Shadow Tech LLC was founded by a former U.S.M.C. Scout Sniper and OIF veteran. The company produces a professional grade rifle rest designed for field use. The HOG Saddle attaches to a standard camera tripod and its is designed to clamp the rifle in place yet provide the necessary articulation to adjust angle and aiming point; including panning.
The company recommends the following tripods for use with its HOG Saddle:
- Manfrotto 055XPROB Aluminum
- Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 Carbon Fiber
- Manfrotto 190XPROB Aluminum
- Manfrotto 190CXPRO3 Carbon Fiber
To pan or make angle adjustments you’ll need to include ball action heads, which are readily available from photo equipment suppliers. Some suggestions here include:
- Manfrotto 054 Magnesium Ball
- Manfrotto 498 Midi Ball
- Manfrotto 496 Compact Ball
The new version of the HOG Saddle, marketed as the MOD 7, has a number of improvements over the older product.
-
Opens 1/4″ wider than original model.
(2 11/16″ Open, 1 1/2″ Closed) -
Incorporates a retention button screw to prevent unintentional disassembly in the field.
-
Weighs less than 16 ounces.
-
Added cut-outs to the base of the HOG Saddle. These narrow slots better integrate with tripod heads or QR plates that have anti-rotation video pins.
