Industry Day at the Range with Italy’s HTI.CENTER
My first exposure to HTI.CENTER, an Italian firearms manufacturer based in Milan was at Industry Day. At their booth I had the opportunity to learn about their magnificent bolt action long guns. New to their product portfolio is an AR style rifle chambered in .277 SIG FURY (6.8X51). The company’s HTI XPR, XLPR AND ANTI-MATERIAL XXLPR RILES, bolt guns guarantee 0.125 MOA accuracy. The XPR is a multi-caliber rifle for short actions up to 308W caliber, XLPR is a multi-caliber rifle for long actions up to .375 CheyTac caliber and the XXLPR is multi-caliber rifle for magnum (anti-materials) actions up to 14.5×114 mm caliber.

WASHINGTON – Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas is a ‘No Drone Zone’ for Super Bowl LVIII. Drones also are prohibited around several additional locations during the days leading up to the event. Drones will be restricted during the following times and days:
Game Day, Sunday, Feb. 11
Restrictions begin at 11 a.m. PST within two nautical miles around the stadium up to 2,000 feet in altitude.
The restrictions expand between 2:30 until 8:30 p.m. PST to a 30-nautical-mile radius and up to 18,000 feet in altitude.
Before Game Day, Feb. 5-9
Restrictions around Allegiant Stadium on Feb.5, for one nautical mile up to an altitude of 1,000 feet from between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Restrictions around Resorts World on Feb. 8, for one nautical mile up to an altitude of 1,000 feet from between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Revelyst, a segment of Vista Outdoor Inc. (NYSE: VSTO), is in the process of separating into a standalone public company, with an expected execution date later this year. As part of this process, Revelyst is working to unlock its potential by directing resources to better meet consumer demand, synergizing and prioritizing strength in supply chain, and doubling down on the equity and innovation of the company’s industry-leading brands.
Revelyst launched GEAR Up in the fiscal third quarter, quickly actioning the plan to simplify the company’s business model, deliver increased efficiency and profitability from that simplified structure, and reinvest in its highest potential brands to accelerate growth and transformation. These actions are in motionand will have an estimated $100 million of realized annual cost savings by fiscal year 2027. This is in addition to the previously announced $50 million cost restructuring program, of which $25 million in savings was specifically related to Revelyst, for a total of $125 million in expected run-rate cost savings.
The company continues to make progress on GEAR Up and is executing against the previously outlined goals. GEAR Up actions announced today include:
Expanding select roles to take on cross-brand scope as the company identifies synergies across each platform.
Bringing together teams at dedicated platform locations to drive the culture necessary to achieve brand goals.
Eliminating duplicative roles as the platforms consolidate.
As part of these measures, the company will close offices in Petaluma, California; Overland Park, Kansas; Eagle, Colorado; and Madison, Mississippi. Revelyst is consolidating teams across core locations, including:
The Adventure Sports platform, led by Jeff McGuane, will consolidate in Irvine, California.
The Outdoor Performance platform, led by Jordan Judd, will consolidate in Bozeman, Montana.
And the Precision Sports and Technology platform, led by Jon Watters and Scott Werbelow, will consolidate in San Diego.

SAN DIEGO – 01 February 2024 – General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) successfully demonstrated an inflight release of its Advanced Air-Launched Effects (A2LE) platform, releasing an A2LE from the internal weapons bay of a GA-ASI MQ-20 Avenger® Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS). The demonstration took place on Nov. 28, 2023, over Dugway Proving Ground, Utah, capping a manufacturing, structural test, and flight demonstration.
GA-ASI’s design and engineering team partnered with Divergent Technologies, Inc. for the A2LE vehicle design and build, matching GA-ASI’s aircraft design expertise with the Divergent Adaptive Production System (DAPS™) to support rapid, low-cost manufacturing of the demonstration vehicle.
“This demonstration was a crucial first step in demonstrating GA-ASI’s ability to rapidly develop, manufacture, and test a Small Unmanned Aircraft System (SUAS) in a controlled, low-risk approach,” said Mike Atwood, vice president of Advanced Programs at GA-ASI. “A2LE demonstrates the coupling of GA-ASI’s pedigreed aircraft design capabilities with Divergent’s DAPS, paving the way for continued maturation of affordable, modular SUAS platforms that can be tailored to meet warfighter needs at a fraction of the cost and lead time of currently fielded systems.”
The demonstration vehicle airframe was 100 percent additively manufactured and was designed to meet the captive carriage and ejection loads of the jet-powered aircraft with internal weapons bays. The topology-optimized AM structure was validated via proof and pit ejection testing prior to the flight demonstration. The demonstration highlighted the design efficiencies that can be realized when AM is incorporated early in the design process and throughout the vehicle. It was also a key step in validating the AM process and material properties for incorporation in future systems to be employed by both manned and unmanned platforms.
GA-ASI’s A2LE platform builds on its extensive experience in developing SUAS. It provides a low-risk, low-cost, tailorable solution that bring affordable mass to the warfighter, with modular payload provisions to meet the requirements of current and future mission objectives. A network of A2LEs could create a persistent, expansive grid for surveillance, attack, enemy air defense suppression, or communication pathways, supporting and elevating capabilities of current and future manned or unmanned platforms.

WASHINGTON – The FAA is now partnering with several companies to offer drone pilots more places to receive official airspace awareness information.
The FAA’s B4UFLY service shows recreational drone flyers where they can and cannot fly.
The FAA has approved four companies to provide B4UFLY services through desktop and mobile applications. Approved companies will offer multiple ways to access B4UFLY and bring recreational flyers the latest airspace awareness information directly from the agency.
Drone pilots can also find FAA approved partners who provide near-real time airspace authorizations and information here.

MKS Announces Ophir BeamSquared® SP204S M2 Beam Propagation Analyzer, a CMOS-based System that Measures CW and Pulsed Lasers in Less than One Minute
January 30, 2024 – Andover, MA – MKS Instruments, Inc. (NASDAQ: MKSI), a global provider of enabling technologies that transform our world, has announced the Ophir® BeamSquared® SP204S M2 beam propagation analyzer at SPIE’s Photonics West 2024. The BSQ SP204S is a robust, portable device that helps users optimize laser performance automatically and accurately. It measures the propagation characteristics of CW and pulsed lasers with Rayleigh length up to 20 meters in less than one minute. The system uses CMOS camera technology to deliver higher spatial resolution, better sampling accuracy, and improved SNR (signal to noise ratio) than CCD-based cameras. Designed for continuous use applications, from scientific research to laser manufacturing to fabrication and machining, the BSQ SP204S measures wavelengths from 266nm to 10.6µm, including CO2 and terahertz.
“Laser manufacturers and system integrators rely on fast and accurate caustic measurements in order to understand the laser beam’s quality, or focusability,” said Reuven Silverman, General Manager, Ophir Photonics. “The use of CMOS technology in the BeamSquared SP204S beam propagation analyzer brings a new level of performance across all levels of measurement. This includes increased sensitivity, reduced smearing effect, improved performance at all caustic parameters, and higher accuracy in NIR wavelengths. This means users can measure smaller beam sizes more accurately. The system is also ISO 11146 compliant, so users can trust the data.”
The BeamSquared SP204S M2 system includes the BeamSquared software, an optical train, and a CMOS camera. The software measures beam propagation characteristics on both the X and Y axes, including waist diameters, full angle divergences, waist locations, Rayleigh lengths, M2 or K and BPP factors, astigmatism, and asymmetry. The system displays 2D or 3D beam profiles for visual verification of beam behavior through focus. Functions include a 3D slice display and the ability to add 3D displays to reports. Reports can also incorporate a beam caustic chart, in addition to setup information, laser measurements, and a variety of statistics. An Automation interface via .Net components allows users to build custom applications that incorporate the laser beam analysis and processing power of the BeamSquared system.
All BeamSquared systems can be mounted horizontally or vertically to optimize bench space. Each is equipped with conventional focusing lenses of 400-600mm. Specially calibrated 750mm and 1000mm lenses are optionally available for use with long Rayleigh range lasers (20m) that involve both a long-waist location and small focal spot size.
