RIVERTON, Wyo. (April 4, 2023) — Author Jen Selinsky once wrote, “The promise of spring’s arrival is enough to get anyone through the bitter winter!” During winter’s dark months, a hunter’s thoughts turn to spring – and for many, that means black bear hunting. Harvesting a black bear means more than just a cool rug. When properly cared for in the field – you field dress and care for the meat just as if it were any treasured deer, elk, or other big game animal — and prepared with care at home, bear meat is both delicious and good for you. In general, bear meat has a taste similar to venison, though it is often a little sweeter tasting than meat from ungulates. It has a dark red color, and in terms of texture, it’s close to pork, though with a slightly coarser grain.

And just like a deer, elk, or wild boar, one of the tastiest cuts of black bear is the backstrap. One of the best ways to prepare a black bear backstrap is to smoke it using the new Smoked Bear Loin Roast recipe featuring Hi Mountain Rib Rub from Hi Mountain Seasonings. Made from a delicious blend of paprika, dehydrated garlic, salt, dehydrated onion, honey granules (refinery syrup, honey), black pepper, mustard, cayenne pepper, and soybean oil, Hi Mountain Rib Rub adds a robust flavor to your bear loin that makes it stand out from more traditional preparation methods.
The process is simple. All you need is one trimmed black bear backstrap, one can of coffee-flavored beer, Hi Mountain Rib Rub, salt, fresh ground coffee, ½ cup maple syrup — and your smoker or pellet grill. Make sure to trim any fat from the backstrap, then place it in a nonporous container, add the coffee beer, and marinate it in the refrigerator for a couple hours. Remove, pat dry with paper towel, and apply salt to taste on all sides of the roast along with a liberal amount of Hi Mountain Seasonings Rib Rub and coffee grinds on all sides as well. Place it in a nonporous container and place in the refrigerator for a couple of hours. Remove from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about an hour. While you’re doing that, preheat the smoker or the smoker pellet grill to 250 degrees. Place the bear meat in the smoker/pellet grill. During the smoking process glaze the roast with some maple syrup on both sides of the roast. Smoke it until the internal temperature of the roast hits160º F. Slice it thin and enjoy!

Mobile Bus Ads Would Remind Viewers It’s Illegal to Lie and Buy a Gun for Someone Else

ST. LOUIS — St. Louis Metro Transit has rejected a public awareness advertising campaign to remind the public it is illegal to lie on a firearm background check verification form to purchase a gun for someone who cannot legally do so on their own.

As part of the firearm industry’s ongoing national effort to help prevent illegal “straw” purchases of firearms, NSSF® – The Firearm Industry Trade Association – purchased billboard, radio, streaming radio service and online digital advertisements for the “Don’t Lie for the Other GuyTM” program in key locations throughout the greater St. Louis region with the message: “Buy a gun for someone who can’t and buy yourself 15 years in jail. Whatever you do … Don’t Lie for the Other Guy.” The one-month campaign is now underway, is funded entirely by the firearm industry and will total nearly 43 million gross media impressions.

“Don’t Lie” is a cooperative program between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Department of Justice (DOJ) and NSSF.

Metro Transit buses were originally planned to be included as a significant portion of the campaign. ATF chose St. Louis for this special campaign.

“It is unfortunate St. Louis Metro Transit rejected our efforts to combat illegal straw purchases of firearms by refusing to place our ‘Don’t Lie’ posters on buses. There is nothing controversial about the ads. Everyone wants to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and people who should not have them,” said Lawrence G. The public awareness campaign drives home the message that anyone attempting an illegal firearm purchase faces a stiff federal felony penalty of up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000, as well as an additional 15 years in prison if the straw purchase is made with the intent of trafficking across state lines. The “Don’t Lie” program also assists local firearm retailers by providing resources so they can be better educated and prepared to detect and deter potential illegal straw purchases.

MQ-9A Used for Live-Fire and Simulated Exercises

SAN DIEGO – 30 March 2023 – General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) is working with the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) on a series of Service-Level Training Exercises (SLTE) using a company-owned MQ-9A Unmanned Aircraft System to support the Marine Air-Ground Task Force Training Command (MAGTFTC). The SLTE 2-23 is being conducted near Twentynine Palms, Calif. with participation from Joint Forces. The training ensures participants are prepared for the future dynamic environment.

Contracting the use of MQ-9A enabled USMC to begin integrating Group 5 unmanned aircraft into the Marine Air-Ground Task Force for the first time within the various exercises. GA-ASI began flying the MQ-9A on Feb. 3, 2023, with a combination of GA-ASI and VMU-3 pilots and sensor operators. The aircraft flew out of GA-ASI’s facility at the Yuma Proving Ground, Ariz., with flights over training ranges in Southwest-Continental United States (CONUS). The MQ-9A is providing its proven Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) data package – including GA-ASI’s Lynx® Multi-mode Radar – to provide the USMC with extraordinary situational awareness and simulated close air support.

“GA-ASI is always ready and willing to support the USMC exercises,” said GA-ASI Vice President of DoD Strategic Development, Patrick Shortsleeve. “We know that being able to utilize an actual MQ-9A is critical to the success of these exercises and helps the USMC ramp-up their training program.”

The SLTE Program consists of a series of exercises, including the live-fire Integrated Training Exercise (ITX), Marine Littoral Regiment Training Exercise (MLR TE), and Force-on-Force (FoF) MAGTF Warfighting Exercise (MWX). MAGTFTC executes the SLTE Program, which includes simulated and live-fire armed exercises, to enhance the readiness of the Fleet Marine Forces and support the Marine Corps’ responsibilities to national security.

GA-ASI was contracted by the USMC in 2022 to deliver eight MQ-9A Extended Range (ER) UAS as part of the ARES Indefinite-Delivery/Indefinite-Quantity (ID/IQ) contract.

March 2023 – The Federal Office for Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology, and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) has awarded Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) a contract for the production of ten new type PzH 2000 self-propelled tank howitzers. The two parties signed the contractual agreement in Berlin today. Delivery of the systems is scheduled to begin in 2025. They will replace the German artillery`s self-propelled tank howitzers, which were recently handed over to Ukraine as part of military support operations.
The agreement concluded today also includes options for the production of a total of 18 additional PzH 2000s in three lots of six systems.
Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, a member of the German-French defense technology group KNDS, leads the European market for highly protected wheeled and tracked vehicles. St. Louis Campaign Targets Illegal Gun Purchases

NSSF, ATF, DOJ Emphasize ‘Don’t Lie for the Other GuyTM’

ST. LOUIS — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, together with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Department of Justice (DOJ), announced a month-long public education campaign reminding the Greater St. Louis area public about stiff penalties facing individuals convicted of unlawful firearm purchases. The “Don’t Lie for the Other Guy” campaign is in its 23rd year and drives home the message that anyone making an illegal firearm purchase faces a federal felony penalty of up to 15 years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines. An additional 15 years can be added if the illegal straw purchase is made with the intent of trafficking across state lines. The program is funded in full by the firearm industry and will now also include federal funding allocated to ATF by Congress. St. Louis was chosen for this specific campaign by ATF.

“The firearm industry has always been fully committed to keeping firearms out of the hands of those who should not possess them. We are proud to launch this public awareness campaign in St. Louis and of our more than two-decade cooperative relationship with ATF, DOJ and the entire law enforcement community to assist them in their efforts to reduce criminal acquisition of firearms,” said NSSF President and CEO Joe Bartozzi.

The St. Louis area “Don’t Lie” campaign will total nearly 43 million gross media impressions. This includes more than 25 outdoor billboards, digital bulletin boards and posters in key locations throughout the region with the message: “Buy a gun for someone who can’t and buy yourself 15 years in jail. Don’t Lie for the Other Guy.” The campaign also includes more than 1,000 radio spots and more than 2.5 million targeted geofenced online mobile advertisements on Facebook and Instagram.

To legally purchase a firearm, a person must pass an FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check System verification, or NICS check, and fully comply with all state and local laws. When a criminal is illegally trafficking in firearms or knows they cannot pass this check, they may try to induce a friend or acquaintance to make the purchase for them. This is an illegal straw purchase and is a felony.

The “Don’t Lie for the Other Guy” program also involves educating firearm retailers to better detect and prevent illegal straw purchases by providing “Don’t Lie for the Other Guy” retailer kits containing a training video and information for storeowners and staff, as well as point-of-purchase displays aimed to deter illegal straw purchasers.

Bond Arms® Brings A Heavy Hitter to the Market with the Cyclops .45-70

Granbury, TX (March 29, 2023) – Bond Arms® is well known for producing some of the best quality derringers in the North American market. Not only do their handguns come in a wide range of calibers, but they make a statement, and the manufacturing of these derringers is second to none. And yet, Bond Arms® is exceeding expectations again. While derringers are often considered small rimfire calibers and expand into standard pistol calibers, including some magnum cartridges, they don’t usually come chambered in a traditional rifle caliber. That is, until now.

Announced at SHOT Show 2023, Bond Arms began production of a .45-70 derringer named the Cyclops. Coming in at 28 oz, the Cyclops is built stronger and more durable than ever. This 4.25 in. barrel is fitted into a single action frame and is only the first release in a new series of big bore derringers slated to be released in 50 AE, 454 casull, and 44 magnum.

This model does vary from other pistol options from Bond Arms. Unlike the traditional over/under staple, the Cyclops is a single shot only. The lack of a secondary chambering adds additional weight to the pistol and mitigates some felt recoil in a cartridge as large as the .45-70. It comes with an extended and proprietary B6 resin grip. Changes have been made to the grip to make it more ergonomic and easier to shoot. These sights are no different than most Bond Arms’ options and fixed to the frame and barrel.

The Cyclops comes in at a mesmerizing 6.75 in. overall and a hefty 7 lb trigger pull. This handgun is a TON of fun to shoot. So, if someone wants to make a statement at the range, the Cyclops is the perfect derringer!

Many of the Bond Arms® barrels can be swapped to various frames. The Cyclops frame will not be compatible with the Hand Cannon, Stinger, or Stinger RS barrels.

Arizona Governor’s Veto Embraces ‘Woke’ Discrimination Over State Businesses

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Arizona’s Gov. Katie Hobbs sided with “woke” Wall Street corporations over Grand Canyon State businesses and protecting the free exercise of rights when she vetoed Senate Bill 1096, the bipartisan Firearm Industry Nondiscrimination (FIND) Act.

The FIND legislation would have ensured firearm-related businesses have fair access to financial services and corporate entities wouldn’t benefit from taxpayer-funded contracts while using those profits to discriminate against constitutionally-protected firearm businesses. The legislation would have made corporations ineligible for state or municipal contracts if they hold discriminatory policies against firearm businesses. The legislation was strongly supported by NSSF – The Firearm Industry Trade Association.

In essence, the legislation would have enabled Arizona to choose to do business with those companies that do not discriminate based on an industry they may not like or with which they disagree. The legislation was passed by the state Senate 16-13 and by the state’s House of Representatives 31-29.

“Governor Hobbs chose to allow Arizona businesses to be subjected to out-of-state discriminatory policies that put special interests over business success,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “This shows state residents that their governor’s loyalties are with Wall Street’s ‘woke’ agenda and not with protecting homegrown businesses or protecting the Second Amendment rights of Arizona’s citizens.”

Gov. Hobbs issued a statement claiming the legislation was “unnecessary” and urged “the legislature to focus on providing real solutions to the real challenges faced by our state.” It is the firearm industry that executes a campaign called Real Solutions. Safer Communities.® that works to ensure firearms remain beyond the reach of those who cannot be trusted to possess them.

That dismissive statement ignores the reality that Arizona businesses are being targeted by corporate entities discriminating against Arizona businesses based on politics. The veto came on the same day Gov. Hobbs’ spokesperson, Josselyn Berry, posted an image on Twitter showing a woman holding handguns, adding “Us when we see transphobes.” The post was made following the tragedy in Nashville and has since been removed from Twitter for violating Twitter’s rules, but Gov. Hobbs has refused calls to fire Ms. Berry.

This veto, coupled with the vile and violent threats, exposes the animus the Hobbs administration holds for the firearm industry and Arizonans’ Constitutional right to keep and bear arms to protect themselves against violence. NSSF condemns the use or threat of violence by anyone against innocent lives.
