The Honorable Heidi Shyu serves as the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering. By commanding the research, development, and prototyping activities across the Department of Defense (DoD), she ensures the U.S. military maintains superior technological capabilities. Prior to this position, Ms. Shyu served as the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology, where she oversaw logistics and executed the Army’s acquisition function and acquisition management system.

Ms. Shyu’s address will focus on the path forward for the DoD’s research and engineering strategy related to energetics, which includes investing in emerging technologies and capabilities, developing advanced materials that reduce the military’s logistics footprint, and cultivating a diverse pipeline of STEM talent.

COVID-19 Information

The planning team is monitoring the COVID-19 status as the health of our event participants, members, and partners remains our top priority. We are committed to following the guidelines and precautions as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the venue. Attendees can expect to see the following at the conference:

PROOF OF VACCINATION: All attendees will be required to provide proof of vaccination or proof of negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to arriving onsite for badge pick-up. Details for securely providing documentation will be provided shortly on the event website.
MASKS: At this time, Purdue is requiring all adults, regardless of vaccination status, to wear masks indoors. Therefore, all participants at the Breakthrough Energetics event will be required to wear face masks, except when actively eating or drinking. Please plan and bring your own face mask. A very limited supply of disposable masks will be available onsite.
WAIVER: All registrants are required to sign NDIA’s COVID-19 waiver during the online registration process. Attendees may disclose their vaccination status at the time of signing.
FOOD AND BEVERAGE: Food and beverage areas will be designed to minimize touchpoints utilizing individually packaged or attended stations.
