A recent cyber operation linked to North Korea has revealed a new layer of sophistication in the use of artificial intelligence for malicious purposes. According to findings from Genians Security Center (GSC), the North Korean threat group known as Kimsuky used AI tools to generate deepfake images of South Korean military ID cards as part of a targeted spear-phishing campaign.

The attack, which began in mid-July, aimed to compromise individuals with ties to defense, human rights, and North Korean policy. Victims received emails that appeared to request feedback on draft versions of military identification documents. These messages were accompanied by content on topics such as North Korean economic conditions and political investigations, likely crafted to enhance the message’s credibility.

Attached to the emails was a ZIP archive containing a shortcut file. When opened, this file ran concealed commands that executed a series of steps to download and install malware. These included decoding obfuscated PowerShell commands, connecting to command-and-control servers hosted in South Korea and France, and retrieving additional malicious files. Among the files was an AI-generated military ID image, created using ChatGPT.

The use of deepfake ID cards marks an evolution in Kimsuky’s tactics. While the group has previously used phishing and document lures, the integration of AI-generated visuals adds a layer of realism that may increase the success rate of attacks.

GSC researchers linked the campaign to previously observed Kimsuky techniques, such as the “ClickFix” method, which mimics CAPTCHA pop-ups to deliver malware. Analysis showed that the same malware variants used in earlier campaigns were reused in this operation.

The incident is part of a broader trend in which North Korean actors leverage AI for cyber operations. Recent reports have also highlighted the use of AI to create fake job applications and video interviews as part of efforts to infiltrate foreign companies. South Korean authorities have issued warnings to local businesses about the risks of inadvertently employing these operatives.

The campaign underscores how AI is becoming a key enabler of more convincing, targeted, and persistent cyber threats—particularly in state-sponsored espionage activities.

First of Four MQ-9Bs Is Now in Place and Operating at Florennes Air Base

SAN DIEGO – 24 September 2025 – Following its arrival in August at Florennes Air Base, the first of four MQ-9B SkyGuardians^® ordered by Belgian Defence from General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) made its maiden flight in Belgium on September 23.

“This event ushers in a new era of information dominance for Belgium,” said GA-ASI CEO Linden Blue. “MQ-9B is the world’s premiere remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) system, delivering intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) in a high-endurance unmanned platform.”

The first flight in Belgium follows a busy year of preparation for the aircraft. The RPA completed Acceptance Test Procedures in July at GA-ASI’s test facilities in Southern California, which included the actual first flight of the aircraft in February. In parallel, 18 Belgian Air Force personnel completed initial MQ-9B training that took place at GA-ASI’s Flight Test & Training Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and live flight training at its Desert Horizon Flight Operations Facility in El Mirage, California.

“With the MQ-9B SkyGuardian, Belgium enters a new era of ISR capability. This achievement reflects not only technological progress, but also the strength of our collaboration with General Atomics—built on mutual understanding, trust, and a shared commitment to operational excellence,” said Air Chief, Major General Geert De Decker.

Belgium joins the U.K. Royal Air Force (RAF) as the first European countries to take delivery of MQ-9B. MQ-9B recently became the first large RPA to obtain a Military Type Certificate (MTC), which was granted by the U.K.’s Military Aviation Authority earlier this year for Protector (the RAF MQ-9B model). MTC certifies MQ-9B’s safe operation in civil airspace without geographic restrictions, including over populous areas. Countries in Europe and throughout the world are choosing MQ-9B for its multi-domain versatility and exceptionally long range and endurance. The platform provides pole-to-pole satellite control and de-icing capabilities to enable missions in the harsh conditions of the Arctic.

Other countries that have selected MQ-9B include Canada, Denmark, Poland, Japan, Taiwan, India, and the U.S. Air Force in support of the Special Operations Command. MQ-9B has also been featured in various U.S. Navy exercises, including Northern Edge, Integrated Battle Problem, RIMPAC, and Group Sail.

North Carolina Federal Court Dismisses a P320 Lawsuit

Scientific Evidence Proves the SIG SAUER P320 is Without Fault

NEWINGTON, N.H., (September 23, 2025) – SIG SAUER is pleased to announce that a Federal Court in North Carolina dismissed a lawsuit involving its P320 pistol where the plaintiff claimed his pistol discharged without pulling the trigger.

After more than five years of litigation, the judge granted SIG SAUER’s motion for summary judgment and dismissed the case on multiple grounds. Specifically, he found the plaintiff’s liability experts were not qualified to offer opinions about the P320 design and that the opinions they did render were unreliable. Without expert opinion, Mr. Williams was unable to establish the required legal elements to prove his case.

“We are both pleased and unsurprised that accusations concerning the P320 firing without a trigger pull have once again proven to be unfounded in the court of law,” says Kristen Dennison, outside counsel for SIG SAUER Inc. and partner at Littleton Joyce Ughetta & Kelly LLP. This decision affirms the safety, durability, and reliability of SIG SAUER’s P320 pistol.

Nearly twenty separate P320-related cases have been dismissed; repeatedly, scientific evidence proves the pistol is without fault and accusations to the contrary are unsupportable in the court of law. Las Vegas, Nev. (September 2025) – This Suicide Prevention Month, Walk the Talk America (WTTA), the nonprofit dedicated to reducing suicide and stigma related to firearms and mental health, invites all firearm owners to participate in its freshly launched 2A Mental Health Survey.

Open from Sept. 8 at 8:00 a.m. PDT through Sept. 30 at midnight PDT, the survey aims to gather deeper insights about mental health, access to care, and the perspectives of gun owners on relevant policies.

Previous Findings & Continuing the Work

WTTA has already published results from its prior surveys (the most recent from December 20, 2024, to January 31, 2025, and earlier in 2023). These studies revealed key data about mental health beliefs, access to care, and legislative attitudes among gun owners. The new survey seeks to add depth and clarity to those insights.

Join us on Saturday, October 4th, 2025, for the 5th Annual Mogadishu Mile at SIG SAUER Academy, in partnership with the Three Rangers Foundation.

The Mogadishu Mile is the Three Rangers Foundation annual commemoration event of Task Force Ranger and remembrance of the fallen warriors of Operation Gothic Serpent, Somalia, October 3, 1993. The daylight operations began in the afternoon on October 3 and did not end until the final Ranger element departed the city in a running gun battle now known as the Mogadishu Mile the morning of October 4th.

How to Participate:

Participants can complete the one-mile run on its own or take on the added challenge of the Obstacle Course and suggested WOD. No registration required—just arrive at SIG SAUER Academy anytime between 9 AM and 1 PM to take part in this day of remembrance.

XS Sights Hires Leaha Thomas as Commercial Sales Manager

Fort Worth, Texas (September 22, 2025) – XS^® Sights is pleased to announce Leaha Thomas has joined the company as Commercial Sales Manager. In this role, Thomas will oversee the company’s commercial sales strategy, grow aftermarket sales, and manage XS’s customer solutions team.

Prior to joining XS Sights, Thomas was Managing Partner at Bolt Strategies, LLC, where she worked with numerous clients including the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) and International Hunter Education Association (IHEA-USA). A US Army veteran, Thomas has held sales and marketing positions with a diverse range of companies and organizations in the hunting and shooting industry, bringing years of expertise to her role at XS.

D&M Holding Company and DEMCO Sign Strategic Partnership Agreement at DSEI to Develop Propellant and Primer Production Facilities within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

TAMPA, FL (September 22, 2025) – D&M Holding Company, Inc. (D&M), the global leader in delivering complete solutions for ammunition, primer, and propellant manufacturing facilities, and DEMCO Holding Company (DEMCO), a Saudi Arabian defense company, signed a strategic partnership agreement at the General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI) pavilion during the Defense and Security Equipment International (DSEI 2025) event in London. The agreement focuses on developing, constructing, and commissioning state-of-the-art propellant and primer manufacturing facilities in Saudi Arabia.

Under the agreement, D&M and DEMCO will collaborate to deliver single-base and double-base propellant factories as well as a modern primer manufacturing facility to support Saudi Arabia’s defense industrialization goals. The agreement combines DEMCO’s local market knowledge and regulatory expertise with D&M’s technical and project-delivery capabilities.

“We look forward to working closely with our partners to transfer expertise and build sustainable, locally operated facilities that meet Saudi Arabia’s strategic requirements,” said Dan Powers, President and CEO, D&M Holding Company.

The facilities will produce propellants and primers for small, medium, and large caliber ammunition.
