It’s certainly disheartening to see an organization as distinguished as the U.S. Secret Service get a black-eye from childish behavior by a group of individuals who clearly exercised poor judgement. The event appears to have taken the place of the George Zimmerman incident with the media, and as with George Zimmerman, before the results of an investigation are in.
I’d like to suggest one possible approach to addressing the problem.
- Let the investigation run its course before passing judgement on the individuals involved. Rest assured that it is highly unlikely the President’s physical security was compromised.
- Terminating 11 or more agents will destroy 11 families, who are innocent victims in and of themselves.
- Dock agent paychecks for airfare, meals and entertainment expenses incurred in connection with the trip.
- Remove their security clearances, which has already been done, and relieve them of all protection work.
- Assign them, as US Secret Service employees, to work child pornography cases with the FBI, until such time the Secret Service regains confidence in their judgement and priorities.
Let’s get this incident behind us because from where I sit the only people making a big deal out of this is our media.
