STREAMLIGHT PROTAC RAIL MOUNT 1L-X PRO USB

Selecting a weapon-mounted light (WML) is usually a balancing act between enough power to identify a target and enough rail space to actually hold the rifle.

For years, the Streamlight ProTac series has been the go-to for shooters who want high-tier reliability without the “Gucci ” price tag. The new Streamlight ProTac Rail Mount 1L-X Pro USB debuted at SHOT Show 2026 ends the compromise between size and raw output.

Measuring just 4.64 inches and weighing a mere 5.6 ounces, it is specifically tailored for short-barreled rifles (SBRs), carbines, and submachine guns where every millimeter of rail estate is a premium. Pushing out 850 lumens and 30,000 candela, this light punches significantly above its weight class, offering the kind of throw usually reserved for much bulkier units.

The “Pro” designation isn’t just marketing fluff; it introduces the innovative Jack-Cap® tail cap. This system provides much-needed redundancy by allowing for both a tactile push-button and a remote pressure switch simultaneously. Combined with multi-fuel capability—running on either the included SL-B9® USB-C rechargeable pack or a CR123A lithium backup—and the versatile TEN-TAP® programming, Streamlight has created a lighting solution that adapts to the mission rather than forcing the user to adapt to the gear.

In this upcoming review, I’ll report on why I think this light deserves rail space on your SBR or PDW.
