This Czech company holds a number of patents and has done some impressive research and engineering advancing optical technology. The company supplies advanced optical technologies to the Czech military and others around the world. At Shot Show 2022, MEOPTA introduced the MeoSport R 3-15X50 RD SFP, which they market as an entry level optic. I had the opportunity to review the MeoSport and found it as capable as some of its high-end competitors.

SCI Supports Congress’ Decision to Remove Section 436 from the 2022 Appropriations Package

Washington, D.C. (March 11, 2022) – Thanks to strong and consistent opposition from Safari Club International (SCI), members of Congress, and African wildlife officials, the 2022 appropriations package has successfully passed through the legislative process without Section 436 included, which would have banned the importation into the U.S of sport-hunted elephants or lions from Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Zambia.

Now, this finalized legislation is headed to President Biden’s desk for signature. Until today, the bill was still pending before the Senate, so its final language was not assured. SCI refrained from reporting this victory until all steps of the process played out since every step represented a possibility that the bill would see more changes or be derailed entirely.

Had the Section 436 language remained in the bill as the anti-hunting activists wanted, this provision would have kneecapped hunting incentives in southern Africa. That in turn would have significantly reduced funding for conservation projects, biodiversity enhancement initiatives, and habitat protection in the region. Some of the world’s largest populations of lions and elephants that inhabit that part of the continent would have been more vulnerable to poachers, unemployment, and deadly human-wildlife conflicts as a result.

Leading up to the decision in Congress to strip this anti-hunting language, SCI members and our supporters made our voices heard in the halls of Congress by:

· Generating 2,199 individual letters from advocates to their members of Congress, urging them to oppose Section 436.

· Sending a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Republican Leader McCarthy from SCI and 21 other hunting organizations, detailing strong opposition to Section 436 for blatantly ignoring the conservation benefits of well-regulated international hunting.

· Working with Representative Jeff Duncan of South Carolina to introduce an amendment to strike Section 436 from the funding bill, which SCI also called on all members of Congress to support.

The voices and contributions of Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Richard Shelby (R-AL) were especially important as they spearheaded efforts to remove this harmful language from the bill. Their dedication to protecting America’s hunting heritage has not gone unnoticed by SCI and our members, and we congratulate them on their successful leadership.

African government and community representatives also played a distinguished role in the campaign to strike this anti-conservation language by testifying in front of the House of Representatives and directly contacting lawmakers’ offices. Notably, Ambassadors of nations within the Southern African Development Community, Ambassador Tadeous Tafipenyika Chifamba of the Republic of Zimbabwe, and Ambassador Lazarous Kapambwe of the Republic of Zambia sent a letter directly to Speaker Pelosi and Leader McCarthy voicing their concern about the damages an import ban would have on their respective countries and the region writ large.

“I’d like to speak on behalf of SCI members, our friends across Southern Africa, and hunters the world over when I say that we are thrilled with Congress’ decision to eliminate Section 436’s anti-hunting language from the appropriations package. There are still many fights on the horizon that are equally important in protecting African wildlife conservation and the global freedom to hunt, but today we should acknowledge and celebrate the difference hunters can make when we work together to achieve a common goal,” said SCI CEO Laird Hamberlin. Situational awareness (SA) through secure data transmission

Recognizing and recording environmental conditions and situational snapshots – and translating them into actions – can reduce risks for personnel, machines, and infrastructure. In many areas, security forces need to operate efficiently and require information about their surroundings. At the same time, they must use this information to plan and adjust their actions accordingly. For example, information on the location of friendly and enemy forces can be made available.

Big Data and complex networked systems

The advent of artificial intelligence, Big Data, and cross-platform, complex networked systems has made highly technical expertise mandatory. Interfaces must be developed to match the respective applications. For example, optronic systems enable vehicle crews to communicate using a wide range of visual information. Acoustic sensor systems help to localize threats by identifying ballistic missiles, warning personnel, and providing information on the direction and distance of the projectile’s source. Ideally, these sensor systems are coupled with an Active Protection System, which protect crews by disrupting the approaching projectile in such a way that the intended effect on target is severely impaired.

Situational awareness technologies support fast and well-founded decision-making. A central node (a forward operating base or FOB) bundles the acquired information and outputs real-time data to the deployed units via cables, antennas, and glass fibers. All these systems are united by the need for highly robust, reliable, application-specific connector systems and cable assemblies for the transmission of mission-critical (RF) signals and data.

Jack Bergman (R-Mich.). The bill has 55 original co-sponsors. This vital legislation will end the ability of corporate entities from profiting from taxpayer-funded federal contracts while discriminating against a Constitutionally-protected industry at the same time.

“This legislation is critical to ensuring ‘woke’ corporations don’t use their financial might, funded by taxpayers, to deny essential services to the firearm industry,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “Corporations, in particular financial institutions, have been dictating public policies from boardrooms that throttle firearm businesses, which are Constitutionally-protected. This bill will no longer allow those corporations to benefit from taxpayer dollars while at the same time using those funds to deny Americans their Second Amendment rights. We thank Congressman Bergman for his leadership to ensure fairness in business, reasserting Congress’s role in ensuring the federal government isn’t picking winners and losers in the marketplace based on politics and protecting the ability of a lawful industry to compete for services without artificial and agenda-driven barriers.”

Congressman Bergman’s FIND Act doesn’t tell companies with whom they must do business. However, just as companies can chose who they wish to do business with, so can the government when it spends taxpayer money. This bill ensures corporations cannot benefit from contracts and subcontracts funded by taxpayers only to use their financial strength to unfairly discriminate against the firearm industry. For far too long, corporations have engaged in “boardroom gun control” to force firearm businesses to adopt measures that would restrict Americans’ Second Amendment rights. Corporations are free to hold these anti-Second Amendment policies if they choose but would forfeit access to compete for federal contracts.

Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott signed a similar law in Texas in 2021 and similar legislation is being considered in other state capitols. Congressman Bergman’s legislation would bring those same fair business protections to the federal government to ensure corporate entities are not forcing policies that deny American civil liberties through the benefit of taxpayer-funded federal contracts.

IWA OutdoorClassics 2022: Resumption of sector gathering proves a success

IWA OutdoorClassics 2022 has come to a successful conclusion, although the event was an unusual one in the context of the current geopolitical situation and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. A total of 856* exhibitors from 53 countries took part in this eagerly awaited return to the sector gathering in Nuremberg. The Leading International Trade Fair for Hunting, Shooting Sports, Outdoor Activities and Security also drew 19,500* trade visitors (international contingent just under 60%, representing 111 countries) to the city between 3 and 6 March. The hygiene strategy worked, with exhibitors and visitors observing the relevant regulations.
