The Veil Tac Black contrast camo finish on the frame and limbs with orange accents on the trigger guard and Halo gives it a distinctive appearance. NSSF Releases 2024 Congressional Report Card
WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, released its 2024 Congressional Report Card, grading sitting U.S. Representatives and U.S. Senators on key legislation that is of critical importance to the firearm industry, the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens and America’s hunters and recreational target shooters. Five U.S. House of Representatives were not graded due to special elections to fill vacancies, resulting in the new Members having an insufficient voting and co-sponsorship record for grading.
“This report card will be critical for voters to do their research as we head into the final stretch towards the November elections just six weeks from now. NSSF’s 2024 Congressional Report Card tells voters exactly where their lawmakers stand on issues including defending the firearm industry’s ability to engage in the lawful commerce of firearms and ammunition and safeguarding the Second Amendment rights of customers, as well as promoting hunting and recreational target shooting – America’s greatest outdoor pastimes,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “This nonpartisan report card reflects the level of support of each lawmaker on firearm industry priority legislation during the 118th Congress, between 2023 and 2024. These grades indicate their public voting record as well as their sponsorship and co-sponsorship of key legislation, their work on committees, letters signed to support firearm industry issues and their overall leadership in championing our industry.”
NSSF awarded 29 U.S. Senators and 123 U.S. Representatives the rating of “A+.” Of those, 8 Senators and 24 House Members attained the new NSSF distinction of being named to the Dean’s List. To earn this special recognition, members needed to have a 100-percent voting and co-sponsorship record.

We at Ed Brown Products are deeply saddened to report that Ed Brown, industry icon and founder of Ed Brown Products, passed away at his home on September 15, 2024, after an intense battle with an aggressive, un-treatable liver cancer. Ed was born on December 13, 1946, and is survived by his wife, who he married Nov 27, 1965. Next year would have been their 60th wedding anniversary. Ed is also survived by his three children, and six grand-children.
Ed Brown received his FFL and began business as a part-time gunsmith in 1968 under the name “Brown’s Gun Shop”. For 20 years on evenings and weekends, he honed his skill, experience, and reputation as one of the world’s finest pistol-smiths, while during the day he worked as a tool and die maker, CNC programmer, and CAD/CAM designer.
1983 IPSC World Championship
Ed began shooting IPSC and Bianchi Cup in 1980, and was ranked in the Top 16 of the World as a championship combat shooter. Frustrated by the second-rate quality of 1911 parts he had to work with, he envisioned a full line of quality aftermarket parts of superior designs, that met the needs of the modern combat shooter.
On March 30, 1988, this vision became reality when he quit his day job as a tool and die maker to launch his parts business. Within months, the world’s largest firearm components distributor, Brownell’s, added Ed Brown’s famous beavertail, magwell, and hammer to their catalog. Parts production began to take off, while demand for Ed’s gunsmithing work continued to increase. His gunsmithing career peaked in 1991, and he was awarded “Pistolsmith of the Year” by his fellow American Pistolsmith Guild members, a prestigious honor which, at that time, was awarded only to those who have shown the highest degree of honesty and craftsmanship in their work. That same year, Ed announced he was changing his focus from gunsmithing to parts manufacturing exclusively, as time was too limited to effectively do both.

Ed Brown Products, Inc. incorporated June of 1992 to manufacture a complete line of 1911 components and accessories. Custom pistol work was no longer being accepted.
In 1998, after manufacturing all the major components of the 1911, Ed’s two sons Travis and Wade joined the business full time. A new direction was established – the design and manufacture of a complete line of Ed Brown firearms. The next few years were invested in plant expansion and R&D for the design and manufacture of the Ed Brown 1911 frame and slide.
In the year 2000, the Kobra Carry was introduced. It was the first 1911 to be available in all stainless, with the snakeskin metal pattern, and was equipped with the Ed Brown Bobtail, designed and trademarked by Ed Brown earlier that year, and the Ed Brown Bobtail was soon copied in some form by nearly every 1911 manufacturer in existence.
In 2001, the Brown family began to selectively establish an authorized dealer network across the country for Ed Brown firearms. Within a few short years, Ed Brown firearms were present in high-end retail establishments across the US, and in many foreign countries. With his sons taking care of the business, Ed pursued another path – the innovation and design of a new bolt action for hunting and sniper rifles, the M-702, and later, the M-704 controlled feed, which were the foundation of the newly created line of Ed Brown rifles.
The presidential elections of 2008 and 2012, combined with the 100 year anniversary of the 1911, created an unprecedented demand for our 1911 product line, and years of explosive growth followed. Ed Brown retired from the business in 2010 at age 65, leaving the business operations in the hands of his two capable sons. The rifle company was later sold as capacity was too limited to do both pistols and rifles and maintain the highest quality level the Brown family demanded.
Since Ed’s retirement in 2010 the company has continued to thrive and innovate. Some examples include the popular EVO series pistols, which optimizes the 1911 platform for the popular 9mm caliber, the entire line of Ed Brown Performance 1911 magazines, and the Fueled series pistols which currently include the Springfield Prodigy, Springfield Prodigy Comp, S&W M&P 2.0, and the world’s largest selection of aftermarket S&W M&P parts. Next year in 2025 we will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Ed Brown Kobra Carry as the most popular, longest running, high-end custom 1911 handgun of all time.

The Development Process of the Model 89 Take Down

At Big Horn Armory, we’ve always strived to push the boundaries of craftsmanship and innovation, and our latest release, the Model 89 Take Down, is no exception. Inspired by our customer demand and our long-held desire to create what we consider the ultimate guide gun, the Model 89 Take Down brings together compactness, power, and durability in a way that pays homage to the past while utilizing modern materials and techniques.
The roots of this project trace back to the genius of John Moses Browning and his 1905 patent. As Greg Buchel, Founder of Big Horn Armory, explains, “Browning’s 1905 patent, which eventually evolved into the Stevens take down 12-gauge, was the only design we found stout enough to handle the immense pressure of the .500 S&W cartridge. The simplicity and the increased bearing surface area of the spline approach, compared to interrupted thread designs, offered the strength we needed.” With this foundation, we set out to modernize Browning’s vision for the modern shooter.
The design process brought its own set of challenges. Chief among them was ensuring the perfect fit between the connector splines and the receiver splines. “The fit had to be tight, but not so tight that it would become difficult to take apart in the field,” Buchel says. “That balance was key.” Using modern steels like 17-4PH stainless steel, combined with a nitride finish, helped us achieve this. “The nitriding process adds both hardness and lubricity for long wear and ease of assembly, meaning that the parts can be mated without lubrication. This is important as any lubrication can attract dirt, which would make it harder to assemble the gun in the field.”
Reworking Browning’s design for the .500 S&W cartridge required careful adjustments to the size and material of certain components, but the fundamentals of the original concept remained intact. “We added material to the receiver ring around the splines to handle the increased pressure of the .500 S&W, but beyond that, the design was a perfect match,” says Buchel. The entire process was relatively straightforward, thanks to modern CNC machining. “What used to require custom tooling and hours of manual work now becomes much more efficient and precise with CNC technology.”
When it came to testing, we didn’t cut corners. “We ran five proof loads in the original prototype, and its headspace increased by .002.” After 15 more proof loads, there was no measurable change in headspace,” Buchel recalls. “We knew we had a solid design, capable of enduring the repeated use that a guide gun demands.”
One of the standout features of the Model 89 Take Down is the spline design itself. “There’s nothing like it on the market today,” says Buchel. “The length, width, and depth of the splines make the connection incredibly stable. There’s so much surface area that the connection holds up even after repeated take-downs and reassemblies. Add to that the hardness of the nitriding process, and wear becomes a non-issue.”
The Model 89 Take Down also shines in its aesthetics and craftsmanship. “We wanted to stay true to the original lines of the Model 89 while adding material in the right places,” Buchel explains. “But beyond looks, our craftsmanship comes through in the hand-fitting process. Every spline, every take down part is meticulously fitted by hand, making the ease of assembly and disassembly a real testament to our commitment to quality.”

MUSKEGON, Mich. (September 26, 2024) – ScentLok has been the recognized leader in big game hunting scent control for decades, founded on their ever advancing carbon technologies. What is Merino wool?

In short, the garment naturally regulates based on the weather conditions.
Odor Resistance
While ScentLok is famous for its carbon technology, in the case of the Merino 250 Hoodie, the fabric alone offers native antimicrobial properties. This comes from a sheep’s ability to produce a natural wax (sheep grease) that repels water and prevents the accumulation of bacteria, mold, and fungus.

My aim in this post is not to diminish the gravity of homicides committed with semiautomatic rifles. Each and every one of these tragedies is avoidable. However, effective problem-solving necessitates a comprehensive understanding of the issue and the development of fact-based solutions. Unfortunately, the logic behind advocating for an assault weapons ban is akin to attempting to eradicate malaria by eliminating the patient rather than addressing the root cause—the mosquito.
To substantiate my argument, I relied on the most recent FBI data spanning 2010 to 2019. This data, presented in two distinct reports (2010-2014 and 2015-2019), provides a detailed breakdown of homicides committed using firearms and other means. By analyzing the FBI’s Expanded Homicide Table 8, we can determine the exact number of gun-related homicides recorded during each year. Moreover, the FBI categorizes firearm homicides by type, enabling a precise evaluation of the percentage of homicides committed using rifles.
I’ve included a concise Excel spreadsheet that illustrates these percentages. The highest percentage occurred in 2010, with 4.14% of firearm homicides attributed to rifles. Conversely, 2015 witnessed the lowest percentage at 2.35%. Over the ten-year period, an average of 3.29% of firearm homicides were committed using a rifle.
The initial chart clearly demonstrates the escalating production of AR-15 rifles. Even without an Ivy League education, a simple analysis of the data points from 2010 to 2019 reveals a 16% annual increase in AR-15 manufacturing.Despite this substantial rise in AR-15 availability, rifle homicides have remained relatively stable over the same decade. This observation underscores the lack of a direct correlation between firearm homicides and the proliferation of AR-15 rifles in the commercial market.
A more significant revelation lies in the final graph, which indicates that 38.58% of school shootings are perpetrated by current students. This statistic raises pertinent questions about how minors are obtaining firearms. Perhaps the primary focus should be on parental accountability and the allocation of school resources to address student mental health and attitudes. While the National Shooting Sports Foundation dedicates considerable time and money to enhancing parental awareness, legislative bodies should prioritize these real issues rather than pursuing a predetermined agenda.
