SRW or Soldier Radio Waveform is a byproduct of the Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) initiative. SRW runs under software control on a software definable radio or SDR. SRW is a wide-band communications architecture providing concurrent voice and data communications along with the ability to establish ad hoc networks in the field. The feature translates to a flexible, self-healing, voice and data communications network to enhance C2ISR.
The National Security Agency (NSA) has awarded Harris Corporation a Type-1 certification for integration of the SRW waveform in the Falcon III AN/PRC-117G platform representing the first deployment of Type -1 radios using the SRW waveform. Falcon III AN/PRC-117G offers coverage in the 30MHz to 2GHz frequency so data rates should be quite high.
Type-1 certification is a process by which the NSA validates electronic equipment hardware and supporting software for cryptographically securing classified U.S. information.
