RICHMOND, Va. These include the man who shot Osama Bin Laden, former Navy SEAL Robert J. O’Neill, as well as Mark Dambrosio, Nick Johnson, and Nina Rogers.

While Robert J. O’Neill is best known as the man who fired the shots that killed Osama bin Laden, he is much, much more than that. One of our most highly decorated combat veterans, O’Neill served on SEAL Team Two, SEAL Team Four, and eight years on the legendary SEAL Team Six. He has taken part in and led over 400 combat missions worldwide and has been decorated 53 times. including two Silver Stars for gallantry in action against the enemy, and four Bronze Stars with Valor to denote heroism against the enemy. Rob took part in the rescue for Operation Red Wings, which extracted the Lone Survivor, Marcus Luttrell and he was a Team Leader for Operation Neptune’s Spear, the mission to kill Osama bin Laden. He is the author of the NY Times and London Times best-selling memoir “THE OPERATOR: Firing the Shots that Killed Osama bin Laden,” and “My Years as a SEAL Team Warrior.” O’Neill will be in the WATCHTOWER booth Tuesday, January 23 from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM. He will be speaking, signing books (if you bring one), and taking photos.
Mark Dambrosio, a 37-year-old avid outdoorsman, joined the Marine Corps at 22 and spent nearly 10 years conducting operations for the recon and sniper communities. From 2012-2016, he was the chief instructor for the Marine Corps Mountain Scout Sniper and Mountain Survival courses. Today, he is a Professional Precision Shooting Backcountry Instructor & Wine
Entrepreneur. In 2017, Mark started International Mountain Survival, where he teaches individuals and groups how to shoot, hunt, and survive — think military special operations mixed with expert backcountry instruction. In addition, in 2021, Mark started his own winery in Washington state called The Woodsman Selection. With each interactive wine bottle, he hopes to encourage people to get outdoors and try their hand at archery, hunting, survival, and fishing. When Mark isn’t working, he can be found spending his free time with his 5-year-old son Max. Mark will be in the WATCHTOWER booth for the duration of the show.
Nick “Pew View” Johnson grew up on a farm in northern Iowa, where he learned how to become an efficient shooter and hunter. He got his first .22 revolver and 16-gauge shotgun at age 8. At age 14, he won his first skeet shooting competition. At age 15, Nick started doing trick shooting. In 2018 Nick started recording his unorthodox way of shooting and posting it on social media, reaching over one million followers on TikTok. Today, Nick supports his family and employs others by doing what he loves — shooting and testing firearms, winning competitions, recording TV shows and firearms-related commercials, and keeping the American people entertained and well informed. Johnson will be in the booth on Thursday, January 25, from 11:00 AM until noon. He will also be doing range time with some lucky shooters. Tickets for the range shoot will be given out at the booth Tuesday, and Wednesday. Ten lucky winners will be drawn on Thursday during his talk. One of the 10 shooters will walk home with the new WATCHTOWER Apache double stack 1911 handgun.
Nina Rogers has been passionate about the great outdoors since she was a young girl growing up in East Tennessee. She learned gun safety, marksmanship, and fieldcraft very young, which she believes has enabled her to build a strong and successful career in the outdoors. Nina is renowned for her expertise in the hunting and fishing industry, mentoring fellow outdoors enthusiasts and educating younger generations on the importance of conservation. When asked about her outdoor lifestyle, she often states, “I take pride in the fact that I’m teaching safety and responsibility to the next generation.” With her commitment to gun safety, proper firearms handling, and stewardship of the environment, Nina Rogers truly embodies the spirit of the outdoors. NSSF’s Firearm Ownership & Sports Shooting Participation Survey Reveals American Firearm Use

WASHINGTON, D.C. – NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, released the Firearm Ownership & Sport Shooting Participation in the U.S. in 2022 report. The report highlights 24.1 percent growth of adult participation in sport shooting in America from 2009 to 2022. Surveys indicate that during that time, sport shooting participation grew from 34 million adult participants to over 63.5 million.

Key survey findings showed the most popular types of recreational sports shooting for adult participation in 2022 were target shooting with a handgun, at 16.9 percent, target shooting with a rifle, with 15.6 percent and target shooting at an outdoor range, at 13.3 percent. The report also indicated that recreational target shooting at indoor ranges recovered to pre-COVID 19 levels, after an unsurprising dip during which pandemic protocols suppressed indoor shooting range participation. In 2022, 17 percent of all adults participating in the shooting sports were newcomers, a 42 percent growth since 2020 that reflected the similar changes in demographics as seen in firearm purchasers. Today’s recreational marksmen and women are more representative of a broader scope of American demographic groups, increasingly urban and represented by women.

“These are encouraging figures that are consistent with the other trends we see in the monthly FBI background checks and industry production reports reflecting growth in firearm ownership. Safe and responsible firearm ownership goes hand-in-hand with regular participation in the shooting sports,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF’s President and CEO. “Proficiency, accuracy and safe firearm-handling skills are learned and sharpened through regular and consistent shooting sports participation. Whether firearm owners shoot recreationally or competitively, recreational shooting sports are for everyone and makes our community of firearm owners safer, more responsible and more inclusive.”

The Firearm Ownership & Sports Shooting Participation Report follows similar findings in other NSSF reports, including the monthly NSSF-Adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Checks System (NICS) data and the Firearm Production in the United States report recently made available to NSSF members. The Firearm Ownership & Sports Shooting Participation Survey report also underscores the value and importance of NSSF’s +One ® campaign to grow shooting sports participation in the United States. If hunters and target shooters in America dedicate themselves to introducing someone new to the shooting sports, participation would double.

‒ GA-ASI Combines Waveform X Capabilities With Diverse DoD Autonomy Skills Providers to Advance Its UCAV Ecosystem

SAN DIEGO – 16 January 2024 – General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) demonstrated its hardware-agnostic, open standards-based autonomy ecosystem for Unmanned Combat Air Vehicles (UCAVs) on a GA-ASI MQ-20 Avenger® as part of a live flight test on Nov. 13, 2023. The flight included three software-defined radios (SDRs) from L3Harris Technologies to support Line-of-Sight (LOS), command and control, and data movement capabilities via Waveform X.

One SDR, an L3Harris’ Pantera, was integrated into the MQ-20 unmanned aircraft, and a second was on the ground working in concert with a third L3Harris SDR, BANSHEE 2, which was on the ground as part of the Mission Control Element, forming an IP-based Mesh Network. The demonstration showcased Waveform X, a non-proprietary U.S. government-owned communications capability, and the ability to fly, flip, fly flight hardware as part of the Open Mission Systems (OMS) and skills based unmanned autonomy ecosystem.

The flight demonstrated the ability to rapidly plug and play both U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force (USAF) autonomous unmanned technologies together. It further leveraged autonomy from three separate sources: government-provided human-machine interface (HMI) hardware, GA-ASI’s autonomy core, and orchestration of these components using Waveform X.

Autonomy skills were used to meet multiple objectives for collaborative combat missions and close the Find, Fix, Track, Target, Engage, and Assess (F2T2EA) engagement chain using a mix of Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) entities. The flight, which took place at GA-ASI’s Desert Horizon Flight Operations Facility in El Mirage, Calif., illustrates the company’s commitment to maturing future Autonomous Collaborative Platform (ACP) technologies using the MQ-20 as a flying test bed.

“This flight underscores GA-ASI’s commitment to proving combat operational readiness for defense contractor products such as L3Harris’ Pantera and BANSHEE 2 radios, as well as open, vendor-agnostic autonomy architecture for UCAV platforms,” said GA-ASI Vice President of Advanced Programs Michael Atwood. “This most recent test shows multi-service compatibility of the autonomy core through the integration of USAF and Navy software skills, bringing us one step closer to government-owned, skills based interservice ecosystem for ACPs.”

Another important goal of GA-ASI’s flights is to demonstrate the company’s commitment to developing an open government standards-based autonomy ecosystem that enables rapid integration and validation of third-party tactical software applications. GA-ASI is focused on supporting the emerging government-managed App Store-based model that allows organizations to rapidly develop and deploy software while maintaining safety of flight and ensuring warfighters have up-to-date access to the industry’s best capabilities.

SIG SAUER Academy Adds Mossberg Armorer Classes to Course Schedule

NEWINGTON, N.H., (January 15, 2023) – SIG SAUER Academy, the leading provider of the highest quality firearms instruction and tactical training in the world, is pleased to announce the addition of Mossberg 590/500 Armorers classes to the 2024 course schedule.

The Mossberg 590/500 Armorer course focuses on the mechanical functioning, disassembly/reassembly, maintenance, troubleshooting, and field repair of the Mossberg 500/590 Shotgun. This is a hands-on program that teaches and guides each participant in a step-by-step process through all armorer operations. The course is well suited for civilians to learn the mechanics, care and maintenance of their Mossberg shotgun, and law enforcement armorers that want to design and/or support their agency’s own maintenance and inspection program.

Mossberg 590/500 Armorer is a one-day course with several 2024 upcoming course dates to include February 15, March 13, and April 10. Students that complete this course will receive a three (3) year factory Mossberg Armorer certification.
