MURFREESBORO, TN – The U.S. Army has announced that the MARS Inc, Barrett team has been selected as the winner of the xTech Soldier Lethality competition. In six months, this team of agile businesses were able to design, build, test, and demonstrate the effectiveness of a new 30mm grenade rifle system in support of the Army’s Precision Grenadier System (PGS) requirement. PGS is a soldier portable, shoulder fired, semi-automatic, magazine fed, integrated armament system (weapon, ammunition, fire control) that enables rapid, precision engagements to destroy personnel targets in defilade and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) targets at close range. Both companies are proud to have the opportunity to provide this unique capability to the U.S. and allied war fighters.

The xTech program was an incredible demonstration of the strength and capabilities of the Barrett team to collaborate with likeminded companies to achieve what many thought unachievable in the given timeframe. As part of that journey, Barrett worked closely with small business innovator MARS Inc to bring their technology to life, AMTEC Corp to develop an entirely new family of 30mm shoulder fired munitions, and Precision Targeting to provide a fire control system customized for the AMTEC ammunition. This new ammunition family will have the full spectrum of capabilities required to achieve the US Army’s mission to provide overmatch on the modern battlefield. This includes, Programmable Air Bursting High Explosive (HE), Proximity Fuzed and Point Detonating HE, as well as a Close Quarter Battle Round.

NSSF, ATF, DOJ Emphasize ‘Don’t Lie for the Other Guy’

HOUSTON — NSSF^®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, together with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Department of Justice (DOJ), announced a month-long public education campaign reminding the Houston, Texas, area public about stiff penalties facing individuals convicted of unlawful firearm purchases. The “Don’t Lie for the Other Guy”^TM campaign is in its 25^th year and drives home the message that anyone making an illegal firearm purchase is committing a federal felony and faces a penalty of up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The program is funded in full by members of the firearm industry and is now also complemented by federal funding allocated to ATF by Congress. Houston was chosen for this specific campaign by ATF.

“The firearm industry has always been fully committed to keeping firearms out of the hands of those who should not possess them. In its twenty-fifth year, we are especially proud to launch this ‘Don’t Lie for the Other Guy public’ awareness campaign in Houston as part of our cooperative relationship with ATF, DOJ and the entire law enforcement community to assist them in their efforts to reduce criminal acquisition of firearms and to keep communities safe,” said NSSF President and CEO Joe Bartozzi.

The Houston-area “Don’t Lie” campaign will total more than 45.8 million media impressions. This includes an outdoor campaign running on 45 high impact billboards and posters throughout the Houston region with the message: “Buy a gun for someone who can’t and buy yourself 15 years in jail. Don’t Lie for the Other Guy.” The campaign will also include more than 400 radio spots on two of the top FM stations in the market, as well as 3.75 million targeted impressions across Facebook, Instagram and mobile display.

To legally purchase a firearm from a licensed retailer, a person must pass an FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check System verification, or NICS background check, and fully comply with all state and local laws. When a criminal is illegally trafficking in firearms or knows they cannot pass this check, they may try to induce a friend or acquaintance to make the purchase for them. This is a straw purchase and is a felony.

The “Don’t Lie for the Other Guy” program also involves educating firearm retailers to better detect and prevent straw purchases by providing free “Don’t Lie for the Other Guy” retailer kits containing a training video and information for storeowners and staff, as well as point-of-purchase displays aimed to deter illegal straw purchasers.

Rome, Italy – May 22, 2025 – BAE Systems Hägglunds and Iveco Defence Vehicles (IDV) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to pursue a strategic collaboration for the BvS10 all-terrain vehicle for the Italian market. The collaboration focuses on localization of design of Italian variants and manufacturing of the BvS10 – leveraging the strengths of both companies and Italian manpower.

“We are proud to collaborate with Iveco Defense Vehicles to strengthen the operational capabilities of the Italian Armed Forces. This partnership combines the technical expertise of both companies, ensuring the BvS10 is tailored to support Italy’s defence need,” said Tommy Gustafsson-Rask, general manager of BAE Systems Hägglunds. “It also reinforces our commitment to enhancing European defense capabilities and bolstering the industry’s growth.”

This industrial cooperation would build on previous successful collaboration between Iveco Defense Vehicles and BAE Systems, providing both vital capabilities and national security of supply.

“IDV is a longstanding partner for the Italian Army. We are committed to continuing our effort in offering the highest standards of survivability, performance, reliability and safety to satisfy the diverse needs of the Italian Army and the Armed Forces all over the world,” said Claudio Catalano, CEO of Iveco Defense Vehicles. “With the agreement signed today, we will leverage the expertise, technological know-how and experience of IDV and BAE Systems to deliver the BvS10 to the Italian Army.”

BAE Systems’ BvS10 is the world leader when it comes to all-terrain solutions. The armored, articulated vehicle is designed to provide total operational support where other vehicles cannot. Its mobility systems provide optimal maneuverability across varying terrains, including snow, ice, rock, sand, or mud, as well as steep mountain environments. The vehicle’s amphibious feature also allows it to swim in flooded areas or coastal waters, making it possible to deliver personnel and supplies to sustain strategic, tactical, and operational mobility.

The Bv10’s modular design allows it to be reconfigured for varying missions and can be delivered in multiple variants, including carrying personnel, command and control, ambulance, vehicle repair and recovery, logistics support, situational awareness, and a weapons carrier with additional mortar capability. It is the perfect combination of mobility, payload, and protection.

The vehicle is currently operated by Austria, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine. This collaboration will ease the adoption of this land platform by the Italian Army, ensuring logistical commonality within the countries that have already chosen the BvS10.

Picture this: armed forces are in the heat of battle. A unit is stationed on a rugged hillside, mortar tubes locked on multiple enemy targets. Every second counts. Once they shoot, they must quickly reposition to avoid incoming fire from all directions.

But the mortar system’s slow setup time and the presence of unmanned aerial vehicles mean their window to hide after firing is shrinking fast. The stress is already immense, and with war’s unpredictable nature, there’s always the looming chance something could go wrong with the vehicle itself. In that moment, what are their options?

Patria TREMOS was designed for exactly this. Its recoil absorber technology enables the vehicle to withstand the shock of firing without the need for separate support legs, eliminating wasted time in lowering or raising them. In practical terms, TREMOS can fire within 60 seconds of arriving at its position and exit within seconds after the last shot, enabling true “shoot and scoot” tactics.

Modularity on the battlefield

Battlefields are unpredictable, especially for mortar units operating on uneven terrain under constant threat. The risk of equipment damage is high, and losing both a vehicle and its mortar system can tip the balance of an engagement. What’s the alternative? That is why TREMOS features a proven standardised container base with twist-locks, allowing it to be dismounted and transferred to another platform in field conditions, if there is sufficient load-bearing capacity. This can be done in minutes with the help of a forklift or front-end loader. To enhance protection, additional ballistic plates supplied by Finnish manufacturers can be quickly installed.

Additionally, Patria TREMOS is compatible with all qualified 120mm and 81mm smoothbore mortar ammunition, making it a truly versatile and modular system that delivers critical battlefield flexibility. It can be equipped with existing barrels, enabling the use of available qualified ammunition and ballistic tables, making it easy to train and speeding up system deployment.
