GOVERNMENT OF CANADA ORDERS THE MQ-9B SKYGUARDIAN® RPAS FROM GA-ASI
SAN DIEGO – 19 December 2023 – The Government of Canada has signed a contract to purchase a fleet of MQ-9B SkyGuardian® Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) from General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI). The order includes the associated Certified Ground Control Stations and support equipment from GA-ASI. The first delivery is expected in 2028.
The SkyGuardian RPAS is interoperable with Canada’s domestic missions and its continental defense missions through NORAD, as well as with Canada’s closest allies – including the Five Eyes Alliance (FVEY) and NATO – for seamless integration with current and future Canadian defense, civil air, and ground assets.
“Canada’s vast territory and complex terrains, including in the Arctic, require a cost-effective multi-mission RPAS solution that can endure long periods on station, fly in harsh weather environments, and safely operate in all airspaces,” said Linden Blue, CEO of GA-ASI. “MQ-9B SkyGuardian delivers those critical capabilities. GA-ASI and Team SkyGuardian Canada are honored by this opportunity to become a key partner to Canada for the very long term in delivering these no-fail defense and security outcomes.”
Team SkyGuardian Canada is a coalition of leading Canadian businesses – including CAE, MDA Ltd., and L3Harris Technologies – that are working with GA-ASI on MQ-9B development, delivery, and sustainment. Canada’s investments in the RPAS Project and Team SkyGuardian Canada are a direct reflection of Canada’s vested domestic interest in pursuing leading-edge RPAS technologies.
GA-ASI has had a long, successful, and proud history with Canadian industry that continues to grow. Nearly every system that GA-ASI has delivered throughout its more than 30-year history has contained some level of Canadian content, including sensors, propulsion equipment, and training/simulation systems and services. CAE, MDA Ltd., L3Harris, and GA-ASI are committed to delivering the world’s premier RPAS capability to Canada while creating domestic economic benefits and work opportunities.
MQ-9B is the next generation of RPAS, delivering exceptionally long endurance and range, with auto takeoff and landing under SATCOM-only control, and will be able to operate in unsegregated airspace using the GA-ASI developed Detect and Avoid system. First customer deliveries of MQ-9B began in 2022 to the U.K. Royal Air Force, and contracts have been signed with Belgium and the U.S. Air Force, in support of Special Operations Command. The Japan Coast Guard is currently operating the MQ-9B for maritime operations, which the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) also selected for its Medium-Altitude, Long-Endurance (MALE) RPAS Trial Operation Project. MQ-9B has additionally supported various U.S. Navy exercises this year, including Northern Edge, Integrated Battle Problem, and Group Sail.

Granbury, TX (December 19, 2023) – Grittiness is often a given in the world. While plenty of highly finished and lustrous firearms exist, that grittiness has translated over to the firearms world. There will always be a place for the prettiest firearms with engraving and unique finishes, but that’s not the status quo anymore. No, instead, there’s a lot of firearms that are finished to an adequate and useful standard with the understanding that damage can happen.
Bond Arms has taken a different approach to the hardened use and frill-less manufacturing of firearms. The Rough Series is a line of pistols specifically made to save time and money. Coming in three different models (Grizzly, Rowdy, Roughneck), each design has inherent benefits and upgrades while retaining the expectation of use without worrying about becoming distressed.
Each model has a rough-and-tumble finish. There isn’t excess time spent on high-end polishing and mirror finishes. Instead, the time taken to produce models that inspire poetry is rolled into savings for the consumer. Yet, a reduction of luminous surfaces doesn’t mean expense and quality suffers.
Construction is on par with all other models in the Bond Arms lineup. Both frames and barrels are made from quality, durable and reliable stainless steel. They come in varied barrel lengths, depending on calibers, and can be fitted with matching barrels of alternative calibers. Two-and-a-half and 3-inch barrels can be purchased separately, but the rough series also accommodates standard barrels from most other models.
These rugged and dependable firearms are for the budget-minded user. No sacrifices are made, and no scratch will be labored over. Both the Roughneck and Rowdy come with rubber grips, while the Grizzly features an extended rosewood grip. This rosewood grip allows complete hand placement, pinky and all.

The GUIDE App Proves its Worth as a Critical Tool in Addressing the Law Enforcement Suicide and Mental Health Crisis in Pilot Study Results
More law enforcement officers die due to suicide than in the line of duty. A new pilot study proves that the use of the GUIDE app increases goal-oriented behavior and decreases negative emotions and anxiety within one month of use.
Scranton, Pa. (December 2023) – In the face of a staggering rise in police officer suicides, GUIDE, an award-winning wellness and resilience mobile app, emerges as a groundbreaking solution to prioritize the mental and emotional well-being of law enforcement professionals. Recent statistics reveal a harsh reality. In 2021, 150 police officers died by suicide, surpassing the number who died in the line of duty (Leone, 2022). This alarming trend underscores the urgent need for proactive and effective mental health support within the law enforcement community.
In a recent pilot study, GUIDE has demonstrated significant success. This unique platform is tailored to empower individuals in high-stress professions, including law enforcement, by providing daily wellness practices, micro-learning courses, and anonymous small peer support groups. Seeking help can have a stigma within the law enforcement community, with officers fearing that they will be seen as weak or unfit for duty. They may also be concerned with having a confidentiality breach or data leak. When an officer has not addressed his mental wellness, their departments may also see an increase in absenteeism, recruitment, and retention. GUIDE proactively addresses these barriers to accessing and utilizing wellness support within its app, showing its potential to be a vital tool in solving the current wellness crisis and helping police departments address the resulting challenges around absenteeism, recruitment, and retention.

GUIDE’s pilot study, conducted with members of various high-stress professions, showcased remarkable results. The study was completed over one month where sixteen testers were asked to interact with the app twelve times. Participants demonstrated consistent engagement with the app, with 75 percent completing at least one lesson and small group post each week, while 59 percent posted at least one small group comment weekly. On average, participants completed 26 lessons over four weeks, posting a total of 433 small group posts and 182 comments. The engagement varied among participants, but the overall findings suggest encouraging usage patterns and interaction with the app.
Consistent app use was hypothesized to lead to increased positive emotions, engagement, relationships, etc., and decreased negative emotions, loneliness, and anxiety was supported by the results. Scores on the PERMA increased and decreased in predicted areas (Goal-Oriented Behavior increased, on average, by 15 percent and Negative Emotions decreased, on average, by 11 percent). PWS results supported the decrease in Anxiety scores (29 percent, on average). Results suggest longer app use might lead to significant changes in Life Satisfaction, Worthwhile, and Happiness.
The study used an analysis of well-being measures to conduct its research, PERMA and PWS. PERMA is a well-being scale that stands for positive emotion, engagement, relationships, meaning, and accomplishment. The Personal Wellbeing Score (PWS) is a four-item measure designed to assess an individual’s own perceptions of their wellness.
Victoria Stewart, a clinical psychologist specializing in PTSD and co-author of the pilot study’s white paper, expressed optimism about the app’s potential impact. “Significant changes in well-being with a small sample size promote optimism about future studies with larger sample sizes and longer app usage durations. It shows promise of enhancing the validity and success of the app.”
To further validate and expand on these promising results, GUIDE has partnered with the University of Pennsylvania’s Penn Center for Mental Health for an extensive and comprehensive clinical trial. This collaboration aims to deepen understanding and efficacy, offering hope for a transformative solution to the law enforcement wellness crisis.
