Brownells Hosts 2-Time NCSSAA National Champion Shotgun Team
GRINNELL, Iowa (April 13, 2023) — Brownells hosted the William Penn University shotgun team Wednesday, April 12, to celebrate their second consecutive NCSSAA National Championship at the Division IV level.
The Statesmen of Oskaloosa, Iowa, claimed their latest national title in March in Las Vegas, Nevada, topping 10 other teams with 1,423 clay targets broken out of a possible perfect score of 1,500 in Skeet, Trap and Sporting Clays combined.
Midland University and Concordia University, both located in Nebraska, finished second and third respectively at the 2023 national championship.
Back-to-back national titles in any college sport is impressive, but accomplishing it in only the third year of the team’s existence is a feat rarely equaled at any level of competition.
“This group of young adults is nothing short of amazing, both in the classroom and on the field,” said Steve Heaton, head coach of Men’s and Women’s Shotgun Sports at William Penn. “The drive and passion they have for the task in front of them is indescribable. They succeed to the best of their ability at everything.”
“It has been impressive watching many of these young men and women hone their skills through our local scholastic shooting teams to become collegiate national champions,” said Brownells CEO Pete Brownell. “Many of the 2022 and 2023 D IV William Penn shotgun champs are from communities Brownells employees and family members call home.”
Included on the winning roster are Jarrett DeKoning and Liam Saunders of Grinnell, Iowa, Dryden DeKoning of Newton, Iowa, and Noah Seeley, Carver Van Zee and Dominick Ver Meer of Pella, Iowa.
All told, 17 of William Penn’s 33 listed shotgun shooters hail from the Hawkeye State.

NSSF Applauds Mississippi Governor Signing Second Amendment Financial Privacy Act
Law Bans Credit Card Tracking Code for Firearm Retailer Purchases
WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, applauds Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves for signing the Second Amendment Financial Privacy Act, HB 1110, into law. This law takes the necessary steps to ensure that financial institutions and credit card companies are prohibited from sharing customers’ private financial information when purchasing firearms, ammunition and other related components and accessories. The Second Amendment Financial Privacy Act is necessary to prevent the potential exploitation of customer privacy and denial of services by politically motivated activists.
“This is a tremendous victory for the firearm industry and those law-abiding Mississippi gun owners who lawfully exercise their Second Amendment rights,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “Certain ‘woke’ banks advocated to use a special Merchant Category Code specific to purchases made at firearm retailers, risking the possibility of creating a ‘back-door’ firearm registry. NSSF opposed the creation and administration of this firearm retailer specific MCC and we are grateful to Mississippi’s legislators and Governor Reeves for standing with the firearm industry and law-abiding gun owners to protect the privacy of their financial transactions.”

The blemished guns are AR500 rifles or pistols that have minor imperfections in the material that do not meet BHA’s strict standards and will be offered at a discounted price, while the canceled order lever action rifles are in-stock guns that were made to order by customers who canceled their orders during the production process. Both types of firearms will be offered to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. This is a great opportunity for big-bore enthusiasts to get their hands on a BHA firearm without the typical wait time.
“We are excited to offer our customers the opportunity to purchase blemished AR500s at a reduced price and avoid the typical order wait times by picking up a canceled order lever action,” said Greg Buchel, president of Big Horn Armory. “These guns are still of the same high quality that our customers expect from us, and we want to make them available to those who may be looking for a great deal or don’t want to wait for one to be built. During the gun-building process, a blemish, although rare, may occasionally occur in the material that does not meet BHA’s strict standards. However, these guns still maintain the fine fit and finish that BHA is known for. To compensate for the blemish, BHA will now offer these AR500s to its customers at a reduced price. In most cases, the blemish is small and often unnoticeable, similar to a wear mark that a gun may acquire when used in the field. These blemished guns are sold “as is” with no backorders or options allowed.
The first blemished firearm available from BHA is an AR500 rifle with a cosmetic blemish. Regularly $2,399, the MSRP for this particular rifle is $1,999 (a $400, or 17 percent, savings). Chambered in 500 Auto Max, BHA’s groundbreaking AR500 Rifle is the most powerful AR firearm available. These firearms are completed and ready to go out the door to their new owner. The first offering in BHA’s canceled custom orders is a Model 90A chambered in .454 Casull. It is an M90A16-26 with a 16” barrel and Collector Grade Walnut. This beautiful firearm is offered for sale at $6,699.

Further expanding beyond the lever action rifles and shotguns synonymous with the Henry name, the Henry Big Boy Revolver is both a historic release that collectors will relish as an exceedingly rare opportunity to own the first bonafide handgun made by the long gun manufacturer and the perfect sidekick for owners of the Henry Big Boy rifle. Chambered in .357 Magnum/.38 Special, the traditional double-action revolver is available in two different grip configurations – the larger, flared Gunfighter style or the more compact, rounded Birdshead style. The Big Boy Revolver borrows design cues from its rifle counterpart with deep and polished blueing on the medium-sized steel frame, 6-round quick-release cylinder, and 4” barrel, grip panels cut from genuine American walnut, and a polished brass trigger guard that wraps all way around the grip to the top of the backstrap. The fixed notch rear sight and interchangeable front blade sights with different heights provide a traditional revolver sight picture. MSRP is $928.
Developed in partnership with Remington Ammunition and optimized for use in lever action rifles, the new .360 Buckhammer straight wall cartridge provides extended range, higher velocity, more energy, and a flatter trajectory than the competition for hunters of whitetail deer and other medium-sized game. With the ammunition rolling out nationwide, Henry is bringing the first rifles chambered for the new caliber to market with the Henry Steel Lever Action .360 Buckhammer and the Henry Lever Action X Model .360 Buckhammer. Sharing the same matte blued steel receiver and 5-round capacity between them, differences between the two models are most notable with the furniture. The X Model variant sports durable black synthetic stocks with M-Lok and Picatinny accessory slots, while the Steel Lever Action version uses checkered American walnut. Other differences include a 5/8×24 threaded barrel and fiber optics sights on the X Model version. MSRP is $1,057 for the Steel Lever Action .360 Buckhammer and $1,091 for the Lever Action X Model .360 Buckhammer.
In 2003, the Big Boy was born after receiving enormous demand to make a pistol-calibered version of the flagship Henry Golden Boy .22. Twenty years later, the Big Boy and Henry’s other brass-framed centerfire lever action rifles are getting an overhaul to include one of the most requested features, a side loading gate, useful for keeping the magazine topped off while on a hunt or at the range. These rifles retain their original removable inner magazine tube as a quicker, safer way to unload the firearm. With the predecessors getting phased out as inventory depletes, the sweeping change affects 21 individual models, including some engraved editions and larger calibers like .30-30 and .45-70, all of which feature a polished hardened brass receiver, buttplate, and barrel band, genuine American walnut stocks, and the iconic blued steel octagon barrel.

The Stinger RS, in all calibers, is a unique design and is purpose-built for discreet carry or range efficiency. The 2.2 in. barrel and 5/16 thickness are well suited for any type of carry need. From pocket, IWB, to OWB, it fits all types of form and function. Coming in at 4.5 in. overall length, 3.75 in. high, and 13.3 oz, it’s small and lightweight.
Sights are a standard fixed blade and integrated notch on the receiver itself. There is no trigger guard, so it is easy to acquire a target and pull the 7 lb trigger without the worry of finding the trigger in a high-stress situation. Part of the Rough Series of pistols from Bond Arms, Stubby makes up where other pistols were unable to fill in.
The grip is Bond’s standard size with a thin nylon material making up grip scales. Holding two rounds, the 9mm Stubby is nothing to overlook. The Stinger RS may be a last-ditch pistol capable of firing standard loads, but it’s an efficient last-ditch pistol with the firepower to match potential needs. This is a special review in that I’ll be looking at two items selected by the U.S. Border Patrol and developed by GLOCK and Streamlight to meet the specific needs of the organization, so it’s only fitting that I review these back-to-back in May for readers.
GLOCK 47 MOS
In 2019, GLOCK Inc. developed the G47 for US Border Patrol as part of an $85 million contract consisting of three pistols G26, G19 and G47 to replace the Heckler & Koch’s P2000 in .40 S&W. The new G47 is a Gen 5 design compatible with the G17 magazines; although similar to the G17 MOS, the G47 was built on a G45 frame and will accept a G19 Gen 5 slide. The G47 did not become commercially available until 2023.

GA-ASI FLIES MQ-20 AVENGER® AUTONOMOUSLY USING LEO SATCOM DATALINK
SAN DIEGO – 11 April 2023 – On April 6, 2023, General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) conducted live, tactical, air combat maneuvers using Artificial Intelligence (AI) pilots to control a company-owned MQ-20 Avenger® Unmanned Aircraft System. Collaborative maneuvers between human and AI pilots were conducted using GA-ASI’s Live, Virtual, Constructive (LVC) collaborative combat aircraft (CCA) ecosystem over a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communication (SATCOM) provider’s IP-based Mission Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) datalink. The LEO SATCOM connection was also used to rapidly retrain and redeploy AI pilots while the aircraft was airborne, demonstrating GA-ASI’s ability to update AI pilots within minutes.
This marks the first deployment of a LEO SATCOM provider connections running on an operationally relevant unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) platform. The team used two L3Harris Technologies RASOR Multi-Functional Processors (MFPs) – one that housed the transceiver card and another that controlled the BLOS Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA). The test aircraft was outfitted with a Ball Aerospace BLOS AESA system, capable of full duplex operation. The demonstration highlighted GA-ASI’s commitment to operationalizing CCA by fusing innovative future warfare technologies, such as GA-ASI’s AI pilots and LVC ecosystem, and L3Harris and Ball Aerospace BLOS datalink solutions.
“The flight demonstrated GA-ASI’s unmatched ability to fly autonomy on real, tactically relevant, unmanned combat aerial vehicles,” said GA-ASI Senior Director of Advanced Programs Michael Atwood. “It displayed effective BLOS Command and Control through the collaboration between three defense primes. This showcases our rapidly maturing CCA mission system suite and moves us one step closer to providing this revolutionary capability to the warfighter.”
GA-ASI leveraged its end-to-end CCA ecosystem for the flight that fused third-party capabilities, human-on-the-loop control, and autonomy to enable effective human-machine teaming for 21st century conflicts. Operator commands were captured via hands on throttle-and-stick (HOTAS) controls and were sent via LEO SATCOM to AI pilots running Reinforcement Learning (RL) algorithms. AI pilots autonomously tracked and maneuvered around dynamically, and updated entities specified via HOTAS. Operators were provided updates from AI pilots on a cockpit heads-up display and could dynamically re-task via HOTAS as the mission evolved. In addition, data from agent performance was collected and sent to the ground where agents were retrained to improve performance, and then redeployed via LEO SATCOM in a matter of minutes.
This is another in an ongoing series of technology insertion and autonomous flights performed using internal research and development funding to prove out important concepts for UAS.

The New Scorpion 3+ Carbine From CZ-USA, Adaptable for any Situation
Kansas City, KS (April 11, 2023) – First released to the US public in pistol form – the new Scorpion 3+ Carbine has been developed based on consumer feedback and military and law enforcement personnel. This rifle rounds out the popular Scorpion 3+ semi-automatic firearm platform.
The 16.3-inch barrel rifle is offered with two stock configurations. This configuration employs the iconic Scorpion EVO folding stock, keeping true to the design users have come to love. Three adjustment points allow the user to adjust the length of pull to meet their needs.
Ambidextrous controls are the gold standard in current firearms. The Scorpion 3+ includes an ambidextrous AR-style mag release and bolt catch/release. These controls have shifted position from the EVO 3 for easy-to-find, intuitive operation – essential in high-stress situations!
Users will notice a notch in the magazine that accommodates the new mag release. New Scorpion 3+ magazines are also backward compatible with previous generations of the Scorpion. A redesigned grip ensures no issues with the safety of contacting fingers. A straightened grip improves ergonomics and control. The M-LOK handguard makes adding your favorite attachments simple.
A re-engineered magwell features a recessed front radius on the lower receiver, adding more purchase on the handguard with gloved hands. The Scorpion 3+ sight’s lower ⅓ co-witness with a standard height red-dot optic allows users to easily have an unobstructed view of the target over the iron sights.
The Scorpion 3+ is available in three variations. The micro features a 4.2-inch barrel, the pistol model features a 7.8-inch barrel, and the carbine offers a 16.3-inch barrel. All three utilize cold-hammer-forged barrels for accuracy. The micro is an extremely compact pistol for maneuverability in tight quarters. The longer-barreled pistol model has improved ballistic performance (over the micro) in a slightly bigger package, and the carbine is for those looking to add a stock without the need to SBR their Scorpion.

By providing attendees the opportunity to buy directly with our new process, we have reduced the amount of time it takes to get the application submitted by days or, in some cases, weeks.
As always, customers will receive a free NFA gun trust, get photos and fingerprints taken at the booth, setup a no fees, no-interest payment plan for just $199 down, and now they will also certify and submit their eForm 4 application on-the-spot.
