Victory for Polymer80, Inc.

DAYTON, Nev. (Dec. 1, 2021) — On November 23, 2021, in a huge victory for both Polymer80 and the Second Amendment in Nevada, the Hon. Judge John P. Schlegelmilch of the Lyon County, Nevada District Court stated he would be issuing summary judgment in favor of Polymer80, Inc., in their lawsuit against Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak, Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford, George Togliatti, Director of the Nevada Department of Public Safety, and Mindy McKay, Administrator of the Records, Communications, and Compliance Division of the Nevada Department of Public Safety. The judgment would invalidate and bar enforcement of major portions of Nevada Assembly Bill 286, on due process grounds under the Nevada state constitution.

Assemblywoman Sandra Jauregui (D-Las Vegas) sponsored AB286 which passed on straight-party line votes in both the Nevada Assembly and Senate. Gov. Sisolak, a democrat signed AB286 into law in early June 2021. AB286 generally prohibits a person from possessing, purchasing, transporting or receiving any unfinished frame or receiver of a firearm, or assembling any firearm not imprinted with a serial number. Initial violations carry a criminal misdemeanor penalty; repeat violations can be punished by a felony charge.
In deciding to issue summary judgment, Judge Schlegelmilch held that a trial was not needed, and that Polymer80 was immediately entitled to both a Declaratory Judgment that AB286 was unduly and unconstitutionally void for vagueness, and a Permanent Injunction forever banning enforcement of key provisions in the new enactment for that reason. Judge Schlegelmilch, who upon Polymer80’s motion had preliminarily prevented enforcement of those provisions in July 2021, specifically found that Sections 3 and 3.5 of AB286 were unconstitutionally ambiguous in their language criminalizing, among other things, the possession, sale, transfer, transport, and manufacture of “unfinished frames or receivers.” Polymer80 had argued that this said criminalization would threaten its very existence. In that respect, the Court further found that the definition of an “unfinished frame or receiver” incorporated in those two Sections was exceedingly and unconstitutionally vague in its use and reliance upon various terms including, among others, “blank,” “casting,” and “machined body” that were undefined in the statute and did not have accepted common meanings.
In addition, the Court determined that the additional required component of the definition of “unfinished frame or receiver” mandating that a blank, casting, or machined body have reached such a stage of formation that “most of the major machining operations” needed to turn those items into a firearm had been completed was fatally vague and ambiguous. The Court ruled that those terms, alone and together, were so unclear and uncertain that they did not provide fair notice to a Nevadan of ordinary intelligence as to what specific conduct AB286 prohibited, rendering the bill unconstitutional under the Due Process Clause of the Nevada Constitution. The Court also ruled that those vague terms encouraged and effectively authorized arbitrary and discriminatory enforcement against all Nevadans, in that AB286 left the interpretation and application of those nebulous terms entirely to the discretion of governmental authorities, which Nevada Supreme Court decisions have precluded. Finally, Judge Schlegelmilch indicated that he would be issuing a formal written Order in December 2021, encapsulating and memorializing his oral rulings, declaring the cited provisions of AB286 unconstitutionally vague, and barring their enforcement permanently.

The gun refers to the Greek mythology when Pandora illegally opened the box given to her and evil came upon mankind. The representation on the pistol is a modification of the historical event of the Corona Pandemic of 2020-2021. Pandora has been hand-engraved in silver. She opens the box in China and from there the virus moves across the continents and spreads fear and death. The inlays are made of 999 silver / 24 carat gold and have been inlaid in the pistol. The box for this pistol was made by hand from solid cherry with metal exposed panels. The artwork is based on a model titled, “Hell Consuming Man.”

Fort Worth, Texas (November 30, 2021) – A stand-alone knife is always better than a multi-tool. What about a stand-alone knife that has had some additions? When the primary purpose of a tool is for cutting, and it retains that foundation, adding some extras can carry a user far beyond standard capabilities. TRUE Knives releases their SmartKnife+. It’s a small pocket knife that has been augmented to add some additional uses. Whether a user actually employs these additions, doesn’t take away from the original function of being a knife. This knife houses a bottle opener, a .25” bit driver with a Phillips bit included in the magnetic bit storage, three flathead screwdrivers, 6mm-14mm wrenches, wire strippers, a pry bar, a 2” inch ruler, and a 5cm ruler. All of this is housed in the high-grade stainless-steel frame. This has a true multi-tool capability.

The 2.375” partially-serrated blade is 420 stainless steel with a black oxide coating, more than enough for daily tasks. This steel material is easy to sharpen and will offer some serious rust prevention. When folded, the flipper acts as a flathead screwdriver or small prying tool, while the opposite is a bottle opener. On the butt of the knife is a small pry bar and two additional flat head screwdrivers. Just above the pry bar is the .25” bit storage. The .25” bit driver is accessible at the top of the handle when the knife is closed. In the middle of the handle are a series of metric wrenches that can cover most tasks, and, on the sides, a 2” ruler, a 5cm ruler, and a file are featured.

This knife is, at its core, a knife with extra features. ARLINGTON, VA — Arnold Punaro, board chairman of the National Defense Industrial Association, offers the following statement on the Nov. 30 nomination of Dr. William LaPlante as undersecretary of Defense for acquisition and sustainment:

Today, President Joe Biden made the superb choice of nominating Dr. Bill LaPlante to be the undersecretary of Defense for acquisition and sustainment. LaPlante has a wealth of experience in government service and the responsibilities of this position. We urge his speedy confirmation.

LaPlante previously served in numerous Defense Department positions, including as the top acquisition official for the Air Force. His contributions to the Defense Science Board have been vital throughout the years. He has had a stellar career in the private sector at the MITRE Corporation and at Draper Laboratory. His decades of knowledge and experience will help him to push the Pentagon and industry to get more bang for the buck for our warfighters and taxpayers.

LaPlante will work well with Heidi Shyu, the undersecretary of Defense for research and engineering. It is essential that these two offices ensure emerging technologies are converted into usable systems for our warfighters in a timely and cost-effective manner.

LaPlante is well known to the Senate Armed Services Committee and should have no trouble with the confirmation process. The SASC has precedents for a thorough but accelerated consideration, and I urge the SASC and Senate to get him confirmed and on board before their Christmas recess.

The Senate should also work swiftly to confirm the other acquisition officials on the calendar: Andrew Hunter, Doug Bush and Gabe Camarillo. These positions are responsible for decisions related to the more than $400 billion the Defense Department spends each year on goods and services, supplies and equipment. Getting these well-qualified nominees in place is vital.”

Background Checks Top 687,000 During Black Friday ‘Week’

This year has already been shaping up to be the second strongest year for firearm sales on record, second only to 2020’s record-breaking number of 21 million background checks for a firearm sale.

Background Checks Top 687,000 During Black Friday ‘Week’

NEWTOWN, Conn. — The National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the firearm industry trade association, revealed that the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) processed 687,788 background checks during the week leading up to and including Black Friday. FBI’s NICS recorded 187,585 on Black Friday alone, ranking it among the Top 10 Highest Days for NICS checks and a .50 percent increase from Black Friday 2020 (186,645). The NICS checks are unadjusted, representing raw data from the FBI and are inclusive of all background checks related to firearms.

NSSF has worked with firearm retailers to spread out special sales offers to customers throughout the week leading up to Black Friday so as not to overwhelm FBI NICS on Black Friday which can result in longer than normal wait times.

“This figure of over 687,000 background checks is truly remarkable,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF President and CEO. “This year has already been shaping up to be the second strongest year for firearm sales on record, second only to 2020’s record-breaking number of 21 million background checks for a firearm sale. We anticipate, based on annual data, that firearm sales will rise during the final month of the year coinciding with hunting seasons and holiday sales. This figure, though, underscores the appetite for lawful firearm ownership in America and the resilience of the firearm and ammunition industry to meet that demand.”

What stood out to us?

After weeks of comparison to other top tier optics, here’s some thoughts:

Insane elevation travel.  Over 140MOA!
Excellent glass, giving up nothing to any optic

Glass is subjective.  Maybe you like the brightness of a Tangent or Schmidt, the contrast and saturation of a ZCO, etc.  The Zeiss has fantastic resolution and vibrant colors.  See pics below.

Perfectly tactile turrets, satisfying resistance with “More Tactile Clicks” every MIL.  Very easy to dial even without looking.
Bar none, the best illumination we’ve seen.  Blindingly bright if desired with very little bleed, and infinitely adjustable.  Pic below.
Big and beefy.  This is not a lightweight, hunting oriented optic.  It’s unapologetically large with every feature a pleasure to grasp and turn.

Anyone can say something is nice, let’s get to pics

2000 yard view at 25x, under spotty sun.  Notice the lack of an odd color mixing at the edge of trees and horizon.  This would be called “chromatic aberration” and you will find this to be noticeable on some optics well over $3000, however the Zeiss LRP S5 does a great job with hard color borders, and color reproduction.

650 yard view vs bovine.  Notice how the illuminated reticle is bright under spotty sun, the parallax is forgiving and the cattle trough several hundred yards in front is still crisp, and how the blue frame of the black trough stands out.

400 yards, bright sun, looking into a dark building.  Note once again the accurate color reproduction vs those outside the field-of-view, lack of chromatic aberration, and forgiving focus via objects in front and behind of the tin roof.

From November 29 – December 1, 2021, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems will participate in EXPODEFENSA 2021 in Bogota, Columbia. During the exhibition, Rafael will present a range of cutting-edge, combat proven elements of its advanced aerial defense array, aircraft solutions, and communications technologies. With an emphasis on assuring air-superiority Rafael’s showcase will include world-leading air-to-air and air-to-surface missile systems as well as reconnaissance and targeting pods like LITENING and RECCELITE which are among the several solutions already adopted by and successfully integrated onto operational platforms around the world.

Throughout the week, Rafael will also display the following array of systems:

SPYDER Air Defense System is a family of air defense systems incorporating Rafael’s advanced Python-5 and I-Derby missiles to provide short, medium, and long-range protection.

HELICOPTER ARMAMENT UPGRADE is an air-launched element of the SPIKE Missile Family that transforms helicopters into powerful force multipliers. This upgrade enables ultra-long stand-off ranges as well as enhanced lethality ‒ in a relatively lightweight package to extend mission endurance. Rafael is actively involved in upgrading the military services in the area which is clearly seen through the successful upgrade of the Columbian Arpia Helicopter.

ADVANCED WEAPONS STATION, Rafael’s SAMSON of Family of high-performance remote-control weapon stations (RWS) have been adapted worldwide to a broad range of tracked and wheeled platforms and accommodate diverse weapons, turret and sensors for customers.

In October 2021, Rafael unveiled BNET Nano, a new variant small enough to fit within the palm of your hand.
