Fort Worth Campaign Targets Illegal Gun Purchases

NSSF, ATF, DOJ Emphasize ‘Don’t Lie for the Other GuyTM’

FORT WORTH, Texas — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, together with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Department of Justice (DOJ), announced a month-long public education campaign reminding the Fort Worth area public about stiff penalties facing individuals convicted of unlawful firearm purchases. The “Don’t Lie for the Other Guy™” campaign is in its 23rd year and drives home the message that anyone making an illegal firearm purchase faces a federal felony penalty of up to 15 years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines. An additional 15 years can be added if the straw purchase is made with the intent of trafficking across state lines. The program is funded in full by the firearm industry and will now also include federal funding allocated to ATF by Congress. Fort Worth was chosen for this specific campaign by ATF.

“The firearm industry has always been fully committed to keeping firearms out of the hands of those who should not possess them. We are proud to launch this public awareness campaign in Fort Worth and of our more than two-decade cooperative relationship with ATF, DOJ and the entire law enforcement community to assist them in their efforts to reduce criminal acquisition of firearms,” said NSSF President and CEO Joe Bartozzi.

The Fort Worth area “Don’t Lie” campaign will total more than 33 million gross media impressions. This includes an outdoor campaign across 38 high impact billboards and posters throughout the region with the message: “Buy a gun for someone who can’t and buy yourself 15 years in jail. Don’t Lie for the Other Guy.” In addition, the campaign includes 372 radio spots across three top stations in the market and more than 3.3 million targeted impressions across Facebook and Instagram, as well as geofenced mobile display ads.

To legally purchase a firearm, a person must pass an FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check System verification, or NICS check, and fully comply with all state and local laws. When a criminal is illegally trafficking in firearms or knows they cannot pass this check, they may try to induce a friend or acquaintance to make the purchase for them. This is a straw purchase and is a felony.

The “Don’t Lie for the Other Guy” program also involves educating firearm retailers to better detect and prevent straw purchases by providing “Don’t Lie for the Other Guy” retailer kits containing a training video and information for storeowners and staff, as well as point-of-purchase displays aimed to deter illegal straw purchasers.

Barnett was founded in the early 1960s by David Barnett’s Father in the industrial market town of Willenhall, West Midland, England. Mesmerized by the slingshot, he could not wait to kill some vermin with the “Pocket Full of Power.” Armed with marbles, David Barnett set out amongst the overloaded trash bins in the backyards of the local buildings as he set his sights on the numerous Black rats that scavenged in the area.

“One day, I was in luck and hit one so square, it slid up against the wall and started screeching loudly, bouncing up and down until it finally froze still. As I walked over to it with the excitement of the kill, it started screeching loudly again, and to my horror, the ugliest and biggest black rat I had ever imagined ran in and started tearing it apart, 10 feet from me. Looking at me with a bald, fire-burnt red face, it hissed, unflinching and unafraid,” recalled David Barnett.

To this day, half a century later, he still remembers that day so vividly. It wasn’t long after that that the family business started to make slingshots. So, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Barnett and to try to put this “demon” to rest, David Barnett has decided to relive the excitement of a young boy’s adventures with slingshots with the King Rat Slingshot designs.

Raised blinds provide hunters with a better, elevated view of their surroundings, keep the hunter dry, and help conceal scent. EAST ALTON, IL (November 7, 2023) — Team Winchester capped off a tremendous shooting sports season, taking top honors in multiple events at the 2023 National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA) National Championships in San Antonio, Texas.
The National Championship was the final event of the Championship Tour, Powered by Winchester, Winchester Ladies Cup and Winchester Top Shot Sub-Junior Program. All combined, this was the largest sporting clays shoot in the history of the sport with more than 2,300 competitors.
“We congratulate Team Winchester, and all competitors, on another excellent shooting sports season,” said Brett Flaugher, president of Winchester Ammunition. “This event is a prime example of how exciting the shooting sports can be, featuring some of the best sporting clays shooters in the world, the legendary Winchester brand and our famous AA target shotshells.”
Team Winchester was led by Connor Daniel, who defended his Sub-Junior Main Event title, handling some extremely tough targets throughout the week. Eric Harvey also shot an impressive score of 99 out of 100 to claim FITASC champion and 28 Gauge champion. Anthony Matarese was in contention on the final squad of Super Squad narrowly missing the podium for the main event but claiming champion of the 5-Stand event. Desirae Edmunds won the Winchester Ladies Cup Nationals event HOA with strong performances in the Main Event, FITASC and K-Kup, and won third place in the overall annual Ladies Cup points race for 2023.
New for 2023 was the Top Shot Sub-Junior award category, introduced by Winchester Ammunition. This program provides additional recognition and prizes for the top Sub-Junior class of shooters that participate in the NSCA Championship Tour, Powered by Winchester. The Sub- Junior class includes any shooter that has not reached the age of 16 on January 1 of the competition year and is one of the fastest growing categories of participants.

WASHINGTON, D.C. and DETROIT — NSSF, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, and CarbonTV, the nation’s leading streaming content provider of outdoor, hunting, fishing and recreation programming, have announced a cooperative HuntSAFE partnership to promote hunting and firearm safety during the fall hunting season, starting with a new video, “Safety is Always in Season .”

HuntSAFE is a component of NSSF’s Project ChildSafe initiative, which focuses on promoting safe firearm handling, secure storage and preventing unauthorized access. S.A.F.E. is an acronym for Store your firearms responsibly when not in use; Always practice firearm safety; Focus on your responsibilities as a firearm owner; and Education is key to preventing accidents.

“We like to say a successful hunt is one where you get home safely,” says Joe Bartozzi, NSSF President and CEO. “The fall hunting season is a great time to remind everyone of the importance of responsible, ethical and safe hunting, and we’re grateful CarbonTV has partnered with us to get that message out.”

The new “Safety is Always in Season” video features Julie McQueen, President of CarbonTV and host of CarbonTV’s “Outdoor Weekly” program, as she shares seven “rules to live by” when using or handling firearms at home, on the range and especially in the field.

This pistol features engraving with polished flats and a Black DLC finish. The polished flats and DLC give it that classic charcoal blued look but with extreme durability. The diamond walnut grips and 14K gold bead front sight set this pistol apart. Each pistol comes with a custom engraved walnut display box that celebrates Federal’s 100th Anniversary, 1922-2022.

This highly anticipated upper is designed to fit both HK416-style and standard AR-15 lowers.

Assembled from all new components, the BRN-4® Upper comes fully assembled, with the barrel and gas system already installed. All you need to do is add your preferred HK® 416/ MR556 compatible handguard and any 1/2-28 muzzle device, and you’re ready to hit the range.

At the heart of the BRN-4® Upper Receiver is an all new Bolt Carrier Group, featuring a slick nitride finish. The carrier is machined from a single piece of forged 8620 steel and the blot is precision machined from 9310 tool steel, ensuring durability and reliability.

The BRN-4® barrel, produced by Faxon®, is available in various profiles and lengths in 10.4”, 14.5” or 16” to suit your specific needs. Chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO, these barrels are button rifled with a 1-7 twist and come with the appropriate gas block for a given length. Choose between a medium or heavy profile, depending on your shooting preferences. The heavy profile provides a rigid and robust platform for precision shooting, while the medium profile offers a lighter piston configuration without sacrificing barrel stability.

Crafted from billet, the upper receiver of the BRN-4® is meticulously machined to mirror the profiles commonly found on forged upper receivers. The rounded contours and matte black hard coat anodizing give it a sleek and professional look. The longer barrel nut threads ensure a rigid mount, while the proper piston bushing eliminates wear on the aluminum part. The vented gas blocks reduce gas sent rearward into the system, providing a smoother shooting experience.

To complete this exceptional package, the BRN-4® Upper Receiver includes a Magpul ejection port cover and a mil-spec charging handle, providing you with everything you need for a seamless shooting experience.

On 17th November 2022 Extrema Ratio celebrated its first 25 years of activity. Over the last year our company has celebrated this important anniversary by presenting new special editions and limited series dedicated to this major event.
Starting today until 16th November Extrema Ratio will present 4 new limited editions to mark the end of the twenty-fifth anniversary.
Extrema Ratio Misericordia Ranger XXV Anniversarium is a limited edition of only 400 pieces. It features all the characteristics of the famous Misericordia adopted by the 4th Alpine Paratroopers Regiment, which contributed to its development and testing, and chose it for its unique characteristics that make it particularly suited for ambush combat.
Misericordia Ranger XXV Anniversarium joins the limited series that Extrema Ratio has created to mark the end of the twenty-fifth year of activity.
The blade is milled out of Böhler N690 steel, heat treated to 58 HRC for best combination between edge retention and toughness. It is 118 mm (4.65”) long and 4 mm (0.16”) thick with a flat grind. The knife weighs just 87 g (3.1 oz). The blade features a spear-point shape with a full length fuller, which makes it even lighter, and has a false double edge to 3/4 of its length. Its finishing is made with Geotech Camo, the innovative and original laser-engraved pattern by Extrema Ratio.
The grip maintains the typical ergonomic Extrema Ratio profile and is made in glass reinforced nylon to offer maximum toughness under all circumstances, even in the harshest use. The characteristic ring on the pommel helps the soldier get a better grip for a safer and more effective thrust, enhancing exponentially the combat effectiveness of the Misericordia.
Misericordia Ranger XXV Anniversarium Limited Edition comes with 2 sheaths, both in desert colour: the first, made of Kydex, can be attached to a belt clip, Ulticlip and malice clip (optional accessories are sold separately). It is also possible to attach it to the M.O.L.L.E. system webbing by means of a paracord. The second, made of high-resistance Nylon, is equipped with 2 adjustable loops that allow it to be attached to the M.O.L.L.E. system.
Misericordia Ranger XXV Anniversarium Limited Edition is delivered in a weather, dust and shock resistant polypropylene IP67 certified waterproof case with pressurization valve; this includes the Kydex and nylon sheaths, a commemorative coin of the twenty-fifth anniversary of Extrema Ratio and a metal plate bearing the progressive number within the limited series.
