“I didn’t think anything was wrong. I thought I was just doing what we all do — keep going.”
That’s how this Green Beret begins his story.
He didn’t see the signs.
He didn’t feel the warning lights.
He didn’t understand how far he’d slipped.
Years of personal loss, back‑to‑back deployments, and the unspoken expectation to stay strong no matter what slowly built up around him — layer after layer — until he was carrying more than any one person should ever have to shoulder.
But like so many in the Regiment, he believed the mission came first.
He believed strength meant silence.
He believed he could handle it.
“Looking back, I can see how bad off I was… but at the time, I couldn’t see it at all.”
When those closest to him finally urged him to get help, he wasn’t even sure where to begin. The idea of seeking treatment felt overwhelming — emotionally, logistically, professionally.
That’s when Special Forces Trust stepped in.
SFT worked directly with Warrior’s Heart to secure him a place in treatment, helped coordinate everything with his command, and removed the financial barriers that often keep warriors from getting the time they truly need.
He says the experience didn’t just stabilize him — it opened his eyes to how much he had ignored, buried, minimized, and carried alone for years.
His final reflection is honest and powerful: “I didn’t know how broken I was until the Trust helped me start healing. You saved my life.”
Your generosity makes that healing possible — for him, and for the many who don’t realize how close they are to the edge until someone reaches in and pulls them back.
Did you know, the average cost for a service member to participate in this type of sponsored treatment is on average $22,000?
Your generosity makes testimonials like this possible — providing access to treatment, removing barriers, and ensuring our warriors get the time and care they truly need. During this Season of Giving, we ask you to support the programs that give these warriors the time, space, and care they didn’t know they needed. Donate today!
