Bundeswehr orders upgrade of 143 Puma infantry fighting vehicles
19 April 2023 – Germany’s Federal Office for Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) has awarded Projekt System & Management GmbH (PSM), a joint venture of Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and Rheinmetall, an order to retrofit a further 143 Puma infantry fighting vehicles. In doing so, the German government is exercising two options contained in the contract for retrofitting original Puma infantry fighting vehicles to the new S1 design status. This contract was signed in June 2021.
The order volume is in the region of €770 million. By 2029, the key capabilities of firepower and command and control of all 143 Puma systems will be brought up to date. Exercising these options assures that every Puma in the Bundeswehr inventory will conform to the uniform S1 design status. Among other things, the retrofit includes integration of high-resolution day- and night-capable camera systems, the MELLS multirole-capable lightweight guided missile system, and digital radio equipment.

Firearm Industry Economic Impact Rises 322% Since 2008
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The total economic impact of the firearm and ammunition industry in the United States increased to $80.73 billion in 2022 from $19.1 billion in 2008, a 322 percent increase, while the total number of full-time equivalent jobs rose to over 393,696 from approximately 166,000, a 136 percent increase in that same period, according to a report released by the NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association.
On a year-over-year basis, the industry’s economic impact rose to $80.73 billion in 2022 from $70.52 billion in 2021. Total jobs increased by over 17,877 in the same period, to 396,696 from 375,819. The firearm industry has broader impacts throughout the economy. It supports and generates business for firms seemingly unrelated to firearms, at a time when every job in America counts. These are real people, with real jobs, working in industries as varied as banking, retail, accounting, metalworking and printing among others.
The firearm and ammunition industry paid over $7.48 billion in business taxes, including property, income and sales-based levies. An additional $1.15 billion was paid in federal excise taxes, which directly contributes to wildlife conservation.
“Our industry’s economic input is undeniably contributing to every state and every community. This milestone achievement of over $80 billion in economic impact proves that the American firearm and ammunition industry is strong,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF President and CEO. “Ours is an industry that is consistently growing and innovating to meet the American demand for the highest quality firearms and ammunition for lawful firearm ownership. Over 4.2 million Americans from all walks of life, for the first time, discovered and exercised their right to lawful firearm owners and safely participate in the recreational shooting sports last year. This growth equals more jobs that add to our local economies, averaging $65,000 in wages and benefits, up from $56,900 reported last year. Since 2008, federal tax payments increased by 266 percent, Pittman-Robertson excise taxes that support wildlife conservation by 226 percent and state business taxes by 46 percent.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, applauds U.S. Sen. Steve Daines’ introduction of S. 1185, the Protecting Access for Hunters and Anglers Act, which would prohibit U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS), Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and U.S. Forest Service (USFS) from banning the use of traditional lead ammunition and tackle absent approval by the applicable state fish and wildlife department and proof that lead ammunition and tackle is primarily causing wildlife population decline. The legislation has 24 Senate co-sponsors.
“This legislation ensures that conservation policies are firmly rooted in sound scientific evidence and not driven by special-interest anti-hunting groups. Threats to wildlife conservation come not only from groups opposed to hunting, but also through policies that threaten the primary source of conservation funds,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “Federal rules that prohibit the use of traditional lead ammunition on National Wildlife Refuges are devoid of any scientific evidence that shows a causational linkage between the use of traditional ammunition and a population level decline of a species. These misguided policies only seek to divorce the firearm and ammunition industry, and the hunters that support these conservation funds by purchasing these products, from the wildlife and habitats these tax dollars are responsible for perpetuating. NSSF commends Senator Daines for his leadership to ensure the American Wildlife Conservation Model remains the gold standard for the world to emulate.”
NSSF denounced the USFWS Final Rule it published in 2022 that offered sportsmen and women a “bait-and-switch” deal to open hunting and fishing opportunities in 18 National Wildlife Refuges (NWRs), but banned the use of traditional lead ammunition and fishing tackle. The Final Rule offered no scientific evidence of detrimental population impacts to support banning the use of traditional ammunition, despite promises by the Biden administration to “follow the science.”
Firearm and ammunition manufacturers pay a 10 and 11 percent excise tax to the Wildlife Restoration Trust Fund, commonly referred to as the “Pittman-Robertson excise tax.” The firearm and ammunition industry was directly responsible for $1.15 billion Pittman-Robertson taxes of the record-breaking $1.6 billion apportioned to the states through the USFWS for state conservation and education programs in 2022 alone. Since 1937, the firearm and ammunition industry has paid over $25.38 billion into the fund since its inception in 1937, when adjusted for inflation.

RAFAEL will demonstrate the actual systems consisting of sophisticated constructive simulation software connected to a Virtual Strike Cell simulation all using the ABS-LVC Platform. Foretrex 801 and 901 units support external ANT+ sensors and are compatible with Garmin devices, like inReach®. When paired with a compatible inReach device1, users can receive inReach messages directly on the unit and if needed, trigger an interactive SOS to the 24/7 Garmin-staffed Garmin ResponseSM Center. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) as the 2022 NSSF Legislator of the Year for his determined commitment to protecting the firearm industry against attacks that threaten the lawful commerce of firearms in America and jeopardize the Constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens. Additionally, his commitment to preserving the Constitutional rights of law-abiding gun owners, hunting, public lands access and conservation set him apart as a leader in Congress.
“We are honored to present Senator Daines with the 2022 NSSF Legislator of the Year Award for his unwavering leadership in the U.S. Senate to protect the firearm and ammunition industry, lawful gun owners, hunters and sportsmen and women,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “Senator Daines’ leadership to ensure fairness in business, reasserting Congress’ role in ensuring the federal government isn’t picking marketplace winners and losers based on politics, protecting gun owners, hunters and sportsmen and women’s rights and public lands access is commendatory. Senator Daines is an example to be emulated.”
Sen. Daines introduced the Firearm Industry Nondiscrimination (FIND) Act in 2022, S. 4435, legislation to ensure firearm-related businesses have fair access to financial services and corporate entities wouldn’t benefit from taxpayer-funded contracts while using those profits to discriminate against constitutionally-protected firearm businesses. He has since reintroduced the FIND Act in the 118th Congress as S. 428. The legislation would make corporations ineligible for federal contracts if they hold discriminatory policies against firearm businesses.
Sen. Daines fought against anti-hunting special interest influence over the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) with the introduction of The Protecting Access for Hunters and Anglers Act, S. 4940, legislation to prohibit Secretaries of the Departments of the Interior and Agriculture and their agencies from banning the use of traditional lead ammunition and fishing tackle absent approval by applicable state fish and wildlife departments and proof that their use is primarily causing wildlife population decline. The legislation worked to ensure that the best conservation practices are grounded in sound science and not driven by the political agendas of special-interest anti-hunting groups.
That legislation was introduced after Sen. Daines led 26 Senators warning U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) Director Martha Williams not to buckle to politically-driven agendas to ban the use of traditional ammunition and fishing tackle on National Wildlife Refuges (NWRs), encompassing over 2.3 million acres of public land. Director Williams ignored the warning to acquiesce to hunting and angling restrictions for hunters and anglers.
Today, Sen. Daines reintroduced the NSSF-supported Protecting Access for Hunters and Anglers Act in the 118th Congress.
Looking to protect law-abiding gun owners, Sen. Daines introduced the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act in 2022 to protect those who live in a concealed carry or Constitutional carry state to carry concealed firearms in other states. Your Second Amendment right to carry a firearm for self-protection does not end at your state’s border.

Rao II Expeditions is a tool that, thanks to its structure and despite its compactness, guarantees the same functionality and characteristics of a much bigger and more robust product.
It has a desert-coloured handle and sheath as any other model of the Expedition Series.
It has a BÖHLER N690 (58HRC) blade steel with MIL-C-13924 burnishing and a superficial stone washed finishing (DARK STONE finishing).
Rao II Expeditions has ergonomic handle scales with rounded upper angles, and a drop point blade.
It is inspired by the RAO model with tanto blade, which has been employed by the Italian 185° Rgt. Ricognizione e Acquisizione Obiettivi “FOLGORE” (185° RAO).
The new Expedition Series folding knife can be easily used for heavy duties also thanks to its extremely sturdy locking mechanism, which is supported by a safety that turns it into a proper fixed blade.
There is a threaded steel pin to be hand-screwed through two holes by the guard section of the massive Anticorodal aluminum handle; this was added to guarantee 100% resistance of the locking mechanism due to the heavy use and the violence of the blows caused by the mass of the tool.
Maximum safety is guaranteed for the user by screwing the pin in this seat.
All models in the Expeditions Series are equipped with desert-coloured sheaths and, among its various tools, with a firesteel for lighting fires.
RAO II Expeditions is no exception and comes with a desert Cordura sheath which is an essential component of the carry system.
This particular sheath allows to carry the knife with the blade closed by placing it in the specific front pocket, or with the blade open by inserting it in the dedicated compartment which has a safety system consisting of a strap with double clips.
In addition to the firesteel there is also a diamond sharpener.
The MOLLE fixing system of the sheath allows it to be carried on tactical vests and generic belts.

The duty finish doesn’t draw attention and is highly durable. An inverted top rib cuts down on glare. And the fixed Novak-style front night sight and serrated tactical rear sight, co-witness with the red dot as a backup.
The frame sports an integral 1913 Picatinny rail for mounting lights or lasers. Front strap 25 LPI checkering improves grip, and an undercut trigger guard enhances recoil control, while the recessed slide stop allows laser grip installation. The Specialist has operator-friendly ambidextrous thumb and grip safeties.
An extended magazine release and extended magwell speed reloads of its 8-round magazines. Its long solid trigger with serrated face gives a traditional look and feel. A 3.5-5 pound factory trigger also delivers a consistent, crisp trigger squeeze for accurate shooting. The Specialist uses a set of G10 VZ Operator II grips that guide the hand into the beavertail and hold it there.

NSSF Praises Governor Noem’s Order to Stop ‘Woke’ Banking Discrimination Against Firearm Industry
WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, praises South Dakota’s Gov. Kristi Noem for signing an Executive Order prohibiting state agencies from entering into contracts with corporate banks that discriminate against the firearm industry.
Governor Noem’s order will prevent “woke” corporate banks with discriminatory policies against firearm industry members from collecting taxpayer dollars through South Dakota state contracts. Simply put, South Dakotans will choose to do business with those companies that do not discriminate based on an industry these corporate banks may not like or with which they disagree.
“Governor Noem’s Executive Order is a significant bulwark against the ‘woke’ discrimination that threatened firearm businesses in South Dakota,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “South Dakotan’s tax dollars will be protected from being used to fund gun control efforts by these corporate banks that benefit from state contracts while denying essential services to firearm-related business simply because they are politically-disfavored by Wall Street. Governor Noem’s order is clear. The Second Amendment isn’t for sale in South Dakota.”
Gov. Noem’s order will require corporate banks and financial service providers with $100 billion in total assets seeking contracts valued at $100,000 or greater to certify that they hold no discriminatory policies against firearm industry businesses. Contracts that are certified and later discovered to be out of compliance with the Executive Order will be subject to cancellation.

NEWINGTON, N.H., (April 14, 2023) – SIG SAUER Electro-Optics is proud to introduce the ROMEO-M17 pistol mounted red dot sight. Developed from the ground up for the U.S. Army’s Modular Handgun System to be the ultimate in performance, reliability and durability. The ROMEO-M17 is designed specifically to fit U.S. Military Modular Handgun System M17/M18 pistols, M17/M18 Commemorative Special Editions and M17/M18 Surplus pistols with a single hole in the slide to secure the sight plate. It does not fit standard P320 or commercial P320-M17/M18 slides. Commercial variations of compatible pistols and slides will be available in the coming months.
“The fully sealed ROMEO-M17 is the next revolution in red dot optics; it answers the call to withstand the rigors of the battlefield and works seamlessly with the U.S. Army’s Modular Handgun System,” said Andy York, President, SIG SAUER Electro-Optics. “The ROMEO-M17 is the first red dot sight to incorporate SIG SAUER’s patent pending SIG-LOC™ mounting system. SIG-LOC (Leveraged Optimized Connection) features a new proprietary bottom-mount technology that has multiple interface features between the pistol slide and the optic that provides for an extremely strong and robust lock-up. This new mounting system, when combined with the side mounted battery on the ROMEO-M17, allows the optic to have an extremely low position when mounted to the slide, giving the user a full sight picture and co-witness with the existing standard-height iron sights. This sight was engineered, tested, and built in Oregon to be the ultimate aiming solution for the MHS pistols.”
The SIG SAUER Electro-Optics ROMEO-M17 is a mil-spec, fully enclosed and gas-purged red dot reflex sight with a distortion-free glass aspheric lens, and is submersible to depths up to 35 meters. Other features include a new and very robust flexure-arm adjustment system made of the same Beryllium Copper found in many riflescope designs, and a housing that is forged and machined from 7075 Aluminum with an integrated loaded chamber indicator (LCI) gas deflector and machined anti-reflection grooves on all rear facing surfaces for reduced glare. The optic incorporates a high-efficiency point source red LED emitter, with 2 MOA dot/32 MOA circle reticle, independent brightness adjustment buttons, 15 brightness settings including night vision settings, and a side-mounted CR2032 battery compartment with a threaded battery cap so the optic does not need to be removed from the pistol for battery changes. The ROMEO-M17 has a minimum continuous runtime of 50,000 hours at medium brightness setting, and utilizes MOTAC™ (Motion Activated Illumination), MAGNETAC™ (Magnetic Activation), and D.A.R.C™ (Dark Adaptive Reticles & Coatings) technologies.
