Team Colt Spotlight – Mark Redl, Team Captain
![]()
![]()

West Hartford, CT (February 22, 2024) – Team Colt’s Captain, Mark Redl, is a top-tier pro shooter, consistently winning local, state, and national championships. For the past 15 years, Redl has proudly represented Team Colt. More recently, he became the team’s captain, and together, the group of four action pistol shooters promotes Colt at competitions and training events nationwide. Redl also works as Colt’s manager of R&D Product Testing. He provides valuable product feedback from prototyping through endurance testing—a position that allows lots of trigger time with the next generation of Colt firearms.
Redl’s shooting disciplines include USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Association), IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Association), Steel Challenge, and NRA Action Shooting/ Bianchi Cup, where he competes in 14-16 major (plus several local matches) each year. “I travel a lot as a pro shooter, and I’m fortunate to have a wife who helps me balance my shooting, work, and family life,” added Redl.
In 2022, Redl’s USPSA wins included Florida Open, Limited 10 Champion, Area 6 Championship, Limited 10 Champion, and Battle at the Beach, Single Stack Champion. His IDPA accolades included Rust Belt Regional, Enhanced Service Pistol (ESP) Champion, Potomac Grail, Custom Defense Pistol (CDP) Champion, and New England Regional, Custom Defense Pistol (CDP) High. The 2023 season is underway, and Redl is gunning for more titles this year.
“I started my competitive shooting with a Colt Combat Elite 1911. Over the years, this pistol has severed me well. It now has over 180,000 rounds through it. I still use it for the occasional match,” Redl said, noting a championship win with it in 2022, “but in the last two years, with the release of the Colt Competition series guns, I’ve switched to the 1911 Gold Cup Trophy as my primary pistol.” Colt competition guns are ready to win right out of the box. “I don’t use aftermarket parts. Colt features high-performance National Match Barrels and American-made parts in its Competition Series pistols.”
Redl has two pieces of advice for new action pistol shooters. “Buy top quality; you won’t regret it! My Combat Elite is a testament to Colt’s durability. A competition pistol is an investment; with care and regular maintenance, these pistols will last a lifetime.” For a shooter who wants to win, “Learn and practice the fundamentals. The difference between a pro and a novice is the amount of time learning the basics. In competition, you need to focus on the stage, not the mechanics of shooting.”
Mark Redl loves shooting sports and shares his passion and pro tips with fellow shooters as a member and captain of Team Colt.

R2S Breaks Ground on Manufacturing Facility in East Camden
East Camden, Ark. (Feb. 21, 2024) – R2S has broken ground on its new manufacturing facility in East Camden, Arkansas. The facility will produce the Tamir missile for the Iron Dome Weapon System and its variant, the SkyHunter® missile to be used by U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. allies.
R2S is a joint venture between Raytheon and Rafael Advanced Defense System. Raytheon is an RTX (NYSE: RTX) business.
This facility represents an investment of $63 million for R2S and will create up to 60 new jobs in the region. The R2S facility will build on RTX’s existing production capacity at the Highland Industrial Park.
Company representatives joined Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders and state officials to announce the project in October 2023.
“It’s an honor to join R2S for today’s groundbreaking, just as it was an honor to announce this project in October and meet with company representatives last summer at the Paris Air Show,” said Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders. “This investment will be a boon for the local economy: $63 million and 60 new jobs. More than that, our world is a whole lot less secure than it used to be, and this facility makes our country safer. Thank you to all who made this announcement possible, and thank you to the team in Camden for helping our state stand out.”
“Today, we mark a significant milestone in the Iron Dome program – one of the most important and advanced air defense systems in the world. The establishment of the new facility is the result of strong cooperation between Rafael and Raytheon, who joined forces about 18 years ago,” said Pini Yungman, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Air & Missile Defense Division, Rafael. “We have built and maintained fruitful collaboration based on the shared vision of both companies, committed to the highest level of technological innovation. The United States is a true partner; and local production, which we have aspired to for many years, will strengthen the partnership while safeguarding the interests of all sides. I am confident that we are ready for further cooperation in the future aimed at ensuring the security of the citizens of Israel and America.”
“R2S is pleased to announce today that it’s almost doubling the capital investment for the project here in Camden, Arkansas from $33 million to $63 million, and it may create up to 60 new jobs. This increase represents the commitment by both partners to support this critical project for the USMC and to our allies around the world that depend on a reliable air defense system,” said Annabel Flores, deputy president of Land & Air Defense Systems, Raytheon.

NSSF Wins Preliminary Injunction Against California’s Unconstitutional Law Allowing Frivolous Lawsuits Against Firearm Industry
WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, applauded the decision by U.S. District Judge Andrew Schopler granting an injunction prohibiting the enforcement of California’s law that exposes firearm industry members to lawsuits in California for the lawful commerce in firearms that takes place entirely outside the state of California when those legally made and sold products end up being misused by criminals and others in California.
The ruling by Judge Schopler in the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of California enjoined the enforcement of California AB 1594, the so-called “Firearm Industry Responsibility Act.” NSSF sued to challenge the law in June of 2023 and moved for an injunction. In granting the injunction, Judge Schopler found the law is likely unconstitutional because it violates the Commerce Clause.
“We are thankful the court enjoined the state from suing members of the firearm industry under this unconstitutional law that attempts to use the real threat of liability on commerce beyond California’s borders and impose its policy choices on its Sister states,” stated NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel Lawrence G. Keane.
Among other provisions, California AB 1594 bans the manufacture, sale and marketing of firearms the state deems “abnormally dangerous.” It allows civil lawsuits against a firearm industry member to be filed by the Attorney General, any municipality and any person who claims to have suffered harm from the misuse of a legal, lawfully sold firearm by a remote third party. The law unconstitutionally invades the sovereignty of sister States by directly regulating lawful commerce occurring entirely outside the state of California in violation of the Commerce Clause and the United States’ system of federalism. The law also violates the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) enacted by Congress in 2005 to stop just these sorts of frivolous lawsuits against members of the industry.
Keane added, “We are reviewing the balance of the court’s decision and whether we will file an amended complaint to provide the court more details on how California’s unconstitutional law and its threat of crushing liability is causing real and ongoing harm to members of our industry.”
NSSF also claims in its lawsuit that the law also infringes on the Second Amendment and chills First Amendment rights by restricting protected free-speech advertising of Constitutionally-protected products that are lawfully made and sold – even when that advertising takes place outside of California’s borders.

Get Ready for the Next Great American Firearms Company
SPRING, TX (Feb. 21, 2024)— Located in Spring, Texas, WATCHTOWER Firearms is a veteran-owned company with a mission to “build the most sought-after firearms in the world that will inspire the next generation of gun ownership by creating an enduring connection between its products and its customers.” At present, the company builds spec-ops and competition-grade MSR-style rifles, the Apache double stack 1911 pistol, the Jedburgh suppressor, and a wide range of accessories and gear.
Jason Colosky, the CEO and Founder of WATCHTOWER, has a vision to build “The Next Great American Firearms Company.”
Colosky often jokes that he is a true creator of the swamp. It’s a bit of a tongue-in-cheek play on President Trump’s commentary on federal employees who work in Washington, DC. Having grown up in the swampy bayous of Louisiana, he found himself living and working in Washington, D.C., for 25 years; however, that is where the similarities come to a screeching halt. He is a 2nd generation Recon Marine, his family has served in the military since they arrived in America in 1907, and his son recently completed Marine Corps Officer Candidate School. While service to the nation was deeply engrained in him at an early age, he also spent almost a decade in corporate America working for one of the world’s largest defense companies.
His journey into the firearms industry began with a deep frustration towards the prevailing corporate culture in America coupled with the trend of iconic American firearms brands being acquired by foreign entities only to be mismanaged or commoditized. This trend, which he saw as a deviation from the rich heritage of American firearms excellence, ignited his ambition to lead a change.
In May of 2023, Mr. Colosky and WATCHTOWER acquired F-1 Firearms. F-1 had been known for its lightweight competition MSRs. But there was more to its production facility than just competition MSRs. Several key ingredients drove WATCHTOWER towards acquiring F-1:
1. Its precision manufacturing capability and the quality of its firearms were truly off the charts. “We may not be building Ferraris and Lamborghinis down here in Spring, but we are building Dodge Demons and Shelby Cobras,” Jason will often remark when discussing how he approaches building American muscle and precision manufacturing into the firearms industry.
2. F-1 had a massive amount of open capacity that WATCHTOWER could immediately put to work as part of WATCHTOWER’s diversification roadmap. For most companies, open capacity is the kiss of death, but for investors, that part of an acquisition means there is little need for additional capital to raise, as the production capability is baked into the acquisition.
3. The entire workforce welcomed the acquisition and the change in direction and stayed on with the new company.
“It may sound cliche; however, our workforce is our lifeblood.”, said Colosky. “This team was extremely valuable, as they were already ‘on the other side of the learning curve.’ When you acquire a workforce that is used to making high tolerance, precision guns, everything else is a little easier.”
From there, WATCHTOWER rebranded the company and started running in a very different direction than F-1. While F-1 relied on shock branding, that is not what this team had in mind. Colosky remarked that he could easily rename the company after himself, much like many of the firearm titans of the past that have since sold out to European conglomerates. However, he views returning the American firearms industry back to its preeminent place in the world as a team effort with like-minded people who have also worn the nation’s cloth. You will find other Recon Marines, Navy SEALs, Scout Snipers, and veterans of all stripes within the company and throughout his leadership team. The name WATCHTOWER itself draws its name from the brave Americans who fought under the Southern Cross in the Pacific during the invasion of Guadalcanal, famously known as Operation WATCHTOWER.
From the company’s name to everything WATCHTOWER delivers, it is a touch point in American history. All the non-special edition firearms are serialized with 1775, and then the serialization builds from there. The company’s new titanium suppressor is named the Jedburgh in honor of the OSS Commandos from World War II. The hand-fitted PVD-coated double stack 1911 is named the APACHE in honor of the men who fought and died during Operation APACHE (snow) in Vietnam.
From a pricing standpoint, WATCHTOWER is the first to admit they are not in a race to the bottom. WATCHTOWER is positioned in the market as a top-tier manufacturer. The goal behind the brand is getting competition quality firearms into American hands at a blue-collar price. They are not inexpensive, but in the world of competition and hand-fitted rifles and pistols, they come in at a very comfortable price compared to the competition. Unlike other manufacturers, WATCHTOWER offers a lifetime, no-nonsense warranty. If your firearm is broken, they will fix it; if they cannot fix it, they will replace it, no questions asked. If you are a police officer who is carrying one of their rifles or pistols and is involved in an officer-related shooting, they will send you a brand-new firearm until it is released from the evidence locker; again, no questions asked. While legal counsel may not have been happy with this decision, Jason clearly stated, “we are not going to build the next great American firearms company by mincing words with legal caveat…our customers have to know we stand behind them and our products at all times.”
So, what is next for WATCHTOWER Firearms? This company is on the move and won’t be stopping any time soon. A second handgun is on the way, and two hybrid precision action/hunting rifles that will take the industry by storm will soon follow. WATCHTOWER Firearms is here to stay and will make America proud again– The Next Great American Firearms Company.
News from Fix It Sticks!
Fix It Sticks Introduces the Field Pistol Sight Tool for Adjusting Polymer Rear Sights
Chicago, IL- Fix It Sticks, the industry innovator of modular firearms maintenance tools and torque limiters has introduced an innovative, portable, yet highly functional pistol sight adjustment tool, the Field Pistol Sight Tool. Designed to be as precise as it is compact, this new tool will save pistol shooters time and precious ammunition when it comes to adjusting polymer dovetail style rear sights. Weighing just over four ounces, the Field Sight Pistol Tool is also extremely compact, taking up less space than even half of a compact pistol magazine.
The Field Pistol Sight Tool is easy to use. Simply open the tool, rotate the folding press block into position, adjust the non-marring slide bracket to support the tool, position on the handgun, then use a Fix It Sticks T-Way wrench or quarter inch hex driver to push the sight. Precise millimeter markings on the tool make it simple to adjust with precision and repeatability. This eliminates having to drift a sight back and forth with a punch to zero the pistol, saving time and ammunition. Click here to see a video on how to use the Field Pistol Sight Tool.
Made from anodized aluminum, polymer and steel, the new Field Pistol Sight Tool is now available with an MSRP of $100

Bowhunting Turkeys? Why Bow Spider is an Invaluable Accessory
KINNEAR, WY (Fb. 20, 2024) — Whether you bow hunt gobblers with either a crossbow or compound bow, you don’t need to be occupying one hand carrying your bow – especially when hiking in the dark. That’s why you need the Bow Spider™ Complete Bow Packing System.
The Bow Spider Complete Bow Packing System is the quickest and easiest hands-free bow retrieval system on the market. Here’s how it works. An aluminum arm attaches to the compound bow’s riser or the crossbow’s Picatinny rail and slides into a slot on the lightweight, injection-molded receiver, which can be worn on the included belt or attached to other objects, including your backpack, or the Bow Spider Attack Pack (sold separately.) The bow is held securely in place via a gravity-locking system, yet it slides out with minimal effort. The Bow Spider’s versatility also allows it to be mounted on any flat surface. The bow can then be quickly and effortlessly removed with one hand when it’s time to swing back into action.
“Bowhunters who pursue spring gobblers need stuff, and lots of it,” said Bow Spider founder David Merrill, himself a highly accomplished bowhunter. “You might have to pack in a ground blind and seat, decoys, calls, and all that other gear, as well as your bow. How do you haul it quickly, easily, and safely from your truck to the field in one trip if one hand is carrying your bow? And what if you’re a run & gun hunter, needing to move often during the day? You almost need to be an octopus to haul it all – unless you incorporate the Bow Spider bow packing system.”
The Bow Spider Complete Bow Packing System comes in either green, tan, or black, as well as limited color editions in deep purple, neon orange, lime green, and pink, and they offer a special Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF.) They have a suggested retail price of $94.95 and the Crossbow version has a suggested retail price of $109.99. All products are available at select retailers nationwide and conveniently online at www.bowspider.com. To see how easy it is to use the Bow Spider, check out this new video clip: https://youtu.be/olySav0g2N8?si=DoYtYkjF_odX6SHr.

In a world where tradition often intertwines with innovation, Big Horn Armory has carved its niche as a trailblazer in the firearms industry. Founded by Greg Buchel, a visionary leader with a diverse professional journey, the company is renowned for pushing the boundaries of conventional firearm design. In an exclusive interview, Greg sheds light on his experiences, the challenges faced, and the compelling vision that propels Big Horn Armory forward.

Greg’s journey from a classically trained architect to the founder of Big Horn Armory is a testament to the unpredictable nature of career paths. He recalls the early 1980s when high double digit inflation and interest rates crippled the construction industries, which in turn affected architecture. This period was also the genesis of the personal computer industry. It was during this tumultuous time that Greg found a new opportunity in producing distributable software media—a Plan B that proved highly successful. The success he saw in this venture eventually led to the creation of his current endeavor, Big Horn Armory. This journey laid the foundation for the company’s commitment to excellence.
The genesis of Big Horn Armory was fueled by a fascination with firearms, particularly the idea of creating a lever gun chambered in the powerful 500 S&W Magnum—a feat many had attempted but failed. Greg’s vision was to succeed where others faltered, and the result was the creation of the Model 89 lever gun that became the cornerstone of the company’s identity.

Model 89 Prototype
The design for the Model 89 was born with the realization that the right thing to do was shrink down the Model 86 to the dimensions of the 500 S&W. The Model 86 had some internal geometries that were thought to be very difficult to manufacture, so Model 92 internals were adopted. The process of shrinking the 1886 to 500 S&W dimensions took many a twist and turn until finally in 2009 the first shooting prototypes were produced in time for hunting season. Elk, antelope, and mule deer were taken locally.
The company’s original focus was to produce mainstream production lever guns. This evolved into the higher-end custom guns that are produced today. All Big Horn Armory firearms are built to exact fit and finish standards, using different grades and species of walnut along with different metal finishes to create truly heirloom firearms that will last for generations. Choices of wood and metal finish are all geared to give the customer the ultimate in personal customization.

An example of Circassian Wood and a Color Case Hardened finish.
For Greg, essential leadership qualities include audacity, perseverance, and tenacity. Having a backup plan, as demonstrated in his own career, is crucial for navigating unforeseen challenges. This resilient approach has not only shaped Greg’s professional journey but has also become ingrained in Big Horn Armory’s corporate culture.
The company’s culture is defined by the devotion of its employees to firearms and their craftsmanship. Greg emphasizes the importance of paying attention to employees, as they often provide valuable insights into areas of improvement. As Big Horn Armory grows, finding new employees who share this passion remains a priority.

Big Horn Armory makes no compromises. They never have, and they never will. Fit and finish are as good as handwork can make them. Their craftsmen are trained in old-world hand finishing which is almost unknown in today’s world.
In terms of product development, the company tends to make products that interest them, so the creation of new products is an outgrowth of several hundred years of experience among its employees. The company also constantly reviews and improves its offerings as part of its quality control mechanisms. This helps to find flaws in the internal processes and allows the company to correct them. New products are also considered with the same thoughts in mind. Big Horn Armory has numerous new products in the works at any given moment. Some are extensions of current products, while others are completely new for the brand.
The product lineup, including the iconic Model 89 and the innovative AR500 rifle, reflects the company’s commitment to diversity. Customization options, such as different grades of walnut and metal finishes, allow customers to own truly unique firearms. The AR500 chambered in 500 Auto Max was a logical progression for Big Horn Armory. The AR platform is a long-term trend, especially among younger customers. Big Horn Armory developed in collaboration with Tim Sundles of Buffalo Bore Ammunition and Robert Hayden of Starline Brass to create a rimless version of the 500 S&W. The rimless configuration allows feeding from the box magazine required in the AR platforms.

The AR500 uses an AR10 as its basis due to its larger bolt and barrel extension. This combo was tested far beyond the 60,000 psi pressure for the cartridge without any deformation. This makes the AR500 stand out as the most powerful AR platform on the market.
User feedback plays a pivotal role in product improvements. Customer suggestions, such as the addition of red dot sights and take-down lever guns, are examples of Big Horn Armory’s responsiveness to consumer needs. Collaborations with industry partners, including Buffalo Bore, Starline, and Lehigh Defense, showcase the company’s dedication to innovative solutions.
As Big Horn Armory looks to the future, Greg emphasizes the importance of adaptation to industry trends. The firearms industry has been one of continual change for hundreds of years. Adaptation is more of a way of life than a specific turn of events. When it comes to creating products that customers want, it is always a matter of adapting or failing. The legacy envisioned for the company is one of continued excellence in firearm production—a legacy that hinges on being remembered as a producer of fine firearms contributing to the industry’s rich history.
In closing, Greg’s advice to young innovators and entrepreneurs is simple yet powerful: pursue dreams with vigor and tenacity. Enjoy what you do and the rest should take care of itself. As a leader in the firearms industry, Greg Buchel and Big Horn Armory continue to leave an indelible mark, ensuring that their legacy is one of innovation, quality, and passion for firearms.

Crow Shooting Supply Adds to NSSF First Shots Host Range Incentives![]()
WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, is pleased to announce that Crow Shooting Supply has stepped up to encourage shooting ranges to host more of NSSF’s First Shots® programs through a generous store credit match incentive.
Ranges and retailer-ranges that host First Shots events can generate up to $1,500 ($15 credit for each person they put through a First Shots experience) in store credit with Crow Shooting Supply, in addition to the $1,500 monetary incentive that shooting facilities can generate through NSSF’s new First Shots incentives that were announced late last year. This special incentive provided by Crow Shooting Supply will run now through March 31.
Crow Shooting Supply, a wholesale distributor based on Montezuma, Iowa, wants to encourage ranges to become new and repeat hosts of First Shots events to provide more people with their first or refresher experience enjoying the shooting sports.
“NSSF’s First Shots program is grateful to Crow Shooting Supply for this extra incentive to ranges to help people not only discover the shooting sports by taking their first shots but also to have their questions answered about firearm ownership and responsible use and storage, ” said Zach Snow, NSSF Director, Member Development. “Americans in growing numbers are eager to learn about firearm ownership, and First Shots has been designed to assist them by providing education in the classroom and experience on the range.”
NSSF’s First Shots is an introductory and refresher program made available through host target-shooting ranges across the country. By providing educational experiences that are safe, fun and memorable, host ranges are having great success in attracting first-timers, further engaging new gun owners and in reactivating lapsed participants. Surveys show that 60 percent of First Shots participants returned to their host range while spending more than $850 annually on their shooting sports endeavors.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to firearms education and safety, Crow Shooting Supply is teaming up with the NSSF’s First Shots program. We’re all about getting people to support their local shooting ranges and helping newcomers. It’s not just about pulling the trigger; it’s about creating a community that’s knowledgeable, respects tradition and keeps safety front and center in shooting sports,” said Pete Brownell, CEO of Crow Shooting Supply.
NSSF provides host ranges with all the program materials and promotional resources to help offset overall event expenses. Shooting ranges and firearm instructors can learn how to become a First Shots host here or by contacting Ann Gamauf at 203-426-1320 ext. 247.
If you’re interested to learn about firearm safety, range etiquette and the basic firearm fundamentals to get you on target, find a First Shots seminar near you!

New From Vortex® Cartridge Talks:
“Grandpa’s 30-30.”
February 20, 2024
BARNEVELD, Wis. – Nostalgic. Old-school. Underpowered. The 30-30 gets called a lot of things, but new technology and a rabid fan base are breathing new life into this venerable round.
In this episode, Mark and Ryan put this new technology to the test, compare it to traditional rounds, and answer the question, “Is Grandpa’s 30-30 better than ever?”
Think the 30-30 Winchester® is a relic of the past? This episode might change your mind.
Though it has its roots in “the good ol’ days,” and it remained largely unchanged till the early 2000’s, the 30-30 is finding a foothold in the gun safes of modern hunters. This is largely thanks to Hornady, who developed new technologies that produce higher velocities and flatter trajectories.

Constructed of our finest, fully-lined premium steerhide, the Thunderclap features detailed hand-molding for both secure retention and a beautiful appearance. The smooth leather lining provides increased tactile feedback on the draw while easing wear on more-delicate handgun finishes. The refinement of leather lining is not only practical – it also enhances the overall look and feel of a hand-crafted premium holster.
The Thunderclap’s near-neutral (vertical) cant gives it the fastest, wrist-locked draw stroke, while the reinforced opening provides easy, one-handed return to the holster. Relieved at the base of the trigger guard, it allows a full firing grip in the holster. The metal-reinforced tunnel-style belt loop provides excellent rigidity during carry and on the draw, and the trailing belt slot aids with concealment – even with large defensive handguns. A molded sight rail prevents snags on the draw.
Equally at home concealed with an EDC pistol or worn openly with a barbeque gun, the Thunderclap is sure to impress friends – or help defeat enemies!
The Thunderclap fits belts up to 1 1/2” wide and is available in black or tan.

![]()
Boulder City, NV (February 19, 2024) – In honor of President’s Day, Fisher Space PenⓇ is proud to unveil the two latest additions to its lineup: the Olive Drab and the Flat Dark Earth Cerakote® M4 Cap-O-Matic Space Pens featuring the distinguished new Army logo.
The pens incorporate the U.S. Army’s new brand campaign, redefining what it means to “Be All You Can Be” for future generations of servicemen and women. The time-honored Army name and star are laser-engraved on each writing instrument.
These pens are the first to feature military engravings alongside a premium Cerakote® finish, available in Flat Dark Earth and OD green colors Cerkote®. The Cerakote® coating enhances the pens’ aesthetic appeal and provides unparalleled durability, boasting exceptional resistance against abrasion, corrosion and chemicals.
The M4 Cap-O-Matic line utilizes cap activation to extend and retract the point. Each carries a pressurized PR-style ink refill cartridge, which means that they offer all of the unique capabilities that are synonymous with Fisher products: enabling users to write upside down, at any angle and over almost any surface, including blood, oil, grease, underwater and even in extreme temperatures (-30 to +250 degrees Fahrenheit). GENERAL ATOMICS EXPANDS INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATIONS AND PARTNERSHIPS WITH JAPAN IN CRITICAL AND EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES
SAN DIEGO – 19 February 2024 – General Atomics, a defense and diversified technologies company with affiliates operating on five continents, is expanding its collaborations and partnerships across Japan with new investments in the nuclear energy and rare earth elements sectors.
Numerous teaming arrangements are in the late stages of discussion and are set to be announced in early 2024. These partnerships will complement the company’s existing relationships as a long-term partner collaborating with Japanese industry and government agencies.
“General Atomics is committed to collaborating with its Japanese partners to advance the development of cutting-edge technologies in the maritime security, nuclear energy, and rare earth elements sectors,” said Dr. Vivek Lall, chief executive at General Atomics Global Corporation. “Building on a legacy of successful collaborations, we have held a series of strategic engagements with government officials, industry leaders, and research institutions in Japan. These engagements have laid the foundation for future partnerships aimed at advancing the development of critical and emerging technologies.”
In 2023, Japan’s Kyoto Fusioneering announced an agreement with GA to supply two advanced gyrotrons to the U.S. Department of Energy’s DIII-D National Fusion Facility in San Diego, Calif.
Currently, the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) are testing and deploying the MQ-9B SeaGuardian® Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) built by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI). SeaGuardian is a long-endurance maritime surveillance aircraft that can be used for a variety of missions, including search and rescue, disaster response, and maritime law enforcement.
GA-ASI’s MQ-9B aircraft is revolutionizing the global RPA systems market by providing true all-weather capability and full compliance with STANAG-4671 (NATO UAS airworthiness standard). This feature, along with GA-ASI’s operationally proven collision avoidance radar, enables flexible operations in civil airspace.
