Vista Outdoor’s Sporting Products Announces New Name as Company Separation Nears

Following the spinoff of its Outdoor Products business, Vista Outdoor will be rebranded as The Kinetic Group, whose name, logo and NYSE ticker “HUNT” were unveiled today along with an inspirational video in an employee town hall in Lewiston, Idaho.
Sporting Products President and CEO Jason Vanderbrink revealed the new company name, logo and ticker symbol while re-emphasizing ammo leadership, community support and conservation.
The new name of the Outdoor Products company will be released in the coming weeks.
ANOKA, Minn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Vista Outdoor Inc. (NYSE: VSTO), the parent company of 41 renowned brands that design, manufacture and market sporting and outdoor lifestyle products to consumers around the globe, today announced its new name and identity that will be effective following the planned spinoff of Vista Outdoor’s Outdoor Products business.
Post-spin, Vista Outdoor will be rebranded as The Kinetic Group, a name that surfaced among employees during the naming process and represents the energy behind the company and its leading ammunition brands. The Kinetic Group will trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the stock ticker “HUNT,” and the brand will feature original logo artwork of a North American ram. Sporting Products leaders unveiled The Kinetic Group’s branding to employees during an employee town hall on Aug. 10 at the CCI-Speer ammunition factory in Lewiston, Idaho.
“The performance of our products is so often measured in energy on target. Kinetic energy is the force behind our world-class brands and exhibits the spirit of the 4,500 American workers who represent our company,” said Jason Vanderbrink, Sporting Products President and CEO. “The process of developing a new company name and identity has been exciting and inspiring. We’re all proud of the brands we represent and the products we make in our four American factories. Harnessing the enthusiasm of our employees throughout this process was pivotal to coming up with the best name and logo as we move closer to becoming a standalone company.”
After careful review of hundreds of name options and logo iterations, Vista Outdoor is now one step closer to completing the strategic separation of its Sporting Products and Outdoor Products segments.
“The Kinetic Group will be our name moving forward after the separation and be used for corporate identity to bring employees and stakeholders together with a common purpose and strategic approach,” Vanderbrink said. “To hunters and shooters, their favorite brand of ammunition will take center stage as it always has — they’ll look for CCI, Federal, HEVI-Shot, Remington and Speer on the shelf, at events and online.”

The rebranding of Sporting Products is one of several milestones for Vista Outdoor as the company plans to separate its Sporting Products and Outdoor Products segments. In the Sporting Products segment, Vanderbrink was named CEO of the segment in April to go along with his title of President. In July, he was appointed to the Vista Outdoor board of directors, and he will be a director on The Kinetic Group’s board of directors post-spin. Joining Vanderbrink on The Kinetic Group’s leadership team are Andy Keegan (CFO) and Jeff Ehrich (General Counsel and Corporate Secretary).
In the Outdoor Products segment, Eric Nyman will begin as CEO of the segment on Aug. 21, and he will be CEO of the new Outdoor Products company post-spin. The new Outdoor Products company will be led by Nyman and a dedicated management team that he will hire. Vista Outdoor will announce the name of the new Outdoor Products company in the coming weeks, followed by the unveiling of the company’s branding at Investor Day in October in New York City.
Gary McArthur will continue as interim CEO of Vista Outdoor until the completion of the spinoff. McArthur will focus on completing the separation of Vista Outdoor’s Sporting Products and Outdoor Products segments in calendar year 2023, in addition to overseeing Vista Outdoor’s corporate, administrative and financial reporting functions, risk management, stockholder engagement, and ensuring strategy cohesion and coordination across both segments. McArthur will continue serving on the board of directors of Vista Outdoor until the separation and will become the chair of the Outdoor Products company’s board of directors post-spin.

Separation Update
On May 5, 2022, Vista Outdoor announced that the company plans to separate its Outdoor Products and Sporting Products segments into two independent, publicly traded companies. The company expects to create these companies through a tax-free spin-off of its Outdoor Products segment to Vista Outdoor shareholders.
The company is on track to execute the separation in calendar 2023. The Form 10 has been confidentially submitted to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

EAST ALTON, IL (August 14, 2023) — Winchester Ammunition announces its Top Shot Sub-Junior Program, which awards the top sporting clays shooters in the country as part of the National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA) Championship Tour.
The Top Shot Sub-Junior program will recognize the top 4 competitors and each will receive 25 cases of Winchester AA® target shotshells, as well as a gear package. The year-long points race winners will be announced at the conclusion of the National Championship in San Antonio, Texas, on October 29, 2023.
“The shooting sports is the fastest growing activity among youth in America and the Top Shot Sub-Junior Program is another great opportunity to recognize and reward individuals who participate and compete,” said Jason Gilbertson, director of marketing for Winchester Ammunition.

NSSF Challenges Unconstitutional Illinois Law Attacking Free Speech, Blame-Shifting on Crimes
WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, filed a legal challenge to Illinois’ unconstitutional law that seeks to muzzle firearm manufacturers’ and retailers’ First Amendment right of free commercial speech and to regulate industry members’ commercial conduct in every state of the Union. Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed the Firearm Industry Responsibility Act into law and NSSF immediately filed its challenge.
“The flawed logic of this unconstitutional law is second only to the contempt for which the authors and Governor Pritzker hold for the Constitutionally-protected right of the citizens of his state to keep and bear arms,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF’s Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “This law bans commercial free speech, which is protected by the First Amendment. It also requires firearm manufacturers and retailers to establish undefined ‘reasonable controls’ to prevent criminals from lying on background check forms. The irony is that the firearm industry works hand-in-hand with the ATF and Justice Department to prevent illegal straw purchases of firearms while the governor signs laws that set criminals free on the streets to prey on the innocent citizens of Illinois. Just like Governor Pritzker’s signature on a law banning cash bail, this law empowers criminals and punishes those who obey the law. We are confident that this unconstitutional law will not survive.”
Illinois’ Firearm Industry Responsibility Act criminalizes First Amendment-protected commercial free speech by banning advertising with vague definitions of “intent to appeal to minors.” Gun control politicians in Illinois are attempting to restrict law-abiding citizens from passing on safe firearm handling and shooting skills to the next generation by squelching ability to depict it in advertising. Only adults over the age of 18 can legally purchase a long gun and only adults over 21 can legally purchase a handgun.
This law also victimizes lawful firearm manufacturers and retailers for crimes committed by remote third parties. This law would allow lawsuits against firearm retailers for being the victims of “smash-and-grab” burglaries and robberies.
This law shifts the blame of responsibility for an illegal straw purchase from the criminal committing the crime to firearm manufacturers and retailers. The law requires manufacturers and retailers to employ ill-defined “reasonable controls,” yet each and every retail firearm purchase requires a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Form 4473 to be completed and signed by the purchaser attesting that the intended recipient of the firearm is, in fact, the purchaser. Lying on that form is a federal felony, punishable by up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The firearm industry partners with the ATF and the Justice Department on the “Don’t Lie for the Other GuyTM” program to warn the public of the punishment for this crime. Individuals flouting the law are responsible for their criminal actions and must be held accountable. No business can be held responsible for the illegal and criminal acts of those who consciously choose to violate the law.

Hornady Security RAPiD Vehicle Safe
Grand Island, NE (August 10, 2023) – The Hornady Security RAPiD Vehicle Safe completely changes the game regarding storing firearms and valuables in a vehicle. The RAPiD Vehicle Safe allows users to keep their handguns and other valuables safe without coming at the cost of vehicle modifications. The attached inflatable bladder slides between the center console and the driver’s seat of any vehicle. By squeezing the inflator bulb, the inflation bladder holds enough tension to keep the safe in place. A cable then anchors the safe to a hard point while its padding on one side protects the vehicle from installation damage.
The RFID entry system allows for touchless, fast, dependable entry when users need quick access to their handguns. RFID stickers, key fobs, or watchband tags allow maximum versatility and fast access when the user needs their handgun. The RFID stickers can be placed upon existing key fobs and scanned over the RFID reader to open the safe. The RFID watch band fits most common-sized wrist watches allowing users who do not wish to carry a key fob rapid access to the safe.
The RAPiD Vehicle Safe affords the user two different ways to power the safe. The 12VDC car adapter allows the safe to be powered by vehicle power. For those that do not desire to have or can’t plug the safe in, the safe has the option to get power from four AAA batteries. The two power sources allow for all-time access to the user’s handgun regardless of whether the vehicle is running. The safe can be programmed with a 4-6 digit security code and includes a barrel key for back-up entry in the case of a power failure.
The RAPiD Vehicle Safe exceeds ASTM international safety standards for child and pry resistance, lock strength, drop/pick/saw tests, and high-attack resistance. This affords the user peace of mind knowing that their handgun will be safe from theft, car wrecks, and children tampering with it. With this feature, paired with the 14 ga. steel and two hardened internal locking lugs, the user will have little concern over the security of their handgun.

Baton Rouge, LA (August 10, 2023) – Honing a knife means refining its edge by polishing it, making it sharper, and giving it a shiny finish. Honing removes imperfections, rolls, and nicks from the initial sharpening. As the knife is polished, it sharpens the blade. There is sharp, and then there is the polished sharp only a ceramic hone can give.
Sharpening vs. Honing
Although these words are used interchangeably, they don’t mean the same thing. To sharpen means removing material from the blade to create a new cutting edge. Honing, however, means refining the edge after it’s been rough-sharpened or dinged up by use. Using the ceramic will take out burrs and slight nicks and polish the blade to a slick edge.

The Classic II Ceramic Hone for the Warthog V-Sharp Classic II offers another level of polish on the blades. Once the sharpening is done with the standard diamond hone, 325 grit, sufficient for most sharpening tasks, or higher grade diamond hones like the 600 and 1,000 grits, it is time to refine it with a ceramic hone.
A polished knife has a smooth cutting edge (bevel) that reduces friction when cutting food, especially steaks, chicken, and hard vegetables. The blade will glide right through, offering clean cuts necessary when slicing more delicate food such as fish and ripe tomatoes. A polished knife outperforms a toothy, unrefined edge when push-cutting and is aesthetically pleasing, offering a greater sense of elegance and class than a primitive tool.

GA-ASI OPENS NEW HANGAR AT FTTC IN GRAND FORKS, ND
SAN DIEGO – 10 August 2023 – General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) hosted a grand opening event on August 9, 2023 to mark the opening of its newest hangar at the Grand Sky Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Business Park near Grand Forks, North Dakota. The event included a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of the new hangar at the company’s Flight Test & Training Center (FTTC).
GA-ASI is a global leader in UAS technology, producing the world’s most ubiquitous unmanned aircraft, including the Predator®, Reaper, Gray Eagle, Avenger® and MQ-9B SkyGuardian®/SeaGuardian®. The company has delivered more than 1,000 aircraft during its 30+ years in business. In July, GA-ASI announced that its line of UAS have flown in excess of 8 million flight hours in support of global security.
“We’re excited to open another permanent hangar at our Flight Test & Training Center in North Dakota,” said GA-ASI CEO Linden Blue. “The new hangar represents our ongoing investment in test and training capabilities that provide our customers with a world-class facility to train aircrews in the operation of our aircraft.”
In addition to Mr. Blue, the opening event included remarks from U.S. Senators John Hoeven (R-ND) and Kevin Cramer (R-ND); Grand Forks Mayor Brandon Bochenski; North Dakota Lieutenant Governor Tammy Miller; and GA-ASI President David R. Alexander.
The new hangar will be used for international crew training, aircraft storage, aircraft maintenance and will house two GA-ASI Certified Ground Control Stations (CGCSs) with room to add additional CGCS as required. The FTTC opened in 2016.
“This new hangar is part of General Atomics’ growing footprint in North Dakota. It’s only fitting that General Atomics, the premier private sector trainer of unmanned aircraft pilots, is dedicating this new facility here in Grand Forks, home of the premier school of aviation in the world. We welcome this new investment and the ongoing partnerships that are helping North Dakota lead the way in unmanned aircraft operations,” said Senator Hoeven.
“General Atomics is a proven leader in unmanned aerial systems and a vital partner in North Dakota as we expand our UAS expertise,” said Senator Cramer. “Today’s grand opening celebrates the Flight Test & Training Center, which is essential in addressing the high demand for flight crew training and sensor system testing. Continued investment from General Atomics in Grand Forks illustrates the success of the UAS ecosystem North Dakota has created.”

Since the initial debut of the Hydra system, the company has invested in increased manufacturing capacity. Additionally, the Hydra system is even more modular, with the introduction of the Transforming Handguard©. Now, integration of accessories with M-LOK, Key, or Picatinny locking systems can all be employed on the Hydra Transforming Handguard. In addition, the rifle features a 5.56mm 1:7 twist barrel with a low-profile gas block, the Hydra Modified Bolt Carrier, the Hydra D-Fender D-Ring for increased reliability, and a B5 Systems Bravo stock on a 6-position tube, and a Type 22 pistol grip.
Unlike other rifle systems that claim modularity, what makes the Hydra system truly unique is the ease with which barrel change-outs can occur. No need for special tools either. Barrel change-out uses two locking levers (on the bottom of the fore-end) that rotate 90 degrees and position a cam bar over each side of the barrel’s front. It locks the barrel in place. The lower receiver is designed to easily swap out magazines through their designed and made in-house mag wells, which also require limited tools to exchange.

RAFAEL wins new comprehensive maintenance support services contract with Asian Navy
August 9, 2023 – Tel Aviv – RAFAEL Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. is announcing that it has won a new contract with an Asian nation to provide comprehensive maintenance support services for operational systems employed by its navy.
The multi-year agreement is estimated at 100 million Shekels (30 million dollars) and will include maintenance services for the navy’s TYPHOON and MINI-TYPHOON remotely-controlled naval weapon stations, Naval SPIKE ER and NLOS missile systems, EO surveillance systems, as well as EW Integrated Decoy Systems (IDS).
The services will bolster the technological and operational cooperation between RAFAEL and the user and establish maintenance capabilities for additional systems.

GA-ASI Advances Ecosystem for Autonomously Operational UCAV
GA-ASI ADVANCES ECOSYSTEM FOR AUTONOMOUSLY OPERATIONAL UCAV
Combining Third-Party Autonomy Skills and Government FoX Tablets for Unmanned Combat Air Vehicles to Operationalize Manned-Unmanned Teaming
SAN DIEGO – 09 August 2023 – General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) advanced its ability to operationalize the Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV) ecosystem by combining advanced autonomy and government-provided human-machine interface (HMI) hardware. A GA-ASI-owned Avenger® Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) was paired with “digital twin” aircraft to autonomously conduct Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) multi-objective collaborative combat missions.
The flights, which took place on July 13, 2023, from GA-ASI’s Desert Horizon Flight Operations Facility in El Mirage, Calif., demonstrate the company’s commitment to maturing its UCAV ecosystem for Autonomous Collaborative Platforms (ACP). The ecosystem’s goal is to rapidly integrate best-of-breed capabilities in areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), mission-relevant interfaces, and other capabilities from third-party providers at the speed of relevance for 21st century conflicts.
The team demonstrated Manned-Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T) using the U.S. Air Force’s Project FoX system, which included a touchscreen tablet for fighter cockpits. The tablet provided control and monitoring of advanced autonomy while it conducted a multi-objective combat mission consisting of LVC entities. Mission autonomy capabilities focused on optimized search and signature management. Search optimization autonomy behaviors were provided by Scientific Systems Company, Inc. (SSCI). These skills were integrated into and orchestrated by government-furnished equipment (GFE) autonomy core architecture enhanced by GA-ASI. The flexibility of the GFE autonomy core software stack enabled rapid, seamless integration of one of SSCI’s multi-UAS behaviors. Autonomous trajectories were calculated by SSCI algorithms and subsequently communicated to GA-ASI’s autonomy core for translation to vehicle routes. SSCI provided an array of behaviors using its Collaborative Mission Autonomy suite where the software adapts to mission contingencies such as system failures, connectivity dropout, and combat losses to ensure successful tactical execution.
“The concepts demonstrated by these flights set the standard for operationally relevant mission systems capabilities on UCAV platforms,” said GA-ASI Senior Director of Advanced Programs Michael Atwood. “Our integration of the emerging FoX system accelerates speed to ramp for emerging collaborative air-to-air capabilities. The combination of airborne high-performance computing, sensor fusion, human-machine teaming, and AI pilots making decisions at the speed of relevance shows how quickly GA-ASI’s capabilities are maturing as we move to operationalize autonomy for UCAVs.”
The signature management skill, based on deep reinforcement learning, was developed by GA-ASI. Skill development leveraged GA-ASI’s novel Reinforcement Learning (RL) architecture that was designed using agile software methodology and industry-standard tools such as Docker and Kubernetes. Commanded using the FoX tablet, the RL agent navigated to an operator-identified target while minimizing the radar cross section (RCS). This MUM-T, facilitated via open mission system (OMS) messages and alignment to the newest government architectures, demonstrated real-time operator tasking and supervision of an autonomous platform as it conducted its mission.
The team used a government-furnished autonomy core engine and the government-standard OMS messaging protocol to enable communication between the RL agents and the LVC system. Utilizing government standards such as OMS will make rapid integration of autonomy for UCAVs possible. In addition, GA-ASI used a General Dynamics EMC2 to run the autonomy architecture. EMC2 is an open architecture Multi-Function Processor with multi-level security infrastructure to run the autonomy architecture, demonstrating the ability to bring high-performance computing resources to UCAVs to perform quickly tailorable mission sets depending on the operational environment.
GA-ASI is demonstrating its commitment to maturing an autonomy infrastructure to enable rapid integration and validation of third-party tactical software applications from an App Store and maintaining safety of flight. This is another in an ongoing series of autonomous flights performed by GA-ASI using internal research and development funding to prove out important AI/ML concepts for UAS.
