NSSF Statement on Montana U.S. Senate Candidate Tim Sheehy and Unsubstantiated Firearm Mishandling Allegations

WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, has seen in recent days media repeat an unsubstantiated allegation the Montana U.S. Senate candidate Tim Sheehy mishandled a firearm, resulting in personal injury to himself. The fact that this months-old and unproven allegation is resurfacing in the closing days of a hotly-contested election is unsurprising, given the current state of politics and hyperbolic rhetoric that has come to characterize our political contests.
NSSF has examined the facts, as presented by media reporting, and offers the following observations based on the design, safety features and protocols, and caliber of the firearm Mr. Sheehy was carrying at the time of the alleged incident in Glacier National Park in October of 2015.
“The proper way to carry a single action Colt .45 revolver is with the hammer down on an empty chamber to prevent an unintended discharge should the firearm be accidentally dropped or fall. Based on the facts as we understand them, the park ranger found the revolver with the hammer down on an empty chamber. Therefore, it would appear Mr. Sheehy was following proper gun safety protocol. In which case, the revolver could not have discharged a round unintentionally even if it was accidentally dropped or fell,” said Lawrence G. Keane, Senior Vice President and General Counsel for NSSF – The Firearm Industry Trade Association.
“Additionally, modern firearms are designed to industry standards to withstand abusive mishandling to prevent them from discharging unintentionally if dropped,” Keane added. “A point-blank discharge of Colt .45 round would have caused extensive – and obvious – damage to Mr. Sheehy’s arm and would have required immediate medical attention, possibly including surgery, of the gunshot wound. If Mr. Sheehy were actually shot at Glacier as is alleged, it is unimaginable he would walk out of the hospital just a few hours later. For these reasons, we believe the allegation, as reported by the media, that Tim Sheehy’s single action Colt .45 revolver discharged when it fell or was dropped striking him in his arm is false and inaccurate.”

HOME HOLSTERS AMMO CARRIERS BELTS FAQ
now available for 2″ J-frame revolvers!
October 2024
Galco’s improved Combat Master™ is now available for 2″ J-frame revolvers!
The Combat Master™ is a professional-grade belt holster hand-molded by Galco’s experienced craftsmen to fit specific handguns. This gives it excellent retention properties along with a beautiful appearance.
But beauty is only skin-deep, especially in a holster designed for concealment. The Combat Master’s traditional high-riding pancake-style design places the belt slots on either side of the holster, pulling the handgun tight to the body and making defensive handguns disappear under even light clothing. It also features an open top with firing grip accessibility for speed – since time is often in short supply in defensive situations.
Premium steerhide construction with double-stitched seams enhance durability, making the Combat Master one of the longest-lasting holsters money can buy.
Lastly, the Combat Master’s twin belt slots fit belts up to 1 ¾” wide, so it blends perfectly with current clothing styles. And blending in is the name of the game when we’re talking about concealed carry!

Lightweight and Hands-Free: NEBO Introduces the CurvBeam 600 Flex Headlamp for Active Outdoor Enthusiasts
![]()

Fort Worth, Texas (October 28, 2024) –Let us be honest—while on the move, nothing is more cumbersome and frustrating than having to carry a large, heavy flashlight in one hand while trying to manage supplies with the other. Whether running, jogging, walking, hiking, trail running, working outdoors, on a construction site, or engaging in any other outdoor activity, keeping track of a bulky flashlight to light the way can be tiresome.
Not only does carrying a large flashlight during these activities become a hassle, but it also means both hands are not free to handle any tasks that may arise. In these situations, a lightweight, convenient light source illuminates the path or worksite while eliminating the need to carry or place it precariously where light is required.
With this in mind, NEBO is proud to announce their new CurvBeam 600 Flex Headlamp, designed for active users seeking an optimal combination of comfort, performance, and versatility to see near, far, and wide. It features a curved 180-degree floodlight, allowing the wearer to experience nighttime visibility similar to daylight, with more balanced lighting that makes it easier for the eyes to adjust and focus. The flexible C•O•B LED band provides a diffused beam, enabling the wearer to use their peripheral vision and avoid the dark shadows and over-lit areas typically associated with traditional spot headlamps.
The CurvBeam 600 Flex Headlamp also includes a low-lumen spotlight for close tasks and a high-lumen spotlight for distance visibility. When used together, the floodlight and spotlight produce a maximum output of 600 lumens. The Flex-Power™ hybrid system operates on the included rechargeable battery or three AAA batteries for backup.
Its BackBalance Fit™ design features a rear-positioned battery to redistribute weight away from the forehead, offering a comfortable, bounce-free experience during activities like running or hiking. Constructed from impact-resistant polymer, rubber, and aluminum, it is IPX4 water-resistant, and the soft headband liner adds to the comfort.
See near, far, and wide with the NEBO CurvBeam 600 Flex Headlamp—designed for those on the move.

“It’s my favorite match of the year!”
CROSS TIMBERS, MO (AGirlandAGun.org) — Nearly 80 women traveled to Missouri from 18 different states to participate in the A Girl & A Gun (AG & AG) 2024 Fall Festival, which comprised shooting clinics, stage walkthroughs, social activities, and ultimately 2 matches, the Team Pistol Challenge and Multigun Challenge. The events took place at the Lucas Cattle Co. range with female competitors tackling 14 stages over 3 days.
Nearly half of the 65 Multigun Challenge participants were competing in their very first 3-gun match at Fall Fest. Nancy Grunnet, who won 1st Place in the PCC division, said, “One of the best things about this match is how it brings together both new and seasoned shooters. It’s inspiring to watch everyone push their limits and to be a part of a community that fosters growth at all levels.”
“We love welcoming new competitors to the shooting sports,” said Robyn Sandoval, President & CEO of AG & AG. “Fall Fest fosters the camaraderie of women coming together to enjoy shooting together and offers quality matches with fun stages, a talented staff, and a jaw-dropping prize table thanks to the generosity of our sponsors.” Ruger, Walther, GLOCK, Streamlight, Vortex, Crimson Trace, Magpul, Mantis, Savage Arms, and many other industry leaders contributed more than $150,000 worth of swag and prizes for the AG & AG competitors.
Pro Shooter Dianna Muller, who was the Modified Tac Ops Winner and High Law Enforcement, said, “I can’t say enough about the A Girl & A Gun Fall Fest, an all-ladies 3-gun match! The stages were superb, the staff is unmatched, and the prize table is ridiculously good! It’s not your normal 3-gun match. If you need some practice BEFORE the match, you can train at 3-Gun University. Then there’s a 1-day 2-person pistol-only match that is a hoot! Then two days of 3-gun. Next year I hear they are having a 2-gun division, so if you don’t want to mess with the shotgun, you can still play!!”
Rangemaster Adam Willcox designed and built the stages with fun and technical maneuvers in mind. The Team Pistol Challenge featured six stages that competitors tackled in two-women teams. The Multigun Challenge was a true multigun experience with 3-gun, 2-gun, and options stages in natural terrain throughout the Lucas property. His exceptional team of 18 Range Officers ensured the event was fun and safe.
“From the opening Pledge of Allegience to the closing banquet, Fall Fest is a truly unique experience,” says Theresa Schneider, who served on the match staff. “The community of women shooters encourage each other while pushing themselves to be their best, combined with an outstanding group of men who give their time and talent to make it happen by working tirelessly to ensure an unforgettable week.”
Andrea Reed from Austin, TX, said, “This event holds a special place in my heart. It embodies the spirit of women supporting women. It breaks the barriers and limitations we have set in our own mind, revealing our true capabilities and our passion to grow in our endeavors.”
Darla Chilton, who competed in her 2nd Fall Fest said, “The laughter, smiles, waves and welcoming attitudes make you love the women you met and learn so much about their lives, the places they come from and where they are going. You learn how to shoot the great sports of 3-gun and other shooting competitions, and to have the courage to compete with other women and men.”
Kim Skibbe of Indiana said, “I came to learn about 3gun; what I experienced was so much more. New friends and mentors welcomed me even though I really struggled with the skills. I left with a feeling of having had a great week of fun, accomplishment, and eager to come back for more next year.”
In the Team Pistol Challenge, each 2-woman team shot more than 300 rounds while wearing hilarious costumes. In the Multigun Challenge, competitors fired over 200 rounds of rifle, over 200 rounds of pistol, over 200 rounds of birdshot, and a dozen slugs. Carbine targets ranged from as close as 10 yards to as far as 580 yards. Both matches were preceded by 3 days of training to help competitors learn the sport of 3-gun under the guidance of Cindy Coker, with instructors Tennille Chidester, Jen Blake, Ursula Williams, and Derrick Dumont.
Range Officer Jody Tippett said, “For 5 years I’ve worked the A Girl & A Gun Fall Fest. It’s my favorite match of the year and I don’t even shoot it. Seeing these ladies cheer each other on, the excitement and determination they show just makes my heart swell. Robyn Sandoval and Adam Willcox put on an incredible match! The ladies seemed to love every stage. It’s always nice to see the ladies return each year, but love seeing new ladies coming out to compete for the first time. I could go on, but I’ll just say that I’m already looking forward to next year.”
“I truly feel grateful for taking the leap and attending Fall Fest and not letting a second go to waste,” said first-time attendee Silvia Arapicio of Illinois. “I’ve gained not only training experience and a couple matches under my belt, but I’ve gained a whole new 3-gun family and friendships that’ll last a lifetime. I’m already signed up for next year!”
Congratulations to the Winners of the Team Pistol Challenge:
Congratulations to the Winners of the Multigun Challenge:

Late October Magic
A flurry of factors is compiling now to make this your best whitetail hunting season…ever.
By Jay Anglin
MUSKEGON, Mich. (October 25, 2024) – The first cool nights in October are a bellwether for the chaos that will soon occur in the deer woods when lovestruck whitetail bucks roam the countryside seeking out the first does that come into estrous. Like clockwork, the familiar scent of decomposing leaves and musty smoke drifts across the land and the deer hunter’s soul is triggered by primal instincts that even the most pedestrian lifestyle cannot conceal. This is Late October Magic.
Generally, big cool downs occur sometime in early to mid-October, but warm stretches of weather are less than ideal for deer hunting as well. That said, savvy deer hunters know the deer are still active.

“Weather trumps everything, but at the end of the day, I’ve learned deer are going to do deer things regardless,” says TheGame TV host Matt Jennings of Woodland, Alabama. “The weather bothers us more than it bothers the deer. They’re still going to do their thing, you just have to be in the right spot at the right time.”
Sometime around Halloween the switch is flipped and the big bucks that have been roaming at night under bright moonglow begin to expose themselves during legal hunting hours. Avid deer hunters know this is the time to get very serious about spending time in the stand.
“The last week of October…the pre-lock stage, is when mock scrapes start really playing a big role,” explains Jennings. “Big boys start slipping up on the moon phase, and if you can ever catch that magical cold front and the right moon phase at the same time during the last few days of October, it can be absolute magic.”

Big bucks are typically run their scrapes at the edge of the fields at nighttime, and according to Jennings, if you can get the right weather they may slip up, but if you can ever figure out the “X”, which is where they are coming and going to run those scrapes, it can be “lights out”, as he puts it.
Barring the somewhat rare situation when perfect conditions align, Jennings relies on Moultrie cell cameras to keep tabs on deer state of mind. As he explains it, bucks use scrapes much like we use Facebook or Instagram, by letting everybody know who is in the area, and there are often new bucks, showing up left and right in late October.
“If you’re lucky enough you’ll have the first yearling doe come into heat, and then it’s no holds barred – especially if you’re in the right tree at the right time,” explains Jennings. “Last year we did that in Missouri on a brand-new piece of property. We’d never set foot on it until October 29th, and it was pouring rain and cold. I’ll never forget it – I slept for two hours and got up and tromped around the property, found the X, and hung a stand. The next day we went in at about 1 o’clock in the afternoon and tagged out at about 2:45 on a 159-inch ten pointer.”

“He was locked down on a doe and running the scrape line and it so happened, when I called another buck to me, the big boy came in and saw that visual, then got a little too close to me,” he adds.
Timing-wise, Jennings prefers the afternoon sits. “I would say evening is a more ideal time to hunt, because you’re still kinda playing with a food source, depending on your acorn crop or your green fields. Unless you can set the trap where you can catch them coming from food source in morn as they go back to bed, evening is usually the best, in my opinion.”
Jennings advises that calling also comes into play the last week of October. “They really start paying more attention to vocalizations – rattling and grunting and so forth. I start really start getting aggressive with the rattling and calling about the 27th, which is my favorite day.”

Jennings makes it clear his priorities are scrapes and following the moon cycle. “The bottom line is I look for scrapes in late October because this is when you can really pattern a deer. The moon phase also plays a huge role as well – on the red moon or a couple days prior to the red moon, that’s usually when I do my damage. I’m a real believer in the moon dial.”
The “red moon” is a period of four or five days when the moon is closest to Earth, overhead or underfoot, and the gravitational pull is at its strongest. Deer are more active for several hours during the red moon, and ideally this occurs during sunrise or sunset.
As far as moon phase goes, the new moon occurs on November 1st this year – the day after Halloween. It’s a setup that is just about as good as it gets for that precious two weeks that begins in late October and runs through the first ten days or so of November.

X-ANT
SHOP NOW
The design of this folding knife testifies Extrema Ratio’s effort in overcoming usual production standards in the cutting tools field, creating high-quality products.
X-Ant stands out for the use of an extraordinarily rare material in blade production, positioning the company among the very few institutions in Italy and the world that can claim such expertise.
For the blade realization, Extrema Ratio has used the collaboration of an Italian company leader in the sector with extremely high production standards. The material used, sintered tungsten carbide, features the remarkable property of high hardness equivalent to 71 HRC. This property makes it highly sought after in mechanical workshops, ours included, where it finds application in the treatment of metals such as steel.
The extraordinary hardness of this material is combined with a convenient compromise in terms of toughness, unlike ceramic, which is extremely fragile and therefore not suitable for such applications.
The sintered tungsten carbide blade (71 HRC) ensures a very high cutting capacity and absolute corrosion resistance. The combination of these two features, along with meticulous design, makes the X-Ant an exceptional EDC (Every Day Carry), suitable for everyday use and a unique piece for collectors.
The innovative features of the X-Ant foldable knife extend to functional design: the blade rotates on ball bearings that facilitate a smooth and precise opening. Similarly, the blue-colored titanium grip helps to improve the overall efficiency and strength of the instrument. X-Ant features the “LINER-LOCK” blade locking mechanism. Extrema Ratio is the first company in the world to ever use this locking system on a folding knife with a tungsten carbide blade.
X-Ant represents a perfect balance between performance and aesthetics, making it an outstanding ally in the operational field and a valuable addition to any knife collection.
Production is limited to 100 pieces, each packed in a sturdy technical polypropylene case, equipped with a pressurization valve and resistant to weather, dust, and shock. Inside there is a metal plate that shows the serial number of the limited series, making each piece a true collector’s item.
You can buy X-ANT at our authorized retailers and on extremaratio.com
