Through its exhibit at DSEI JAPAN 2023, the company will introduce its cutting-edge defense technologies that provide crucial security solutions for the most advanced threats.

Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. has developed, produced and manufactured some of the world’s most sophisticated and commonly used defense systems. RAFAEL’s showcase will feature unique, sophisticated technology that can provide solutions for Japan’s operational requirements. One particular system was just featured for the first time at a global exhibition at the end of 2022: RAFAEL’s high energy laser system, IRON BEAM, which allows for a precise and cost effective interception capability for air defense systems. The system will also be showcased at DSEI 2023.

In the last year the system was tested in a live trial and successfully intercepted UAV’s and other projectiles with the use of a high energy laser. The high energy laser capability has proven its effectiveness and the Israeli MOD has decided to invest in acquiring the technology.

Dealing with aerial threats is a RAFAEL specialty, and the DRONE DOME provides another such layer of protection. The counter drone system has been operationally used to defend airports, critical infrastructure and even been used in worldwide events like the 2021 G7 summit. The system has improved and upgraded with extended ranges and advanced detection, as well as laser capabilities. It is combat proven and operational in the defense services of several countries around the globe.

The dome of defense that RAFAEL offers extends into the cyber domain with CYBER DOME. RAFAEL has a rich legacy in establishing a fortified defense against cyber threats that have been incorporated worldwide. RAFAEL’s cyber defense solutions protect national-level critical services and infrastructure – including the transportation, oil and gas, water and sewage, energy, finance industries – from malicious cyber warfare activities conducted by state actors and independent rogue hackers. RAFAEL was responsible for establishing and leading Israel’s national Cyber Emergency Response Team or CERT program and to provide the cyber defense system to the National Bank of Israel’s Central Credit Register and the Israel Railway’s Authority. SPIKE NLOS precision guided missiles for helicopters enables surgical hits from far beyond enemy range up to an unprecedented 50 km. The SPIKE NLOS 6th Generation allows for an extended range of protection and minimal collateral damage.

RAFAEL’s expertise in precision missiles for helicopters, acquired over more than 2 decades, is based on the globally deployed and combat-proven SPIKE Family of missiles and the experience gained from each successive SPIKE generation. Through close cooperation with customers, RAFAEL has developed a solution for helicopters, precisely adapted to operational needs. The solution’s remarkable new capabilities significantly improve the survivability of both platform and crew, while increasing lethality and preventing collateral damage.

WIZARD functions as an effective passive decoy and corner reflector. This system is a fourth-generation passive decoy designed to generate a legitimate false target for anti-ship missiles that make use of chaff discrimination algorithms.

CYBER DOME is a comprehensive solution tackling advanced cyber threats, campaigns, and challenges. The CYBER DOME architecture is composed of multiple layers of defense – from the traditional up to the most complex – including unique technology for handling multi-classification information and SCADA systems. The CYBER DOME is tailored to address the customer’s real operational needs, to provide an optimal solution to their challenges.

DRONE DOME an operational, off-the-shelf system, ready-to-use anti-drone system, DRONE DOME is an innovative system designed to provide effective airspace defense against hostile and stray drones. NSSF Encouraged by Credit Card ‘Pause’ in Special Firearm Retail Codes

WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, is encouraged by the announcement from Visa and MasterCard that they will “pause” plans to implement a special Merchant Category Code (MCC) specific to purchases at firearm retailers with their credit cards. That announcement was later echoed by American Express and Discover, which previously announced plans to implement the special codes.

This is a positive development that the major credit card companies have recognized the hazards of implementing this special MCC for purchases at a firearm retailer. However, this is an announcement of a pause, not an abandonment of these special codes.

NSSF is committed to ensuring that these specific MCCs not be used at all as they have the potential for exploitation of customer privacy and denial of services by politically-motivated activists. These codes were the product of Amalgamated Bank and Andrew Ross Sorkin to specifically track the lawful purchases of firearms and ammunition by law-abiding Americans.

In reality, it is just the first step, by the admission of these two parties, to isolating and eventually denying the exercise of a Constitutional right by those who oppose lawful firearm ownership. NSSF will continue to work with state legislators and Congress to put an end to this blatantly discriminatory practice of using private enterprise to construct a back-door firearm registry.

GRINNELL, Iowa (March 9, 2023) — Brownells donated $22,222 to three different gun rights organizations as part of the second annual 2A Day celebration held on February 22, 2023.

The organizations receiving a $22,222 check are the Second Amendment Foundation, Gun Owners of America and the Iowa Firearms Coalition.

“As an advocate for the Second Amendment, Brownells takes great pride in supporting the fundamental right of individuals to own firearms,” said Brownells CEO Pete Brownell. “We believe responsible gun ownership is essential to safeguard the liberties and freedoms of all Americans. That’s why we are honored to contribute $22,222 to the Second Amendment Foundation, Gun Owners of America and the Iowa Firearms Coalition.”

Recently, the Second Amendment Foundation has been involved in lawsuits against the ATF’s attempts to regulate items that are not firearms as if they were firearms, New York’s attempt to largely ban concealed carry, and bans on semiautomatic firearms in Illinois.

Gun Owners of America filed suit over the ATF’s attempt to ban pistol braces as well as against anti-gun laws in New York and Oregon.

The Iowa Firearms Coalition helped Iowa amend its state constitution with a guarantee of the right to keep and bear arms and is supporting a state bill that would allow gun owners to keep their carry firearms in their cars when parked at locations that ban carry inside.

Las Vegas, Nev. (March 2023) – Walk The Talk America (WTTA), a non-profit organization designed to bridge the gap between the firearms industry and owners and the mental health industry, is proud to announce the addition of two new members to its Board of Directors. Tonnie Schmidt and Ron Staffieri bring extensive experience and expertise to WTTA’s board and will help guide the organization as it continues to make a positive impact in the firearms community.

“I’m excited for the fresh perspective that Tonnie and Ron will bring to our organization,” said Michael Sodini, founder and executive director of WTTA. “They both have ties to the firearms community and care very deeply about mental health and suicide prevention. Our values and goals for the WTTA mission align perfectly and I’m excited to see what they bring to it.”

Schmidt is a co-founder and co-owner of Delta Defense LLC, the service provider to the U.S. Concealed Carry Association. As a member of the company’s Board of Directors, Schmidt is involved in setting the company’s vision and strategy to ensure the company’s future success. Schmidt works extensively with national and local philanthropic organizations on initiatives related to responsible gun ownership, firearms and mental health, trauma recovery, law enforcement, and Second Amendment advocacy. She is passionate about education that builds children’s self-reliance, resilience, and self-awareness. She considers it her solemn obligation to educate others on the importance of responsible firearms ownership.

Schmidt also serves as a member of the West Bend Community Foundation. She is an advisor for The Volunteer Center of Washington County, Wisconsin, where she previously served as a board member. Schmidt has served two terms as a publicly elected school board member of the West Bend Joint School District No. 1 in West Bend, Wisconsin.

She has three adult children, all of whom carry on her passion for responsible gun ownership through education and training.

“The USCCA is mission-driven to save lives, including those that would be lost to suicide. WTTA is leading the way in normalizing mental health wellness. Our community supports this solution by collaborating with WTTA in our Mental Health and Wellness Video series and offering gun culture training for therapists,” Schmidt commented.

Staffieri is a senior executive with over forty years of professional experience. Staffieri’s professional experience includes Things Remembered (CEO); KB Toys (CEO); Lil Things, a start-up kid’s business (CEO); and Borders Group (President of Waldenbooks, Outlet Stores, Chief Administrative Officer of Borders Group). He has also served on multiple boards, including CSSI, Harold’s Stores, Craft & Hobby Association, Natural Wonders, First Agricultural Bank/Bank of Boston, Norman Rockwell Museum, Adelphi University, and the Parent’s Advisory Board at the University of Texas.

Staffieri is married with five children. He received his BBA and MBA from Adelphi University. He was the president of the SAE fraternity, a three-year starting member of the baseball team, a four-year member, and a squash team captain. Staffieri was elected to the Adelphi Hall of Fame in 1997. He received multiple academic and athletic awards. He also attended the Harvard Executive Management program.

“I have joined the WTTA board because I believe in their mission. I am passionate about the subject of mental illness and hope to help in raising the awareness of this all-important subject,” Staffieri commented. “My experience in running companies and serving on boards should give WTTA the additional support needed to fulfill its mission.”

WTTA, the brainchild of Sodini, a firearms industry veteran, spearheaded a movement within the firearms industry to bridge the gap between mental health and responsible firearm ownership to reduce suicide by firearm and gun violence. Through educational programs, podcasts, and training programs, WTTA is paving the way for educating mental health professionals about gun culture and breaking down the negative stigmas around mental health for gun owners. Through its various programs and offerings, such as instructional flyers and slides for firearms instructors, classes in Cultural Competence, and Introductory Courses in The Intersection of Guns and Mental Health, WTTA is leading the conversation and opening doors throughout the firearms industry and mental health industry.

NSSF Celebrates $1.6 Billion Apportioned to States for Conservation

WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, celebrates the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s (USFWS) announcement that $1.6 billion is being apportioned to state conservation and wildlife access programs, driven mostly by firearm and ammunition manufacturers. The record-setting distribution of funds is derived from the Pittman-Robertson and Dingell-Johnson excise taxes paid by the firearm and ammunition industry, as well as the angling industry.

Nearly $1.15 billion of the $1.19 billion of those funds are directly sourced from firearm and ammunition excise taxes paid by manufacturers. Firearm and ammunition manufacturers have paid over $25.38 billion into the fund since its inception in 1937, when adjusted for inflation. These funds directly contribute to wildlife conservation through the Wildlife Restoration Act (also known as the Pittman-Robertson Act) and provides funding for conservation programs, increased access to public lands and hunter education.

“The firearm industry is tremendously proud of the contributions we make to conserving our wildlife and the habitats wildlife need to thrive for generations to come,” said NSSF President and CEO Joe Bartozzi. “Our industry is at the forefront of wildlife conservation. Each time a recreational shooter or hunter purchases firearms and ammunition, they are supporting the manufacturers that pay these taxes to ensure America remains the gold standard for sustainable conservation and wildlife management.”

The Wildlife Restoration Trust Fund, commonly known as the Pittman-Robertson fund, is funded by excise taxes paid by firearm and ammunition manufacturers on their products, as well as archery equipment manufacturers. The excise tax is set at 11 percent of the wholesale price for long guns and ammunition and 10 percent of the wholesale price for handguns. The excise tax, paid by manufacturers and importers, applies to all firearms produced or imported for commercial or federal law enforcement sales, whether the purpose is for recreational shooting, hunting or personal defense. The tax is administered by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) of the Department of the Treasury, which turns the funds over to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS).

USFWS deposits the Pittman-Robertson revenues into a special account called the Wildlife Restoration Trust Fund administered by the USFWS. These funds are made available to states and territories the year following their collection based on a statutory formula. These 10 to 11 percent excise tax dollars collected since 1937 under the Pittman-Robertson Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act are specifically designated to be used by state wildlife agencies for conservation and related purposes. Collectively, purchasers of firearms and ammunition, hunters and the firearm and ammunition industry are the greatest source of wildlife conservation funding.
