Anti-Jam, LPI/LPD Solution Delivers Higher Data Rates

SAN DIEGO – 25 October 2022 – General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) successfully completed an air-to-air laser communication link between GA-ASI’s Laser Airborne Communication (LAC) terminals integrated onto two company-owned King Air aircraft. Laser communication is desirable for military applications because of its Low Probability of Intercept/Low Probability of Detection (LPI/LPD) and anti-jam capability that can support much higher data rates than radio frequency systems.

“This air-to-air demonstration was a major success and marks a critical milestone for GA-ASI’s Lasercom development team,” said GA-ASI Vice President of Mission Payloads & Exploitation, Satish Krishnan. “The success of this flight will pave the way for more opportunities to demonstrate crosslinks from aircraft to other platforms, including unmanned aircraft, maritime vessels, and space systems.”

The aircraft flew out of Montgomery Field in Kearney Mesa, Calif. on Sept. 26, 2022, and performed the test in segregated airspace near Yuma, Ariz. During the flight test, the team maintained a link at 1.0 Gigabits per second (Gbps) and exchanged data, including real-time navigation, video, and voice data.

GA-ASI has developed a family of optical communication capabilities and will play an important role in transitioning these capabilities to users in a variety of domains, from air to sea. GA-ASI expects that laser communications will enable Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) produced by the company to perform beyond-line-of-sight communications for airborne, maritime, and ground users who also use optical communications, as well as with future air-to-space optical communication applications. This capability can be applied as a podded solution to GA-ASI’s full line of unmanned aircraft, including MQ-9B SkyGuardian®/SeaGuardian®, MQ-9A Reaper and MQ-1C Gray Eagle 25M.

FAA Updates Recreational Drone Flying Guidance

WASHINGTON— The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) today issued guidance on how to become an FAA-recognized community-based organization for recreational drone flying.

Under federal law, recreational drone flyers must follow the safety guidelines of a FAA-recognized community-based organization. The organization is required to develop its safety guidelines in coordination with the FAA and an applicant may wish to tailor them to a particular type of unmanned aviation.

The FAA’s guidance, Advisory Circular 91-57C provides a comprehensive list of recommended safety guidelines that applicants may consider using in their application. Organizations that meet the legal definition of a community-based organization may apply for FAA recognition through the FAA’s DroneZone website.

The updated guidance also provides information on applying for recreational flying fixed sites, hosting sponsored events and educational use requirements.

Officers Attend 6th Annual ‘Back the Women in Blue’ Event Presented by GLOCK

ROUND ROCK, TX (AGirlandAGun.org) — A Girl & A Gun (AG & AG) Women’s Shooting League hosted its 6th ‘Back the Women in Blue’ law enforcement training event presented by GLOCK from October 12-15, 2022, at the Round Rock Public Safety Training Center. The student group comprised 16 female officers from around the country, who had been nominated by citizens or colleagues in their home communities as deserving of this experience.

“Not only are we able to provide quality training for these incredible women, but we are also able to connect mentors and friends that can support each other in their work and personal journeys,” said AG & AG Executive Director Robyn Sandoval. “This event truly exhibits the A Girl & A Gun motto of ‘It’s More Than Shooting’ and we are honored to give back to these brave and caring public servants.”

Chief Allen Banks of the Round Rock Police Department welcomed the officers to his training facility and the city of Round Rock, which is just north of Austin, TX. The officers — ten who serve municipalities and six who serve counties — were excited to learn from the skilled instructors of the RRPD at its incredible state-of-the-art facility. Sgt. Brian Quick structured the training schedule to start on the range with pistol and rifle drills.

“Sometimes you take a training course, and you leave retaining one piece of good information. Then you take A Girl & A Gun sponsored training course and you return to your law enforcement duties with skills that will save a life and make you truly reflect on how important it is to train with your firearm,” said Sgt. Nichole Brimhall of the Elgin (TX) Police Department.

On the second day of training, officers used simunition and force-on-force drills in and around vehicles. They were able to perform scenarios that are common to situations they may face at home. Later that day, the officers rappelled off the seven-story tower. They learned new skills with courage and tenacity.

“I came away from this training with renewed purpose and confidence. That sort of thing can’t really be bought. I can’t thank everyone involved enough,” said Officer Cynthea Gunderson of the Crested Butte (CO) Marshal’s Office.

With financial support from GLOCK, ammunition provided by Federal Premium, and donations from AG & AG local chapters, AG & AG was able to provide the the training materials, range fees, hotel, and all meals for the officers. Each officer also received a participant bag with donated swag from Streamlight, Blue Force Gear, Seal 1, Holosun, and USCCA.

“Between the laid back environment, the excellent instruction, and phenomenal training facility, this was the best post-academy experience I’ve received so far. It impresses me that an organization like A Girl & A Gun with its sponsors was able to put on this event and create much needed support for women in law enforcement,” said Officer Lindsey Baker of the Hanover County (VA) Sheriff’s Office.

The final day of training focused on defensive tactics. Officers went to the mats to learn physical techniques to help them safely perform their duties. They were able to learn from two exceptional female instructors, which made the training environment fun, approachable, and successful.

“A Girl & A Gun is such an incredible organization. The ‘Back the Women in Blue’ event gives females in law enforcement the chance to become more confident in skills that could save their life one day. I was honored to be a part of such an event,” said Officer Falynn Monk of the Nacogdoches (TX) Police Department.

Colt’s newly redesigned action, using nine fewer parts, for a smoother and more robust action. The new leaf spring action is smooth, repeatable, and varies little from cylinder to cylinder vs. Python’s of old. Pythons are double- and single-action guns with a spurred hammer. The silky-smooth trigger pull on a Colt Python is second to none and is part of why these premium revolvers have such outstanding accuracy. Adding to its performance, the new Python includes more steel in the frame, so feeding the Python a steady diet of hot magnum loads is no problem!

Like all new Colt Pythons, the 3-inch barreled version is chambered for the powerful 357 magnum and features a 6-round cylinder. Its semi-bright stainless steel finished barrel and frame contrast with stunning walnut grips. The grip’s shape, deep checkering, and inlaid golden Colt logo are reminiscent of the classic. Its ribbed top strap and full-length underlug are unchanged from the original.

In addition, the ergonomics of the grip are more precise, so shooters won’t have to bring out their hand files. Colt also designed this grip to fit older Python Grips, which is excellent for collectors. The two companies will combine state-of-the-art technologies

Haifa/Taufkirchen, October 20th 2022 – Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. and sensor solutions provider HENSOLDT are joining forces to offer a readily-available, state-of-the-art and mature solution to the Luftwaffe’s requirement of airborne electronic warfare capabilities with Initial Operating Capability (IOC) in 2028. The exclusive teaming agreement was signed in Tel Aviv on the 18th of October, by Thomas Müller, CEO HENSOLDT, and Maj. Gen (ret.) Yoav Har-Even, President and CEO of RAFAEL.

RAFAEL and HENSOLDT agreed to embark on a joint endeavor to integrate and enhance RAFAEL’s Sky Shield airborne electronic warfare pod as a mature off-the-shelf Escort Jammer (ESJ), with the latest airborne electronic attack national sensitive technology (KALÆTRON Attack) by HENSOLDT. This new capability supports the Luftwaffe’s decision to adapt the Eurofighter Typhoon into an electronic attack platform. The new EA pod utilizes the existing interfaces of the Litening Pod, already combat-proven on the Typhoon, thus significantly simplifying the integration efforts and saving invaluable resources.

Together, RAFAEL and HENSOLDT bring the necessary experience not only as solution providers for ESJ, but also in the program environment of the Eurofighter and related integration and certification processes.

HENSOLDT has developed the “Kalaetron Attack” Airborne Jamming System which recently confirmed its effectiveness against various enemy air defense radars. It is part of HENSOLDT’s fully digital ‘Kalaetron’ product family, which is used in self-protection and signal intelligence systems in the German armed forces. In addition to cognitive software elements, the core comprises a fully digitized, broadband sensor and an electronically controllable, software defined jammer. Metallic 3D printing enabled a condensed design of the electronic components so that the jammer can be easily integrated into pod formats commonly used worldwide or directly into bodies of various flying platforms. The system’s effectiveness and responsiveness are also based on artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, which enable the classification of unknown threats in the field and the rapid evaluation of large amounts of data. In doing so, the many years of in-depth experience in the development of jamming techniques against radars were efficiently combined with the latest techniques of applying Edge AI computing.

RAFAEL’s Sky Shield Escort Jammer is a military-off-the-shelf solution already delivered to several customers worldwide, therefore allowing for easy integration onto fast jet platforms. Sky Shield leverages the vast experience of RAFAEL in the Electronic Warfare domain and its experience with German Air Force platforms. By using AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) technology, the single wideband jamming pod covers present and future high frequency range while providing a High Effective Radiation Power (ERP). Sky Shield is able to generate simultaneous jamming and deception transmissions against multiple threats, and its commonality with existing technology, coupled with its open architecture, allow HENSOLDT and RAFAEL to offer a very robust growth potential to address future challenges and provide for exclusive national building blocks. RAFAEL serves as a centre of excellence for Electronic Warfare and is the operator of Israel’s national EW range, possessing significant world-leading expertise in this domain. Some of RAFAEL’s combat-proven, end-to-end airborne solutions are in service in Germany, including the LITENING and RECCELITE Electro-Optic pods on the Luftwaffe’s Eurofighter Typhoon. Where Are You Going When Your Time Comes ?

I hope you’ve all had a productive week and surviving these trying times. Regular readers know I like the Sugar Free Klondike Bars, but as much as I enjoy them, I’m hesitant to pay nearly six bucks for a sixpack; making matters worse gas is now pushing five bucks a gallon. You’re undoubtedly feeling the same impacts unless you’re an elected official in which case you’ve been on the dole for a while. So, it may be a good time to have a shoot the shit, but before we get that started let me bend your ear about the upcoming election.

If you’re in Texas, Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee you’ve undoubtedly seen an increase in the number of California, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut plates, these are people fleeing high taxes, high cost of living, high crime and looking for a better life. If you have a chance to meet and speak with them you’ll be bewildered to find out that they will continue to vote the same way . A reader experiencing what I’ve just described sent me this TikTok video; it’s hilarious but reinforces what Albert Einstein said years ago: “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”

Keep in mind that the states I’ve identified also have the highest per capita psychologists in the country.

Readers new to the site may not be familiar with a shoot the shit so I’ll explain. A shoot the shit is a social interaction during which any topic can be discussed. The participants don’t need to know anything about the subject, are free to make any unsupported comment, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone they wish or change the subject. Regularly scheduled shoot the shits offer greater efficacy than paying a jackass who majored in psychology so they could understand themselves $150+ per hour. So, let’s get started, for this shoot the shit I’ll present the very delicate topic of female sexuality and gratification.

Over the years, women have been treated like chattel, much of which came from the Roman Catholic Church who’s early period philosophy suggested that women experiencing sexual gratification were committing mortal sin and destined to spend all eternity in hell; leading to chastity belts and other abuses. However, if she confessed her sins, upon passing she would make it to Purgatory where she would spend thousands of years being purified and could then enter Heaven. Her duration in Purgatory could be shortened by offering indulgences, which in some cases included gifting property and/or services to the clergy.

For centuries, women could not and would not express their needs and desires without being looked upon with askance. Even during the hippie periods when it was virtually impossible to take a walk in Golden Gate Park without stepping on someone having sex, there was no openness, and existed an irrational suppression of female sexuality. It wasn’t until Playboy Magazine and Penthouse that a women’s secrets were exposed; leading to female sexuality psychology with interesting theories and suggestion to help women reach gratification.

In an interesting article authored by Bella Dally-Steele / I Can Masturbate, No Hands: On Innovative Masturbation and the Power of Friendship, the author points to research conducted in 1976 and published in the Hite Report suggesting that at least 3 percent of the women interviewed for the study reported masturbating by pressing their legs together. This is consistent with some of Playboys’ pieces suggesting that women sitting with their legs crossed while swinging the lower leg were achieving gratification, be it at a business meeting or in a casual setting.

In her article the author also introduces Maddy, a friend, commenting on her means of achieving gratification…

“Maddy rewrote the definition of “orgasm,” too. She could climax within 20 seconds of clenching her legs together while laying on her stomach or sitting with her legs crossed (a skill I deeply envy) “

Until recently these types of discussions could not be had openly. I went the better part of my life thinking that women tightly crossing their legs was lady like and a sign of proper upbringing, little did I know.

ESCORT’s BTS Bullpup Series Shotguns are Built to Last

Rogers, AR (October 19, 2022) – The ESCORT® BTS Bullpup offers all the perks of the VTS series shotguns in a more compact, portable package. This next-generation shotgun is available in either 12 ga or .410 cal and is offered in either black or FDE Cerakote. Using the same gas-piston system as the other VTS shotguns, the BTS Bullpup is slender, with smaller dimensions, thus it is more agile to and at the shoulder. Great for close-quarter action.

The tough polymer lower receiver also doubles as the forend grip, with soft rubber inlays for improved handling. The synthetic barrel cover features Hatsan’s patented ThermoDefend technology that absorbs and dissipates heat while containing the gas operating system. A DuraDefend magazine well, lined with alloy, enhances the durability against extended use.

Recoil control is distributed between a soft rubber buttpad and a long recoil spring. The reversible charging handle offers the ability for ambidextrous operation. The soft rubber pistol grip is removable and can be exchanged for one of many currently available aftermarket options to suit the individual user. The one-piece carry handle sight can be replaced with the included flip-up sights for a lower profile or when using mounted optics. The .410 models feature a 20” barrel with a fixed cylinder choke, suitable for both shots and slugs. This shotgun is one smooth operator, offering the same recoil-absorbing characteristics as the larger caliber models. The BTS ships with two 5-round magazines but there is also an optional low-capacity mag that holds three shells. The gas operation performs similarly, both standard and magnum loads cycle smoothly and reliably with no external adjustments required.

GA-ASI SEAGUARDIAN® BEGINS OPERATIONS FOR JAPAN COAST GUARD

SAN DIEGO – 19 October 2022 – On October 19, 2022, the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) commenced flight operations using an MQ-9B SeaGuardian® Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) from General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI). JCG is operating the SeaGuardian from the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) Air Station Hachinohe. The RPA will primarily perform Maritime Wide Area Search (MWAS) over the Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean. Other missions will include search and rescue, disaster response, and maritime law enforcement.

“SeaGuardian is the world’s premier asset for performing MWAS,” said Robert Schoeffling, vice president of International Strategic Development at GA-ASI. “We’re proud to support the Government of Japan’s policy to strengthen its maritime security.”

SeaGuardian features a multi-mode maritime surface-search radar with an Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR) imaging mode, an Automatic Identification System (AIS) receiver, and High-Definition – Full-Motion Video sensor equipped with optical and infrared cameras. This sensor suite enables real-time detection and identification of surface vessels over thousands of square nautical miles and provides automatic tracking of maritime targets and correlation of AIS transmitters with radar tracks.

GA-ASI’s MQ-9B SkyGuardian® and SeaGuardian are revolutionizing the long-endurance RPAS market by providing all-weather capability and full compliance with STANAG-4671 (NATO UAS airworthiness standard). This feature, along with our operationally proven, collision-avoidance radar, enables flexible operations in civil airspace.

The US Marine Corps successfully completed a series of interception tests of an air defense system incorporating RAFAEL’s TAMIR IRON DOME interceptor

October 19th 2022 – The latest live fire test culminates a series of three trials carried out over the past year, and for the third time the system successfully intercepted a wide variety of targets. In this latest test, the ability to continuously launch TAMIR IRON DOME interceptors from a mobile launcher developed by the Marines was also tested.

The series of tests were conducted by the Marines at the White Sands facility in New Mexico as part of the development program to test a new prototype system for Medium Range Intercept Capability (MRIC – Medium Range Intercept Capability).

“The three tests that took place this year proved that the performance of the MRIC system with IRON DOME interceptors is good and provides a dedicated launcher solution for the Marines,” said Don Kelly, Project Manager in the Air Defense Department (GBAD) of the Marine Corps’ Land Directorate (PEO Land Systems) at the end of the test.

Executive Vice President and Head of the Air and Missile Defense Directorate at RAFAEL Brigadier General (Ret.) Pini Yungman: “Once again, RAFAEL’s systems have proven that they are able to integrate into existing systems and create synergy between systems, providing optimal performance. RAFAEL’s advanced systems are developed with an “open architecture” allowing seamless integration with other systems. In the latest test conducted by the Marines, a successful combination of the TAMIR interceptor launched from a new launcher developed under the leadership of the Marines, combined with the Marines’ radar system and the battle management system, which are systems developed by American industries, was demonstrated.

The S80 length is 80m, she is powered by 4 diesel engines, two shaft lines, and equipped with controllable pitch propellor system and the top speed exceeds 28 knots. The S80 will be equipped with state-of-the-art ship control system, a health management system and she will be capable of being equipped with the combat systems made by the Israeli defense industries or and any equivalent systems according to the customer requirements.

The S-80 can be adjusted to accommodate Corvette or as an OPV version, depending on the operational requirements. The S-80 allows longer range and endurance for extended periods with reduced detection risks, making it ideal for diverse applications and missions. Similar to the current Naval vessels of Israel Shipyards, the new Corvette is also supporting unique possibilities of deploying Special Forces units.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, is helping hunters to reject gun control’s accusations that Modern Sporting Rifles (MSRs) aren’t meant for hunting. Nothing could be further from the truth. Today’s hunters have plenty of options when it comes to hunting, and MSRs fit right in.

Now, NSSF has teamed up with The Confluence Group for hunters to proudly show off their 2022 hunting season photos with AR-platform rifles and be entered for a chance to win a Mississippi Deer or Louisiana Hog Hunt.

Entering is easy as sharing.

1. Take a photo while hunting using an MSR.

2. Post the photo to Instagram including #LetsGoHunting in the caption.

3. Submissions are reviewed to ensure they meet requirements.

MSRs & Hunting

Hunters have been using the latest advancements in technology and tactics for centuries.
