Double Down – CZ-USA’s Best Bet in Upland Shotguns

Kansas City, KS (September 14, 2022) – Upland hunting and double shotguns go hand-in-hand. Discerning upland hunters want a light, reliable, lively shotgun—all of which add to the enjoyment in the field. CZ rises to the challenge, hand-picking three of their finest double shotguns for fur and feather. These fine shotguns come with a black chrome finish or a tough-as-nails Cerakote finish and magnetic chambers on the All-Terrain series. Whether a rising covey, flushing rooster, or scampering rabbit, CZ shotguns are a solid choice.

The CZ All-Terrain series is a twist on the classic shotgun features and finish. They are clad in a muted OD green Cerakote finish yet retain the traditional walnut stock. The finish makes them ideal for field work, making them nearly impervious to the elements.

All-Terrain upland over/under and side-by-sides include a set of rare earth magnets installed in the extractor or ejectors. With these magnets in place, most modern shells are retained in the gun even when turned upside down. All-Terrain shotguns come equipped with sling swivels and extended chokes for added versatility.

Upland Ultralight is a trim over/under shotgun, ideal for long days in the field. CZ coats the metal with a non-reflective, weather-resistant matte finish and features a sport-styled walnut stock.

The Upland Ultralight functions flawlessly, featuring a precision CNC-cut aluminum alloy frame. On the exterior, the most noticeable characteristic is the lack of a mid-rib between the barrels – this shaves precious ounces of the ultralight design and gives the shotgun a modern look. The Upland Ultralight is offered in 12 and 20-gauge with a standard finish or as part of the All-Terrain Series.

The Drake represents an outstanding value in over/under shotguns. It features the same CNCed action and internals as other CZ double shotguns and includes an extractor, single selectable trigger, and laser-cut checkering. The Drake is available in 12, 20, 28, and .410 with 28″ barrels, and it ships with a set of 5 flush interchangeable chokes (except .410, which has fixed IC/MOD). Like the Upland Ultralight, the Drake foregoes a mid-rib between the barrels in favor of less weight. The Drake is offered in a Southpaw variant which is a lefty-friendly cast on for left-handed shooters.

Two All-Terrain models in 12 and 20-gauge round out the line and include the durable Cerakote finish and rare earth magnets for holding shotshells where they need to be.

CZ’s Bobwhite G2 side-by-side shotgun is back by popular demand. The updated Gen 2 gets a CNCed receiver and modern internals that slim the action while increasing longevity and reliability. The Bobwhite features double triggers for choke decisions on the fly and an English-style straight grip for a comfortable reach to the triggers. 

The standard model uses a durable black chrome finish from head to toe, while the All-Terrain model sports muted OD green Cerakote metal protection. Both finishes resist rust much better than a traditional blued gun.

Built on gauge-specific frames, the Bobwhite G2 is available in 12, 20 and 28-gauge. The Bobwhite’s 28″ barrels are threaded for choke tubes, and it ships with five flush chokes spanning from Cylinder to Full. A southpaw variant fits left-handed shooters for improved success in the field.

Federal Ammunition Awarded 5-Year, $114M U.S. Army Contract

ANOKA, Minnesota – September 14, 2022 – Federal Ammunition has been awarded a 5-year contract to produce the United States Army’s 5.56mm training ammunition valued at $114 million dollars.  AA40 5.56mm frangible ammunition is used by the U.S. military branches in rifles and carbines chambered for this caliber for training.

“This contract is historic,” said Jason Vanderbrink, President of Federal Ammunition.  “It is the largest government contract awarded to Federal in its 100-years of operation and speaks volumes to the trust the United States military has in our American workforce assembling the best products for our servicemen and servicewomen.”

“Successfully executing on the AA40 contract requires large scale production capabilities combined with stringent quality control measures,” said Erik Carlson, Senior Director of Operations at Federal’s headquarters located in Anoka, MN.  “Awards of this magnitude are validation of Federal’s committed workforce to meet these demands and provide the best ammunition possible for our U.S. Armed Forces time and time again.”

“Federal’s frangible training ammunition has been recognized as the best in the business by the United States military and this latest U.S. Army awarded contract continues that recognition,” said Vice President of Government Sales David Leis.  “The ammunition is designed to disintegrate into small fragments on impact, minimizing over-penetrating and ricochet hazards, making it ideal for training purposes.”

SENER Aeroespacial will lead the European Hypersonic Defense Interceptor Project from the European Defense Fund

SENER Aeroespacial will lead the main project from the European Defence Fund

The European Defence Fund (EDF) Program Committee has approved the list of projects selected for funding by the European Commission as part of the 2021 EDF call for proposals. SENER Aeroespacial has achieved an excellent result for Spanish industry, as it will participate in a total of seven projects in the 2021 call.

Specifically, SENER Aeroespacial will coordinate one of the star projects in the 2021 EDF call for proposals, the EU HYDEF (European Hypersonic Defense Interceptor). The project is aimed at developing a European interceptor to counter threats from 2035. It will result in the concept, risk reduction and demonstration of an efficient endo-atmospheric interceptor capable of operating at different flight levels, which will include an innovative aerodynamic control system for high maneuverability, very agile guiding concepts and advanced sensor and search systems.

This project will involve 13 companies and organizations from 7 nations: Spain, Germany, Belgium, Norway, Czech Republic, Poland and Sweden.

EU HYDEF is related to the Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO)’s TWISTER project (Timely Warning and Interception with Space-based TheatER surveillance). This project is led by France with the participation of several countries – including Spain – for the development of a complete system to defend against hypersonic threats with space-based surveillance. In recent months, the importance of having such a system in Europe has increased exponentially, following Russia’s demonstration using hypersonic missiles against targets in Ukraine near the border with Poland.

The EU HYDEF project will be developed over three years with a budget of around 110 million euros, of which almost 100 million will be financed by the European Commission. This will be the largest grant awarded to a project by the EDF until now.

In this project, SENER Aeroespacial has driven participation by other Spanish companies and organizations, including GMV and Escribano M&E, SENER Aeroespacial partners in the Spanish Missile Systems (SMS) initiative; INSTALAZA and INTA, also involved as SMS strategic partners; plus, other Spanish industries, such as Navantia and Skylife. The HYDEF project is thus a significant milestone in the SMS initiative’s consolidation plan.

The other major project also coordinated by SENER Aeroespacial is COMMANDS (Convoy Operations with Manned-unManneD Systems). Its objective is to develop total life cycle (TLC) capabilities for agile, intelligent, and cooperative manned and unmanned ground systems. The results will not only allow for improvements to the current EU inventory ground vehicles for specific missions, but also to integrate them into future vehicles under development.

The European Commission (DG DEFIS) believes that the COMMANDS project is related to the PESCO initiative’s UGS (Integrated Unmanned Ground System) project.

Under the coordination of SENER Aeroespacial, another 20 companies and organizations from 10 EU Member States will participate in COMMANDS. The project will run for 3 years with a budget of 26.8 million euros, of which almost 25 million will be financed through a grant from the European Commission. In addition to SENER Aeroespacial, the Spanish companies Indra, Santa Bárbara Sistemas and INTA will participate in the project.

SENER Aeroespacial is Spain’s leading company in ground vehicle autonomous navigation systems, as well as in collaborative systems between manned and unmanned vehicles (MUT). The company has been awarded several projects related to these systems within the framework of the Ministry of Defense’s COINCIDENTE program: ARCO, ALANO and DIEDRO. SENER Aeroespacial has developed its own autonomous ground navigation system (NAVIGROUND) specifically designed to operate in GNSS degraded or denied environments. Recently, the agreement between SENER Aeroespacial and Santa Bárbara-GDELS was published, for the development of autonomous capacities on ASCOD platforms.

In addition to these two major projects, SENER Aeroespacial will participate in five others: EICAS, EuroHAPS, EPC, ADEQUDE and Q-SiNG.

The Hyper nock increases string-to-nock engagement by 30 percent resulting in increased accuracy, reduced string wear, and no dry fires. The arrows boast a straightness tolerance of +/- .001 inches for supreme accuracy and consistency.

The Hyper XP 405 also features a metal-injected molded trigger and TriggerTech™ Frictionless Release Technology (a $200 value). This provides a reliable, crisp, 3-pound pull for consistent shots and improved accuracy. An Anti-Dry Fire (ADF) system and a nock sensor ensure the crossbow cannot fire unless the arrow is loaded correctly. Finger safety reminders above the generous pass-through foregrip keep fingers well out of the string path, and an adjustable buttstock allows for a perfect length-of-pull fit so the XP 405 can be fitted for youth, women and men.

The 4-5x32mm red/green illuminated scope offers precise target acquisition in a full range of ambient light conditions from twilight to high noon. A multi-position premium quiver completes the package for the ultimate shooting experience. Last but not least, the Hyper XP 405 features a simple, three-bolt assembly, one bolt to attach the riser to the rail and two screws to attach the foot stirrup.

The Future Force Capabilities Conference  & Exhibition planning team is monitoring the COVID-19 situation as the health of our event participants, members, and partners remains our top priority. We are committed to following the guidelines and precautions as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the hotel venue. Attendees should adhere to the following at the conference:

PROOF OF VACCINATION: All attendees will be required to provide proof of vaccination or proof of negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior at badge pick-up. NDIA will only allow the following tests that are administered by a medical professional: Rapid Antigen, Rapid PCR, and Regular PCR tests. Proof of antibodies or self-administered/at-home tests will not be accepted. COVID testing is the financial responsibility of the attendee.
WAIVER: All registrants are required to sign the COVID-19 waiver during the online registration process. Attendees may disclose their vaccination status at the time of signing.

Haifa, Israel, September 12, 2022 – Elbit Systems Ltd. (NASDAQ:ESLT and TASE: ESLT) (“Elbit Systems”) announced today that its U.S. subsidiary, Elbit Systems of America LLC, (“Elbit Systems of America”), was awarded an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (ID/IQ) contract with a maximum potential value of up to approximately $49 million, to provide 120mm mortar systems for the U.S. Army. The contract will be executed in Fort Worth, Texas over a period of five years. An initial delivery order of approximately $10 million has been issued under this ID/IQ contract, to be executed over a two-year period.

The contract was awarded following the successful completion of a previous contract of this type that was awarded to the company in 2016.

Ulm/Germany, 9 September 2022 – HENSOLDT has donated 8,000 € to the St. Nikolaus children’s hospice in Bad Grönenbach in the Allgäu region. The amount was collected at the summer festivities of the Ulm site of HENSOLDT from donations of the employees and a participation of the management in the same amount and was now handed over to Brigitte Waltl-Jensen, Public Relations, Children’s Hospice St. Nikolaus.

As the first children’s hospice in southern Germany, St. Nikolaus began 15 years ago to support and accompany seriously ill children and their families. Children with life-shortening illnesses are cared for at St. Nikolaus in cooperation with their parents, additionally they are also looked after and relieved in their home environment. Individually tailored to the sick child, various therapies are offered, such as physiotherapy, water therapy, Montessori- and music therapy or curative painting. In addition to the sick children, parents and siblings are also supported with various programs to recharge their batteries for everyday life at home. Discussion groups, individual counseling, creative work, and excursions help families through the illness- and mourning phase.

The “Süddeutsche Kinderhospiz Akademie” (South German Children’s Hospice Academy) was founded in 2009 to provide training and continuing education for the volunteers of the children’s hospice in the Allgäu e.V.. The employees of the children’s hospice are trained there in the medical, psychosocial, and pedagogical areas.

The sole sponsor of the St. Nikolaus Children’s Hospice is the “Süddeutsche Kinderhospiz-Stiftung”. The donation from HENSOLDT will now benefit this foundation and thus also the affected families in the children’s hospice. “We are very happy about the donation and thank you on behalf of all employees of the children’s hospice,” says Waltl-Jensen.

DRS Delivers Advanced Electric Propulsion Equipment for Lead Columbia-Class Submarine

ARLINGTON, VA, AUGUST 30, 2022  ̶  Leonardo DRS, Inc. (“DRS”) announced today that it has successfully completed factory acceptance testing and shipment of the first production unit of the main propulsion motor for the U.S. Navy’s new COLUMBIA Class submarine. The motor was recently shipped to General Dynamics Electric Boat (EB) for integration into the lead ship of the class.

DRS was chosen by EB and the U.S. Navy to design and manufacture the major Columbia Electric Drive Propulsion system components including the main propulsion electric motor.  All prototype components of this system successfully completed full power endurance and other testing at the Navy’s land-based test facility in 2020, where operational testing continues.  In addition to the main propulsion motor, other lead ship components are being manufactured and are also preparing to ship to Electric Boat.

The Columbia class program goal is to design and build a class of 12 new ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs) to replace the U.S. Navy’s current force of Ohio class SSBNs. The Navy has identified the Columbia class program as its top priority program. The Columbia class submarines will be larger than the current class in terms of submerged displacement and will become the largest submarine ever built by the United States.

The DRS Naval Power Systems business was awarded contracts for the electric propulsion system components which included design, test, qualification, and production of the full-scale components for both a land-based test facility and first two ships of the class. Over the past several years, the Navy has completed successful land-based tests of DRS’ electric propulsion components. With significant testing completed, the program is transitioning to production with DRS presently manufacturing the components for the first two ships of the Columbia Class.

“We are proud to play a key role in developing and providing this capability for the U.S. Navy on this critical national defense asset,” said Jon Miller, senior vice president and general manager of the DRS Naval Power business. “Our long history of providing innovative technology to the U.S. Navy and continuing this work for Electric Boat ensures our sailors will be defending this country with the most advanced submarine in the world,” Miller said.

Team members Tim Gillingham and Kyle Douglas captured multiple top place finishes during the two matches, with Gillingham receiving additional honors as “Shooter of the Year” in the Senior Pro division.

The 2022 NFAA First Dakota Classic and the 2022 NFAA Outdoor Target Nationals both took place August 26-28 in Yankton, South Dakota. At the Dakota Classic, Gold Tip and Bee Stinger archer Kyle Douglas took second place in the Men’s Pro division. After battling for the lead all-day, the winner was decided in a head-to-head shoot-off where one arrow, closest to the center decided the victor. Douglas was edged out of the first place spot by a mere 1/16” of an inch.

Coming off recent victories at the NFAA Field Nationals and ASA Classic Championship, Gold Tip and Bee Stinger Staff Manager Tim Gillingham also took home the Shooter of the Year title as well as finished third in the Senior Pro.

At the NFAA Outdoor Target Nationals, Gillingham set a Senior Pro national record of 596 out of 600 on day one and cruised to a first-place finish on day two. Meanwhile, Kyle Douglas fought his way to a tie for second place and won the single arrow shoot-off for his second podium finish during the weekend.

Team Winchester Wins Big at the World’s Largest Trap Shoot

EAST ALTON, IL (September 9, 2022) —The 2022 Grand American World Trapshooting Championships was recently held in Sparta, Illinois, with thousands of trapshooters gathering to compete for top honors. The 15-day event started with the AIM Grand National Youth event and then rolled into a week of preliminary contests that culminated with “Grand Week,” the highest attended American Trap Association (ATA) competition in the world.
Winchester is the official ammunition of the ATA and was in full force during the event with its flagship retail store selling Winchester branded gear and offering exciting promotions for attendees. The shell house was also fully loaded for the competition.
Team Winchester members Harlan Campbell and Matt and Foster Bartholow offered free shooting clinics for youth shooting participants on-site. They, along with other Team Winchester members, stood out among the competition and amassed dozens of podium finishes.
Team Winchester accomplishments were highlighted with Matt Bartholow winning the Doubles Trap World Championship. This is a back-to-back win for Matt after his 2021 performance, making him the first repeat Doubles World Champion in decades.

FAA’s Largest Solar Project to Power Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center

Air traffic controllers, tech-ops professionals, aviation safety inspectors and others trained at Center.

Washington, DC – The FAA’s largest solar project to date is coming to the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (the Center) in Oklahoma City. The clean electricity generated from the solar panels on FAA property will help serve the Center’s power needs. 

“This project captures the area’s abundant sunshine, will save valuable taxpayer dollars and will help build a more sustainable aviation system,” said Acting FAA Administrator Billy Nolen.

The panels are expected to produce 2,600 megawatt hours annually, the equivalent needed to power 260 average homes. The project will reduce the Center’s electric bill by an estimated $170,000 – $200,000 annually. Air traffic controllers, technical operations professionals and aviation inspectors are trained at the Center.

There are many energy-related advancements currently underway at the Center. Sixteen of the FAA’s 24 certified sustainable buildings are located on the Center’s campus. The Center has participated in two pilot programs for electric vehicle charging stations, and local university students are currently studying ways to better track the Center’s energy use and reporting.

This project helps the FAA meet President Biden’s goal for federal buildings to be clean and sustainable. Other solar projects include a 1,600 panel solar farm adjacent to the Tucson, Ariz., air traffic control tower. The panels generate enough power to support all of that facility’s electrical needs for several hours a day and help cool the building at night.

Join NDIA and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Defense Division on October 19, 2022, for a forum on CBRN Threats and Challenges – A Classified Update taking place at the National Strategic Research Institute (NSRI) at University of Nebraska located at 9070 Junction Dr., Annapolis Junction, MD 20701 from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm.

This quarterly meeting is set to provide a SECRET-level classified update from government representatives in the Chemical and Biological Defense Program. This update will inform industry and government attendees about the CB Threat concerns that the DASD is focused on and highlight the priority efforts to address those threats. The objective is to improve understanding across the community and help them to focus their efforts and resources in ways that align to the CBDP’s priorities.

Team Winchester Posts High Marks at the NSCA Northeast Regional

EAST ALTON, IL (September 8, 2022) —Team Winchester members continued to show off their shooting skills at the most recent event at the NSCA Championship Tour, Powered by Winchester. The Northeast Regional, held at Hopkins Game Farm in Maryland, is event six of eight in the 2022 NSCA Championship Tour and drew approximately 700 shooters.
Team Winchester members Connor Daniel and Zach Kienbaum had particularly strong performances, posting solid scores in nearly every event. Kienbaum placed second in the Main Event and FITASC, while Daniel continued his incredible season by winning the Sub Junior classification in each of his four events. 
In addition, the reigning national champion, Joe Fanizzi, finished as runner-up in the 5-Stand event, and Kayla Wilgus made two podium placements within the Sub Junior class. Congratulations to all participants, and thank you to Hopkins Game Farm for a fantastic event.

Security Clearance Information

This event is open to U.S. citizens only who possess at a minimum Secret Clearance. The event is SECRET/ NOFORN. Attendees must be affiliated with U.S. companies, and submit their paperwork by Wednesday, September 21. Visit the event website for additional information on how to submit your clearance.

COVID-19 Information

The Undersea Warfare planning team is monitoring the COVID-19 situation as the health of our event participants, members, and partners remains our top priority. We are committed to following the guidelines and precautions as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the hotel venue. Attendees should adhere to the following at the conference:

PROOF OF VACCINATION: All attendees will be required to provide either proof of vaccination, proof of negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior at badge pick-up, or a DD3150 form to get onto the base.  NDIA will only allow the following tests that are administered by a medical professional: Rapid Antigen, Rapid PCR, and Regular PCR tests. Proof of antibodies or self-administered/at-home tests will not be accepted. COVID testing is the financial responsibility of the attendee.
WAIVER: All registrants are required to sign the COVID-19 waiver during the online registration process. Attendees may disclose their vaccination status at the time of signing.
