Intel engineers join OEMs in the lab to take on unexpected challenges as a new chip architecture comes to life.

Developers working in artificial intelligence (AI) can access expanded support for Intel GPUs in PyTorch* 2.5, which was recently released with contributions from Intel. GPUs supported include Intel® Arc™ discrete graphics, Intel® Core™ Ultra processors with built-in Intel® Arc™ graphics and Intel® Data Center GPU Max Series¹.

These new features help promote accelerated machine learning workflows within the PyTorch ecosystem, provide a consistent developer experience and support. Application developers and researchers seeking to fine-tune, inference and experiment with PyTorch models on Intel Core Ultra AI PCs will now be able to directly install PyTorch with preview and nightly binary releases for Windows, Linux and Windows Subsystem for Linux 2.

New features include:

Expanded PyTorch hardware backend support matrix to include both Intel Data Center and Client GPUs.
The implementation of SYCL* kernels to enhance coverage and execution of Aten operators on Intel GPUs to boost performance in PyTorch eager mode.
Enhanced Intel GPU backend of torch.compile to improve inference and training performance for a wide range of deep learning workloads.

In addition, PyTorch 2.5 incorporates improvements and new features for the latest Intel data center CPUs. The FP16 datatype is enabled and optimized through Intel® Advanced Matrix Extensions for both eager mode and TorchInductor to enhance inference capabilities on the latest Intel data center CPU platforms, such as Intel® Xeon® 6 processors. The TorchInductor C++ backend is also available on Windows to bring a better user experience to AI developers in Windows environments.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF^®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, is pleased to announce that A Girl & A Gun Women’s Shooting League has become an official partner of NSSF’s First Shots^® program, the introductory and refresher target-shooting program made available through host target-shooting ranges across the country.

Founded in 2011, A Girl & A Gun Women’s Shooting League is a women-only gun club introducing women and girls to pistol, rifle and shotgun shooting. The league is designed to help women feel more confident and comfortable when learning about recreational shooting and training at the range.

With its more than 300 chapters nationwide, the collaboration of a A Girl & A Gun and NSSF’s First Shots program has the ability to reach thousands of first-time shooters as well as those who want to renew their interest in the shooting sports.

“The partnership between A Girl & A Gun and First Shots has the power to introduce countless newcomers and novices to recreational shooting, firearm safety and a supportive community that enjoys target shooting and training together,” said Zach Snow, NSSF Director, Member Development. “More and more Americans want to learn about recreational shooting and owning firearms for personal security, and First Shots has been designed to assist them by providing education in the classroom and experience on the firing line.”

By providing safe, fun and memorable educational experiences, First Shots partners and host ranges are having great success in attracting first-timers, further engaging new gun owners and reactivating lapsed participants. Surveys show that more than 43 percent of First Shots participants are converted to target-shooting enthusiasts, demonstrating that First Shots is fulfilling a need for providing a supportive environment to those who want to know more about recreational shooting and firearm ownership.

Purpose-built for the Teledyne FLIR SIRAS™ professional uncrewed aerial system (UAS), it provides industry-leading thermal sensitivity for first responder missions and industrial inspections.

The Vue TV128+ series pairs a 128x-zoom, 16MP visible camera with a performance-leading 640×512 resolution FLIR Boson ^®+ thermal camera within a quick-connect gimbal. The Boson+ inside is an uncooled, longwave Infrared (LWIR) thermal camera module that offers improved thermal sensitivity of less than or equal to (≤)20 mK, delivering unmatched thermal contrast and sharpness, day or night.

Like the existing radiometric Vue TV128, the new Vue TV128+ features patented Teledyne FLIR MSX^® Multi-Spectral Dynamic Imaging software to further improve thermal imagery and situational awareness. Unlike image fusing, the merging of a visible light and thermal image, MSX does not dilute the thermal image or decrease thermal transparency.

GA-ASI’S GRAY EAGLE EXTENDED RANGE UAS SUPPORTS ARMY VANGUARD DEMOS

SAN DIEGO – 15 October 2024 – As part of the U.S. Army’s Vanguard demonstrations that took place in Fort Huachuca, Arizona, on Sept. 17–18, 2024, a Gray Eagle Extended Range (GE-ER) Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) provided by the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM) showcased several new capabilities, including the integration of an Expeditionary Cyber Chassis (ECC) for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) and Modular Open Suite of Standards (CMOSS) with Communications Intelligence (COMINT) and Mobile Ad Hoc Networking (MANET) radios from Silvus Technologies.

Sponsored by Col. Danielle Medaglia, Product Manager for Uncrewed Aircraft Systems, and operated by U.S. Army Soldiers, the GE-ER successfully demonstrated data relay and voice communication over significant distances, extending the range, quality, and speed of data exchanges for ground units. The demonstration also verified the capability of relaying video and chat messages between ground users equipped with Silvus 4200 MANET radios, highlighting the progress being made in enhancing tactical communications and situational awareness.

While utilizing the COMINT system, Gray Eagle was able to detect stationary and moving targets at significant ranges and provide data for analysis to expeditionary intelligence cells. This expansion of Gray Eagle capabilities is due to its open architecture, which exemplifies the Army’s Transformation in Contact (TIC) concept. The Army benefits by using an existing system to reduce risk and impacts while gaining new capabilities without the prolonged timelines of an acquisition new start.

“We’re excited to work with our Army customer to increase the relevance and capabilities of the GE-ER platform,” said Chris MacFarland, sector vice president of Strategic Development for Army Programs. “These efforts of Vanguard to demonstrate new capabilities hosted on CMOSS hardware will improve the Army’s premier UAS platform in supporting advanced UAS operations.”

Built by GA-ASI and operated by the U.S. Army, the GE-ER participating in the exercise represents the future capabilities of the Gray Eagle 25M’s open architecture design, allowing for rapid integration of vendor-agnostic sensors, radios, and payloads needed for Multi-Domain Operations. The ability to fully integrate internally mounted long-range sensors and launched effects, while controlling them with modernized laptop ground control systems, significantly enhances its survivability and lethality. Along with advanced data links, resilient GPS navigation systems, and an upgraded propulsion system, the GE 25M is resilient to electronic threats when deployed in expeditionary and austere locations.
