While at Shot Show this year, I had a great visit with an up and coming firearms manufacturer, Watchtower Firearms and its CEO Jason Colosky. Watchtower is a Texas based corporation with an impressive array of executive talent as well as a top of the line product portfolio.
I’ve been a 1911 fan for quite a few years and this year I had the opportunity to take a look at one of the more impressive 1911 offerings on the market. The Watchtower APACHE.
The APACHE is a 9mm double-stacked 1911 precision-machined from 4140 and 416R steel pistol. I absolutely loved the wide grip and texture. The trigger pull was crisp; breaking like a glass rod, at about 4lbs. All of the traditional 1911 accoutrements were brilliantly executed with an ambidextrous safety selector. WATCHTOWER uses a proprietary PVD (physical vapor deposition) coating on the slide, barrel, frame, and all major components. Its PVD finish is a corrosion-resistant permanent surface finish that protects your pistol from exposure to foreign elements, including saltwater. The original 2023 offering was a limited production of 1000 pistols but the APACHE is now a full production offering with a M.S.R. P. of $3,990.
