Kansas City, KS (February 16, 2022) – CZ-USA is proud to introduce two new affordable side-by-side purpose-built double guns. Both are an extension of the popular Bobwhite G2 shotgun line: the Bobwhite G2 Intermediate, with dimensions that are a little more compact, and the Bobwhite G2 Southpaw, designed for left-handed shotgunners.

Left-handed shooters always face difficulties when shooting guns cast for right-handed people, but there is a new double gun option from CZ-USA that will make things a bit easier for lefty shotgunners.

CZ is proud to expand its lefty-friendly offerings with the Bobwhite G2 Southpaw side-by-side. Nearly identical to the standard Bobwhite G2, the Southpaw’s stock is “cast on,” meaning it’s bent in the opposite direction so that it will properly fit when a shooter brings it to their left shoulder.

All other popular Bobwhite G2 features remain, including its CNC’d receiver, double triggers, English-style straight grip, and interchangeable choke tubes. It features 28-inch barrels and includes five flush chokes from Cylinder to Full in 12 or 20 gauge with an incredible price point of $709.

In 2019, CZ introduced its first “intermediate” model at the request of Pheasants Forever, the CZ Quail over/under. In 2021, CZ added another affordable mid-sized double gun, this time in a side-by-side configuration as part of the Bobwhite G2 line. The shorter barrel length and length of pull of the Bobwhite G2 Intermediate provide a better fit for teens and shooters of smaller stature. The shorter overall dimensions make for handling tight spaces like hunting woodcock in the northwoods much easier.

The Bobwhite G2 Intermediate has a 26-inch barrel, two inches shorter than the standard model, and a length of pull that is right at 14 inches. Otherwise, it includes all the great features found on the standard model. The new Bobwhite G2 Intermediate is available in 20 gauge only with a suggested retail price of $709.

NDIA statement on provisions to America COMPETES Act

ARLINGTON, VA — The National Defense Industrial Association offers the following statement on the America COMPETES Act of 2022:

NDIA applauds the House of Representatives for including provisions important to the defense industry in the America COMPETES Act. As House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) described, the bill is to ensure America can “outcompete any nation.”

Similar to the Senate’s bipartisan-supported U.S. Innovation and Competition Act (USICA) of 2021 bill, passed last June, America COMPETES aims to increase semiconductor manufacturing by including $52 billion to make chips. NDIA is among 21 organizations that signed a letter this week<https://www.ndia.org/-/media/sites/press-releases/documents/2022/multi-assn-letter-on-chips-and-fabs-2162022.pdf>, stating it is essential that Congress act swiftly to provide funding to make this law a reality. “Our global competitors are investing heavily in semiconductor manufacturing and research,” the letter states, and continued U.S. inaction “risks placing our country further behind in the competition for economic growth, supply chain resilience, technology leadership and strengthened national security.” The CHIPS Act passed more than a year ago, but the chip shortage continues. We need action now to fortify semiconductor manufacturing and research.

Of equal importance, the House version also includes an amendment to reauthorize the Small Business Innovation Research program (SBIR)/Small Business Technology Transfer program (STTR), expiring at the end of fiscal year 2022.

Reauthorizing the SBIR/STTR program is critical to small-businesses’ ability to develop emerging technologies for America’s economic future and national security. As USICA and America COMPETES are reconciled in the coming weeks, NDIA implores Congress to include reauthorization of SBIR/STTR in the final bill. We ask Congress to take steps to remedy the severe impact chip supply-chain disruptions have on the U.S. manufacturing base and our national security complex.

The legislation in both bills seeks to foster innovation and our competitive advantage, address critical issues in supply-chain resiliency and develop talent in the United States. NDIA supports a bipartisan, bicameral effort to ensure legislation that protects our competitive edge is rapidly signed into law.

SHOT SHOW 2022–KESTREL BALLISTICS

As is always the case, my visit with Kestrel Ballistics at SHOT 2022 was as enjoyable as seeing Katie and the rest of the Kestrel team. This Pennsylvania Company deserves recognition for the level of innovation they’ve brought to the long-range precision shooting sports, and as a notable, at the height of the COVID 19 pandemic the company used its production and engineering expertise to manufacture PPE in service to the country. From a technology perspective, they have integrated ballistics software with their wind meters to provide the shooter with a firing solution to successfully engage targets well beyond one thousand meters. The importance of accurate environmental data in long range target engagements cannot be overestimated and Kestrel is the industry standard.

The company’s 5700 meter and HUD display, combined with the Kestrel Ballistics app is presently in use by armed forces around the world. The meter not only captures environmental data but also stores gun profiles and a very robust ballistic calculator. When paired, via Bluetooth, with the HUD display, it provides the shooter with a visible and continuously updated firing solution. Besides price, one of the key advantages the system has over the Doppler LIDAR technology is that it is passive making detection difficult, if not impossible. Doppler LIDAR can be detected and jammed, and if detected can reveal the shooter’s position. This is a critically important advantage as our military’s focus turns to peer power adversaries.

At this year’s SHOT SHOW, Kestrel Ballistics announced a completely different meter, the KST 1000 shot timer. Shot timers are used in shooting competitions more notably pistol shooting events. The Kestrel shot timer retains the same robustness as the ballistic meters but Kestrel enhanced its acoustic performance so it will detect even a dry fire click, making it a great training tool. It also features a loud and very audible buzzer. Shipping of the KST 1000 should begin in Q1 2022 at an MSRP of just under $300.

NSSF Announces Study on Assessing the Quality and Availability of Hunting and Shooting Access in the United States

With support from an AFWA grant, new research looks at availability, access, issues and current perceptions

NEWTOWN, Conn. — Access to hunting land and to shooting ranges are key indicators affecting the future of hunting and sport shooting. A new study, announced by the National Shooting Sports Foundation®, reports on findings regarding current availability of public and private areas accessible for hunting and sport shooting collected from a nationwide survey that included a trend analysis to see how perceptions have changed over the last decade.

With support from a grant awarded by the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies’ (AFWA) Multistate Conservation Grant program, the report titled “Assessing the Quality and Availability of Hunting and Shooting Access in the United States,” produced by Responsive Management, provides major findings from the surveys reporting on activity locations, factors considered for location selection and factors that affect hunter/shooter enjoyment, access constraints and ratings, information sources for locations and user awareness of programs and resources.

Beyond the survey information reported is a robust recommendations section – 99 of them in all. A recurring message in many of the recommendations is the importance of current information supported by using effective communication, marketing, branding and outreach strategies. These efforts have a clear impact on awareness of, participation in, and satisfaction with access programs/resources, and will increase the success of implemented programs.

Attached to the Assessing the Quality and Availability of Hunting and Shooting Access in the United States report is a Hunting and Shooting Access Inventory Report that includes a national summary total and a one-page report per state. A detailed Excel file reporting all 50 states is also available for download.

SHOT SHOW 2022–FN USA

If you like guns, FN’s exhibit is a can’t miss on your to do list. The company marks its beginnings to 1889 as Fabrique Nationale d’Armes de Guerre when a group of Belgian arms makers got together to build 150,000 Mausers. Over the years, the company has produced firearms like the legendary Hi-Power 9mm pistol, the FN FAL, as well as the more modern M240- and M249-series of crew-served machine guns. FN, Browning and Winchester are all part of the Herstal Group. Industry wide, if it went bang, there’s a very good chance that FN and its designers had something to do with it.

This year, 2022, is a special year in that FN has reintroduced the iconic Hi-Power but they didn’t just duplicate the same design that made you suicidal at the thought of having to field strip it. They kept all of its unique characteristics with significant improvements to make the 2022 offering far more ergonomic, an improved fire control group, and increased magazine capacity. If you’re familiar with the original, you know all too well about its propensity to not cycle reliably or stovepipe with commercial 9mm ammunition, FN zeroed in on those concerns and has improved both accuracy and reliability of its 2022 release. Prospective buyers, you’ll have three flavors to choose from at an M.S.R.P. of $1300.

NSSF Invites Employees of Patron Member Companies to Apply for $50,000 in Education Scholarships

NEWTOWN, Conn. — Employees of companies that support the National Shooting Sports Foundation® at the highest level may apply for education aid through the NSSF® Patron Member Scholarship Program. NSSF has made a total of $50,000 in scholarship funding available this year for a maximum of 25 winning entries.

NSSF is accepting applications in the Patron Member Scholarship Program through 5 p.m. EST on Friday, February 28, 2022.

Scholarships are available only to employees and their family members of Patron Member companies of NSSF. (For specific eligibility, refer to the official guidelines.) The scholarship program is one of a number of benefits that Patron Member companies receive from NSSF, The Firearm Industry Trade Association.

Applicants must be enrolled in, or have been accepted and plan to attend, a college, university or vocational school during the fall 2022 school year. Scholarships are limited to candidates seeking an undergraduate or vocational degree only. The complete rules, applications and scholarship posters are available on this Scholarship Program webpage. NSSF urges applicants to read the rules thoroughly before applying.

The NSSF Patron Member Scholarship requires an essay on one of the following topics:

· Discuss how being a target shooter or hunter has positively influenced your life and taught you about responsibility, firearm safety, conservation and other important values.

· Discuss why it is important for the firearm industry – including manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and shooting ranges – to be represented by a trade association like NSSF and have a voice of protection and advocacy.

· In the last two years the number of women involved in hunting and the shooting sports has increased dramatically. What are some ways that the gun-owing community, firearm retailers and shooting ranges/clubs, and various gun rights organizations can help welcome these new participants?

Submitted essays must be in English, typed, double-spaced and single-sided, on 8.5 by 11-inch format in 11 or 12 point Times New Roman font, Microsoft Word format and not exceed two pages (not including bibliography). No PDF essays will be accepted; however, the application itself may be submitted in PDF format.

Twenty-five applicants with the highest overall scores will be selected as scholarship prize winners. The applicant with the highest scored essay will earn the grand prize $8,000 scholarship. One first-place prize winner with the second-highest scored essay will receive a scholarship of $5,000. One second-place prize winner with the third-highest scored essay will receive a scholarship of $3,000. The remaining 22 runner-up prize winners will each receive a scholarship of $1,500. SHOT SHOW 2022–MEOPTA SPORT OPTICS

One of the more exciting new product announcements in the magnified optics space comes from Meopta Sport Optics. Unless you hail from the EU, it’s quite likely you’ve never heard of Meopta, yet they produce some of the best optics available anywhere. Meopta began life in 1933 as Optikotechna Company in Prerov Czechoslovakia, and during World War II they were forced to supply optical equipment for the German Army. Today, Meopta is fully ISO certified for manufacture, service and support for a broad array of technologically advanced optical systems and assemblies for the industrial, military and consumer markets.

At this year’s Shot Show Meopta introduced the MeoSport R 3-15×50 Second Focal Plane rifle scope featuring a 4C reticle. Meopta ships the MeoSport R with 30mm scope rings that will index to its 30mm tube, the feature ensures that your reticle is perfectly level, eliminating the need for bubble levels or plumb lines.

The MeoSport R features exposed lockable turrets calibrated in 1/10 MRAD and a range of 26 MRAD (90 MOA) of elevation and wind adjustment. The optical clarity of the scope is exceptional, and parallax is adjustable from 10 yards to infinity using the side focus knob. The scope ships with the 4C illuminated reticle that I found particularly interesting. The 4C is a basic duplex reticle with an illuminated center dot. I found that the illuminated center dot had the same optical effect as a red dot sight.

I’ll summarize my initial impression by saying that the MeoSport R is as good as some of its high-end competitors and at its $499 MSRP it’s the best value in town. If you need an entry level optic, you won’t find a better deal than the MeoSport R 3-15×50

On Thursday, April 28 (Conference Day 3), the 22nd Annual Science & Engineering Technology Conference will feature a classified session, held at The United States Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) Conference Center of the Americas (CCA) building. This session is classified as Secret U.S. Level; you must be a U.S. Citizen holding a secret clearance or higher.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information

The 22nd Annual S&ET Conference planning team continues to monitor the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation as the health of our event participants, members, and partners remains our top priority. We are committed to following the guidelines and precautions as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Attendees can expect to see the following at NDIA events:

PROOF OF VACCINATION: All attendees will be required to provide proof of vaccination or proof of negative COVID-19 test within 72-hours of badge pick up. Details for securely providing documentation will be provided on the event website.
MASKS: Fully vaccinated attendees are encouraged to wear face masks but, in accordance with CDC guidance, may make that choice for themselves. If you are not fully vaccinated, you are required to wear a face mask in public places.
WAIVER: All registrants are required to sign the COVID-19 waiver during the online registration process. Attendees may disclose their vaccination status at the time of signing.
SOCIAL DISTANCING: Additional venue space will be available to allow for attendees to spread out. Timed badge pick-ups will be implemented to reduce crowding at registration.
FOOD AND BEVERAGE: Food and beverage areas will be designed to minimize touchpoints utilizing individually packaged or attended stations.
